All Pictures are black

All I can see in iPhoto are thumbnails, thumbnails and more thumbnails. Nothing but thumbnails!
I've done:
Repair Permissions
Rebuild Thumbnails
Repair Database
Rebuild Database
I've created a brand new blank library and imported a new photo.
I've done a Reveal in Finder=>Original File and looked at and viewed the picture in a preview.
But absolutely nothing will allow me to view a photo. Old photos, newly imported photos. Photos imported from my phone. Photos imported from my camera. Photos imported from my son's camera.
What can I do? I'm desperate.
I think this happened after I upgraded to Mavericks but I can't be sure.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Most pictures are black in Photo's preview

    Hi!
I restored a backup from Time Machine. Now most pictures are black in Photo's preview. How can I fix this?
    Thank you

Did you restore an iPhoto Library or a Photos Library?  Are your photos RAW or JPEG?
And how did you restore from Time Machine? Did you drag the library from the drive or did you open Time Machine and used "Restore"?

  • Got a new computer Loaded LR  Copied back up from old computer and placed in LR folder in Pictures Open LR and opened catalog In Library all sub folders and pictures are listed  However all pictures are only Gray no pic

Bought a New computer loaded  -  LR application--  appears to loaded ok.  Copied Backup from old computer Wanted to have pics on new computer   Saved Backup to LR folder in Pictures   When opening Catalog  all sub files and corresponding number of pictures are correct However all pictures are blank with gray color.  Need to understand what I have done wrong.

    Sam,
Sorry, wasn't to clear on my description (and wrong terminology)
The old computer was an OSX machine running iPhoto and I had a library of photos as well as a series of albums associated with that library.
The new computer, also an OSX machine running iPhoto, copied over the library from the old machine using the "migrate" utility. I didn't run it on the first time I ran the machine, but I ran it after I had been using the new machine for a couple of days.
What I can see on the new machine is all the folders in the Photo folder in the User folder have been copied over into the iPhoto folder. All the jpg files appear to be there.
When I open iPhoto on the new machine, it opens right away, and on the left side I can see the albums have all been imported but they are all empty. The library is also empty.
Not sure what I can do to keep my album organization.
I guess I have the option to add to library and just copy all the jpg files into the new machine, but doing this gets everything into the new library, but doesn't import any of the albums.

  • All iPhone4 Flash Pictures Are Black Dark?

I searched the forums and don't see this particular problem. It might have coincided with an IOS upgrade on my iPhone4, but I'm not sure. This did used to work, but now any flash picture I take with my iPhone4, the short preview looks OK, but the thumbnail and saved pictures are both black. I tried rebooting the phone, Auto and manual flash, HDR, etc. with no change. Movies with the flash on are OK. Has anyone else seen this or know how to fix?

i also have this problem. except the preview with mine is also black. anyone figure anything out yet?

  • When i print from the web pictures are black and white not color

Having trouble with printing from web the pictures are not color on;y black and white. Ink levels are fine and I have run cleaning and aligning tools. What other solutions am I missing?

I have tried 100%, AutoZoom, Page width, page fit and actual size and they are all the same size. About 2/3s the size it should be. My printer is set correctly
and I also reset the printer in msconfig as suggested by another helper. It changed to default and this has not helped. Do I need to reset the msconfig file back to user?

  • After installing OS Yosemite I have been unable to update iPhoto, It's been 2 days.  All pictures are gone.  Need help.

I installed OS Yosemite and I got the following message "The Photo Library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. I clicked Updgrade, but it  has been two days and it hasn't been able to upgrade my library and none of my picture are showing. Don't know what to do. Please help.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Unable to view photos in iPhoto, although all pictures are still accessible via Finder?

Last week, I was trying to import some pictures from a USB flash drive. During the import, I got an error that some of the pictures were corrupt and iPhoto '08 7.1.5 stopped the process. At that time, iPhoto still showed all my events and pictures correctly.
The next day however, iPhoto was completely empty and did not show any event/picture. It simply says 'no photos' at the bottom (in Dutch):
None of the rebuilding features solve the problem (iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library).
Via Finder, I'm able to access the iPhoto library (and I only see 1 library at the location) and view the master files all sorted per year. All pictures open perfectly when I double click them in preview.
If I simply try to drag these pictures to iPhoto, I get an error saying that they are unrecognised/unreadable:
How do I get these events/pictures back in iPhoto?
    Thanks for your help!

It appears you'll haver to do the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • All pictures are over exposed

All my pictures in Apertura are over exposed. If I ajust the exposure down with a fraction the red color goes away. The preview pictures are fine. I have left the pictures in there original library position. This happend after a few days use og Apertura. Did I hit a wrong key?

