All my settings are Apple Pro Rez 422 but when i log and transfer, i'm getting dvcprohd. what's going on?

If your camera shoots DVCPRO HD to P2 cards...like the HVX200, HPX170, HPX500, HPX2000...then it will come in as DVCPRO HD.  Only AVCIntra P2 comes in as ProRes.  DVCPRO HD P2 comes in native.

  • CS6 Export Settings for Apple Pro Res 422 HQ

My project is 1920 x 1080 (1.0) 23.976 fps, progressive and my special effects guy is asking for the project to be rendered out to Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. I can not find an export setting that offers 23.976 fps and is progressive. I have offered to give him an "XML" file but he is insistant. What can I do?

I believe you will only find this option on a Mac that has ProRes installed from some other application, like QuickTime Pro or Final Cut.

  • All my loops are present in the browser, but when I drag a sound over it doesn't match.  With beats, I get no percussion sounds, just a basic 8-bit type sound.

I had a critical failure on my Mac and have slowly been rebuilding it, but Garageband just doesn't want to cooperate.  This is actually a two-fold problem.   First problem is; all of my loops are in my browser and when I click on one for a preview sound, it works fine.  But, when I drag it into the project window I lose any the correct sound.  They still have sound, but it will be a basic "blip, bloop" type 8-bit sound.  This is namely with any kind of beats or percussion.  Say I try to use a Trip Hop loop, all I get is the blips and bloops but no hi-hats, no snare, no kind of percussion sound at all.
Second problem:  As I said before, all of my loops are correct in my loop browser, but they didn't seem to transfer over the MIDI sounds that I can usually choose from in the Track Info pane.  It still only has the most basic sounds to choose from.  Before, I had all the different MIDI sounds to choose from, such as Star Sweeper and the like, but those are all gone.  I've tried to drag-and-drop into that pane but it won't let me.
I really hope that someone has an answer for this, I have a lot of projects I've been working on for a long time that are basically trash right now because I can't do anything with them.

    Missing Instruments:
The pop-up menu at the top of the track info pane filters the instruments: Make sure it is set to "show all".
I am not sure at all about your drums, however. You do not drag your drum-loops to tracks with different instruments, do you?
What you describe, looks exactly like something where transposing the drum loops and shifting the notes. This would cause the beats to be mapped to different instruments. And this is not suposed to happen, when you set the key of your project or transpose the master track.
Does this happen only in your account, or also when you launch GarageBand form a diffrent user account? You might create a new account forr testing, to explore this.

  • How to transcode H.264 to apple pro rez 422

What's the best way to transcode H.264 video footage from a Canon DSLR to Apple ProRez 422 and inport into FCP 7?

  • My screen is messed up.  All the colors are wrong.  Blue is yellow, red is teal, and so on.  No clue what happened or how to fix it.  All my apps are this way and the wallpaper picture is totally messed up.

My grandson was playing around with my mouse and changed the display on everything.  Things that are usually blue are now gold, red is now teal, etc.  I can't figure out what he did or how to correct it.  I went to system preferneces but nothing is seeming to work.  Any clue what to do?

    Basically... try the following...
Press the Control-Option-Command-8 key combination. This is actually a feature of Universal Access that you can toggle.

  • I have footage shot on a p2 camera, why won't all of the clips transfer when using Log and Transfer?

Only about 60% of the clips transferred over or was shown in the Log and Transfer window.

Offload the cards...back them up.  That is priority #1.  Do that first...then return the camera.  Then try mucking about with this.
Back up the ENTIRE card structure.

  • Apple pro res 422 file consuming more space than usual

    hi everyone!
I've been  working with FCP 7 since 2008 and at the same time I started working with Canon T2 from 2 years ago and I haven't had any problems with my FCP workflow files, editing and output used to be H. 264 based files until I started to  have problems with my hd DSRL projects. Recently when editing the audio went out of sync and  I was suggested to change the Quicktime video settings from FCP 7 to imovie (which is th application I commonly use to create chapters and share to iDVD) this worked perfectly. It was the  first time I which I had  to  change the Quictime Settings to Apple Pro Res 422 The Out of sync problem was resolved but the space consumed by the file was enourmosly ncreased instead. ie. A 5 min project usually would take like a 500 mbs quicktime  file  and now using the Apple Pro Res 422 this 5 min project went up to 5.3 Ggs!! And also the exporting process is taking forever!! For instance I'm working  with a 30 min project and the Quicktime conversion never ends. It's taking about 12 hrs and is not taking  more than the 20% of the process. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I need help in a extremely urgent way!  Thank you all guys! And best regards from Mexico!!
    Mac Pro early 2008
Processor  2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  10 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

