All of my settings reset after I restart my iMac.

I've been having this problem for a little over a month now, I've spent countless hours researching, and every possible solution that I've come across hasn't worked for me. I've reset my PRAM, I've repaired my disk and permissions multiple times, even by using the Disk Utility on my Recovery Partition.
Basically, about two months ago I (regretfully) changed my account shortname by going to System Preferences>Users & Groups, right clicking on my account and changing the shortname in the advanced options.  Everything was fine, but now when I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper changes back to what it was on the day I changed my shortname, any apps that I add to my dock are removed after i restart, Safari opens up the guide that I was using to show me how to change the shortname, the "Users & groups" window even appears as soon as I log in to my account. Basically, my iMac seems to be booting back to the day I changed the shortname, now any changes I make aren't saved.
Everything keeps restting back to the way it was on the day that I changed my shortname.  Since then, I've changed the shortname BACK to what it was the first time, hoping that would fix the issue.
Also, I'm not sure if this is normal, but if I go to "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist", and check the permissions, "everyone" is on there twice:
It also does this for every other .plist file in my preferences folder.

You just can't change it all, not even back, which just doubles the problem.
Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory, (it can happen spontaneously too)...

Have you ever checked your preferences with Preferential Treatment? Might not be it, but worth a try.

The same story. No 3G after updating to 6.1.  Told my daughter temporarily not to do an update on her iPad with 6.01. We've exchanged SIMs. I inserted her SIM in my iPad - 3G appeared immediately. And my SIM in her iPad with ios 6.01 also WORKS FINE. We use the same provider - Megafon Moscow. After attempting to revert SIMs to original configuration, 3G disappeared on my iPad again. Don't know what's going on with SIM during the update to 6.1

I do the Erase All Content and Settings, How can i restart my  i phone 3gs?

Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
Hold them both until you see the screen go black. In some cases, you may need to keep holding them even after the red power off slider appears. If it does, just keep holding it.
Wait until the white Apple logo appears.
When this happens, you can let go - the iPhone is rebooting.
An iPhone reset will not normally remove or delete any data or settings. However, the term reset is also sometimes used to mean deleting all content from the iPhone and/or restoring from a backup.

  • Yosemite Notification Settings Reset After Reboot

I searched this issue and couldn't find a similar question. This makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. On each of my five computers running Yosemite (brand new and older Macs) after I reboot, all of my preferences for the Notification center go back to default settings. So if I say Facebook should not be in the Notification center and I deselect any banners or alerts, etc., as soon as I reboot, BAM! Facebook is right back there in the Notification center notifying me like there's no tomorrow. This is mostly annoying (unlike my wifi issues!!!), but I'm pretty sure the settings should stay put.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi there JAS_66,
It looks like the OS X 10.10.1 update addresses this issue. Take a look at the release notes below for more information.

    Hey gusy,
I've reseted All my Content and Settings after my Icloud backup. I wanted to download all my songs back on my phone. I could download most of them, but in some of them it says:This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID You can download past purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 63 days." Even though I bought the songs!

  • Settings reset after shutdown + popup

I don't usually shutdown my 2014 Macbook Air except the occasional freeze but recently decided to do so while I wiped the keyboard clean. Once I turned it back on and signed in, I found all my preferences reset including trackpad set to 'tap to click', dock icons reset to original, etc. It seems like everything was reset to factory settings.
I tried going to Preferences to change the trackpad to 'tap to click' but discovered that it was already set do so...yet I'm unable to 'tap to click'.
The other problem is I get this annoying popup which I've never seen before titled "OSX needs to repair your library to run applications". Even after entering the correct password, the popup reappears. Then I tried just hitting cancel repeatedly until it disappeared. That's when a different popup appeared--something titled "mail chain...enter your password"--can't remember exactly.
This was all occurring on one of my user accounts so I tried switching back to the original Admin account and found the same issues occurring there (the account also reverted back to factory settings).
Any ideas? Your help is much appreciated.

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • All system preferences / settings lost after restore

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I had to run a restore last night after a hanging software update. Basically what happened was I was running normal software update (tryna get that iPhone os update), and it got hung up installing something. I was forced to restart, and the machine would not restart...
So after going thru the requisite repair disk permissions and AppleJack to find my startup disk was not corrupted and still in fact had data on it (yet still couldn't restart) I just reverted my system to a pre-backup version via Time Machine, a backup that had occured just hours prior.
While I did not lose any data, I did lose:
    - my default itunes library was reset (i keep my music on a separate internal disk, I had to manually add all my music into the library)
    - extensions / bookmarks / settings / saved passwords in Firefox, Coda, FTP programs, etc
    - haven't checked yet, but possibly Apache / Ruby installs on my startup disk too
    - Dock / desktop background / mouse configuration / network configuation etc.
It's basically like a new computer but with my old files and applications installed on it.
is just how time machine works? i'm glad i didn't lose any data, but it's a real pain to set everything up the way i had it before...
    any insight would be rad!

