Add ability to sort playlists alphabetically or arrange them in whatever order the end user prefers to more easily go through the playlists.

  • [All Platforms][Discover] Playlists for the atmosphere

Atmosphere ( Atmos ) PlaylistsAnd I don't mean the gases around the planet. I mean the "pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or work of art" - so states Oxford. - Spotify is set-up for the best possible personal music expereience, and they've nailed it. The "Genres and Moods" section is a perfect  feature and is awesome for finding new music and artists while "Hanging Out and Relaxing", having a "Productive morning", or feeling "All Out 90's". Sometimes you'll stumble across a playlist that would be good to use with a group of people - but they are designed to put yourself in the mood or interact with what you are doing at that moment.- The system is built for headphones basically, personal computer, or a nice bluetooth speaker system ( Sound Sticks name drop ). Either the headphones or speaker system- the group is either just you or maybe one other person- possible two or three more. With Atmosphere playlists you would be able to select the situation you are in or creating. Examples below.  :Playing Cards ( this is where the Playlist cover would be important and fun to create - the cover art would have to depict exactly the "atmosphere" you are in at that moment ). My suggestion for the Album Art would be a bunch of friends sitting around a table playing Cards Against Humanity. We all know Cards, 6-10 friends sitting around a table drinking, having fun, laughing and just enjoying the moment. All the attention is on the game but music should be in the background- and yes you can browse for a playlist but this is the point of the idea. Instant, tested, and ready to go. The research and development on this playlist would be a lot of fun as well- "alright everyone, for the next 5 Friday nights we have to sit, play cards, and pick songs that fit the moment". First song = Perspective by Until the Ribbon Breaks. or Everlasting Light by the Black Keys. :Porch Party. Album art of a Screened in Porch with pong set-up ( if that is allowed- not sure. PC check ). Group of 2 on 2 playing, 4-5 sitting around a table chatting - maybe a grill outside with people cooking. Need roughly 100 songs to be played on random to suit the moment. This would be cool if you can narrow down the Atmosphere by selecting how many people are in attendance. A playlist for 10 people partying should be very different than a playlist for a party of 50 people.- Spotify does have the "Start Radio" feature, which is not marketed enough ( competition with Pandora ). And this feature is great, but you select a country singer with a awesome song and start the radio off that singer or the song, you will eventually get songs that do not fit the moment.  :Say at work, 4-5 different people working in one area or that could be everyone in the whole company- it is 4-5 different views of music. Each person could and most likely likes their own genre and songs. And yes there are "At Work" playlists, but you have to stumble across them going through the different genres and moods. Then you have to find a playlists that you think everyone will like, and hope that no embarassing songs come on. Three examples- but could be endless. I had 8tracks for a while ( still have it but have Spotify premium so naturally doesn't get opened anymore ). But you could select a different Mood and then a different Genre and it would produce playlists based off the two random selections- don't mean to copy that process, that is more of the music genome type deal. But be able to select group size, maybe group age (average), and atmoshere and playlist will generate from those selections. Just a thought, but taken the thinking out of the selection will make it popular. Possible Features:Group Bluetooth for same playlists- if you happen to have more than one set of blue-tooth headphones in the room. Silent Disco's are a perfect example.Hold Music Playlist - being on hold is an atmosphere, not typically a pleasant one but one none the less. Each business that puts people on hold on a constant basis- good music for those people ( and safe foreveryone, no swears are obscene lyrics ) would be awesome. I think it would be cool- seeing if it is a shared idea. I have Spotify on everyday, and since the only one with premium at my current job ( trying to recruit )- my Spotify gets played at work. I saw Spotify Corporate was also an idea, as it should be- I will go back and Kudo's that idea. But this idea could work for that feature as well- or the basis of it.

  • [All Platforms][Discover] Playlist discovery

One simple but pretty cool discovery feature I would like to see is if you could go to a artist and see which popular playlists that artist belonged to. Like an tab for Appears on Playlists or something. It would be a great way of discovering new user playlists

    This would be great !