    >using the Apple Pro Res 422 this 5 min project went up to 5.3 Ggs
That's about right for a ProRes 422 file. High quality video takes a lot of space. It's sufficient to use the lighter ProRes LT for the footage from your T2 by the way. Your MacPro can also have up to 4 hard drives for plenty of storage.
Why are you using QuickTime Conversion?
Exporting to QuickTime with current settings and self contained is the better way. Then you use Compressor to make your delivery format from that master. Compressor is faster because it can take advantage of multiple cores - FCP doesn't. It will also give you far more control and choice over the encoding.

  • Apple Pro Res 422 / FCP7 render issues

    Hello,
I do a lot of timelapses and have pretty good workflow for all this. However, I am experiencing one issue that makes everything a bit difficult. I appreciate if anybody could help me.
    My workflow is:
    1. Shoot some stills RAW
    2. Develop in Adobe Camera RAW
    3. Import stills sequence and render in AfterEffects CS4 to AppleProRes 422
    4. Import to FCP7 and edit
    5. Grading / color correction
    6. Publishing
All works fine, however I am having very often an unpredictable issues with the Apple Pro Res 422 codec under FCP7.
I always render a bunch of sequences from AE using the same settings for all files. The only difference is resolution.
My render settings for exporting from AE are:
    - Apple Pro Res 422 wrapped in MOV
    - render in 10-bit YUV from RAW 16 bit sequence files
    - AE project in 16 bit
    - Resolutions of rendered all files around 3500x2500 px, this vary from file to file.
The sequences render fine in AE.
The sequences play properly in QT, I can import them to FCP properly, play in FCP properly. I can drag to timeline, scale, rotate, scrub etc.
However: Some sequences fail to render in FCP7.
When I drag them to my working sequence in timeline (Usually a Full HD 1080p, Pro Res 422, YUV), scale down (usually) and try to render timeline footage (don't mean exporting here yet) I get the following error:
"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."
This happens on many computers including iMac, MacbookPro and a Mac Pro.
I discovered that setting the footage size to even width and height figures when exporting from AE eliminates the problem sometimes, but it does not help in all cases.
Also it sometimes help if i take such sequence, crop and export using QT under the same settings, just a few pixels less in size. But again - it helps sometimes.
Can anybody help me with these?
    Anybody experiencing similar issues?
    Thanks a lot.

I had the same problem when we started to edit on Pro Res timelines. The solution I found was to go the Sequence Settings > Video Processing > and change the Render setting to "Render in 8-bit YUV" that allowed me to actually render the timeline and view my work. Hope that helps.

  • A conclusion to ALL the AVCHD/.mts Log and Transfer Final Cut Pro 7 issues

    Hey all! Happy 2011!
So this is my first post here and hopefully when this thread concludes with all your help we should be able to help a lot of people and save them the heartache that I have recently had to endure by stating these things in plain English. I have some questions at the end which I think could be answered very easily! Please, no gobbledygook!
It would be great if people in the know can confirm/deny or comment on my points so those that are in a similar position to me can save their time and just get on with it.
    1) I have a Panasonic HDC-TM300 and it records in AVCHD/.mts files
    2) FCP 7 can deal with AVCHD files via the Log and Transfer feature if you do it straight from the camera or memory card and can convert to ProRes 422 (LT)?
    3) Log and Transfer _*DOES NOT WORK*_ if you move the AVCHD/.mts to an external drive without maintaining the folder structure?
    4) What is required from the folder structure that makes FCP act this way?
    5) Basically I have f*ed it by doing the part 3 above which I think is the most natural thing in the world to do! Im sure that many people have done the same thing as me please correct me if i’m wrong
After a lot of research on the internet I have come up with the following solutions and in brackets my thoughts on them. If anyone has any experience with them please please let me and other people know so I can get on with my life and editing these files.
    a) Harass the people that make FCP 7.0 and make sure that the next update solves this stupid/idiotic/ridiculous oversight. (This could take a while but i think we should do it for the sake of future generations)
    b) Someone could let us know about a workaround to this that may be the folder structure that FCP needs to be able to do L&T (needs to be simple so that everyone can do it. This would be the best short term solution until part a is completed)
    c) Buy one of the converter programs such as ClipWrap, Toast Titanium or Aunsoft mts converter. If so which is the most/ least recommended and why? (Least desirable option due to requirement for extra program so extra faffing and extra cost).
Thanks y’all and keep up the awesome work!!
    K*

