All my songs are hidden on the desktop...

i tried to delete my library after i had backed it up to an external hd...but i see when i open the desktop there are 5000 songs listed there...i want to get these back onto my ipod or at least into my library again...
what the heck happened?

So, do you want to delete them or keep them?
Why were you trying to delete them?
The easiest way to delete them all -- if you really want to,
is to exit iTunes, locate the folder in Finder (in the Music
folder) and delete it (then empty the trash to finish the job).
If you select one of the files in Finder and Get Info, what does
it say about the file? Permissions etc?
Have you tried to re-import the files via iTunes?

go to settings>general>reset>reset home screen layout and see if they appear.

So i was putting some new songs on my iPod 20 GB, the one before the colour screen came. the operation hung itself up, for the first time. everything worked well with the ipod when i hooked it off. then i put it on again, and nothing worked. and now there are NO songs on the ipod, BUT i do not believe they are deleted, because both the ipod AND itunes says only 90 MB free space. but when i go on it on my harddrive, and try to check the music files on the ipod, all the folders are in strange chinese-like language, and i can't open anything!
PLZ, any advice? i CAN'T LOOSE MY MUSIC!! PLZ HELP!!!

After setting up an mp3 player using my itunes library, all my songs are now in the library twice, I dont know what to do, other than delete them one at a time, and what did I do that would of caused this to happen.

I have an ipod with 1000 songs and I transfered them to a mp3 player, when checked my library for duplicates, all the songs appreared twice, now I am afraid to add more songs and sync my ipod.

Manually sync. This way, you will be making sure no duplicates will sync over to your iPod.

All itunes songs are unchecked

how do i fix this problem without going through every song individually to recheck them? My friend accidentally pushed a button and all 7000 songs are unchecked.

- open the library
- select any song with the cursor
- press ctrl+A (or, if you don't want to select all, select first song, hold shift and select the last one)
- right click
- check selection
...and that's all

The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities. So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

However, some won't play and ask me for the password for the apple id they were purchased under. 2 of these ids are obsolete and I have no access to those accts. The songs all played on my old computer without prompting me for a password.
Any ideas how I can get around this hassle and get them all to play? We're talking about 800 songs that are being obstinate. The new computer is authorized under my "new" Apple id, which I have used for years.

The iphone is not storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone.
The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Were the syncing and non-syncing songs purchased with the same account?

I have indicated on the attached jpeg where the problem is, basically a line of text is missing at the top and part of the feeding diagram is missing. I created the artwork in different layer and then flattened. All text has been converted to outlines, however the areas being affected have no transparency, I have used solid fills or no fills. I get the same result when I export the file as a jpeg. Hope you can help.

Is your GarageBand version up to date? If not, upgrade to the latest version. also, you coud try to reset GarageBand to the factory settings. That brought my iCloud projects back.
Open the "Settings" app on your iPad and scroll down to the applications. Open the GarageBand settings and set "Reset GarageBand" to on.
BTW: If there are network problems it sometimes may take a very long time, before the song is downloaded from the cloud again. That is why I never upload the original to iCloud - I duplicate the song and share only a copy to iCloud. Once I am sure the upload has been successful and the cloud version is working I delete the original.

Not all my songs are showing in itunes even though they are in the itunes Media Dir. I have spent hours trying to find out why so I moved the songs out of the Music/itunes/itunes media and uninstalled itunes. I then restarted my pc and re-installed itunes. When I opened itunes the same songs are still there (but cannot be played as cannot find location) even though I have not put anything back in the itunes media dir. To me there seems to be a refreshing problem as itunes is not looking at the directory even through the advanced preferences area is mapped to the correct area.

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