  • [All Platforms][Playlists] Please restore View as Album List feature

View as Album List was a great feature. Based on comments I have seen on other forums, I am not the only one who thinks so. Please restore this feature. Reasons:1) Images are much easier to see than text. I have reached the age of reading glasses. Before this feature was removed, I could easily find songs / albums in playlists. Now I have to find my glasses beforehand! 2) Images are much more compelling and attractive than text. A picture tells a thousand words etc. The whole look and feel of Spotify is enhanced through the use of album images. Removing them seems like going against good user experience practice. 3) Nostalgia. Although I love Spotify and I firmly believe that subscription is the future of music, I still feel some nostalgia for "possessing" a collection of albums. Displaying album covers reinforces the feeling of having a collection of albums in a playlist. Note that all three arguments apply equally to desktop and iPad versions of Spotify. November 2013: Response to the comments from Spotify...- There is no need for a cmd+G control. All playlists should always display the album cover.- The Collections product was announced almost a year ago but there is no sign of it.- A Collections product that simply displays the thousands of albums that I have ever listened to is not a viable solution in my opinion. I would need multiple collections (i.e.. playlists). May-2014I have created a new idea http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Display-Album-Cover-on-Your-Music-Songs/idi-p/791029 requesting cover art on your music (and playlists). Please give it your kudos. July 2015I note that Apple Music displays album art on playlists on all platforms.

Again - We shouldn't have to vote about stuff like this. Of course there should be an album list. And it should also be obvious how to enable it, not just with a keyboard command or obscure menu option. Also - please consider an album view in the mobile apps as well. I have a lot of playlists with just albums, and they are a pain in the ass to use on the Iphone / Ipad.

  • [All Platforms][Playlists] Play count and play history for songs to create personal charts

Hi guys, I switched from iTunes to Spotify about a year ago and I really do like the service. Lately I checked out Apple Music and in comparison Spotify still kicks ass. However, it was incredible to have access to all of my old iTunes playlists again. Why? Because I created playlists with my personal charts, meaning intelligent playlists which sort songs by play count. I would love to see this feature in Spotify. Additionally you could also track when a song has been played, so I could create a playlist which lists my favorite songs from a specific time frame.  Best wishesDominik

Sup man! I made the switch from iTunes about 3 years ago, but I have never gone back. Especially since I have a $5 / mo deal for Spotify premium for students, so premium is sick to use on the computer and transfer music painlessly to your electronic device. Cool stuff. Also, the algorithms that Spotify employs have unique shuffling programs implemented internally. They get numerous complaints about similar songs/artists playing in close sequence to one another. When this would happen (the original random number generator would obviously play the same artist within 3-4 songs because of pure chance and logistics), so they implemented a different algorithm as a fix. The new algorithm implemented a fix for this complaint (which was considered to be along the lines of the gambler’s fallacy theory… but that’s another long explanations) so that people wouldn’t complain as much. This switch happened within the past year, so people are just starting to notice how the shuffle feature has “improved”. This whole thing brings on the discussion of “what truly is random?” when it comes to the world of random number generators and the gambler’s fallacy. If you want to check out my Spotify playlists, my acct is: chrisheishman and my most popular playlist actually is “acoustic indie mix” with about 400+ songs and 200+ followers. You should check it out! Cheers & good luck with your music journey! Chris

  • "All of the Playlists Selected for Updating No Longer Exist"

My family has 2 ipod shuffles. After purchasing a Nano recently, I inserted the cd that came with it. Apparently the existing iTunes software was removed and reinstalled. At any rate, the library still shows all the original songs, but when the Nano is plugged in, iTunes immediately gives a prompt stating "Songs on the iPod *** cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." The library is there, the playlists that were there are there, and I can play the songs on my cpu. Is there anything I can do besides completely uninstalling everything and starting over?

This user tip should help you sort out your missing playlist problem: Hudgie - iPod cannot sync because one or more playlists are missing

  • "Songs on the iPod "____" cannot be updated because all of the playlists...

"Songs on the iPod "Harold Kim's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
Im not sure what this means or how to fix it. any sort of advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.
Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".

  • [Playlists] Sorting my playlists (not sorting songs, artists, etc within playlists)

When I first got my Spotify account I could created a playlist and they were automatically listed (sorted) alphabetically. It worked great for me. All of my playlists I denoted iWorkout, iFocus, iChill, iWakeup, etc. Then followed up with the genre of music last, for example... iWorkout - Rap, iWorkout - Rock, etc. If I was working out all of my workout lists were grouped. If I needing to focus, to chill, to wakeup! I could easily find what I wanted. At some point an update came through and all of my playlists are listed by creation date?? I guess?? Sucks monkey balls. Now my playlists are all over the place and the ones that I use the most I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to find, why? Because I created them first... and we can't even sort ascending or descending by creation date. It's just dumb - my opinion. It's been months... I assumed others would complain for me, but it's not returned or been enhanced. So, here's my complaint.  Please return the sorting to alphabetical or give us the option to sort them as we prefer, by date created, by alphabet, by last accessed, or whatever others may be asking for. Thanks-so-much