    2) FCP 7 can deal with AVCHD files via the Log and Transfer feature if you do it straight from the camera or memory card and can convert to ProRes 422 (LT)?
    Yes.
    3) Log and Transfer DOES NOT WORK if you move the AVCHD/.mts to an external drive without maintaining the folder structure?
This is true of ANY tapeless format.
    4) What is required from the folder structure that makes FCP act this way?
This is due to the fact that most of them have files in those other folders in that structure that FCP needs to access in order to get all the proper components assembled properly. Sure, there are formats that have folders with nothing in them. Doesn't matter, FCP is designed to look at the full structure and work from that.
    5) Basically I have f*ed it by doing the part 3 above which I think is the most natural thing in the world to do!
The most natural thing in the world is to NOT backup everything? Well, that might be the case, since this comes up so darn often. But, it is wrong. The full structure must be maintained. This is true of many tapeless formats and more than just FCP. Avid and Premiere need this for certain tapeless formats too.
    a) Harass the people that make FCP 7.0 and make sure that the next update solves this stupid/idiotic/ridiculous oversight.
It isn't an oversight. It is designed like this on purpose. You need to learn how to do things right. You obviously know what that is now...keep the full card structure. So now it is up to you to continue to do things properly. Instead of insisting that an NLE conform the way it works to suit your needs.
    b) Someone could let us know about a workaround to this that may be the folder structure that FCP needs to be able to do L&T (needs to be simple so that everyone can do it. This would be the best short term solution until part a is completed)
Easy. Shoot a small bit on another card. Look at the folder structure. Recreate that structure in your backed up footage. Often this will mean making folders with exact names, even if they are empty. But if they have files in them, even small ones, then the first backup you did might not work....because those might be some of the small files FCP needs in order to do the L&T process properly. Always worth trying though.
    c) Buy one of the converter programs such as ClipWrap, Toast Titanium or Aunsoft mts converter. If so which is the most/ least recommended and why?
I highly recommend Clipwrap. Mainly because I haven't tried the others. But also because the author is always following the latest formats, and works hard to make sure his software works with them. It solved an importing issue I had with the Sony NXCam camera...within a week of me moaning about the issue.
Want a tutorial to walk you through the tapeless workflow in FCP? I have one. Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial You might know most of this, but watch it for other tips.

  • Log and Transfer not working at all

I'm really frustrated by the Log and Transfer procedure. Does it actually really work?
I have some HiDef video on an SD card, (no mixed media, just the video files) and the Log and Transfer option WILL NOT bring any of the files in. They are all AVI files, 720p, readable/playable by QuickTime, even readable and usable by FCE if I drag and drop each file, although to watch it without stuttering, I need to render it. The video is from a D-SLR (Pentax K-x to be exact)
But I want it in a native format so after it brings it in, I don't need to re-render it every time I move or trim it .0001 seconds in one direction.
When I try and do the Log and Transfer procedure, I get the error message that :
"xxxx contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
No support for 720p AVI files? Seriously? That just can't be right.
I have tried selecting the top level mounted object as well as selecting various directories drilling down into the card's data. Same error message every time.
I have also tried selecting various "Easy Setup" configurations. None made any difference what so ever.
The manual seems to suggest that you just select the media object and the magic happens. What the heck is going on? Any ideas?

    Hi -
FCE currently supports 3 types of media directly:
The latter two types, HDV and AVCHD it supports by converting the video format to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) during the ingestion process.
The video that your camera makes is none of those formats, so you will need to convert the video to a format that is usable in FCE natively. This is why you are unable to use Log and Transfer. In order to use Log and Transfer, you would need to have video that conforms to the AVCHD standard.
You can manually convert your video files by downloading MPEG Streamclip (free) from
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
and converting your video to AIC 720P.
Then use easy set up in FCE for HDV 720P and manually import your files by going to the menu File > Import, or simply dragging the files from the finder to your FCE browser.
You don't mention what frame rate you camera shoots at, but FCE only works with standard broadcast frame rates (29.97 fps), so it won't be able to use 24fps material.
You would need to use Final Cut Pro to natively support that.
    Hope this helps.

