All of a sudden no videos (movies) just a black screen
Greeting!
I'm not a happy camper right now. One day Tuesday my iPod was working fine and the next all I get is a black screen when I play videos (movie and music videos).
I've been through the cycle of resetting the iPod a few times. I've gone into diagnostic mode and it passes every time!
I have not added anything since July 17th. So I don't know what's up! I did find this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2463229&tstart=0 were people are making the same complaints.
IDK I'm almost afraid to take it to an apple store for what they'll tell me. It's like taking your used car to the deal only for them to tell you that the repairs would cost as much as a new car. Follow me here? I love my iPod though! =( It's just to quirky that this is happening to a lot people at once.
And yes .. it's ALL my video. Some of these things I've had on there for well over a year and they've worked fine all this time.
Bump! Come on .. noooobody has had this issue yet? Hard to believe!

Good Day to you, my iTunes library seems to have gone a little odd today. Some music videos only seem to display as a black screen with sound when I try to play them but some play completely fine.
May I add, before today's incident all videos played correctly.
ThanksAfter fifty bucks and several hours on the phone with Apple here is how I resolved my issue;
To resolve the glitch we had iTunes select an external speaker, in this case my AppleTV. Next, I played a purchased video. and the picture restored. The tech and I figured that somehow the computer was attempting to send the video somewhere else via Airplay, much like an iPad would, and to restore the video we needed to reset the destination of the video.

I was almost finished editing my video and suddenly my video files just show a black screen and wont play.
MacBook Pro / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better. Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG. However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success. So here's what I did:
1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
5. Go back to the Get Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay! -
Downloaded a movie from iTunes to my iPad. 2 minutes into the movie it stopped and My Videos is stuck in black screen mode. So basically rented a movie and never watched it.
The EXACT same thing happened to me last night! Rented a movie; it had barely started and then froze. When I touch the video app icon, all I get is a blank, dimly lit screen. None of the other videos I own will display either. Was your problem ever resolved?

I have a mac OSX desktop version 10.6.8 and all of a sudden I can't get a full screen view in Safari when I ask for help the response is use the arrows on the top right of the screen ... I don't have them ... can anyone help?

I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved all the way to the left. Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close. Test playing the movie after processing these steps.
If the movie still displays a black screen, I would recommend deleting the movie and downloading it again free of charge by accessing your purchases via the iTunes Store.

Why all of a sudden is my display larger than my screen?
All of a sudden the display is larger than the screen. I have gone into System Preferences and Universal Access and the zoom is not on and I haven't changed the display or anything. HELP!!

Whenever I export my interactive indesign file to swf the videos won't play in the resulting html file, it's just a black screen. I'm using .mp4 videos as well.

Thank youUnless you held down the Command key when dragging the iPhoto Library package to the flash drive you only copied the library. How is the flash drive formatted? If it was not OS X Extended (journaled) the integrity of the library's internal structure was probably compromised.
If you don't have a current backup of your library do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database. -
just got a replacement iPhone 4s and i let the battery run down all the way before charging it and now that i have put it on the charger it won't turn back on or show any signs that it is charging. its just a black screen. how do i fix it
Keep iPhone on wall charger for ten minutes, it may turn ON itself. If still nothing, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to respond.

My phone died last night and when I plugged it in it wouldn't turn on.I tried restarting it but it has yet to turn on since last night,It was just a black screen,i try the on/off and home buttons together but its not working,What should I do?
How long have you had your phone? Because if you've had it a long time, the battery in the phone might of died on you. Or have you dropped it in water, snow, from high up? All those things could of disconnected something internally in your phone, or permentaly damaged the internal hard drive its self, or the sims card.

ITunes purchased shows do not playback just a black screen
My wife and son are leaving tomorrow to ME. We purchased ~1$12 worth of shows. They playback in iTunes application but do not playback on her iPod video 30GB and she is running 1.1.2 firmware.
You can select the video and feel the drive queueing it up but just a black screen is displayed. I have other videos I have converted myself and they work fine.
Any ideas on what causes this?bump

i had my phone on at the photo album screen today and left it that way for about 5 mins. (battery life was at about 45%) when i looked back at it, it was dead, and i couldn'get it working again. Currently its plugged into my computer but it still has no life in it. just a black screen.. absolutely no power at all. had it about a month. can't be a battery problem surely?

Hello, I can't turn my iphone 4s on, it just broke down and now there's just the black screen with the apple logo on it. So I connected it to itunes and tried to restore it, but than always the errors 1603 & 1611 appeared! please help me!!
You may have a faulty USB cable. Try another.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the iPhone.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help. -
i walked out of school and i was trying to get on my phone but it would not cut on.It was just a black screen.So when i got home and put it on the charger it keep vibrating but still a black screen. Did you ever figure out how to turn your phone on? Mine died today around noon for no reason. I'm so mad at it! I can't get it turned on, and I KNOW the battery is charged. Suggestions? I'm going to the genius bar (another trip completely out of my way) tomorrow morning. Suggestions?? Oh and please don't tell me to hold the "home" button and the "power" button together because I've been doing that all day. It doesn't work.