The Red (or Blue for underexposed) is not really there.  It only appears to alert you, and lets you choose to address or not.  The iPhoto is just not showing you that.
You can click View, and then assuming Highlight Hot and Cold is checked, uncheck it.  You can then forget it if the photo looks good enough to you.
But you can address it on one photo, click on Metadata, and then Lift Adjustments.  Then you can choose one or more other images, and Stamp the same adjustment.

  • All tools are blacked out in CS3

I have looked high and low, and cannot find anything on this subject..I have attached an image to clarify.. but basically all my tools are blacked out and I can't see what the heck they are.. Its like driving with your windshield covered in tar paper.. I'm running CS3 on a dual core Intel PC.
And I successfully ran CS3 on this PC for the last 3 years, and then all of a sudden it started doing this..and none of the other Adobe products I run are having this problem. Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, etc..
This is what I've done so far to no avail.
I ran the Adobe script to clean up any stray dll's
After that didn't work I went ahead and completely rebuilt my pc from scratch, reformatted the hard drive and re-installed XP and CS3
I've cleaned out/trashed my preferences and nothing
I've gotten all the relevant updates from Adobe for CS3
I've even installed CS3 on another machine and opened up the same files I work on and it all works fine on other pc's..
I've attached the image below to show what it looks like.. any help is much appreciated!!
    Todd

So I turned the hardward acceleration way down, and went with the windows classic theme and that got me thru most of yesterday..
But this morning we're back to square one.. ARGHGHGHGHGH
I do have a custom screen resolution..
I have two monitors running at 1680 x 1050 pixels..  at the highest color quality - 32 bit..
When I rebuilt this PC i donwloaded the latest video drivers so those are up to date..
I do think we're getting close.. it has something to do with the monitors or themes I think..
But I did run this setup for 3 years and it worked fine..
And it did break before I updated to the latest drivers..
    What else...hmmm

  • TS3989 I was transferring all my vacation pictures from iPhone to PC because icloud was limited on space.  Now all pictures are gone from phone and not on PC or icloud. Where could they be?

Can not locate any of my vacation pictures after trying to transfer from my phone to pc so I could have some printed.  All photos are missing as well as the contacts on my phone being removed.  Not sure what to do next.

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?

  • Half of my pictures are black after restoring iPhone on ios4!!

I am having difficulty with my photos. My iPhone was really slow after the update so I heard restoring it would help. Yes, it did make it faster but...half of my pictures are completely blank. I can still open them up and see the pictures (well sometimes). I had some pictures that I was proud of and I can't even open them!! Ios4 is frustrating!!!

So what should I do? Is there anything I CAN do? (I forgot that lol)

  • Imported pictures are black

I imported pictures into iPhoto and they are showing up as black rectangles. Yet when I doubleclick them to view them in editor the details of the pictures show up. Does anybody know why they show up as black rectangles, initially?? Are the smaller pictures the thumbnails? I don't want black thumbnails and would like to fix them so that they appear with picture details.

You will have to do it outside of the library so export the all out of the library as original files. Then download and unzip this Automator workflow application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile and drop all of the photos onto it to batch process them. Import after completed.
You can download the app from Toad's Cellar

  • Thumbnails are OK, but many pictures are black in slideshow

I have been using iPhoto8 for some time and have over 35,000 pictures on it (275GB on backed up external drives and in several independant libraries). Recently new as well as old photos show up black when I "expand" them (either in slideshow or for alterations"; previously they were OK. Some I can restore by right click on them and reverting to original; for others, the process is impossible (revert to original command is grayed out). In most cases this happens with slides I scanned with a Nikon SF-200 using Vue Scan software, but it is starting to happen with digital originals as well (alpha 900 in jpg mode). This is a serious nuissance as I publish books... What is happening and what can I do?

Rebuilding does not take up additional disk space. How much free space do you have on the boot drive? It's recommended that a minimum of 10 GB of free space be available for optimum performance.
What format were the photos scanned to?
Rebuilding does not affect any other libraries. For the rebuild launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Not all Pictures are getting sync

I have the New iPad and Windows 7 with the latest version of iTunes. I have a folders with many pictures in them. I am trying to sync these pictures to the iPAd. I select the folders I want and the picture start to sync but not all the picture copy over to the ipad I have cleared the itune photo cash folder. Please help I bought this so I could copy my pictures to it and it is not working right. Please help.

It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right-click context menu while saving an image.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
    * Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
    * Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
    * Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    * Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
    * Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
    * If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • Verfiy all pictures are in albums

I've recently imported all my pictures into IPhoto. I created folders and albums to organize them. My library says I have 1285 pictures. If I select all my folders/albums it says there are 1268. I understand I do have 17 pictures in my library that I failed to put into albums. Is there a simple way to check to see if a picture is in a album?
Looking back I know that Smart Albums and keywords would probably have been a better choice, but I do not want to redo it all.
    Thank you.

I haven't done this myself but others have reported success by defining one smart album - pics that are not in an album. I realize that it sounds goofy and you might need to experiment but supposedly it works.
