All Video imported to FCE Not Good

Why is all the video clips I import to FCE choppy(not smooth)?
I store the clips in an external hard drive. I use as the scatch disk.It is just in FCE this happens in.I view the same clips in Quicktime and iMovie they are fine.
What em I not doing or missing here?

They are .DV clips, I converted .MOI files from a JVC hard drive camera useing
http://www.squared5.com
I am playing the marterial in the viewer. When I play the marterial in iMovie or Quicktime it plays beautiful.
The external hard drive is a LaCie d2 triple interface 250GB. I am useing firewire400 to connect.

  • My quicktime video "imported" into FCE

shows a thumbnail in the browser - but the video isn't actually there. Has happened with capture from the camera as well - all looks good/right in the process (like normal) but I finish up without the video where I need it in FCE. It plays fine as a Quicktime file on my hardrvie.  I would of course love your thoughts, since this seems to be happening more often.

Does anyone know how I can get the sound to transfer as well so I can use the whole video + sound in imovie.
Sony Digital cameras usually save their video files as "muxed" MPEG-1 (MPEG VX) content which is "playback only" compatible with QT applications. Thus, when you use QT based applications to perform your conversion, only the video content makes it through the conversion process. In this case you need to use a third-party, MPEG-based utility to perform your conversions. iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware, and Visual Hub (pay-ware) are all popular Internet downloads which will work for you. iSquint is probably the easiest to use but limits your conversion to MPEG4/AAC and H.264/AAC compression formats which are compatible with iMovie '08. I prefer MPEG Streamclip which is more full featured and allows the use of additional formats such as DV and AIC/AIFF but is not as simple to use.

  • Importing video- video import screen does not pop up when I plug camcorder in

I have used IMovie before on my Mac Book 5 years old. But I now have a Mac Book Pro with all of the latest applications and I am unable to import video. I have a panasonic digital video camcorder. PAN PV-GS85. I plug in my mini USB with IMovie open and it does not pull up the import screen. I have tried turning it off then back on, switching imputs on the camcorder and still no luck. I have a video I really want to create into a movie for my mom and this is not working... Any help? The other ports on my camcorder for says DV and USB.

    Hi
It seems as Your PAN PV-GS85 is a miniDV tape Camera. If so You must use a FireWire Cable to connect to Your Mac. DV-out on Camera is same as FireWire.
So You need a FW - 4-pin to 6 or 9 pin connector depending on what FW-port Your Mac has got.
    FW400 = 6-pin
    FW800 = 9-pin
Neither iMovie any version or FinalCut can import from Your Camera via USB/USB2 - at all.
Also connect Mains adaptor to Camera and Import/Capture will work better.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Here to share my experience with my HP All-in-one...not good..Last HP I buy!!

I always thought that HP sold a great product. Around 2 years ago I went out and bought an HP All-in-one Model 6210. Within the first week of purchase I began to get an error, "Carriage Jam." The unit was BRAND NEW!! I called their customer helpline. (That's a good one...helpline...yeh right) I reached a guy in India. I carefully explained my problem to him. How did this "trained professional" choose to help me? He told me that he could sell me another unit, different model of course, at a discounted price! No, I'm not making this up! I have lived with this annoying problem for the past two years or so. Sometimes, I don't get the error, but I usually do. Also, why do these expensive ink cartridges only last around 4-5 weeks? I don't print that much stuff. I really don't! Right now, I can't even use it at all. It just says "Carriage Jam." I press "ok" and the unit makes some noises and things then it says "Carriage Jam." It's caught in a big loop. It won't print! I have no choice but to buy a new one. Can anyone blame me for not wanting to ever buy another HP product after this? Since HP basically blew me off and refused to help me in any way, I tried googling it. I found out this problem is common with this particular model All-in-one. I tried all the tricks that I read about to fix this problem. NONE of them worked! Good Bye HP! You HAVE NOT earned my return business. Rip me off once, shame on you! Rip me off twice, shame on me! Thank you for letting me vent. I feel better having done that....

  • Quick Time video import problem (MXPro, not 8)

I first posted this a few days ago, the help I received has
not been too useful, though, so I'm trying again.
I've got a flash file (.fla) whose purpose is to create a
playable movie slide to be used in another flash presentation. It
is a template, and inteded to take many different movies and
publish them as swfs for this other presentation.
I've done this successfully about ten times, by importing the
source movie (a quick time .mov) into my .fla file library, then
dragging the movie clip object that gets generated to the stage of
the .fla file. Finally, I publish the result as an swf and can use
    it in the other presentation.
I just tried doing this with a new movie, about 3 minutes in
length, and it failed spectacularly. The movie file appears to be
imported, I am walked through the whole import wizard and a
progress bar shows the movie being imported, but once it is listed
in the library, it is apparent that it isn't actually a movie.
There is no preview playback button shown in the library preview
window, and publishing the file gives a movie that shows only the
first frame and doesn't play back.
I am using flash MXPro 2004, so flash 7, not flash 8. I've
been told I need to convert the .mov to a .flv, but that appears to
be a proceedure in flash 8, so it doesen't apply here. Does anyone
out there have an idea why this might be failing?
    Extra info:
    OS: Mac G5 OS 10.3.9
Movie: 15 fps .mov encoded with Sorenson Codec, duration 3-4
    minutes
Flash: MXPro, flash 7, ActionScript used
    Thanks,
    C

Open in QT Pro, export using expert settings and pick H264. Or open in MPEG Streamclip (free) and export to MPEG-4 and pick one of the iPod or iTunes presests.
If you just open and save it you are contiually saving it with the same codec. You have to export it to change the codec.

