WE NEED A REAL BUG FIXIN UPDATE SOON BLOODS! HELLO FROM HOLLAND

Hi Ben,
Another sleep issue and adding to your post... My MacBook Pro (2.7ghz early 2011)
Leaving apps open and closing the "lid" and then going to bed... several times thru out the night my MacBook will start to wake up.  The optical drive spins up (DVD is in the drive), the hard drive fires up, I think i can see the screen glow ("lid" is still closed).   Then it sets itself back to sleep (must detect the closed lid).
Did not do this with Mavericks or other earlier OSs.
I have not begun to try to figure this out... today is the day!  lol.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 UI Lag after installing Yosemite

    Hey everyone,
Ok so my Issue here, and I think I'm not the only one but my MacBook pro retina late 2013 (8GB ram, 256gb SSD) has been experiencing numerous issues after installing Yosemite. For example, the UI lag is at times horrible; after opening several apps, and especially after having a pdf or two open in preview everything becomes so sluggish. the animation of switching to mission control is painstakingly slow, and opening new tabs in safari takes 2 or 3 seconds. I've done a clean install of yosemite but nothing seems to help, what should I do; just revert back to mavericks and cross my finger for a future update?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks so much !

i am in the same situation as you, late 2013 retina MacBook Pro 15 inch upgraded to yosemite and then clean installed yosemite b/c of UI lag after opening several apps at once... I found that yosemite drained my battery life too, on mavericks i was getting 5-8 hrs of battery life, on yosemite i was getting like 2-3 hrs most.
After exhausting every option out there (apple store genius bar help, apple repair, etc), I came to the consensus that my macbook had no hardware problems at all, it's basically a software problem on apple's end.  and until they update yosemite with a specific fix for the UI lag and the battery consumption problems, i am not going back to yosmemite.
what i did was clean installed back to mavericks... this solved every one of my problems, NO LAG, NO BATTERY ISSUES, back to buttery smooth performance, of course without the new UI however... but i can live without new design
this experience tells me several things: 1. the new apple under the leadership of cook is slowly but surely sacrificing quality of software for unnecessary updates(sales) 2. mac hardware is still good but who knows for how much longer

  • Installed Yosemite update on MacBook Pro retina late 2013 will not boot flashing folder with ?

I just Installed Yosemite update on MacBook Pro retina late 2013 will not boot flashing folder with ?

dunno, Lynn--maybe Etrecheck. trying running disk utility to verify the status of your hard drive. That may give you a basic idea. Perhaps tech tool pro.  As for it running hot, I can't say for sure. try shutting it down and using a vacuum clearner +crevice tool around the back of it.  It's been my experience that hard drives usually fail without a lot of warning, luckily you have a backup. Afterwards you can say "Yup, that went bad".  I've done a little research and found out that your MacBook Pro doesn't come with a conventional hard drive as such, but an SSD (solid state device) . It's upgradeable (up to 1 TB ) but not cheaply
go here for more info (OWC) :http://eshop.macsales.com. For right now, I'd recommend resetting the SMC/PMU, maybe zapping the pram . to do that, reboot, hold down Apple+Option, P+R keys while rebooting. Hold down for 3 chimes, let go and let it boot. as for the SMC thing....
I'm assuming your battery isn't removeable-shut down computer, plug in MagSafe cable . On built in keyboard, on left side, press Shift-Control-Option and power button at the same time.  release all the keys and the power button. press power button again to turn on computer
    that is all

  • USB microphone not recognized by mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp.  The device is not recognized by MacOS.  Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone.  Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack.  I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS.  15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
    Any suggestions?

Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support.  Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices
    any other thing to try?

  • MST Support for MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 - DisplayPort 1.2 - Will it ever happen? (with sources)

