All Photos disappeared . Pls HELP !!

About 2 days back my iPhoto disappeared without warning.I have since got the iPhoto library however all the pictures are gone.I do not have any back ups.
I have tried the steps mentioned on other post but nothing seems to help.
(When i follow this step : iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder) , there's no Original folder.

Image search in HD shows only about 10 pics and no sign of my 24 events saved over the past year.
Is there anything that can be done to recover the pictures? It really is not fair on anyone to spend $100+ on those recovery tools for something that happened without any fault of theirs.
Any help will be very much appreciated . Thank You !
P.s : Called the technical support today. The lady on the other hand was not only NOT helpful at all but was very condescending. This is the first time i had to contact Apple Support , and it turned out to be a bitter experience.

Sad first time Mac User.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. This is a first. I've not heard of a library removing the Originals and Modified folder for any reason.
First, download and run Find File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". Find File will search in areas that Spotlight does not. If you find another Library6.iPhoto file then you have another library and that may be where the photos are.
Use can use Find File to also search for ".jpg" to see if it can find any more than the 10 pics you've found.
If all else fails you'll need to use a 3rd party application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to recover the deleted image file. FileSalvage will run in demo more to indicate if it can salvage your deleted files before you have to purchase it. Data Rescue II 1.2.2 is another application that can recover deleted files.
Although the horses are out of the barn you might consider getting an external firewire hard drive for backup up your important file with Time Machine. The HDs are not expensive, about the price of the file recovery apps. I just bought a Seagate Freagent-Desk 500 GB external HD yesterday for $90.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Simple and fast solution: restore from your back up.
    Other than that:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Uploaded photos by an SD-Card stored in an album. Next day all photos disappeared.

I live in Germany. After my visit in the U.S. two weeks ago I ´ve got following problem with my MacBook Air:
I import photos to iPhoto as usual and after one day these photos disappeared. I tried to find them through "Finder" without success.
What I do get since that is the message: "Files will be uploaded to the Mediathek". And that needs days and days......
Never had this before and I am really upset, because I think about loosing all these nice holiday memories.
Please, can anybody help me ?

I import photos to iPhoto as usual and after one day these photos disappeared. I tried to find them through "Finder" without success.
    edihei,
what exactly happened when you imported your photos?
    as usual
how exactly? You imported the photos from your card directly into iPhoto? And did you delete them from the card or are they still on the card?
Did you see the photos in events in iPhoto after import? Have you worked with them and edited them before you ejected the card and quit iPhoto?
"Files will be uploaded to the Mediathek"
What is the exact message (gerne auch auf Deutsch!)?
This message suggests that you may not have let iPhoto finish the import, before you quit the program and removed the card.

    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • All photos disappeared from iphoto

I went to bed last night leaving my iphoto to upload 300 pictures to a mobile me gallery, when i can to my machine this morning all photos gone,
i have run my library from my time capsule, i have tried to open from my TC and nothing, any ideas what has happened ?

What connection do you have to the TC? Wired or Wireless?
As to recovery: My guess is that your Library db is damaged:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • New Macbook Pro with Lion, installed Aperture - all photos disappear

    Just bought a MacBook Pro:
    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1
My old computer crashed so I transfered a folder full of photos to my computer inside of a Documents file.  Some of these photos came from my previous version of iPhoto and some of the were not imported into any program at all.  I want to clean and organize my photos before importing them into any program. I do not wish to create extra clutter on my computer by importing them at this time, being that I have a very clean machine at this time.
So, I got Aperture, newest version (software updated as of this morning) and was planning to import my photos once I organized all of them.
However, now that I've installed Aperture, the folder of my pictures that is located in My Documents is now reading that there are (0) photos, so I can't even organize them.  Also, if I run Aperture and try to import a photo, it doesn't recognize that any photos exist.
Now, if I look up All My Files in the Finder window, it shows that I do infact have over 9k Images, most of these being my photos that are not showing up in their file folder.  Some of these however are not conventional photos but are PDFs that I do not wish to hang out in any photo organizing/editing program.
So, why can't I see my photos so I can organize them via my Finder folder in My Documents when I recovered them from my old computer?
They were never imported into my new computer's iPhoto, nor were they ever imported into my new computer's Aperture.  But I can all of them in the All My Files?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to find my photos, they were strangly refiled in a different file folder.
Seems like Aperture is still having troubles populating the images, but I find if I open and close import, or close and repoen Aperture, then the photos will populate.
    Buggy though for sure.

