All slide transitions 'lost' at conference presentation

This is a really weird one. I spent ages preparing my Keynote presentation for a big conference. I triple checked of course and all was great, UNTIL I connected my macbook pro to the projector set-up at the podium.
The tech guy asked me to adjust the screen size in 'settings' which I did,
BUT then when I went back into the presentation, EVERY transition was gone and replaced with 'wipe' at 2 or 3 seconds plus, some of the colours in graphic images, eg my logo had changed from green to purple.
Can anyone explain this, and more important, what do I need to do to 'lock' or secure my specific transitions, so that it doesn't happen again.
thanks if you can help
Philip

As you say, this is weird; it has never happened to me, probably never before to you, either, and I can't recall ever hearing about it from anyone. My scenario, when I use my own Mac to present (which I always insist upon, and you have done), is simply plug into beamer, then "Detect Displays". When that has happened and I run the KN presentation, everything on the screen looks as it should, and it would never have occurred to me to adjust the screen size, as you were asked to do. And, of course, the presentation worked just as I'd constructed it, including transitions and animations (except when I carelessly clicked when I should have waited - but that's my fault, and a different kind of problem). And mostly, my presentation was never changed, as you describe, and I've never even thought of "locking" it to prevent such a change, and I can't believe it should be necessary. I suspect mine is the usual scenario.
Perhaps you can give some more detail. Like you, I have a 13" MBP. My current (and regular) screen resolution is 1280x800; what's yours? I don't have to change this for presentations. (When I was less experienced, I tried to, or thought it was necessary, but only succeeded in lousing things up, albeit only temporarily.)
In my "Slideshow Preferences", I've activated "Scale slides up to fit display", and not activated the two "Reduce Cube/Flip transitions to avoid clipping". I wonder what your original transitions were.
Re the color problem. I wonder if this might be a color calibration issue. I've never altered the calibration, because when I fooled with this setting, things never got better, only worse.
Most disturbing, of course, is that, if I understand you correctly, your transitions didn't change only for the presentation (disturbing enough), but have remained changed, i.e., even when you run it on your Mac, without projection. First: am I right, is this really so? If so, something erroneously got saved, or perhaps a pref file corrupted.
Get back here with more detail, including any other problems or "weirdness" you've been having.

  • Keynote not showing all slides of a PPT presentation

    Hi,
My course slides are all provided in .ppt format but I'm obviously on a mac and use keynote to view them. Generally, the slides convert fine and all information is there. However, of the 51 slides in the last presentation, keynote only shows 21. All slides open fine in .ppt on a PC. Any Ideas?
I've uploaded the presentation here: https://files.me.com/maxdfeldman/ydjozh
    -max

Just wondering if you found a solution to your problem. I am going through the same exact thing and my presentation is tomorrow!!

  • How-To: Place same guides across all slides of the presentation?

    Hi,
I want to set some guides for element positioning thru out the presentation. But it seems that Keynotes keeps the guides per slide. Is there a way to establish guides which will be visible across all slides of the presentation?
    Regards.

You can add guides to your master slides, then go to the View menu and select Guides > Show Master Guides in Keynote 6.0.
In Keynote '09 there isn't a Show Master Guides but as you move an object in your slide, the guide from the master slide will appear.

  • Adding music to Keynote 6.5, over multi-slide transition.

I have created a six slide dissolve in Keynote 6.5. The dissolve takes about 18 seconds complete. I would like to have some subtle music play over the transition. I know I can have music play in just one slide or over he entire presentation. But I just need the music to start on slide 10 (automatic dissolve) and end on slide 16. Is it possible? Thanks!

The work around is to place the sound file and all the images associated with the music, on a single slide, and use builds to create the animation.