So back in October, I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr), fully loaded with top of the line specs.  I was soooo excited to have Thunderbolt 2 tech which Intel AND Apple describes as having DisplayPort 1.2a compatibility - which up to this point is unfortunately NOT the case.  The point of the information/questions and requests in this article is to engage a conversation about the issues of not having MST support after Apple falsely mislead their consumers to think otherwise - especially when it is clear the MBPr is capable.  Please read on...
Apple advertises that the Thunderbolt 2 ports on BOTH the MBPr and the new Mac Pro (NMP) will have 4K Display support with the famed 20gb/sec Ports (DisplayPort 1.2 only requires a little above 17gb/sec).  Now that the 10.9.1 update has been released, we have failed to see MST or Multi-Stream Transport enabled on the MBPr Late 2013.  Now, as for the New Mac Pro- it DOES have MST enabled in 10.9.1 with the AMD GPUs.  For all of you out there that's questioning what this means, short answer is basically the Mac Pro will be able to power a 4K Monitor at 60Hz through the Thunderbolt 2 Port but the New MBPr is stuck with only HDMI 1.4 support which tops out at 4K 30Hz. 30Hz is unacceptable for anything but movies or a photo slideshow.  At 30Hz the cursor will jump across the screen, eliminating any of the benefits of 4K.
    BUT it gets worse...
Apple can be seen advertising that the new MBPr 15" model can power a 4K monitor THROUGH the Thunderbolt 2 Port here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt - This article quotes the following:
"Now with Thunderbolt 2 built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect the latest 4K desktop displays and get double the bandwidth for your peripherals. And the two generations of Thunderbolt technology are compatible with each other."
Does this not let the consumer assume that the newest MBPr will be able to drive a 4K display through the Thunderbolt 2 Port?  I would say yes it does, but at the time I wrote this, the TB2 Ports can't power a 4K display because, as previously stated, MST is disabled in Mavericks for the 15" MBPr Late 2013.
NOW, later on Apple posted the following article on 4K support here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008
4K support on the MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013)
MacBook Pro supports 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates with the built-in HDMI port:
    3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
In the article above the New Mac Pro is listed as having support for a 4K Display with the Thunderbolt 2 Port (or MST DisplayPort 1.2a Technology) at 60Hz with no problem.  This leads myself and many others to believe that MST will NEVER be enabled on the newest MacBook Pro Retina with Nvidia GPUs. Yes, 4K IS supported but ONLY through the HDMI 1.4 port, which has the limitation of only 30hz.  This two-faced advertising is extremely upsetting to a LOT of people, including myself.
Interestingly enough, THIS IS NOT a hardware issue.  If one ventures into Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp and connects a 4K Display via the Thunderbolt 2 (or through DP1.2) Port, the Display registers at 60Hz, thus proving that the Thundberbolt 2 Hub Controller is completely capable of MST DisplayPort functionality.  Clearly this a driver issue with Apple, Nvidia or Intel or any combination.  What Apple has done here is forcing any professional that desires stable and clear 4K technology through their MacBook Pro Retina to do so only using Windows 8.1 on their own machines!  Definitely an oxymoron if you ask me...
Later on when the Mac Pro was ready for ordering, Apple placed the Sharp PN-K321 as a compatible option for a 4K Display.  On the Store page featuring the (over three thousand dollar) Sharp 4K display, located here http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD971LL/A/sharp-32-pn-k321-4k-ultra-hd-led-mon itor?fnode=53 Apple states the following:
"Note that 4K DisplayPort operation is only compatible with the new Mac Pro (Late 2013)."
All of that being said, and I'm terribly sorry for my wordy ranting...
This brings me to a final two requests to ANYONE reading this post:
    a) Has anyone working with the new 10.9.2 Beta Update seen evidence that DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities will be enabled for the new MacBook Pro Retina (Nvidia 750M) with the promised "Graphics Driver Updates" within the next Mavericks update?
    and
    b) To others that purchased or were/are thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro Retina with TB2 Ports: If you are just as upset as me about this crushing blow to consumers that just purchased a $3,000 laptop that were promised something that wasn't delivered - I urge you please, write to Apple and let them know they are making a mistake.  You can do this though the support page or through http://www.apple.com/feedback
Thank you for your precious time, and if anyone has anything to contribute to this issue, please jump in....

    GOOD NEWS!
The Mavericks 10.9.3 update adds official support for Thunderbolt 2, 4K!
I'm not sure if you will be able to daisy chain anything to the 4K display.  I've read that the design of Thunderbolt 2 includes support for DisplayPort 1.2 multi-stream (MST), which allows this type of daisy chaining with 4K, but we don't know if Apple has this supported on it's machines.  Apparently it's been buggy in development because the graphics driver needs to work correctly with the Thunderbolt 2 host controller.  I'm sure they will work it out if they haven't already.
The above is all via found information on this topic, but you can follow some more discussion here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1713876
One more note on Thunderbolt worth sharing: always keep your fastest peripherals closer to the computer in the chain. If you have a TB1 device directly connected to the computer, anything further down the chain will be limited to TB1 speed/capability regardless of it's native speed.  Always connect TB2 devices first, and save anything TB1 for the end of the chain.

