All the alphabet is uppercase

Hi,
I am new to Mac, just got my Macbook 2 days ago. Currently all the alphabet that I key in is in uppercase and the number pad appear symbol instead of number. Is there anyway to revert everything back to normal?

Not necessarily, the Shift key at startup causes it to go into safe mode. As long as that is detected, you'll be stuck going into safe mode until you can get the Shift key fixed. Depends on the sequence it detects the keyboards. Not sure if you can force the external keyboard to be the only one detected.

  • What happened to all the foreign alphabets in the character palette?

    Can anyone tell me why all the foreign alphabets disappeared from the character palette when I "upgraded" to Lion? Is there any way I can download them back into the character palette?
    Don

    You just need to go to the gear wheel at the top left, click on it and select customize, and then check the boxes for all the alphabets you want, plus Unicode.

  • How to show individual track information (like in the old iTunes) of a single artist (or that artist's album) without all the noise of every single other artist close in the alphabet?

    The new iTunes has truly added extra visual noise.
    I am trying to view a single Artist and the individual track information of that artist.  This used to be how itunes was, you could click on a single artist and then the tracks would all have their various categories.
    I can still see this but only in the "songs" category and in that I have to see every single song or artist alphabetically.
    How do I simply see the artist, and that artist's tracks, as well as the different info about that track I want to see, such as "name, track #, time, year, genre, bit rate, kind, etc."
    Please don't counsel me on what information I need to see, or suggest that I stop caring about this, or ask me why I want to see this various info.
    It was simple and accessible in the older version and I would probably stop complaining to all of my friends about the latest version of itunes if I can see this old format.
    Or... is there a way to re-download the old version?  It's okay that you've made mistakes, every company makes mistakes, if I can revert to the old version that would be great.
    Thank you.

    Select the Songs tab, then under iTunes Menu select View then click Show Column Browser. You will see the familiar GENRES ARTISTS ALBUMS header, click on one artist and you will have only the artist's albums and songs showing in the window below with all the specific info you selected under View options. If this is not what you wanted, simply reply with a nice "no thanks".
    Search this forum for instructions to reinstall iTunes 10.7, there are quite a few posts explaining the process.

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

    How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

    How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
    The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
    Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
    Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
    Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
    Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
    We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
    Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
    As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • I transferred my iPhoto FACES to my mini iPad and: (a) they are not in the alphabetical order I had them in, (b) some of the FACES have been deleted, (c) the EVENTS I checked off in iTunes do not all appear in the iPad?

    I transferred my iPhoto FACES to my mini iPad and: (a) they are not in the alphabetical order I had them in, (b) some of the FACES have been deleted, (c) the EVENTS I checked off in iTunes do not all appear in the iPad?

    Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there.
    Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
    Look there for the iPod Photo Cache. Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

  • How can i display a list of all the names stored in the Mail app?

    When sending an email, the program shows a list of names according to the first and subsequent letters that I type into the To: field. There are times I cannot recall someone's email user name. How can I display a complete list of all the names Mail has stored? I know that I can go to the To: field then type in the letter A, then write down all listings under A, and then repeat for each letter of the alphabet, but there should be an easier method.
    I have perhaps dozens of names in Mail, but only five names in Address Book, so the latter does me no good.

    On the menubar, Mail > Window > Previous Recipients

  • IPod Not being recognized with all the software updates

    I've been without my iPod for a few weeks now and I desperately want it back. I dropped it a while back, and have come online to look up stuff to restore it, but none of that is working for me. I reset it by pressing "menu" and "Play" at the same time, then put it into disk mode by pressing the "ff" and "rwd" buttons together, but even in disk mode my computer is not recognizing it at all. The iPod screen says that it is in disk mode, and says it's okay to disconnect, but its not giving me the option to restore when I connect it to my computer and open the iPod updater.
    It also gives me the file folder w/ an exclamation point whenever i don't put it into disk mode. And the few times that my computer does pick up something the iPod updater flashes a message that says "Can't Mount iPod" and then the updater manually closes itself. Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks
    20GB with Dock Connector   Windows XP

