All software up to date, but telling me I cannot open files edited in 'newer version' help!

I'm a Graphic design student, so work between my Mac at home and one in Class. I've now gone to open files last edited in class, and am receiving an error message to say this was saved with a newer version (CC 10.1), however my Creative Cloud at home has no pending updates- how can I fix this? Your help would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Whitneyd
Here is a helpful link that explains how to save back to earlier versions of the file
Can You Open/Use/Export/Save Adobe CC Files on CS6 – and Back? | ProDesignTools
For example: If you are using Indesign, you can save your file as .IDML files.
Let us know if you have any questions
Thanks
