All Photos in Iphoto 8 Deleted

I accidentally deleted all of my photos in iphoto on my mac book.  I was using iphoto 8.  Everything else is there... my slide shows, my events, but no photos.  I did back up with time machine two days ago.  I was running Leopard when I backed up with time machine.  I upgraded to snow leopard yesterday.  Then today I was trying to clear space on my hard drive and I hit empty trash in the iphoto window.  It deleted all of my photos.  What can I do?  I haven't tried anything yet.  But my time machine backup from two days ago should be good.  What should I do to try to restore my pics.  I was going to just restore the entire mac.... but I was reading some post that say just restore my photo library.  What is best and how do I do it. Please explain it to me like I am a dummy.  Thanks,
Mike

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

  • Help! Lost all photos in iphoto

Try to cut all photos from iphoto to extra hard drive, not notice all photo is too big, over 20,000 pics, over 10G.
when click paste, the system died.and all photo gone..
Please help advise how to restore all photos...

Where did you cut from?  The Finder for from within iPhoto?  If it was from the Finder you've damaged the library.  If from within iPhoto apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
To copy your Photos easily to the Desktop in the same order as they are in Events use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the settings shown in this screenshot:
Then drag the folders to the EHB drive.

  • Deleted all photos in iPhoto, but library is still 30GB

    Hi,
I started using iPhoto when I first got my Macbook Pro in January. I have since purchased Aperture and I imported all my photos from iPhoto into Aperture. I just left the photos alone in iPhoto, but I decided that Aperture is doing it for me and wanted to delete all the photos in iPhoto. I did this, but my iPhoto library is still nearly 30GB in size!?! I deleted the trash and here are no photos visible in the iPhoto application, yet it's still 30GB in size. I don't understand. Can someone help?
What happens if I just delete the iPhoto library from my Pictures folder in the Finder? Would that work?
    Thank you,
    Scotty

Given that you tried to delete that amount of data from iphoto in one go it's very possible that the db was corrupted and it failed to clear out all the files.
What happens if I just delete the iPhoto library from my Pictures folder in the Finder? Would that work?
That's exactly the way to do it.

  • IPhoto disk space full - but all photos have been deleted

Several days ago I transferred all photos/videos from iPhoto to an external hard drive.  I deleted everything in iPhoto, emptied the iPhoto trash.
However, when I attempt to store a photo in the "empty" iPhoto, this message comes up:
"The disk containing your iPhoto library is running low on space."
I've explored the issue via Google and the Apple communities, and the only possible factor could have been that there were photos stored in my iPhone cache.  Tracked it down, but nope - it is empty.
    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash
These are *exactly* the issues I was having, and which prompted me to move files over to an EHD.  Watching the little colored wheel spin was agonizing...
The iPhoto Library will be in your Pictures Folder. Drag that to the trash and empty it.
Found it!  Mac is now in the process of deleting 4,182 photos.
You've been very helpful - I've learned things that will help me down the road.
    Many, many thanks.
Message was edited by: Layne  Oooops... Went to click "This solved my problem" under your post and it landed up in mine...  Any tips on how to remove it?  "Edit" doesn't seem to help.
**NOTE TO READERS** If anyone refers to this discussion for assistance, please note that it was Terence Devlin who solved my problem (not me!).  Kudos to Terence.

  • How can I import all photos from iPhoto and delete all the ones currently on my iPad?

I uploaded all of my iPad's photos to iPhoto('08) thinking it would be easier to delete and organize them. Now that I've done that in iPhoto I need help finding out how to delete all the photos from the iPad and have the iPhoto photos imported from iPhoto back to the iPad.

This workflow may do what you want:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.
2 - connect the iPad to your Mac with the new library open.
3 - import all of the photos from the iPad into the new library.
4 - select the option to delete all of the photos from the iPad.
5 - disconnect the iPad and delete the new library.
6 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select your original library.
7 - assemble the photos destined for the iPad so you can easily identify them by album or event which you alread have done.
8 - launch iTunes and connect the iPad to your Mac.
9 - go to the photos section for you iPad and synce those particular albums or Events with the iPad.
That will get those specific iPad photos back into the iPad.

  • Somehow lost ALL photos in iphoto without deleting them

Somehow I lost ALL the photos in iphoto without deleting them. I was deleting word documents, as this computer belong to my sis-n-law. I restarted the computer and it went to the original factory state. My ical was back to factory. ALL my photos were gone!!! Not sure what I did. PLEASE HELP!!!
    Mac OS X Version 10.4.11. iMac, 7,1

What I was hoping to do is upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I was removing old word documents that were my sister-n-laws, as this was her computer she used for work. So, there was a lot of stuff I didn't need and wanted to free up memory. I didn't delete any system files or anything like that. The next day I restarted the computer and it set everything back to the original factory state. ALL my photos were gone, my iCal was back to factory and my Safari bookmarks were gone. I did get back or found some documents I created. But Can't find or get back any of the Photos!

