All my songs gone...

i plug in my iphone3gs to my office computer today morning and all songs were gone without reason, so i decide to get back my songs from my usually use computer. when i plug the ip3gs in, itunes shows that there are nearly 4GB songs in my iphone but then when i click into my phone, it shows nth. what should i do?
i check in General>Usage, it shows that i only use 9.0GB, which means my songs are not in my iphone...
i wana try adding in some new songs but it just cant.
what is the problem and what should i do?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. You may be able to get the songs from the iPod to your computer if one of them will read the iPod. If you can retrieve the songs then you could restore the iPod and start over. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

Please advise.

Yes, you can get the songs off your iPod. This question gets asked a lot.

  • All Nano songs gone EXCEPT NIKE+purchases

I have purchased 6 nikeplus itunes training playlists. Today I noticed that is ALL i have on my nano which had a few hundred itune songs on it... Any suggestions as to how to fix this & not lose run info would be most appreciated.. Nano is only 3/mo/old

Ok I understand that I need to load my own songs from my itunes account. Is there a way for me to even retreive the song titles not the actual music just the names of the music from the ipod so i could go purchase these songs myself to put back on the ipod. This ipod had about 1300 songs on it some i had forgotten about and i would just really like to be able to find the titles so i could look them up and purchase the music to add to my own library.

  • I recived an itunes gift card,so i down loaded the program and i saw i was able to transfer my music to itunes,450 songs..then 2 day later i had a system crash, after reformating and reloading itunes, and logging in,i find all 450 songs, gone...***...

SAYS I HAVE TO POST SOMTHING....ITUNES IS A REALLY ****** UP PICE OF ****.....NO SURPORT OF ANY KIND,,,,,,

    after reformatting and reloading tunes
When you reformat a drive, if you haven't created a backup as Apple suggests here:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive then you will have to re purchase your iTunes media unless you are a resident of the U.S, have iTunes 10.3 or later installed, you can re download iTunes purchases for free.

  • I have paid for itunes match and have now lost all my music of my iphone except what I paid for from itunes, 964 songs gone not at all happy.  Can anyone help

I have paid for itunes match and have now lost all my music off my iphone except what I paid for from itunes, 964 songs gone into the cloud. Can anyone help please?

Enabling iTunes Match does not delete music from your computer. Why do you think it is now not in the iTunes library if it was before? If all of your music was in the iTunes library then it is also now in the cloud if iTunes has completed it's scan and all the music meets the match requirements. Enable the iCloud Status column in the iTunes browser by switching to Song view and pulling down View > View Options. Select iCloud Status then close the small window. Sort on the new column. Your music should be listed as "purchased," "matched" and "uploaded." Some tracks may be "ineligible." Post back and let us know.

I understand that your iPod nano is not recognized in iTunes. The following troubleshooting assistant may provide a resolution:

  • All the songs on my ipod shuffle were deleted because of auto sync. Can the songs be recovered anywhere or are they gone?

I plugged my ipod shuffle first generation into my work computer (PC) and itunes deleted all the songs because of auto sync. I had checked the box to not sync with the itunes library because there were no songs in the library. But I guess auto sync was still turned on, and it "synced" all the songs off of my ipod. Are these songs recoverable anywhere or are they just gone?
    Thanks,
    Frustrated User

The 1st gen (and 2nd gen) iPod shuffle does not have a mode where it automatically syncs to your iTunes library.  It uses manual loading all the time (or the Autofill feature).  So iTunes did not delete its content because of automatic syncing.
However, it can only be used with one iTunes library at a time.  So, if you connect it to a different computer (with a different iTunes library), its existing content is erased.  You should get a warning so that you can back out.
If you started using the shuffle with a different iTunes library, the songs that were on it are gone.
NOTE:  The 3rd and 4th gen shuffles are different, and work more like the other "big" iPods.  If it is set for Manually manage music, you can connect it to a different iTunes library without erasing the existing content.

  • All my songs and videos gone after app transfer to my laptop (iOS 5.0)

All my songs (about 1800 songs/12GB) and videos (10gb) have disappeared while two of my apps, Asphalt 6 and Real Racing 2 were being transferred from my iPod to my laptop. I guess they were being transferred since they have been updated and I haven't synced my ipod into my laptop for a while. But today while it was trasferring, it said that I'm running out of storage continuously and later on I saw that the transfer was done, but my songs and videos were gone! And my last backup was like when the iOS first came out, so it would mean nothing to restore from backup right now.
I can see all of the songs and videos that were on the iPod still on iTunes, but when i click on them, it shows the exclamation mark which means that they have been disappeared or something... Any help please?

The storage space taken up by "Other" can be made up of, notes or files of any kind you've added to the iPod whilst using it as a hard disk or album artwork. Or sometimes when the iPod data base has become corrupt.
There will always be a few MBs of used space under "other" but if it's in GBs it's unusually large. This often happens when the iPod data base becomes corrupt.
If the iPod is enabled for disk use, you can look at the folders on the iPod through Explorer or Finder (on a Mac) and delete anything you don't want.
If it's a corruption of the iPod database (as seems likely here) it will probably need to be restored, see how to restore the iPod to factory settings which will erase the iPods contents and reclaim the used space.
Then reload the music from iTunes.

