All playlists replaced w/ "iPod Selection" (iTunes exceeds iPod capacity)

After downloading several CD's into my iTunes, the capacity of my iPod was exceeded. Consequently, all my playlists have been erased (on the iPod) and replaced with "FVGomez iPod Selection". What criteria is used to select the songs in that new playlist? Most recent? Highest rated? Also, how can I restore my playlists?

*how can I restore my playlists?*
If the playlists contain too much for your iPod to hold you'll have to choose which ones go on unless you want to delete some of the content from iTunes. Connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlists you want on the iPod from the selection: Syncing Music to iPod
You could also set the iPod to manual update and just drag whatever songs and playlists you want to have on the iPod: Managing content manually on iPod

  • All playlists missing from iPod Touch?

Hi there. In need of help with a bit of a frustrating issue.
Currently on my iPod Touch, all of my playlists are missing. They're available on my iTunes and on my iPod nano, but not on my iPod touch. This happened before and I reset my iPod which temporarily fixed the issue but during my last sync it went missing again. Everything is up to date and my sync settings are set to sync everything.
    Help?

Are these playlists configured to sync to your device from under its Music configuration tab in iTunes?  To access this tab, plug your iPod and select it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  You should be under the Summary tab when you look to the right in the main window.  Locate the Music tab along the top and select it.
If you make any changes from under this tab, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to sync the updated changes to your device.

  • HT4436 can i use icloud with my pc if all the files on my pc significantly exceed the capacity of my ipad and iphone?

I want to back up my PC files to icloud but all by files are significantly more than  the capacity of my ipad and iphone. Can I still back them up to icloud?

iCloud will not backup your PC, only your IOS devices will be backed up, so it doesn't matter how much is on your PC.
    Use Windows Backup.

  • ITunes not syncing selected playlists, choosing songs from all playlists

I have some smaller iPods that I use on random occasions. When I sync them, I choose the following options:
    Sync Music:
    Selected Playlists, artists, genres
    Music Videos - Not Checked
Automatically fill free space with songs - Checked
I have two playlists from which I wish a selection to be made, which exceeds the size of the iPod (they were designed for larger devices synced with this machine). When I attempt to Sync, I get a message saying that the iPod is too small, and would I like iTunes to automatically choose songs to sync. If I click no, the sync is canceled. If I click yes to have a subset of my two playlists automatically choosen, the ipod will sync, but then iTunes clears all of my selected playlists and starts syncing songs from all playlists.
This seems like a bug in iTunes to me, as it is not performing the requested options. Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to get it fixed? Or to get a bug report sent in to Apple? I have been going all over the place on their support page, and since this isn't an issue with the iPod, but with iTunes, I haven't been able to find a support avenue.

iTunes not syncing selected playlists, choosing songs from all playlists
You have it selected to *sync selected playlists* and those playlists are not syncing to the iPod?
however this seems to be very counter-intuitive behavior for iTunes
It can be kind of confusing.
I suggest it's not a bug in that it is acting as it's supposed to.
The option (Fill free space) could be made clearer. Perhaps if they added "with songs at random from the entire library" or somehow added an option to select what the free space will be filled with.)
    1) The fact that iTunes it is not obeying the selected options on the screen
    Not supposed to do that.
If the playlists all fit and there is free space, what would iTunes use to fill the free space if it only used selected items?
    2) iTunes is allowing users construct an unhonorable set of choices out of four options. If "Selected playlists, artists and genres" is not compatible with "Automatically fill free space," then that option should be grayed out.
    It is compatible.
If there is free space after your selections are added, what should iTunes use to fill the free space? It shouldn't fill the free space with stuff already on the iPod.

  • Why are all playlists deleted when closing itunes ver 11

Since installing the latest update for iTunes, version 11, all playlist delete when I close iTunes.  I have recreated my playlists six times and am now working on number 7.  What's wrong?  Can I save the playlists to an external drive and simply copy them back when this happens?