  • Not all photos in iphoto are syncing to ipad

I hope someone can help me with this!  I noticed that not all of my photos are syncing to my iPad (original) anymore even though I have "sync all" checked on the photos tab of my iPad in iTunes.  I have recently uploaded pictures from my sd-card onto my MacBook Pro from the little reader slot as well as photos from my iphone.  All of these photos are organized into Events in iPhoto.  My camera is about a year old so I've uploaded pictures many times before, but there are also pictures from two other cameras in the library.  There are pictures from the newer camera that HAVE synced onto the iPad.  For example, we have a ton of pictures from our trip to California (one event in iPhoto) last spring in which half of them show up on the iPad and the other half do not.
Also, if relevant, my iphone is about 2.5 years old (holding out for the new version!), and it seems like some of the pictures from the phone are synced onto the iPad from iPhoto and some aren't.
My ipad and laptop both have plenty of space for the pictures so I don't think that's the issue.
    Advice I've seen so far...
After searching through these boards and googling the issue, I've read a lot about deleting the iPod Photo Cache, but I don't know if this is really for the same issue.
Additionally, I found a post on another site that mentioned an issue if the images have the same file name.  It doesn't seem to matter to iPhoto if the names are the same, but it sounds like it may matter to the iPad (according to the one post that I read)?  If that's the case, I don't know how I would ever prevent this from happening because my DSLR will always number the pictures in order, which is what my Point & Shoots did as well.  I'm pretty sure that's standard for all cameras.  If I were taking a few pictures every so often, it wouldn't be a big deal to change the names of each image, but when I'm loading 500 pics at a time, which is generally the case, I can't rename them all.
Help with this is much appreciated!

If the file format is compatible with the iPad, the photos should sync. The camera will name the files automatically as far as I know and if you never changed the names before - and simply imported the photos into iPhoto, that shouldn't matter.
Deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder seems to work for many, many users with this problem. There is no guarantee that it will work, but it is easy to do and it's harmless since a new photo cache folder will be created when you sync again.
Here is an article that explains how to delete the folder and where itcan be found.

  • Lost all photos after iphoto latest iphoto update

I have just lost all my photos in iphoto after latest update. Anyone knows whats going on?
Over 3,000 photos for last 15 years and I am devastated not forgetting I relly on apple as I own most of their products.
I see a trend in apple updates, deleting of user data as similar thing happened with email when I updated to OSX Mountain Lion way back.
Apple should know not forget user data is more importnat than updates as there is no point owning a device that will not give me confort that my data is safe.

    Hi Terence,
I installed iPhoto Library Manager, and it's a great program, however I am still having issues.
I discovered today in the Day One App, as well as Mail that the Photo Browser contains the missing photos, projects etc. See image below. I have no idea where these photos are kept and when I search for the name of a photo, the photo does not appear.
I clicked on Aperture and it would like me to Upgrade, and I'm not sure if I should, please advise.
Lastly in the iPhoto Library Manager, when I select add library and click on Aperture I get the messsage attached.
Do you have any insight on this.  It looks like the photos are there, I just don't know where to look.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How do I sync all photos in iPhoto album to iPad3?

Greetings! I have 66 photos in an iPhoto album. When I sync only 41 will transfer. All software is updated. I have deleted album and created from scratch. Still no joy. I also trashed my iPod photo cache. Some photos were download from camera; others synched from iPhone. Would this make a difference?
BTW, all photos show up in Photostream.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Roberta

I should also be clear that I am using the iPhoto app on an iPad.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Can you upload photos that iPhoto "deleted" but are still on camera?

I was in the middle of uploading to iPhoto from my Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 when the camera's battery died. iPhoto said there'd been an interruption, etc. When I went to re-try uploading the photos once the battery was charged, only some of the photos uploaded. Unfortunately I didn't realize this and so when iPhoto asked me if I wanted to delete the photos on the camera, I said yes.
I have looked on the camera and the photos are still there in the same place they always appear when I review them, although some of them have a circle w/ an X through it in the bottom right-hand corner of the image. iPhoto says there are no photos to upload.
I disconnected the camera, turned it off, quit iPhoto, started up the camera, reconnected it; iPhoto started up again, but still says there are no photos to upload. I did not use the camera to delete the images, I only clicked "delete photos" in iPhoto. I have noticed that only clicking "delete photos" in iPhoto means that the images remain in the camera, though perhaps in a different folder. It is only when I actually use the camera to delete the photos that they are truly gone.
Does anyone have suggestions as to how to get these images to upload to iPhoto? Thanks so much.

    k2k
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
1 - try image capture (in your applications folder)
2 - mount the camera to the desktop and see if you can download the photos using the finder
3 - if that does not find them then use media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the trial version will tell you what it can recover before you purchase
4 - in the future it is recommended that you never have iPhoto (or any other computer program) delete your photos - always import your photos (using a card reader is better in many people's opinion) and properly disconnect your camera, test them in iPhoto and then use your camera to format the card hereby deleting the photos and reformatting the card

  • IPhoto browser can't see all photos in iPhoto

When i use the iPhoto Browser only about half of the photos in iPhoto show up. I've seen some posts of similar issues but no clear resolution. Any ideas?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I have adobe 3:2 starter and all photos have been deleted but still have thumbnails, can i restore photos

please can some one help me to restore my photos from my thumbnails due to my son deleting my photo file where i used to keep them

Boy, I wish Adobe had a special OOPS! folder for all of us who accidentally deleted photos.  I lost 5 photos.  I deleted them from Adobe after I moved them to their own special folder in My Documents, but they're not there.  I've been trying to recover them for the past few days using data recovery programs like iUndelete and iRescue, but no luck.
Is Photo Well the same thing as thumbnails?  I've read where some people who have lost their photos still are able to view them as thumbnails, but if it's the same thing as Photo Well, mine don't show up there, either.  I can't remember if I chose "delete from hard disk" but I must have, because I've searched my computer and can't find them.
QUESTION:  By any chance are deleted photos assigned a different name than the original photos?  Maybe I've been searching for the wrong files all along????  Ugh, I'm about to give up, but does anyone know anywhere else I can look?  I've already emptied my Recycle Bin.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.