  • Is there any way to get a Smart PlayList to sort automatically

I have a smart playlist that consists of Podcasts by certain Authors. I'd like to have it sorted by release date, so I listen to them in order, oldest first. Is there any way to get the smart playlist to sort that way automatically? Right now i can't really figure out how it is sorted, it seems somewhat random to me.
    Thank you. Tom
      Windows XP

yes, and it is actually quite easy. just make a smart playlist that is like this:
    First Field: Podcast is true
Second Field: Name Contains (something present in the names of all of the podcasts you want)
There will be a check box next to "Limit to...". check the box, and set the number absurdly high, and then change "selected by random" to selected by most recently added. create the playlist. after it is created, right click on the name, date, time, album, genre... bar, and select "Date Modified" once it is there, click on it and it will allow you to arrange them either ascending, or descending. that should do it.

  • Error message iPod cannot update b/c all of the playlists no longer exist

Hello. I have been getting this error message. "Songs on the iPod "MAR(the name of my iPod)" cannot update because all of the playlists selecting for updating no longer exist." And my playlists are still on the left side in my iTunes. They do exist. I have a feeling ths might have to do with the fact that on vacation the person I was visiting gave me a gift of putting all of his music that would fit into the external hard drive part of my iPod, and for the past week or so I have been putting that music onto my 40 GB portable hard drive at home. I suspect I took a vital folder out of my iPod by accident. Right now I have the folder iPod_control if I open my iPod up in My Computer. Am I missing something? Right now my iPod is empty because iTunes made a composite playlist last week and I deleted it thinking I could get my real playlists back. Can you help me, or reccomend a site/someone who can? Thank you.
    PC   Windows XP

    hiya!
And my playlists are still on the left side in my iTunes. They do exist.
let's just doublecheck this. folks get this message if they have "automatically update selected playlists only" selected in their itunes "ipod" preferences tab. so bring up that tab ("edit > preferences", click "ipod" while the ipod is showing up in the source list), and do a playlist by playlist crosscheck of the playlists selected in that tab, and the playlists showing up in the itunes sourcelist.
is there any playlist selected in the preferences tab that isn't showing up in the sourcelist?
    love, b

  • Ipod consolidated all of my playlists into one

While updating Ipod consolidated all of my playlists into one. And I thought if I got rid of the super playlist it would have to go back to the regular system. The library and all the other playlists are still intact but now it says, "Ipod cannot update becasue there are no songs in the playlist." But there are songs there and there are songs in the library as well. What's wrong? What happened? What did I do wrong?

    See this user tip.
The iPod cannot be updated because one or more playlists no longer exist.
For versions of iTunes from 7 onwards, the option to "update selected playlists" is now under the "music" tab in the summary screen.

  • "All of the playlists for updating no longer exist"???!!

I created a few new playlists and deleted an old one in iTunes, and then when I plugged in my mini to update I get the message:
Songs on the iPod “Kellee's iPod” cannot be updated because all of the playlists for updating no longer exist"
There are no songs in my mini after this msg. I reset it, tried to update again, but got the same msg. Please help!!

    Hi Kellee!
Why do people delete playlists?? Seems like you have the same problem someone I tried to help has. She got the exact same error message when she deleted a playlist. If I were you I would have shifted some songs around, changed the name of the playlist to something else but NOT deleted the playlist. I don't think you can get the same playlist back once you delete it. Question is why is your iPod not recognizing your new playlists and it's requesting to update the playlist you already deleted?? I'm afraid I can't help you but maybe someone else can. I just wanted to say this.

  • "Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists..."

I recently bought a 1GB iPod Nano from a dude on craigslist and I updated it once, but when I try to update it now a message comes up that reads:
"Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
Also, when I updated it yesterday, it said that the iPod didn't have room for all of the songs on my iTunes...but I only have like 75 regular-length songs on there and the 1GB is supposed to hold 240. Anyone know what's up with that?
After it informed me of this last thing, it made me a playlist of a "selection" of songs from the iTunes and updated it with those.
I deleted that playlist today...may that be related to my first question?
All of this doesn't make sense. Can anyone shed a little light on the subject?
    Thanks

I had this problem with my 4GB iPod nano and I tried everything that you said to try. I did accidentally delete the iPod Selection playlist and I tried to make a new smart playlist. When I did this I got an error message that said "The smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty of conflict with one another. This will result in never matching any item. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?" I tried to upload an old library onto my iTunes and it was successful, however, my iPod would still not sync. Do you know what i can do to fix this?
    thank you.