  • Update thumbnails - all photos gone, please help

I was prompted to update my thumbnails in my iPhoto library. I chose yes and now all my photos are gone.
I tried already the alt key and I am being asked to create a new library or to choose an existing one. If I choose again the existing one it opens empty. I tried as well the iPhotolibrary Manager but it recovers only my photos, no events, dates and the library is then a bit messy.
Anyone experiencing the same problem? I am using iPhoto '08 7.1.5.

This won't help you know but in the future if you have similar issues the tip at the end of my signature below can help you quickly recover.
*HOWEVER, I think I've found a way you can get that Library6.iPhoto file out of TM:*
1 - while *in the Finder* open the Backups.backupdb folder on your Time Machine drive.
2 - drill down to the Pictures folder in your user account for the date just before the problem occurred.
3 - Control+click on the iPhoto library package and select Show Package contents from the drop down menu.
4 - locate and drag the Library6.iPhoto file to your desktop.
5 - replace the damaged file with the one from TM.
I think that will do it.
• All photos disappeared after it told me to update

I tried opening aperture, but it told me it needed to update and that i wouldnt be able to open this photo library with an older version of aperture.
i dont really know what this meant, so i went through with it. it took  no more than 10 seconds, but when i re-opened, all my photos were gone except for one project. can someone PLEASE help me?

You can have as many Aperture libraries on your computer as you want, but the library is specific to the version of Aperture that created it.
If you've Aperture 2, but download a "Trial" copy of Aperture 3, then Aperture 3 would have created a new library (the licensed version will upgrade your Aperture 2 library but the "trial" version will not... it'll create a 2nd library.)
I'm thinking you've got two versions of Aperture and more than one library and are trying to open an Aperture 3 library with Aperture 2 software.
Go into your "Applications" folder and check to see if you have more than one version of Aperture installed.  If so, you should probably remove Aperture 2.  If you highlight the icon, right click and select "Get Info" you can check the version.  If your software is fully up-to-date then Aperture 3 should show it is version 3.1.2.

  • IPhoto  7.1.5 (375) ... All photos disappeared

My iPhoto is doing this to me again.. This is the third time!!
iPhoto.. no photos, no events, no nothing. On my external WD My Book hard disk, the iPhoto Library, Modified and Originals folders are still there. The iPhoto Library has the exact time when I last accessed iPhoto and it shows it has 48.8G in it.
I called Apple Care hotline the past two times iPhoto "crashed" and they took me through all the steps to re-load all the photos from the Modified and Originals folders. Of course it ended up with duplicated events... some 2, some 3 dupes. And before I could de-dup those events, I got hit the 3rd time!!
Can one of you experts tell me what to do now to bring all the photos back into iPhoto please?... without creating all the duplicated events? I really don't want to do the de-dups. It is wasting so much time!
What can I do to avoid the crash again in the future?
    Thanks guys.
    Wilson

My MyBook is the Studio Edition II Dual-Drive Storage System with RAID. It is formatted for Mac. The problem with it is that once in a while, the Mac "lost connection" with it. I have to unplug the firewire for a few seconds, re-plug it in, then it will make the connection again.
That is scary - iPhoto is very sensative to having its disk access interrupted while updating the library6.iPhoto file - the database description file. You should make frequent iPhoto library backups and download Old Toad's automator script to quickly and easily backup the library6.iPhoto file to avoid additional problems when this "lost Connection" occures. And I'd use Apple Care and/or your MyBook tech support to try to get to the bottom of this "lost connection" - it is just a matter of time until that causes major problems for you wit a program losing data while trying to write to your EHD
I should stop paying for Apple Care and buy gifts for helpful Users like you on here!!
I always purchase Apple care for new products