    For "Cant mount iPod" - please try the following first
    Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
    -- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
    -- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
    If still cant solve it then
    The Sad iPods icon, clicking sound or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
    Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    There are also some cases being reported that some unrecognized iPod being able to be erased with Linux, then reconnect the iPod with the original computer and do a Restore there.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
    “Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
    My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
    Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
    10. Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
    Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
    Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
    Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
    11. Put your iPod in disk mode and plug with a computer, and have a boot of your computer using the Mac OS or XP startup disks, hope that your iPod will be seen on Mac's Disk utility and allow you to do a Erase there. Or, under the XP, you will be able to find your iPod there for you to do a Restore.
    But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
    I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Can not see all the SQL server views

    My SQL Server 2005 (SP2 STD)  has about 1000 views. When I created a Crystal Report using Crystal Report 10, I can only see about 225 views are listed in Database Expert. Here is the procedure to reproduce the problem:
    1. Create a new Crystal Report
    2. Create a new connection using ODBC RDO
    3. Drill into DSN Name->DB Name->dbo->Views. Only the first 200 or so views in alphabetical order are listed on Available Data Sources on the left pane.
    I am using SQL authentication and sa account to connect to SQL. So security should not be the problem. I can also use Access 2003 linked table to see all the views in my SQL server.
    Is there a restriction on how many views can be listed in Crystal Data Source? Is there another way to add data source to Report without using Database Expert?
    Thanks in advance!

    Youdao,
    There is a default limit of 8000 objects that Crystal will see in the database.
    I would suggest right clicking on your datasource and selecting Options. In the Data Explorer uncheck Tables and Stored Procedures leaving Views selected > press OK > then right click again and refresh.
    If the limit was being reached then you should now see at least more Views if not all.
    The default limit can be edited in the Registry (*Always recommended to back up the registry before editing).
    The key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Crystal Decisions or Business Objects > (version number) > Crystal Reports > Fetch options > NTablesMax

  • Very weird! Preview doesn't open all the selected items!

    I transferred 120 photos from my digital camera to a new folder.
    Then I selected them all and double-clicked, causing them to open under Preview.
    But there are gaps in what opens!
    For example, none of the photos between filenames P1030899 and P1030955 open up!
    Yet if I select the photo files in that range separately and double-click on them they open up just fine!
    Why won't all the photos open up when selecting 120 at once?!
    I never noticed any such phenomenon with my old PB...
    doug

    OK. After doing some tests with Apple Support the problem turns out to be different, and perhaps more minor than I thought. But I would very much like other people here to test this as well!
    The images are, in fact, all loading by Preview. But what happens is the first couple load, then a bunch are skipped, then others load then the ones that didn't load before are loaded.
    So what Preview is showing after they are all loaded is not the images in order of filename, but the images in load order.
    If you control-click on any image and then click the "sort by name" option (even though that option was already selected) then the images immediately re-order themselves.
    So it is more a Preview sorting bug that it doesn't re-sort itself after loading all the images.
    I guess this never happened on my older PB because of the timings involved the load order was always the same as the file order alphabetically.
    What I would like to know is - can other people duplicate this as well?
    If you have a folder with, say, 200 or so image files in it, please "select all" and double-click. This will open all the images in Preview.
    Do all the images display in order immediately? Or is it like me where the first few display in order, then there is a gap of some number of images, then later images show up then your "missing" issues show up later. (You can resort after they are all loaded of course.)
    Thanks,
    doug

  • After IMPDP in new schema all pl/sql in UPPERCASE.