  • Why does all videos keep buffering and not play

Why do videos keep buffering and play when I select them?

I am in Florida, and  have a comcast business account and get download speeds of 22mbps (as tested).
The Apple tv is hooked directly into the modem with ethernet.
We have tried about 6 different routers with apple TV and none of them make the Apple Tv perform without stuttering and buffering.  So we decided to use direct hook up.
I have called Apple repetitively because when trying to watch a trailer/preview, the preview stops and the buffering starts.
This will also happen when watching movies.
Lowering TV resolution to 600x480 does not help either.
Apple fail to tell me where their Itunes servers are located, so it's impossible to do a traceroute to see if there's a problem on the way.
Desperate with this situation I opened a DSL account with Centurylink :same problem!!
It seems that Apple should fix their Apple TV product before placing a product on the market that does not perform as stated.
We took this a step further, and purchased a few Apple Tv's which we are setting up with different Internet providers to see what the results are.
You may think I have nothing better to do, but I'm building a case against Apple and shall get to the bottom of this. There are no excuses for placing faulty products on the market.

  • HT2905 itunes has duplicated all my imported songs and not the albums so cannot use your solution

Itunes has duplicated all the songs of my library; how can you get rid of duplicates the quickest way possible knowing that I can't use
the suggestion to delete albums as they are the songs and not the albums which have been duplicated.

The script still works as intended whether you can pre-filter for duplicates or not. As of right now there may be an issue with some of my scripts if the library is displaying available iCloud purchases. Untick Edit > Preferences > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases if the script bombs complaining of missing object properites.

  • Video imports but does not appear in Event Library

Have a problem with importing video from Sony HDR-SR10. The video plays in the camera and plays during import. The import process completes, but only 3 of 6 clips are shown in event library. Any suggestions???
Also - When attaching the video camera via USB, Iphoto starts along with Imovie. There are some photos in the video camera as this does both still and video. Still images were imported to iphoto and deleted. Yet iphoto still starts???

Where any of the clips that don't show up in the event library a long duration, like over 10 minutes? I had a similar problem with long clips with my Sony SR1.
Here's a thread that gave me a solution with that problem:

  • Video imported is blurry !??!

I am using iMovie '11 version 9.0.4.  I am using a Sony Handycam DCR-SX63 digital movie camera and capturing video in the highest quality.  All video, when viewed on a 50" TV is crystal clear.  However, ALL video imported to iMovie'11 is very, very blurry and poor quality.  Any and all video imported is fuzzy and blurry.  Any projects created are fuzzy and blurry.  Any DVDs burnt are fuzzy and blurry.  I have tried importing to both my Macbook and my new iMac and there is no difference in the poor quality. I have also tried importing directly from the camera and also by importing from the SD card.  I don't expect movie theatre quality but I would like to have reasonably clear projects and DVDs.  Can someone please help??  Again, please note that video viewed by plugging the camera directly into the TV is flawless.  Any video transferred to iMovie is horrible.  (yes I have tried the stabilization mode and non stabilization mode).  Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Thanks, but for $300 I'd almost be better off finding a video camera that recorded in a compatible format.  I'm just an amateur trying to do home movies.  Aren't there any programs that will convert my MPEG2 Sony video to a type that will look good in iMovie and iDVD??

  • Lost all my important bookmarks when I upgraded to Firefox 4. I want the old Firefox AND my bookmarks back!!!

I just upgraded to Firefox 4 and in the process lost all my important bookmarks. Not acceptable!! How do I get the old version of Firefox back including ALL my old bookmarks?

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Imovie is limited to its import formats and does not allow for storing video in any rawformat.  Which means all videos will contain lossy compression applied to the video….with no way to edit full format video.  Is this statement true? Does iMovie support HD 1080p @ 60 fps?

    …   Is this statement true?
    yes and no!
using the intended Import from Camera routines, iM converts automatically in its very own AppleIntermediateCodec. so, answer is yes.
    but …
    a) Apple claims , aic is non-lossy intermediate codec. working with proRes in FCPX taught me, there are even less non-lossy-ness codecs
    b) iM offers an Archive feature, which is basically a simple Finder/copy operation which 'clones' your SDcards content into some folder on your harddrive; e.g. you can later use these untouched  'raws' in another editor such as FCPX. so, answer is no.
    c) when you 'override' the import routines by manually re-wrapping mts into a mov container, iM handles the 'native' h264s ... so, answer is no.
    d) adding any effect, transition etc. reduces any interlaced source to 540p. (if you're working with 720p source, res is kept) … so, answer is yes. or, in 720p case, no.
    < Johnny Depp's voice >… savvy?
Does iMovie support HD 1080p @ 60 fps?
    via Import from Camera? No.
via re-wrapped mts>>mov? I was told yes, some say no.
one thing to be kept in mind when talking about these 'issues':
iM, this 12€, is meant as a CONSUMER toy tool.
    it supports AVCHD vers1 (=no 1080/60p, no >24Mbps, no 3D).
fingers crossed, we'll see soon some iM/QT/FCPX update for support of AVCHD v2 ........
the main consumer devices are within the specs, iM supports.
using professional equipments makes usage of professional software (FCPX, AP) optional.
    sorry for lengthy answer.

