All of a sudden, my Mac won't connect to my smtp outgoing mail server...

It looks for a connection, but never connects. No issues until this week, it's been working fine for 14 months.
Settings verifed with the ISP (Cox) but beyond that they were of no help. Mail sits in Outbox and won't send.
Anyone had this issue and how did you fix it?

I would troubleshoot by disabling firewall trying other devices like smart phones or other computers to see if they can
then I would look in the routers settings and verify using the webmail option that the password was not changed

    Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
    Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
    The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

    I have microsoft office 2010 for my mac. All of a sudden when I try to open power points i have saved on flash drives, I get gebberish and they don't open.  It isnt the flash drive because it is happening on every one I try to open.

    It could be opening it in a different (incompatible) application. If you have Office for Mac 2008 or 2011 then try opening Microsoft Office on your Mac first, and then opening the relevant Microsoft Office document.
    As MGW has said, Microsoft Office 2010 is the Windows version, and will not run on a Mac. If you do not have a Mac version of Mirosoft Office, you will either need to purchase it from microsoft.com/mac, or go to the Mac App Store and buy Keynote which is Apple's equivalent of PowerPoint. However, while it is incredibly compatible with Office documents (Apple's productivity suite), you may be better off getting Microsoft Office if you want to ensure full compatibility with the Microsoft Office document formats. However, Keynote is considerably cheaper being in the Mac App Store.

    Open the Sharing pane in System Preferences. If the Computer Name is not set, enter a name. You may first have to click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings.

    All of a sudden my keyboard won't type.  This happened before and it was just something that I hit accidentally that turned off the keyboard.  Can't remember how to fix it.  It was very simple, like pressing a couple keys and it worked.

    As I suspected, the keys aren't registering to allow you to boot from a CD or switch the startup disk. I am going to assume that you wont be able to reset the pram or do an SMC reset either. You can try anyway...
    PRAM reset
    hold Option + Command + P + R and press the power button. Hold those keys until you hear the startup chime at least 2 times.
    SMC Reset
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Safe boot
    Hold the shift key whilst rebooting.
    You can try these three things, but I'm leaning towards a hardware failure on this as it seems the KB is not functioning even prior to the OS loading.

    It's possible you have a defective charger and you don't have any juice left.  The first thing you should try is a reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go o both buttons and hopefully, your iPad will restart.  If that doesn't work, it's possible you just don't have a charge left.  You can trickle charge your iPad via your computer, it will take a loooong time, but even though it says it's not charging, it is, just verrrry slowly.  If that doesn't work, it's probably time to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your Apple Store.  If of course your wall charger isn't charging your device, it could be as simple as replacing the charger.

    I would suggest first,
    looking for the files (not in iTunes but on the desktop. If you find the files they've simply been removed from iTunes. - If you can't find the files they've been erased and there's not a lot that can be done.
    Removing files from and iPod is another question. Firstly, it IS difficult, but it can be done. There are numerous tutorials on the web on how to do it.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

    After 3 years of happily using iTunes store all of a sudden I can no longer connect. There is no error message, the attempted connection just hangs. Why?

    I am very new to macs and recently bought a Macbook pro, I have connected to my router a D-Link, DSL-G604T but when I enable WEP security the mac won't connect only my PC's will. I am prompted by the mac to put in my Encryption key but it still doesn't work. I am able to to set the router to WPA-PSK but get stuck on the length of the string that I am supposed to put in?     First, I strongly suggest that you use WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP for your wireless encryption...but if you must use WEP & work in a mixed (PC/Mac) environment...
    Always use Hex characters for WEP encryption. Either 10 Hex characters (for 40-bit WEP) or 26 Hex characters (for 128-bit WEP)
    If you use an ASCII password or passphrase, then use either 5 ASCII characters (for 40-bit WEP) or 13 ASCII characters (for 128-bit WEP)
    Note: Because manufacturers may use different algorithms to translate between ASCII & Hex, that this doesn’t always work, and is one of the leading causes of issues with keys.