  • Keynote Import slide transition timers

I was told to post here Re: Keynote Import slide transition timers
Can the transition times for a presentation can be inserted with automator  or can it be imported from a CSV sort of file.
The way I did this in Powerpoint was I created a static array with all slides timer I wanted, later looped through each slide and set the timer. can similar thing can be done in Keynote with applescript
Re: Keynote Import slide transition timers
    I also posted here, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27495413/applescript-to-set-transition-timers
I got one example but that gives me errors.
    Thanks for your help

Here is the solution for people who care, i figured out a way with some help from stackexchange forum
    tell application "Keynote"
set ss to slides of document 1
set c to count of ss
        set timerlist to {5, 4, 3, 9, 6}
        set n to 1
        repeat until n > c
set timer to item n of timerlist
            set transition properties of item n of ss to {transition delay:timer, automatic transition:true, transition effect:no transition effect, transition duration:0.5}
            set n to n + 1
        end repeat
    end tell

  • Automatic slide transition timing

I'm putting together a presentation with multiple actions on each slide. The actions are all timed and I want each slide to be displayed for exactly 30 seconds before transition to the next slide.
But I can't figure out how to set this up. Is the automatic slide transition delay timed from the when the slide appears or when the last action finishes? I tried working it out both ways and it doesn't make sense.
    e.g
I have a slide where a picture appears after 20 seconds. I then set the auto slide transition to 10 seconds. I expected the slide to change at 30s but it actually does it nearer 40s?
    What's going on?
    Thanks

I tried a new experiment with a fresh, new Keynote presentation. Plain white background. Three words that animate, each On Click. Move In, Bottom to Top. .2 second speed. Dragged my WAV narration file to the slide. Recorded the presentation, animating each word manually at the appropriate point in the narration. Playing back the recording in Keynote looks and sounds as intended. Exported to QuickTime. Narration starts, first animation doesn't appear in time. As soon as first animation appears, audio cuts off completely. Other two animations appear, with no audio.
I even tried a different font this time (a standard OS X font). This can't be a problem with my presentation file.
Something is wrong with the QuickTime exporting function. I'd love to know if anyone has had success (visuals and audio in sync) exporting to QuickTime after importing your narration (or sounds) by dropping an audio file on the slide.

  • Slide Transitions

I would like to set up my presentation so that there are no slide transitions between slides.  I don't want any slides fading in or fading out.  I thought this could be done by going into the General Properties and setting Transition to No Transition.  I've done that for all of them, but I am still getting some fading in and out.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks.
    Terri

    Hi Terri
Slides themselves typically don't have transitions unless you specifically choose to add them.
Odds are the objects you have on the slides have the transitions applied. Normally objects (Buttons, Captions, Etc) have a Fade in and Fade Out transition. So you will need to explore changing the transitions for the objects.

  • Auto slide transition after build out?

I'm trying to make several items on the page cleanly dissolve out and then have the slide transition automatically to the next slide. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this.
I can't set the automatic transition to a time because this presentation is going to an exec who will be talking and fielding questions and there's no way to anticipate how long the slide will need to be up.
It seems like the build out needs something like a callback function where it can execute something on build complete. Any way to do this? (Or at least request it as a feature in iWork '11?)

To make sure I understand you correctly, you want to have the text and/or images on the screen and then after all the questions, have the exec click which will fade out the text/images and then a slide transition. Is that correct?
If so, what you have to do is make sure the build out is set to happen on click and set the transition to Automatically. The transition will not happen until the last build out is complete.

  • Slide transition animation and image in the slide master

    Hi,
I placed an image in one of the slide masters, because I want that image static in the slide background. But when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too. Should I do something else in the slide master so the image I placed is not affected by the slide transition?
Macbook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite and Keynote 6.5
    Regards.

