All sound randomly dissapearing after use of about 2 hours or so

My sound randomly stops working after a few hours of use. I need help because I tend to be in long-term Skype calls and when I'm editing or watching over a video for business purposes my audio randomly cuts out. I have found a way to fix it and one way
only and that is to reset my PC. Is there any other solution?

Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The
work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do
Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

  • Itunes sound randomly dissapears (windows)

Hi, After checking everywhere, I haven't been able to find a solution for this.
When using iTunes 11 with Airplay (even if playing to multiple speakers, ie. to my computer and Airplay speakers), the sound "randomly" dissapears (Windows)
    Description of the issue:
    1.  Using iTunes 11 with Airplay (even if playing to multiple speakers, ie. to my computer + Airplay speakers).
    2.  When itunes finishes a song, RANDOMLY, as it should start playing the next one,
2.1   The next song's is not played ... (sound dissapears from all the speakers, including my computer speakers)
2.1.   In the screen guider the songs keeps "playing"
    3.  If I press the "PAUSE" button in iTunes and after a few seconds press "PLAY", the song restarts playing ... INCLUDING SOUND !
    4.   This issue ONLY HAPPENS when using Airplay (if only using my computer speakers, it doesn't happen).
    HELP!!!!!!!
(I have tried everything: Updating sound drivers, reinstalling Quicktime and iTunes, deactivating sound enhancements in Windows and itunes, deactivating ipv6 in my network card - which fixed Airplay, ...)

Why does my sound keep cutting out ?????
If you purchase a track and find it is defective, the music retailer will give you a replacement or refund. They are unlikely however, to just reimburse you for all your past purchases.
If one online music download store is not meeting your needs, try another. There are many. Ditto for players and programs.

My problem started after installing "smartsync app" which is supposed to sync my phone with the profilepage photos of my friends in facebook. All my apps crashed after using them for awhile. While using my apps, they will black out after a little while and the phone returns to the starting page. I have removed the smartsync app but my phone still behaves the same way. At the same time the dates that accompany my messages changed to another language. How can these be rectified?

Eek.  Sounds like something in the app caused some serious software issues.  You can try a hard reset, but I'd imagine you're probably going to have to do an iTunes restore to get it running right again.

  • Lost all sounds except ringtone after recent upgrade

No sound except ringtone after recent upgrade followed by the upgrade fix. Since the ringtone was only affected I didn't notice immediately! If I plug in my headphones everything works. Unable to use volume buttons on side unless headphones are plugged in, the volume symbol with white dots doesn't even appear anymore. The volume control in  itunes music only works when plugged into headphones otherwise it can't be adjusted. Worked with apple support tried everything include a restore to new still no go! It appears that a few people are having the same problem and seems weird that it  happened after last upgrade!

If you are unable to adjust the volume without headphones even after restoring, then the iPhone thinks it's plugged into a dock or cable.  This is the behavor that will happen if you plug your iPhone in to the car or iHome dock to play you music and sounds, but a docked connection will never play ringtones through the dock connection and headphones override that dock connection which is why your headphones work.
How does the phone think its connected to a dock?  Well, this can happen if the charging port gets wet at some point or if some trauma happens in there like pushing the cable in when it doesnt fit, etc.
So it happens even after restoring what do I do?  Service your iPhone. https://selfsolve.apple.com

  • Why are all of my artists/albums/playlists in random order after using iTunes Match?

I enabled iTunes match some months ago.  I have almost everythign uploaded or matched from my library.  But when I open the music app on my phone all of the artists are in seemingly random order.  This is not an issue with the sort order naming in the meta data.  I have no idea what is causing it.  The artists, albums, everything is completely out of order.  Furthermore, a lot of the songs are completley misslabeled.  I will try to play a Death Cab For Cutie song for instance and it starts playing kanye west.
Is there any way to completely redo my iTunes Match?  I can't seem to figure it out and I'm tired of a service that I am paying for giving me very little performance.

If you have AppleCare on your iPhone then call Apple, it's baically the only way you will get help on that front. Tell them about the issues. After a little while of trouble shooting they should pass you to a senior technician.
What trouble shooting have you done?
If you haven't done so already, Apple will request you to do it while they have you on the phone. Also, do not restore from a backup, set it up as a new device.

  • I keep loosing absolutely ALL sound from my mac using Garageband

I am just trying to create 1 track, something very simple nothing fancy...
I am only using Garageband NOTHING else is running, but from the start the track is orange, anyways I try to trim the length a little and in a few minutes I get that message that says something like too many vocals or instruments.
I loose all my sound, I try internet, itunes and the Garageband and get no sound what so ever!
The only way to get sound back on my mac is if i restart it or shut it down completely which is very annoying.
By the way once I loose sound in Garageband if I hit the space bar for the track to play I get a weird clicking sound, like if I were double clicking on my pad even though I am not touching the pad at all.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Yup, me too. This has been happening ever since I got MB 1.5 year ago. No fix yet.