  • Help! Lost all Captured Video Files Using FCE 3.5 and Lacie 1TB Drive

    Hi all...
I was wondering if anyone here could advise me on a most dissapointing occurence...
A few weeks ago, I started learning Final Cut Express 3.5. I began by setting my scratch disk to my new Lacie 1TB drive and loading about 5 tapes to the drive via the capture function in FCE... all went well. I then spent the next couple of days organizing all the clips and subclips into bins that I made based on the kind of clips I had shot (my first doc attempt on a local photographer).
Editing a trailer of sorts to practice in FCE, I slowly but surely came to understand the power and functionality of FCE... things were going well. Along with the clips, I also added folders on the hard drive with still photographs, title cards made in photoshop and sound clips that I had made of traffic noises with a mp3 recorder (all sound files were converted to aiff files in quicktime pro). All these files from the hard drive were then imported into FCE and put into their own bins in the browser to keep them seperate from everything else.
Late last night, while opening FCE for another session, the software reported that all of my video files were "offline" and "did I want to reconnect them". I'd had this warning before, but only when my Lacie drive hadn't been turned on while starting up FCE... this time it was on and I was still getting the reconnect warning.
Now I find that ALL of my video files are gone!! The 200 GB of space they took up on the Lacie drive has been regained... either deleted by FCE or by the drive itself... I don't know which. The weird thing is, that the folders containing the sound, and still photos that i put together are still fine, both on the Lacie drive AND in FCE. You'd think if it was a faulty drive that all files would be deleted, or if it was FCE going beserk, that it would kill all bins, not just the video files...
This issue really is difficult because I just don't know which item is at fault and I'm reluctant to try downloading all my data again because I don't know piece of hardware is killing my files... My FCE is not a pirated copy... am using a mac book pro 15" 2 years old w/OS 10.4.11.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks very much
    Take care
    Mark

Problem solved - I had deleted all the necessary preference files. I did not reinstall Quicktime, thanks for the suggestions, though. I called Apple Care. A very helpful person on the other end of the phone directed me to trash the preferences (again). No luck. He asked me to create a new user, which I had not done, the problem was still there. The fix was a reinstall of FCE HD. All's good now. Thanks, Apple Care!

  • MTS Files not importing to FCE

I am using a Panasonic HS700 importing MTS files to FCE via log transfer is not a problem.  Where I am having problem is with a customer of mine.  I specifically had them buy Panasonic HDC-HS60 because I knew it would work with FCE on my iMac.  The company brought me the MTS files on a hard drive for me to use.  I tried using Log and Transfer and it will not work.  I did notice that the Seagate hard drive was formatted for Microsoft and I am not sure whether that would make a difference.  I don't see why I need to buy a conversion device if the video was created on a compatible device to mine.  Any help please would be most appreciated.  Cheers

The reason is that you can Log & Transfer from your HS700 is because FCE is importing directly from the camera.  You can't do that with 'bare' MTS files on a hard drive.  In copying just the MTS files from the HS60 to a hard drive you lost the clip info files, clip index files and the folder structure that are require for FCE Log & Transfer to work.
When you copy from a camcorder to a hard drive you have to copy the entire AVCHD folder structure, not just the MTS files. (Imho it's best to copy everything from the root directory down, but peole have gotten away just copying the AVCHD folder & all its content.)
At this point you could either borrow the HDC-HS60 and Log & Transfer the video from it.  Or use Clipwrap to transcode the MTS video files to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec before importing into FCE.

  • 5th Gen iPod Video not syncing all video podcasts

My 5th Gen iPod video is not syncing all of my video podcasts.
I did specify in the settings to sync all videos, but for some reason it only places 3 of each on the iPod. This is using the latest version of iTunes, OS X 10.4.8, and iPod up-to-date.
This did work fine with the previous version of iTunes and only seemed to happen since the "upgrade".
I've tried restoring the ipod - didn't work
    Reinstalled iTunes - didn't work
    Rebooted system - didn't work
    Undocked/Redocked iPod - didn't work
    Please Help.

Assuming you're running iTunes 7, connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in the iTunes source list. When it does, click on it, and click on the 'podcast' tab. Make sure it is set to sync all podcasts. Check the 'video' tab as well.
iTunes 7 included several new options for setting just how the iPod will update in iTunes. So, it's a good idea to go through them and make sure they're set exactly how you'd like them to be.
    Hope this helps