There is no such thing as an object transition, objects are animated using Builds or Actions:   Inspector > Animate
I'm referring to "Object Effects" in the Transitions pull down (Object Push, Object Revolve, Object Flip, etc). So yes, technically there is an Object (transition) effect where objects transition between slides.
Backgrounds do not animate when using Builds or Actions.
True. However, if you use the last version of Keynote (before 6.5 and the Yosemite update) and place an image on the master slide it will not animate when applying many of the Object Effects.
When an action or or Build is applied to an objet, the slide or the background does not animate, only the object animates.
Same point as I made above.
No EnzoFT said,  "when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too."
EnzoFT was using a slide transition therefore any object on a slide will be included in the effect.
If you try what I said above in the previous version of Keynote, it will not animate. However, I found out how to make an image on the master slide NOT animate in Keynote 6.5 (I made a comment earlier in the thread about this). Open the master slide, select the Slide Layout, change the background to Image Fill, and the image won’t animate from one slide to the next when you apply an Object Effects transition to a slide.
That is a very narrow minded personal opinion.
Selecting a transition, Build or Action should be based on how it enhances the presentation and what you want to animate; the slide, the object or both.
Narrow minded personal opinion?!? Do you really need to go there? I was simply making an observation.
    Use Builds or Actions.
There has been no change;  Transitions affect the whole slide, Builds and Actions affect objects on a slide.
If you try what I mentioned above there has been a change. Thanks for offering advice, but doing a little research in the future before replying to issues will help with providing more accurate information.

    Hi Everyone,
I lost my KN presentation that i spent a day with my boss to finish it. I lost it by mistakenly shutting down my Macbook pro. Can anyone please tell me how to recover the files back as i'm really2 in trouble and my job depends on it...
hmmm...how i hate myself for being such a careless person...
    PLEASE HELP ME...
    Thank you in advance.
    Keynotes '09
    Version 5.1.1 (1034)

How exactly did you shut down your laptop? Not a hard restart (holding down the power button), I hope... if that's the case, then it is extremely unlikely the file is still intact on your computer. If it is, it would be an image on your RAM, and it is time-and-resource-intensive to recover it if it is even there. RAM memory is disposable and always being written over. Sorry dude...
If it wasn't a hard restart, Keynote should have made a backup, unless you 'Force Close'd it.
It really all depends on how your mac was shut down.

  • How to apply animations to ALL slides in Powerpoint 2011 for Mac

Hi - apologies for category of this posting as it applies to software, not the MBP exclusively. Could not find better location...?
I have powerpoint presentations that are from Powerpoint for Mac 2000 or something - recently upgraded to 2011, but my animations seem to have disappeared. Is there a way to apply animations to ALL slides in a presentation rather than doing each slide individually? I've searched online but have not found instructions that work for PPT2011 for Mac...
    Thank you!

Interesting: I tried switching to a workspace where it's docked by default (Book), and it was properly docked (so it's definitely possible on my version/OS). I dragged it out so it started floating, and then couldn't put it back. (while docked, it does fix the F3 bug as expected)
Also, one funny thing that is happening is, about a quarter of the time I drag it into a place where I'd expect it to dock, the cursor turns into the Mac crashing beachball until I move it away again.
I guess this probably a sign something's corrupted. Will try deleting the preferences file when I've got some free time to set things back up again.
Another sign that something is probably corrupted: Ticking and unticking "Enable floating document window docking" makes no difference to anything. Ticked or unticked, I can still dock and undock all windows except the Tools palette.
    Thanks

  • Changing fonts in all slides, Changing fonts in all slides

Hello, I have 80 slides I'd like to change the font in all slides to a simpler font. I'm using chalkduster font on iPad, how can I change it? Can I make 1 change or must I go through every slide?

Did you solve this font issue with Keynote?  I just finished a huge presentation, uploaded it to the cloud and now realize the font I used on my iMac is NOT on keynote...go figure! So, now all the capitalization is screwy and inconsistent.  don't want to recreate all fonts box by box.

  • How to remove all slide notes in a project at once

    Hi All,
I've some problem on removing slide note. I recently know how to remove slide note "one by one" method on captivate 8 but if I want to remove all slide notes at once, How can I do?
    Anybody know about this?

    Hi there,
At present there is no option present in Captivate to delete the all slide notes at once. Please use the below link and file feature request for the same so that we can consider it for the future releases.

  • How to make object appear in all slides?

I'd like to place a logo in the top right of a slide and have it appear in all slides.  If I adjust the logo in one slide, it will adjust the same in all slides.
Any ideas how to accomplish that?

Place the logo on the master slide being used in the presentation:   View > Show Masters Sides