Not using Boot Camp, but you should be able to using virtualization software such as Parallels to run Windows concurrently with OS X.

  • SSD in MBP 13" Retina Late 2013 doesn't work - Can't boot at all

I have a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina which works flawlessly. It has a factory installed 512 GB SSD, which also works flawlessly. Then I bought basically the same type of 512 GB SSD, 2nd hand but new, which I intended to install in another MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013.
The seller told me it is compatible with the MBP Retina Late 2013, but when installed, the known to be good MBPR doesn't boot. Not from that SSD, not from an attached USD HDD which has two perfectly bootable Mavericks partitions. When pressing the alt-Key on booting, I can however see two partitions on that SSD (Mac OS X 10.8.4 and a Recovery Partition), yet it is not booting at all, thus also doesn't allow me to inspect or treat this SSD with Disk Utility or other tools.
All I get is the grey screen with the striked through circle sign (see attached image). I've tried both, PRAM reset and SMC reset, no change.
Here comes the interesting part: Although both SSD look identical, they have slightly different model and part numbers (see attached image).
Working, factory installed SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A6. Part No. 665-1805D
    Non-booting, 2nd hand SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A2. Part No. 665-1805A
Any ideas what’s going on here and how to solve this?

    Excellent point! Mac OS X 10.9.1 doesn’t equal Mac OS X 10.9.1!
Back in the bad old days of Mac OS X Install DVDs, I was aware of the fact that there were different versions of the OS X Installer testing against the Mac ID to make sure that bundled versions get only installed on those Macs which the DVD came with. And the DVD where clearly labeled in that sense.
Now in the days of Internet download and installation from USB sticks, SSD and HDD, one completely forgets about this. On the other hand, with Mavericks being free, I don’t understand the need for such limitations, and not at least the recovery partition allows booting any Mac which supports Mavericks.
When you boot with the alt-Key pressed and you see at least one partition with Mac OS X 10.9.1, one just doesn’t understand why the heck the Mac doesn’t boot. Now I do. Apple would be well advised to simply add a short info line, like „This version of Mac OS X is missing components to boot this Mac. Please re-install from the AppStore using this computer“. It would take out A LOT of guesswork.
Anyhow… I booted the MBPR using the working SSD, installed Mavericks from the AppStore on the external USB HDD, switched the SSDs, booted from the external USD HDD’s now bootable 10.9.1 Recovery Partition, wiped the suspicious non-booting SSD and installed Mavericks. No further problems. (Completely forgot about the CMD-OPT-R Internet Recover Mode keg55 has mentioned…)
    Thanks for the hint!

i have a macbook pro 15" retine, late 2013, should i upgrade OS to Yosemite ?

I suggest that you partition your storage and install Yosemite on the new partition and try it out.  That way you can revert to the prior OSX if you feel it is not worth it.  You also could install it on an external HDD and test it that way.
    Ciao.

  • Blank screen after rotating the display in Yosemite (MacBook Pro Late 2013)

    Hi,
after installing Yosemite on my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2013 I have trouble rotating it's screen. After I launch Preferences and click Displays while pressing alt and command keys I see the list of possible orientations available.
If I now select 270° the screen immediately goes black. To be clear: The display is not turned off like when the MacBook sleeps. It's still lit, but only shows a black screen. After turning the MacBook off by pressing and holding the power button I can boot and voilà, the screen is perfectly normal, showing everything rotated at 270°. If I reset to Landscape from there (i. e. 0°), I have no problem at all, everything still works. Setting it back to 270° again lets the screen go black again.
I have an installation of Mavericks at my primary partition and it has no problems at all with rotation. Is this a known bug or can anyone confirm this behaviour?
As a hint for others suffering the same problem: You can get around the hard reset by pressing shift-comand-q followed by enter key. This logs your user out of the system and gets you back to the login screen. This obviously kind of reinitializes the UI. After that, the display's rotation is working and you just have to login again.
Even if this is some kind of workaround it would still be much more convenient not requiring this workaround.
    Thanks in advance,
    Oliver

    Hi,
yes, I had the same issues here! My solution was to force the system to use the discrete graphics card instead of the intel one. Then you get some additional options for the resolution which are much more usable. If you need further infos let me know. I'm using the MacBook in a rotated state about 95% of the time and it works pretty well now (at least in Mavericks, where I also experience your described behaviour).
    Greetings,
    Oliver