    * I got home at ~8:30 PM to a screen that still said "Copying ..." some 100,000 files and no progress all day. Finder was frozen, couldn't do anything. had to hard restart
That sounds like corruption on your backups, but given what happened next, I don't think so:
    * now i'm getting the "no" symbol upon startup. great, that means it can't find os X on my startup disk. it goes to the next available startup disk, which happens to be another internal drive with windows XP on it.
That wouldn't be caused by the problem restoring Application Support.
    * i boot from the install disk again. run disk repair. install disk doesn't even show a formatted / S.M.A.R.T. verified disk in HD Bay 1. somehow hard restarting just totally ruined my startup disk...damnit.
    * i can't even start in single user mode.
    * try to erase and/or re-partition the startup disk from the Disk Utility on the CD, and can't do that either. it gives me some resource busy error. this appears to be a Leopard bug and fortunately I can reformat from the snow leopard install disk.
I'm very suspicious of your internal HD. Try this: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
so, i'm left with reinstalling os 10.5.x via install disk on my now erased / reformatted hard drive. after that, i'm going to try to (again) restore from the time machine disk (thank god all of my media and time machine backups are on separate hard disks...). Will a time machine restore into a freshly installed OS from a previous install?
Depends. A full restore, where you start from your Install disc, will erase the drive and restore everything, including OSX.
If you do an +Erase and Install+ of Leopard, then use +Setup Assistant+ (see #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), it will bring over everything you select except OSX. Then download and instal the "combo" update to get back to 10.5.8. http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.

  • Calendar Settings reset after reboot

    Hi,
Could anybody please check if you have the same issue on your phone?
Sony Calendar resets settings after reboot.
For example, if I set "Week starts on" = "Monday" and reboot the phone, this settings will be back to "Sunday" (which is the default).
I am now running Calendar 20.0.A.2.5, but I believe this bug was there before as well (even on my old Xperia V, I believe)
P.S. I found this topic, but either I didn't understand the solution correctly or it doesn't work for me... I tried to disable the Calendar app, but it didn't help in any way...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I will forward this internally for further investigation. I will update you as soon as i have more information.
But as a possible workaround, i suspect you have selected a country/region under Settings -> Language & input -> Language where the week normally is set to start on Sunday like English US? If you are in the Netherlands but want the phone on english you could try setting it to English UK instead to avoid this until i have more information.

  • Settings reset whenever I restart

Whenever I restart, it seems certain things go back to default. Like in the internet connect panel, I have my VPN to be displayed in my menu bar, but every time I restart my VPN is not in the menu bar and I have to go check the box again.
Also my volume resets to factory settings. So if it is on mute when I turn my computer off, it will be at about half volume when it starts up (and of course I will hear the startup sound).
I havn't found anything else happening, but does anyone know why this occurs?

We would need to know what kind of Mac you have so we can advise you correctly, if you would fill in your Mac's specs. in My Settings over on the right, near your name and under the logout choice please.

    Dear all,
i have utlized note 764176 - Error in XI due to inconsistent SLD entries.
I have done the steps which are stated in the note. One of them being restarting the J2EE server.
After restarting the J2EE server it registers and makes some entries in the CIM. For example the Adapterframework for the system. However, it only enters the XI adapter as an Adapter Service in the CIM.
None of the other services are listed.
    Any suggestions?
I am able to see the rest, i.e. Integration Server etc.

  • SnapDrive transport protocol settings lost after service restart.

    Hi everyone,
On one of our SQL Servers we have SnapDrive v.6.4.2, OS is Windows Server 2008 SP2, the server is in a workgroup, not in a AD Domain.
In SnapDrive transport protocol settings we have a storage system defined and everything works fine, but after restarting the SnapDrive service (mostly because of a server restart) the storage settings disappear (the storage system is no longer defined) and SnapDrive cannot see the VMDK LUNs, therefore SnapManager cannot take SQL Server backups.
Any help or suggestions regarding a solution to this problem will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sezgin

I am experiencing the same issue and the OS is Windows server 2003 SP2.  Even after adding the transport protocol settings I dont see LUNs getting displayed.

Hmm thanks for doing those steps for us. When you stated that you have done the reset on the phone, did you do a full factory reset or Rest Network Settings:http://vz.to/1gB9rgc I would also suggest that we try to remove the sim card from the device. You can complete that step by looking at this link for the steps: http://vz.to/1bb5oDU Please keep us posted.