  • Lost system sounds, then all sound gone even after installing a Live! 24-bit ca

I'm having a migraine over a computer at work. It has Windows Xp Pro installed as the OS, and originally had an integrated sound card. At some point, before I was even hired in, the system sounds stopped playing. The BIOS for the machine showed that sounds were On. The Windows Default sound scheme was selected, nothing was muted, volume was cranked, no system sounds. When you even tried to test system sounds in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds Tab, the Play button was greyed out. At one points CD's and other sounds could be played. Now nothing plays, with an error stating the device is not working properly, or is in use. So today I installed a SoundBlaster Li've! 24-bit PCI card. Card went in, installed all the drivers, installed all software from the install CD, opened the Creative sound manager to test the speakers. Clicked the 'Channel' button and 'Left Channel' was heard from the left speak, and 'Right Channel' from the right. Clicked the noice button, both speakers played noise. So card works and speakers work far as I know. However same old story with system sounds and any other sound, no matter the sound file type. Cannot play music from a CD. I've tried disabling the old integrated sound device, still no luck. I've never had this much trouble over sound, and of course as luck would have it the machine is for a user with a ton of sensiti've and very important data so I want wiping the system to be an extreme last resort (the user is also important enough to bother with the demand for sound for the sole purpose of hearing the .wav sound played when Outlook gets a new e-mail otherwise I would not have spent more then 5 seconds dealing with this.) Anyone have any tiny clue as to what could effecti'vely tell a machine it's not allowed to play any sound whatsoever?

well.....in what ways it isn't good and what are you comparing it with?

  • Digital sound output only after using Headphones

    i used my MacbookPro 17 2.66
with headphones to listen to music and after i removed headphones there is a red light in the headphone port and only digital sound output option in system preferences control panel
If i reinsert headphones, headphone output reappears
Where are my internal speaker option gone
i have a time machine backup
Can i just replace sound preferences
    Thanks

Generally that means your headphones' plug is not exactly to dimensional stands and has jammed the internal connector in the jack to the "mute" position. The plug's tip-to-shoulder distance seems to be the variable.
I've found with my MBP that, with non-standard plugs, inserting them only until they function--not until the "stop shoulder" hits the MBP case--prevents this. I have an old and cheap set of external speakers whose plug works perfectly. A patch cable I use to connect to my desktop sound system has a non-standard plug, and I have to leave the plug slightly out of the jack to prevent the problem you see. Again, insert until you hear proper sound to the device, not by feel. I've no problems with the plugs falling out using this technique.
The "official" fix is a new logic board but most people are able to free the internal contact by inserting a plus into the jack and gently wiggling it in the horizontal plane. One person recently said he freed his with a wooden toothpick.
If you use anything other than a standard plug to manipulate the jack, be certain it's non-conductive. BTW, if you use the "Search Discussion" option in the upper right of this page and search for "red light" (use the quotes) you will see a number of threads here on the subject.

  • Mails in Inbox dissapeared after  using "rule"

I set up some rules for moving mails to specific mail boxes. Sometimes it happens that a mail appears in the inbox instead of the specific mail box. Than I go to the "rules" preference, open the "rule" and than automatically the mail is moved to the mail box. Now, if i use the automatic redirect with the "rules" preference not only the specific mail is moved to the mail box, all other mails in the inbox dissapeared. They are deleted!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Michael. You're welcome.
Aside from whatever other problems you may have, I have the feeling that you haven't understood what I was trying to tell you in my previous post. What this particular rule does is irrelevant if you also have other rules and keep telling Mail to apply all of them every time you modify any of them...

  • All desktop files dissapeared after sharing

    Hope you can help me.
Recently I shared the desktop on my Macbook Air (mountain lion) so I could copy a file I had on my iMac (Mavericks) over the net.
Everything was ok and I could see the shared folder on my iMac so I copied over the file and waited until it was done but when I checked the Macbook air's desktop all previous files and folders were GONE!
I could only see the newly copied file.
I tried searching for the files all over my Macbook without any luck. The trash had some previous files there and it was not emptied so there was no deletion at all, but for some reason the files are not there.
Now, when I get the info for my user in the Macbook Air I see it is about 7.5Gb, but when I get the info on the individual folders, the total amount is about 3.5Gb, which means the files must be there somewhere.
I enabled the root user so I could make a search in the hard drive in case there was a permissions issue but could not find them either. I also ran a recovery tool but it didnt find any of the files.
I recreated the user as instructed and still no luck!
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hey John, sorry to hear about your issue. It sounds pretty baffling.
Let's see if we can isolate the problem. Go to the desktop and right click=>Get Info. Is the "Locked" box towards the middle checked? Under "Sharing & Permissions" at the bottom of the window, are the privileges of your current user account listed as "Read only?"

  • Sound not working after using AppleTV

I used AppleTV the other day with my MacBook Pro and everything worked find while I was using it. However, I want to watch something on my laptop now, and my sound is not working. The volume is grayed out in the menu and whenever I try to use my volume buttons to turn it back on, nothing happens. I think my laptop still thinks it is connected to AirPlay, but it isn't. And even when I would disconnect from AirPlay but keep AppleTV on, the volume was still grayed out. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this, as I find my self unable to.