    Hi,
    I am using ORACLE 11g R2 DB and IBM AIX OS.
    I have faced a very different situation. I had last night's backup dump file of the user, in the morning we had some issue so we need to restore that dump in the current user. So i dropped the user first and then created it. Gave all the respective privileges and started the IMPDP process in which i passed the same dump file from last night's backup. This dump file belonged to the same user. So , the dump is of the same user in which it is getting imported.
    But to my surprise all the pl/sql blocks(procedures,functions,packages) all have been imported in UPPERCASE. Even the comments and the single quotes values by which we can do the data matching, all are turned into UPPERCASE. So we are facing a lot issue with it as data is not getting matched as per the procedure.
    The user is passing the value as 'app server' and in the procedure the value is as "SELECT.......WHERE SERVER_NAME='APP SERVER' " . so the data is not matched and it returns no output. This is a case in many procedures and we found this only after we imported this dump file.
    The IMPDP command is as follows:-
    impdp \'sys as sysdba\' directory=remote dumpfile=dblink_ngpmt_mt_mt01_19-03-2012-13-10-20.dmp logfile=dblink_ngpmt_mt_mt01_19-03-2012-13-10-20.log remap_schema=MT01:mt01The log file is as below :-

    Job "SYS"."SYS_IMPORT_FULL_01" completed with 120 error(s) at 18:24:32Please advice me what is the solution for this? what exactly must have been happen that all the pl/sql got converted in UPPERCASE.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ok, so with the sql fie, you verified that the dump file is being represented in all upper case. Now you want to check the source database. Can you do this on the source data base.
    set pagesize 10000
    set long 900000000
    select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('PACKAGE_BODY', 'SOME_PACKAGE_THAT_LOOKS_WRONG', 'SCHEMA_OWNING_PCK) from sys.dual;
    If this comes out in all caps, then someone messed with your source database. If it doesn't, then I can't figure out how the dumpfile got to be all caps.
    Let us know what the results are for the above query.
    Thanks
    Dean

  • How do I put all the episodes from a TV show into one iTunes folder?

    Can someone tell me how to put all the episodes from a TV show into one folder?  I'm not sure how I did this, but while converting my dvd's to digital on my computer, one TV show (Firefly) created one folder with the Firefly name, and within that folder are all the episodes.  I've tried to recreate this with MASH, but it just puts each episode into the TV library.  This gets very messy with alot of different TV shows.  Help!  Thanks!!

    In principle TV Shows are grouped on the Show field and within a show sub-grouped on Season No. In practice recent builds of iTunes and/or Apple TV firmware seem to be taking account of Album, Artist & Album Artist in certain views. For consistency I would suggest the following approach:
    Show = Album = <Show Name>
    e.g. "30 Rock"
    Artist = Album Artist = <Show Name> Cast (or something like that)
    e.g. "30 Rock Cast"
    Season No. = <Season No.> or <Blank> (Separate seasons or all listed together)
    e.g. 1-3
    Episode ID = s##e## (This field, sorted alphabetically, controls order)
    e.g. s01e01 - s03e58 (use s##e### when >99 episodes)
    Episode No. = Track No. = <Absolute Episode No.>
    (Can also be per season, but abs. is better) e.g. 1 - 58
    Disc No. = <Season No.> (Can be set even if merging seasons)
    e.g. 1-3
    Taking this approach you can always merge or split into individual seasons simply by clearing or setting the Season No. field.

  • How do I get back the functionality for the alphabetical drop down from my previous searches in the center Google search box of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page?

    In the afternoon of August 24 I lost a feature on my Mozilla Firefox Start Page and I cannot figure out how to get it back. It concerns the Google Search area in the MIDDLE of the page. Previously, when I would want to do a search, for example Amazon, I would type the letter 'A' and, because I had typed 'Amazon' in that Search box before, an alphabetical drop-down menu would come up with 'Amazon' in it. I could then click on that word without having to type the rest of it. That option is no longer working.
    I had done an Adobe Reader update that Friday morning, so I thought that might be why this happened,. I did a System Restore and took the system back to Tuesday, August 21. That did not help.
    I ran CCleaner and cleaned the Registry also. Interestingly enough, I found that right after I do that and then open a Mozilla Firefox Start Page, the alphabetical drop down function is back in the center Search bar for one time, one search. After that it is gone again. I go in and do just CCleaner (no Registry cleaning required) and the same thing happens...the functionality is there for one search only.
    I went in and made sure all my Add-ons/Plug-ins are up to date. I also ran a full system scan but no issues came up.
    I am computer illiterate, so please bear with me. I have no idea if any of the things I tried would have helped or not.
    I have Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1
    I appreciate any help you can provide.