If you have AppleCare on your iPhone then call Apple, it's baically the only way you will get help on that front. Tell them about the issues. After a little while of trouble shooting they should pass you to a senior technician.
What trouble shooting have you done?
If you haven't done so already, Apple will request you to do it while they have you on the phone. Also, do not restore from a backup, set it up as a new device.

  • HT1451 Can I move the playlists on my Ipod to Itunes on my new computer (which has all my music, but not my playlists)?

My old computer died and I bought a new one and installed Itunes.  I reloaded all my old music, which I had on a backup disk.  Itunes recognizes my music.  I would like to move the existing playlists from my Ipod to Itunes.  Is this possible?  If so, how do I do it?

If you connect your ipod to the itunes. If it tells you you need to erase then just cancel that.
Click on your iPod in the left hand sidebar
    Ctrl S to show sidebar
Select ipod and expand the selection by clicking onthe black arrow
Right mouse click on the iPod Playlist and select export
Then when you are done Use File > Library > Import Playlist (Ctrl + B to show top menu in windows)
This should put your playlists in iTunes which if the songs are there should work fine

  • My iTunes just started like I've never used it before clearing all 7000 songs and playlists. My ipod said it's synced to a different iTunes?? HELP!!

Someone please help!! I just started my computer and opened iTunes and it looks like a brand new iTunes that's never been used before. All of my 7000 songs and all playlists are gone. When I tried to sync my iPod it says it's synced to a different iTunes. What do I do??

I have a similar problem - transferred from an older iPad to a newer one.
Once over the hurdle of the backup being encrypted with a password that was never set, the new iPad thinks it is synced with a library on another computer that will not be up to date (it was an old backup made on the original device).
    Some of the backup information has not fully restored the new iPad to the same state as the old one - if I connect and sync to the computer with the older library, will this;
    a) erase any data - i.e. should I not automatically sync?
    b) will it recover the missing data - or is it 'lost'?
    c) will it always require synching to this library - I intend for the device to be synched with another PC because it is faster and more convenient - this is the one where the backup and restore has been carried out rather than waiting for an iCloud sync.
The old iPad has already been reset - will this process have to be completed from scratch again? i.e. is there a way of divorcing the old iPad from it's old library then backing up and getting a full transfer.

    Hi, InsaneCharlie.
Thanks for the question.  I see you have uninstalled iTunes and want this program back.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes if present and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.  If none of your data was modified in the iTunes media folder, then your data should be present upon installation.

  • Can I have iTunes show all my playlists?  Two iPods

I have two ipods.  One has less space than the other.  I sync music manually in iTunes.  When I open iTunes should'nt I see all playlists no matter if I set them up on Ipod #1 vs #2?
    Does that make sense?
So I create a playlist on ipod #1, and then I attach the smaller iPod and want to addt the same playlist without having to search and pick all the specific songs again.
    Thanks!

    Nope, not at this time.

  • How to i transfer playlists from my iPod to iTunes? They are all on my iPhone but not on iTunes how do i get them on there?

How to i transfer playlists from my iPhone to iTunes? They are all on my iPhone but not on iTunes how do i get them on there?

iTunes will only transfer purchases back to your computer using the iTunes > File > Transfer purchases from XXX's iPhone.  It will not transfer playlists or non-purchased songs.
Here is an application that will transfer playlists and non-purchases (from iTunes) songs.  There is a free demo limited to 1,000 songs or you can buy the full featured version for $18.99.  http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

  • HT1535 so I've done all that and I still can't add a playlist I've created in iTunes to the iPod...?

I've followed the instructions to tell the iPod that I want to manage music and video manually, but I still can't add a playlist I've created in iTunes to the iPod...

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • I just lost all songs on my Ipod, but my Itunes still has everything

I plugged my Ipod into the computer today, usual as always, just to import over a few new CD's, but then I get this pop-up.
"Songs on the iPod "Scott's iPod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
Confused, I checked my music on my iPod, and now...There is nothing there!
No Songs, No Playlists, No CDS, nothing.
Yet...everything is still in my iTunes, most of which was on my Ipod a few minutes ago
What the heck happened and how do I fix this?

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 1800MB for a 2G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "1800" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.