  • Crazy Things Happening

I've been using the 'old versions' of this software for years
to create simple web page designs. Plain old HTML pages from
slices, with a few rollovers. Never any problems.
Until I upgraded to CS2 with Dreamweaver 8. Now NOTHING works
properly. Not only does ImageReady make a total mess of slices
& rollovers, Dreamweaver makes a total mess of everything in my
web layout - that is, when it isn't crashing every 2 minutes. My
file structure is simple (html document in root folder, with images
in subfolder) - after 5 hours trying to create 1 page - it's time
    for drastic measures!
Maybe it's my configuration? I have CS2 versions of Photoshop
(9.0.2) and ImageReady (9.0) using with Dreamweaver 8.0.2. My Mac
OS is 10.3.9. I've patched everything that I am aware of.... any
ideas what I can do to make this work?
    Thank you anyone --!!

    1) Are you using Exchange ActiveSync? That can happen if you lose the connection before the delete processes on the server. I've seen it happen if I have a poor signal or if the phone switches to/from wifi while I'm deleting a message. I suppose it could happen with IMAP as well.
    2) Also had that happen with Exchange. Try removing and recreating the email account on the phone.
    3) That's pretty much the same thing as a kernel panic on a Mac. I've had it happen once or twice when my phone is plugged into my car stereo via USB. That is the only time it happens, so I suspect the stereo is causing the iOS kernel to freak out and panic. However, it could be a hardware problem if it just randomly happens while using the phone. Apple replaced my 3GS twice due to unexplained hard resets.

  • Crazy thing happened on flight from Philly?!

While at the airport for 4 hrs I played my iPod for a good majority of that time. I boarded the plane and waited for the permission to turn it on again. I was using the Sony noise cancelling headphones and guess I fell asleep when I woke the iPod had stopped. I looked at the screen and it showed that it was still playing a song tried to stop, pause and forward to next song...nothing. The screen was hot to the touch...finally I got it to shut down by resetting it, but I was flipping because I thought sure it was going to catch fire on the flight! Anybody have this happen before or heard of it??
    Thanks, Ed

You don't have to worry about this. It's not your fault and you can keep using Verizon's sim.
    You're lucky man!
If there were any problems the only things you have to do is cut the sim and maybe burn it and keep using your smartphone with a different sim card!

  • Crazy thing happening here!!!

I'm building my own scroller and I'm using a variable to
control the height of the middle section of the scoller. I'm
setting a variable with a number such as 113. When I set the height
equal to the variable it changes the number by what appears to be
    and extra 1.5% ???
    var newScrollerHeight:Number =
    Math.floor(scrollbg._height-(contentMain._height-maskedView._height))
    // trace = 113;
    dragger.middlePart._height = newScrollerHeight; // trace =
    115.6
??? This is obviously offsetting all the rest of my alignment
for the dragger. Any ideas of why?

What happens if you just use
    dragger.middlePart._height =
    Math.floor(scrollbg._height-(contentMain._height-maskedView._height));
im not sure why the variable would change value - do you use
    scale or anything like that?

  • Help! Crazy things happening to computer!

I watched a video file today, and when QuickTime opened up, all the words on the menu were replaced by A's with boxes around them.
I restarted the computer, then ALL of the words on the desktop and menu bars are replaced by these symbols. The only way items are legible is through list form.
Now, I can't open certain applications (Preview, Photoshop, AppleWorks) due to various errors. For Preview, it says "You cannot use the application Preview on this version of Mac OS X.
The other two apps show error messages like this:
The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<AppleWorks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonCore>"
Also, Console says this over and over again "plist parse failed; the data is not proper UTF-8."
I'm stumped, and I hope it's not a virus of some kind.

    You could try this firs:
    1. Reboot from the install disk, and then go to the menu bar and select Disk Utility and run both Repair functions on your startup drive
    2. When it finishes restart again and hold down the Shift key when you hear the chime
    3. This will boot into Safe Mode, run the Repair Disk function again, and also delete a number of cache file (especially some font ones), because of these activities the boot process will take rather longer than normal
    4. If it then boots into your normal Desktop, and all the menus appear as usual, go to Restart and do a normal boot
It's not a virus of any kind. You've got disk corruption, and evidently the file or files that are corrupt are critical ones. If you get a message that the disk can't be repaired you could try buying a copy of Disk Warrior. If you have all your data backed up it would probably be just as fast to erase the drive and reinstall.
