All Time Machine dates are white, no pink. How can I be sure data is backed up on Time Capsule, not just on iMac itself?

Apple support http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4256 says "If you back up to a Time Capsule or other network disk, a message briefly appears while Time Machine connects your computer to the backup disk." When I enter Time Machine on my iMac (OS 10.6.8) I get a window entitled "Connecting to Server" and says, "connecting to backup volume" with a horizontal blue and white barber's pole. This message goes on for about 60 seconds before Time Machine opens.
Apple support goes on to say, "Gray tick marks on the timeline represent snapshots stored on your internal drive (portable computers only). Pink tick marks represent backups stored on your backup disk." All the tick marks and dates are grey and become white when mouse is rolled over them. No dates are pink.
If I have not pink dates, are my backups stored on my Time Capsule? Or, are all backups local on the iMac itself? What do I need to do to ensure backup is on the Time Capsule?

Pardon the dramatics, but don't do that. Time Machine will, sooner or later, delete the backup copies of anything that's no longer on your Mac.
Plus, of course, if you delete the originals, you no longer really have backups (backup = an extra copy in case something happens to the original).
Your best bet might be to get a larger internal HD for your Mac. Second best would be to get another external HD, format it for a Mac, and move some stuff (perhaps your entire iPhoto library) to it, and let Time Machine back up both your internal HD and the new external.

If your media is in iTunes restore the iPod, but the iPod is/was the only location currently hosting some of your media then the first task is to try to extract it. See the user tip Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for some recovery tools. Most third party tools will probably require the device to have a functioning library however the techniques outlined in the iLounge Article referenced at the end should work as long as the device still shows up in Windows Explorer or Finder.

I have reinstalled my OS without time machine (using the disc). I want to restore some pictures in the iPhotos which are already in the time machine i was using previously. How can I restore iPhoto from previous time machine?

My mac book was incredibly slow. When I went to Mac store, they asked me to reinstall the OS with CD and not with the time machine. I reinstalled the operating system. But when I opened the applications, all those started as fresh applications as usual. I have the backup of all other data in another hard disc. But unfortunately, I forgot to copy the photos before reinstallation. I have those photos in my time machine back up. But when I opened time machine, it started like a fresh (very new) time machine and it started backing up my present OS (the reinstalled one). I cannot open the previous time machine, which is in the same hard drive. I wish to open the previous time machine to get the photos which are backed up previuosly. When opened the time machine disc (manually by clicking the icon), i can see all the thigs which I had previously in my macbook. But unfortunately, i cannot access those through time machine! Can anybody help me please?

Click on the Desktop. Select Preferences from the Finder menu. Check the General and Sidebar toolbar items. See that the appropriate boxes are checked.

Try a hard reset first. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If that doesn't work, try restoring your iPod via iTunes.

You cannot browse a Time Machine backup with the Finder. To restore individual music files or any other files normally available in the Finder, open your Music folder then "Enter Time Machine" using the Time Machine icon.
Restoring individual photographs is slightly more cumbersome. Apple recommends restoring the entire iPhoto Library, but if you want to locate an individual photograph you could use Time Machine to restore the old Libary. Restore it to an alternate location to avoid overwriting your existing one. Open iPhoto while holding an Option key, open the restored Library, find the photo you need and export it, close iPhoto, re-open it with your usual Library, and import the photo.

I connected my iphone for the first time to my itunes. It didnt have any backup or anything saved on icloud. Sorry saker, but if you have not backed up your data anywhere, and you told the computer, in essence to clear the data and restore it with your iPod data, then you are pretty much out of luck....

I can't stay connected to internet. I've changed my location. Same thing. All my other devices are working fine. How can I get my iMac back online?

I am unable to connect to the internet. WiFi, ethernet all working fine. Multiple devices can connect to the internet. Diagnostic on iMac says I'm connected and should be able to access the internet. This is all beyond me. I've changed the location, it appeared to set every thing up. Still doen't work. It must be corrupted so how do I clean it up?

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait for few minutes.
Connect the router back to to the wall.
Power the router back on. Wait until all lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
Restart the computer.

Everything that was on your classic should also have been in your library, and that backed up to another drive. If you manually managed the device, and it was the only location holding your playlists, and it has become corrupted, there really isn't much hope. See Corrupt iPod classic. There may be a chance to recover media stored on it if is isn't stored elsewhere.

You might post this query on the iPhoto forum and perhaps someone there can provide an answer.
I tried this on my MBP and it seems that you have to restore the entire iPhoto Library. What I did was put the current library in a separate folder on the desktop and then I restored the library from a prior date. If you were to do that, you then could extract the desired photos and then delete the restored library. Then place the current library back to the original location and import the desired photos.
Not tidy but it seems it will work.