    The "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
    Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
    If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />

  • The alphabetical order in my Ipod Touch is not followed

    Hi, I just bought a new Ipod Touch 32Go because my old 8Go wasn't working anymore. And the problem with the new one is that it doesn't follow the alphabetical order of the songs or the artists name. For example,  when I'm looking for a track starting with a W, I've got to look in the X or the V. to find it. etc... The problem is not that the songs are not well named because the problem was not there with my old Ipod.  help.
    Thanks for your help.

    I've found out by myself. I've tried everything, turn it off then on again. Re sync everything many times. Tried to go in the preferences. But the only thing that worked was to reset everything. Put the Ipod back to 0 and start all over again. I may have lost every data that I've been setting for the past days but at least now I can find the music I'm looking for in the correct alphabetical order
    Have yourself a good day.

  • Assigning letters of the alphabet to characters from a .txt file

    To say in advance, I am relatively new to java, and really have trouble wrapping my mind around some of these things sometimes, so bear with me if I sound like Im rambling or don't know what I'm talking about. What Im trying to do is basically get some input from the user, read from a file of letters (one letter per line) in the order that they should be assigned to the alphabet. So the list starts off like this (parenthesis are just for example and are not in the file):
    y (a)
    7 (b)
    z (c)
    x (d)
    c (e)
    o (f)
    5 (g)
    4 (h)
    j (i)
    r (j)
    If the user types in "abe", I need to find a way for the system to translate that to "y7c". Im also looking to do this the opposite way, so the user types in "y7c" and the output is "abe". I've got it separated so that you type in "translate" to convert normal text to the code, and "convert" to start the process change the code to normal text.
    Its the actual translating and converting where Im stuck. Heres my all my code (not all of it is mine, but for the most part it is):
    public class cypher1 {
         static Scanner query = new Scanner(System.in);

                   System.out.println("Enter text to convert: ");
                   conTxt = query.nextLine();
                   String[] newStringArray = new String[conTxt.length()];
                   for(int i = 0;i < conTxt.length();i++){
                      newStringArray[i] = conTxt.substring(i, i+1);
    }I've got the code from the "cypher" file read, but Im thinking I might run across some issues since the code that reads from the file is not mine, and may not be exactly what I need. But my main question is how do I match each character from the input with its other character from the file? It's there that I am completely lost. I don't even have a clue how to start that.
    Any advice at all would be amazing!

    Any advice at all would be amazing!First, I agree with Kevin that Maps (especially HashMaps) would probably be ideal but, assuming you're not familiar with them just yet and want to use arrays, some pointers:
    1. Since your translator is character-based, use arrays of characters (ie, char or Character), not Strings. For example, your 'alpha' array could be set up with:
    private char[] alpha = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz".toCharArray();Characters can be extracted from Strings using [String.charAt()|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17409_01/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#charAt%28int%29].
    2. Finding characters will be much quicker if the array is sorted. Have a look at the Arrays class for some useful methods.
    3. Decide what you want to do if the supplied string contains an invalid character. Common practice is to throw an Exception, but you might want to display a message and get the user to re-enter.
    4. You use the terms "translate" and "convert". I'd suggest "encode" and "decode" would be more explicit to a user.
    5. I'm not quite sure what your 'num' array is meant to do. If numbers are included in your code, then they should be included in your 'alpha' array (which makes the name a bit misleading).
    6. You don't appear to be encoding spaces. Is this what you want?
    7. You need a way of associating a character in one array with its corresponding character in the other. One way to do that would be to create a nested class:
    private static class AssociatedCharacter {
       private char c;
       private int associatedIndex;
    }and then set up arrays of 'AssociatedCharacters'. An alternative is to set up an array of indexes for each array of characters, viz:
    private char[] alpha = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz".toCharArray();
    private char[] encoded = new char[alpha.length]; // load with your "encoded" characters
    private int[] alpha2encoded = new int[alpha.length];and then load it with the index that corresponds to it's encoded version in the other array. Obviously, you'll need an 'encoded2alpha' to go the other way, and it may be a bit more difficult since 'encoded' should be sorted too.