  • ITunes Library "damaged"? All my songs are gone now! =(

So i start itunes the other day, and it gives me a message that my itunes library has been "damaged" and now all my songs/playlists/purchased music is gone. The files are still there in their folders, but gone from itunes.
I did some research online on how to fix this, yet i still have some questions......
first, why does/did this happen in the first place!??!!?!?
second, how can i fix the original file so i can restore my playlists and songs? i know i can rename a file from the previous librarys, but it ***** for me because i just recently added to my playlists and purchased new music and do not want to go back to where i was at about a month ago.
my main question, HOW CAN I FIX MY "DAMAGED LIBRARY" FILE TO RESTORE MY LIBRARY TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE RIGHT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED? I have tried to simply rename the file by removing the "(damaged)" tag on the file name, but when i start itunes it gives me the same message and my songs/playlists are still not there.
    Thankyou.

Sorry, but i had the same problem & I had to manually re-import all of my songs & videos & re-tag them all & re-organize in playlists and everything! Now if there is another way around it, I have no idea. It happened to me because iTunes froze on my Mac & I had to force quit. When I re-opened iTunes I was in the same boat you are..... I know that isn't any help, but I feel your pain!

  • IPod mini reset itself, all songs gone

Help! I turned on my mini last night to find the language screen asking what language I wanted...then I found that all my songs and playlists were gone. I'm away from my home computer all summer so is there any way I can get those songs back? I miss them already!

Laura, I wish I had an answer, but I'm posting hoping that someone else will answer too. I encountered the same problem last night. I turned on my mimi last night at the gym and all the songs, playlists, everything, were GONE! I tried to copy the playlist to my mini when I got home, and the Powerbook and iTunes recognized the iPod, and let me copy the playlist over, and I could see the playlist in iTunes through the computer but when I ejected the mini from the computer, nothing was on the mini. I'm at a loss.
    Help!

  • IPod froze, then it was BLANK(all songs gone!). What happened?

First my iPod(2nd generation iPod nano) froze. This has happened 2 or 3 times before, and when it does, I've had to let the power run out, then turn it on. When I've done this before, it's always been fine: no longer frozen, all songs present, etc. This time, however, I let the battery run down, turned it on, and while it was no longer frozen, it was completely empty! All the songs were gone, and even my preferences had been reset.
I plugged it into my computer, and it said the iPod was "corrupted." I "Restored" it to its factory settings, and I have now sync'd it, so hopefully now it will work. I also downloaded yet another new version of iTunes, so if that was the problem, maybe now I'll be fine.
Still, I'd like to know just what caused this so I can prevent it from happening again. Anyone know?

I plugged it into my computer, and it said the iPod was "corrupted."
There's your answer. Occasionally it would appear that the iPod software becomes corrupt. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod may report used space and iTunes may show them. I've seen this problem many times here on the forums.
I can't answer your question as to why because I've never seen a plausible explanation.

  • All my song names, artists etc are gone and have been replaced with

I wanted to move my itunes library to external hard drive to make space on my internal hd. Ive been having trouble with backing up and to make a long story short, my music is gone of my hard drive ( internal), im now backing it up from the ipod directly to my external hd, I did it a bit wrong but its getting there anyway. The problem is that now all the song names, artists etc are gone and each one of my 9170 songs are just capital letters, like AURH, so i have no idea what is what. Anyone know what is goin on here and how to fix this?

Yes, the iPad is designed to erase all data, when you connect it to a new computer.  It only syncs the data that is on the computer you connect to, to the device.  If you don't have your epub and pdf documents on the computer, and set to sync via iTunes.......they will erase.
You need to move the data from the other computer, to the mac.  Once they are on the mac, you can connect the iPad, and sync it to the iPad.

Now I am unable to sync any songs, all my other songs are in my iPod touch and I am using a windows 7 computer. I have tried authorizing and deauthorizing my iTunes there's still no chance of hope. I am very worried about this please I require your help.

Last week I did not have this problem, but today I am having it again. Nothing has changed except that I updated the feed last night/early this morning. Is there any explanation why my episodes keep disappearing en masse from iTunes?

  • All the songs are gone....

I recently moved away to college and brought my new laptop with me. When i went to open my songs from my ipod mini to the library in my laptop it had a weird message that said something like this library will be the main server , and i clicked yes. Suddenly every single song is gone from my ipod. I already unplugged it and tried again, but all the songs were still gone. My home computer still has the songs but its four hours away... Is there anyway to get the songs back?

    Hi Amy
I hate to say it, but unless you have the songs in your iTunes library on your new laptop, then there's no way of getting them back until you can get home.
When you connected to your laptop it recognised that this was the first time the iPod had been connected and wanted to make the laptop the main library. By clicking yes you allowed the iPod to be updated from your laptop which I'm assuming has no music on it?...hence, no music on your iPod.