  • All sound devices gone after upgrade to 10.8.5 - help!!

    Hi There,
I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and have lost all my sound (doesn't work over the net nor iTunes etc. - in fact iTunes doesn't even play). This all seems to be because if I open 'Audio MIDI setup' it simply states 'no devices found on the system'
Besides the obvious time machine back to the previous OSX is there anything I can do (time machine is back to a drive in my office and I am away from this). I'm pretty annoyed this has happened, everything else seems fine, thanks, Jim

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
Reboot and recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • All ports type 1 after using old type 1 Belkin hub

I needed to print on an old parallel port hp1100 and plugged in an old Belkin USB hub (type 1 usb) with parallelserialmouse ports and installed the driver - although afterwards I followed the Belkin XP uninstall instructions - now all my usb ports act as type 1s and the isight no longer works in windows. First of all: boot camp repair - several times: no joy. Tried uninstalling usb drivers etc in hardware manager so that windows could rediscover the hardware - managed to disable the keyboard and touchpad & its button! - Fortunately the power button instigated what appeared to be an orderly shutdown and I got the keyboard back on a reboot and from there a little toing and frowing in the device manager with changing the mouse driver from the two options given, I got the touch pad and then its mouse button back. I am not inclined to experiment further just yet but suspect that I will end up doing a complete re-install of Windows.
Knowing how a healthy set of usb hub drivers in a MacBook Pro (in my case 17inch high def, 2.6GHz, 200Mb) should look would enable me to force the use of the driver that I specify. As I understand the situation there are several internal usb buses of which one is a type 1 and serves keyboard and touchpad whilst the isight internal camera is on a type 2 bus and thus in my case is now inaccessible to Windows.
Am I right in thinking that all the type 2 usb host controllers and usb root hubs should use the Orange Ware Corporation drivers ousb2hub.sys+ousbehci.sys and ousb2hub.sys respectively.
If you look at which drivers the usb host controllers are using and they are simply usbhub.sys, usbport.sys, usbuhci.sys and usbui.dll
from MicroSoft then that may be the problem.
At present the device manager shows at the highest tree level two USB controllers
first one has a Generic USB hub (driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbhub.sys)
then five Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller (drivers: usbhub.sys, usbport.sys, usbuhci.sys and usbui.dll)
a USB composite device (driver: usbccgp.sys)
a USB mass storage device (driver: USBSTOR.SYS)
five USB Root Hub (drivers: usbd.sys and usbhub.sys)
    The second USB controller
Two PCI Class USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller (drivers: ousb2hub.sys and ousbehci.sys)
Two USB 2.0 Root Hub Device (driver: ousb2hub.sys)
    Any ideas?

For what it's worth. I have now managed to do a system restore to before the old usb hub install - unsigned driver install reported in the restore point description. - I hadn't taken into account that Norton Internet Security 2008 by default protects itself from changes which includes the registry - Temporarily unchecking the protection in the Norton I.S. options (whilst disconnected from the internet) allowed a successful restore. Everything appears to be working. I had to do a Windows Security patches update to recover those that were rolled back.
The system restore was the first thing that I tried originally and when Windows reported that it was unable to do one I put it down to the Mac, however it was a purely Windows + Security software issue.
In the device manager there is now one Universal Serial Bus controllers entry at the top level. One Generic USB hub (usbhub.sys), seven (yes seven(7)) Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controllers (usbehci.sys, usbhub.sys, usbport.sys, hccoin.dll & usbui.dll)some omit the hccoin.dll and usbehci and have usbuhci. There are couple of composite devices (usbccgp.sys)and seven USB Root Hubs (usbd.sys and usbhub.sys) and no sign of ousb2hub.sys and ousbehci.sys or PCI Class USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controllers.
I hope that this may be of use to anyone who comes across this post.
PS - the Isight built-in camera is now working again under Windows again.

  • Suddenly no sound in Safari after using Plex

    Hi
I have a Macmini connected to a reciever via HDMI. Sound is normally perfect.
For some reason I got a strange problem
When I look at Plex the sound is fine from the stereo, but when I then switch to Safari sound is only coming from the computer and not sending it to the HDMI and the reciever. Seems to solve from a reboot, but not all the time.
I dont think I did any upgrade of the Software.
Thanks for help if someone knows

Check your Audio Midi setup utility in Applications -> Utilities is set for 44.1kHz output.  Sometimes when that gets reset to something else, other applications have no audio.

  • My sound mix does not sound the same after using Compressor for DVD

    Hi,
Is there something I can do to maintain the sound mix of my original file when converting to the dolby in Compressor. It needs to be louder overall and sometimes the music goes way too low and the dialogue goes to soft. Sound effects were louder and now get quiet during some parts.
    Help?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
You must do some changes in the standard AC3 preset from Compressor. Duplicate it, and chage the following settings:
    - Dialog Normalization: -31
    - Compression Preset: None
Save it and try it. You must get the same mix and level than your original.
    Hope that helps !
