All of the photos in my text messages have disappeared and been replaced with a question mark image. Where did they go?

I updated my ios two or three weeks ago, but suddenly beginning this morning all of the photos in my text messages have disappeared. They have been replaced with question mark placeholders. I can't access any videos/photos that either I have sent or others have sent to me. I did nothing to instigate this change (no software updates, etc.) and have already tried resetting my phone multiple times.

I have the same condition on my iPhone only. I also have an iPad, a Macbook Air and an iMac that share the same iCloud account. Messages with photos seem to work fine on all devices except my iPhone. All of a sudden all the photos in my iPhone message streams have disappeared and been replace by question mark placeholders. I rebooted all devices, shut down messages, and rebooted, restarted, with no luck. Very bizarre and extremely frustrating. Any suggestions?

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

The disk folder you're describing sounds a lot like the Windows Favorites folder. That's actually completely independent from Firefox's bookmark storage.
After your upgrade, did you freshly install Firefox? In that case, the problem might be an incomplete import of your Windows Favorites (IE Favorites) instead of an incomplete recovery of your old Firefox bookmarks.
To see whether you still have your Firefox bookmarks, in your backup -- for example, the C:\Windows.old\ folder, or a backup on external media -- could you try to track down a folder named '''bookmarkbackups'''. By default, this is hidden folder, so you may need to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders. This article has the steps: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files].

It's likely that by the time there is an answer the data to allow recovery will be long gone, but this really make me angry. I have been operating with the same tabs for months now, and by using tab groups... poof, now all gone. I use tabs precisely because digging around to find all these pages is a time consuming task. some I don't use for a week or two, but when I needed them, there they were. '''BIG BLACK MARK''' awarded to Firefox on this one! My trust level of this software, which had been very high just went to below IE, which is really saying something.

I'm guessing if your contacts are gone from the cloud, they're gone unless you can get them back with a "restore backup". If they are still on the cloud, plug your IP/iPad into iTunes, open Contacts and select "On my Mac" on the left side of the window. Then sync and your contacts should appear on your IP/iPad.
At least they did for me using this routine.

That's weird that these iphones are restored/activated through iTunes. I have a Apple so I have iTunes, yay!! I am guessing that the link that you gave me will tell how to put this iphone into Recovery mode? Now, this old iphone would of been activated on his laptop, which is with him and he is out of state. I have a new Apple, his new iphone would of been activated on our new Apple computer because he was here for Christmas and he didn't bring his laptop with him, or did he bring it with him, I don't remember now.... Now the question is, will I be able to restore his old iphone on my new computer seeing it would of activated on his laptop which is with him out of state. Yes - email & text work fine but when I use something like Google Images or search a blog with imbedded photos I get the empty white boxes with question marks. If I click the question mark it opens the photo but I can't possibly do that for EVERY image on EVERY page I search!?!?! I've rebooted the iPad & my wireless card several times but neither action helped. Have any clue what I should do now?

If these do not resolve the issue or if you are not comfortable with proceeding through these steps then take your Mac to an Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. An Apple store will perform these initial steps, diagnose the problem, and give an estimate for repairs (if needed). You are using Snow Leopard so you have no OPTION+R shortcut. You need to boot the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD or USB flash drive.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Not for the iPhone. Go to Safari, go to maps.google.com, then add the bookmark to the desktop and you have most of what was in the native Google Maps app.

Half of the photos in my completed books have disappeared. How do I restore them?

I have 6 finished book projects on iPhoto. On the most recent 5, half of the photos are gone. The captions remain. When I opened iPhoto recently it upgraded my photo library automatically. After this happened, the books were altered. How do I get them back the way I created them? The instructions on iPhoto support for restoring photos from Time Machine do not make sense.

To restore photos:
Quit iPhoto.
Connect your Time Machine drive.
In the Finder, open the folder containing your iPhoto Library. Unless you've moved your iPhoto Library, it can be found in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library.
Enter Time Machine. (Time Machine can be found in the Dock or in the /Applications folder.)
Choose your desired backup. The timeline on the right side of the screen displays a purple tick mark for each of the backups stored on your Time Machine drive.
Select the iPhoto library you would like to restore, and click the Restore button.
iPhoto may prompt you to repair your library if there are some inconsistencies in your files. If so, please allow it to proceed by clicking the Repair button. If you notice blank thumbnails, reopen iPhoto while holding down the Command and Option keys. When the Rebuild iPhoto Library window appears, enable the "Rebuild all of the photos’ thumbnails" checkbox. This may take a long time, depending on the size of the library.
Additional Information
Always quit iPhoto before restoring from Time Machine.
Time Machine canʼt do a full iPhoto Library backup when iPhoto is open. To ensure that Time Machine does a complete backup of your library, periodically quit iPhoto before backing up.
My Time Machine does not have a screen on the right side with purple tick marks. Nor does it show any iPhoto libraries or give me a restore option. BUT, perhaps it isn't really Time Machine, as it's icon reads: My Passport. So I may be out of luck with the Time Machine Option anyway.

All of the sudden my entire text message history was deleted, but if I search for a text it shows up in the results but will not open. How can I restore the old text messages?

I went to text message on my phone and when I looked down my entire text message history was gone. When I sent a text message it showed up as the only box an there was not an Load Older Messages option. But when I page over and search a word or name old messages show up in the results and when I press on them it opens the text message page but there is no text message.

i think that was the problem. i simply downgraded to Firefox 5, not only because of the highlighted text fields, but because i was getting a lot of crash reports whenever i opened multiple tabs. downgrading to Firefox 5 resolved it.

Is there a way to see the time of each text message, time it has been sent?

I'm trying to prove a point to someone. I sure you used to be able to see what time someone sent you text messages it used to appear under the message or something. why is is not there anymore?

Yes there is. When you're in the Messages app, swipe your finger across the screen towards the left and the time stamps will appear. When you let go, they go again.