  • Export to quicktime audio out of sync Apple Pro Res 422

    hello forum!
In a tizz as have an film due tomorrow but when I export to quicktime from final cut 7, the audio is out of sync...
I've scoured the forums and lots of other people seem to have this problem when using H264, however I converted to Apple Pro Res 422 (LT) before pulling files into final cut, plus all of the sequence and final cut settings (as far as I can tell) are already set to Apple Pro Res 422 (LT). I don't understand what I am doing wrong!
nb. the files seem to play okay in VLC

Thanks for your reply David! Indeed my audio is 16 bit 48 kHz and there is no MP3 audio (have a wav music file included).
I just spoke to a techy  friend who said the fact it is playing smoothly in VLC indicates the problem is with quicktime and not with the film itself, so I am currently compressing to something smaller and will see how I fare from there!

  • Apple Pro Res 422 versus Apple Intermediate Codec

I'm new to the world of FCE HD. I'm transfering video from a Canon HG10 to my MacBookPro and storing on an external drive. Earlier projects are bringing in video with Apple Intermediate Codec compressor... no problems, editing doesn't require rendering... Now video is being brought in as Apple Pro Res 422. The Pro Res is requiring that I render everything once I bring it from the viewer to the canvas. I've searched all menus, preferences and settings looking for where and how to change this setting. Does anyone have a solution to this snag?
The data rate for Pro Res 422 is 15.3mb/s and for Apple intermediate codec is 9.9
None of this makes sense to me... please assist.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
How did you convert to ProRes 422?
ProRes 422 codec is a part of final cut studio 2.
FCE HD cannot edit nor render in ProRes like Final Cut Pro. You material havs to be NTSC, PAL or AVCHD and HDV (converted to Apple Intermediate Codec).

  • DVCPRO HD/Apple Pro Res 422 HQ slow to transcode to DVD on 8 core Mac Pro's

I've been conducting some tests and narrowed down the slow transcode times I'm having specifically to DVCPRO HD or Apple Pro Res 422 HQ clips when transcoding to 90-150 MPEG-2 DVD Presets. These formats take forever to render on a Mac Pro 8 core when compared to a G5 or a quad 2.66GHz Mac Pro. DV and DVCPRO 50 are transcoding at very fast speeds on a Mac Pro 8 core. I would like other Mac Pro 8 core users out there to confirm this... that way Compressor developers can do soemthing about these slow MPEG-2 transcode times. A 6 minute DVCPRO HD clip is taking 52 minutes to transcode to a MPEG-2 90 minute DVD Best Preset in Compressor. This is in comparison to 20 minutes on a G5 and 10 minutes on a Mac Pro 2.66GHz for the same transcode. This problem does not happen while transcoding to MPEG-1 or HD DVD MPEGs.
    I've tried everything:
    1. Wiped the system
    2. Switched memory
    3. Tried virtual clusters.. still slow even at 750% cpu utilization.
    4. Tried with updates and without updates.
    5. Tried with multiple other clips.
    6. Looked at my file permissions for each clip
    7. Made sure that each file is self contained.
    8. Tried custom presets.
    9. Googled to see if other people are having the same problem... found this: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/155/866630
    10. Compared times to DVD Studio Pro's encoder... DVD Studio Pro is way faster.
    11. I've written to Ken Stone and Mike from HDforindies.com... just to confirm the problem... waiting for their response.
    12. I've also written a suggestion/problem report to Compressor developers.

I've had the same chooppy/ipxelated results that you are having with DVD Studio Pro's encoder at different settings. If DVD Studio Pro had worked well... I would have dropped this issue somewhat. I'm so irritated that a Mac Pro 8 core... top of the line machine is getting floored by G5's and Quad Mac Pro's. Even though it's just with the DVD 90-150 minute presets... its still a major issue because i need to make DVD's on a regular basis. I woud feel so much better if I knew someone was looking at the problem. Including you I've found 3 others with the same issue. I'm hoping to get them on this thread.

  • Having some problems with Apple Pro Res 422 HQ and Hard Drives

    Hey,
I've been having trouble when digitizing video via Apple Pro Res 422. First off I'm using a macbook pro 2Ghz intel core duo/2GB of Ram and my hard drive is pretty much almost full. I've set my scratch disks to a Lacie 1TB drive via USB 2.0. Second of all during the Apple Pro Res 422 capture process in the middle of capture it says that my Internal Drive is almost full and won't let me continue on with capture. I don't get it because everything in the scratch disks are set to my Lacie Drive.

My Lacie has 1 firewire 400 and 2 firewire 800 ports but my computer is an early macbook pro that only has 1 firewire 400 port and 2 USB ports. So yea it kinda of stinks but could you recommend a eSata Express card?