  • All data gone pls help

    Hi,
I had massive problems with my applications on my Blackberry Z10 (STL 100-2) after I once used the flight mode. The battery was warm, some apps did not start. I decided to reboot the phone and it was just stuck on the blackberry logo (not the loading circle). I tried everything, pushing the power button for 10 seconds, battery pull, connecting to the PC with USB with and without the battery, loading on the wall charger for one hour, then taking out the battery for a millisecond, while the phone was charging and then putting the battery back, another battery from a properly working device and and and. The phone was stuck in the loop. If I tried to shut it off, the LED was red for couple of seconds and then it showed the BlackBerry Logo again, for hours. In the beginning of this catastrophe I just left it like that for hours but it got so warm that I did not want to risk the motherboard to melt.
I did not want to factory reset the divice (restore), since I did not have a backup of my stuff (I usually don't connect my phone to computers). The most important were my Remember app notes so the application data (or settings data?)
Finally I decided to do a software update as I actually thought it wouldn't do anything to my data. At least it was written on the official Blackberry website: "Data and settings on your device before you begin updating your software will be on your device when the software update is complete." I visited the BB website and after one hour my phone booted but all data was gone.
I updated the software using the BlackBerry website but it required to start BlackBerry Link. Today I have found an interesting folder: Application Loader (User-AppData (hidden folder)-Local-Research in Motion-Application Loader...). There are two big files, format .bar and .signed. According to the time it was saved at it was was BEFORE the update had been started. I read somewhere that by updating a BlackBerry with BB Link the phone system will be backuped automatically. So it could probably be the backup files. However it is not the usual file format .bbb or .ipd. and these are two files.
Any Ideas what these files are? How can I open them?
My files have to be somewhere. I really need my Remember App notes (they were not synched mit Evernote or something like that). I also never used an SD Card or "Backup pro" or "Password keeper".
The new Software Version is 10.2.1.2977 (OS 10.2.1.3247). I have already tried it with couple of recovery tools like Recuva however it did not work since my phone is not recognized as a flash or physical mass storage device. In my computer it is shown as networkaddress so non of the recovery tools is able to access the internal memory. The mass storage mode is by the way only for the inserted sd cards...
Is there a possibily to recover the notes despite the update (or 10 seconds reset) with help of both .bar and .signed files? Or any other ideas? Please help!!!!
    Many prethanks!!!

  • File with all photos disappeared

    Hi all,
A few days ago, I finished sorting out my thousands of pictures out into neat files, which I then stored on a main file on my Desktop. When I was done, I dragged that file from the Desktop to Finder, under the menu on the left, where it says Downloads, Documents, etc. It stayed put, so I moved on to do other things.
Today, I noticed it's not there! I've searched for the file everywhere, and looked in Trash, of course. There is no way I would have deleted that file. And if I had, it would still be in my Trash, along with all the other things I have in there from over a month ago (the last time I cleared out the Trash).
I just used a data recovery program, and as I thought, there is nothing to be found. There must be literally thousands of pictures in that file, and I need them back! Any ideas? I'm a first time MAC user, and for now, I'm hating it

I'm not sure what you mean by: When I was done, I dragged that file from the Desktop to Finder, under the menu on the left, where it says Downloads, Documents, etc. and figuring out what you actually did is likely to be important.
Do you remember the name of any of the pictures? If so, click on the magnifying class up in the top right of the menubar to get the Spotlight search window. Type in the name of the picture file and wait a second. (Typing in a partial name will work too, as will typing in an extender such as .jpg)
If you scroll down to the bottom of the list of found items you should see the option Show all in Finder... which will open a window with everything that was found. Double click on that option to open that window.
If/When you find one of your pictures, select it in the window and look at the bottom of the window. You should see a disk hierarchy showing the location of the picture. That should help you figure out where the main folder is hiding so you can go find it and place it in the Pictures folder of your drive space.
