Allan, PT, 4n6...

Kind of off-topic - but how do you get the boxes next to you name?
I assume it's because you guys have helped so many people, and they provided feedback, or something to your account...
Sorry for the non-iPhone post.

Points are awarded only by the original poster (OP).
5 points are awarded if he or she believes your post is helpful to solving the technical question asked. You can award only two "helpful" posts and only the original poster can awarded.
Same is true for awarding a "solved" amount of 10 points. Only once and only by the original poster.
Many times, someone will solve the question with a response and get nothing, or the OP will marked the question "answered" without getting any points.
There are levels.
Four stars are Level IVs, which is 8000 awarded points or more.
There are a few Level Vs, which is 50,000.
You kinda of have to know what you are talking about.
Though I, for example, hang out here because I have an iPhone, I mostly respond in the video and DVD editing forums.
You can awarded me solved or helpful points by clicking on those buttons to the right top of my post.
But it's against the rules even to mention awarding points.

  • Question for Mr. Allan Sampson or anyone else (help needed)

Hey Allan, you've been so helpful in the past, I hope you don't mind to answer another one.
How tight is the gap between the chrome bezel and the screen? Tight enough to not allow water to seep in?
    Screen--> l_______l GAP ll <--Bezel
I'm asking b/c last night it was drizzling rain and I left my 2G iphone in the car with the window cracked open. So I got a bunch of droplets on the screen and such. Coincidentally, when I turned on my phone this morning, it was acting like it wasn't activated. I got the iTunes Connect message. So I turned off the phone and then powered it back on...everything was normal again. Can this be water-damage related?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks Tamara for the response. Should I be worried the fact when I turned on my phone this morning, it was acting like it wasn't activated. I got the iTunes Connect message. I turned off the phone and then powered it back on...everything was back to normal. Can this be water-damage related? Or just a coincidence?
    Thank you so much.

Just to chime in with my 2 cents and experience ...
A few years ago I used a coolscan 4000 to scan my personal slides as a project. I had about 2000 of them from over the last 20 years and it took me about 6 weeks of personal time to do this. It was done on a Windows P4 2.5GHz Dell, but the slowest part was the actual scanning itself. I used 1 pass, Digital ICE, and saved them as 16bit TIFFs .... a whopping 65MB per scan.... To speed things up I bought the Nikon Slide adapter ($600 CDN) that would batch scan 50 slides at a time, however it would jam ( especially with the older cardboard mounted Kodachrome slides) periodically ... oh maybe 20-30 times with 2000 slides, and that really wasted time as I had to determine what need to be rescanned, and restart at the offending slide. This also would happen in the middle of the night when I was sleeping after setting the batch scan to run all night. Jamming often occurred as two slides tried to be scanned at the same time, as well as a slightly 'bent or creased' mount I found that the newer plastic mounts were better, but not entirely jam free, Nikon has some info on how well the various mounts work in their adapter on their website. Anyway I wish you well with 300+K slides to scan and recommend the batch slide adapter, and I think your speed will be determined more by the HW scan time than the CPU/GPU, so I would try to get as many scanners going as you can with that number of slides.

PS I now have all originals in Aperture, and gave up the Dell 3 years ago.

  • Allan variance and bias stability measurement?

    Hello every one,
I would like to do some measurement on  MEMS microaccelerometers. They provide analog
output voltage and are interface with a data acquisition board
    through the analog input channel.
Does any one know if there are predefined programs (routines) in
LabView to measure the bias stability and plot the Allan Variance of
    the measured data?
    Thanks.
    BVA

    Hello BVA,
I don’t believe there are any built in functions to do what you are looking for. However, it looks like a third party source has posted some code that will compute the Allan Variance for you.

  • I did a system restore on my iphone 2 and used a new name (Allan 2). Now I need to access my original iphone apps on itunes,  Where do I find my first phone display an itunes? thanks

I did a system restore on my iphone2 and used a new name for thr phone on ituhes (Allan2).  Now I need to access my saved apps on the original phone name.  How do I find the two phone profiles on itunes.  When I open it with my phone it only shows Allan2. Thanks

If your apps were in itunes on your computer, then they should still be there.  Just sync them back to the iphone.
BTW, the backup that itunes performs when syncing does NOT include music/apps/movies/tv shows etc.
Anything purchased on the iphone would have to be transferred to your computer.  File>Transfer Purchases
Unlike music/vids/etc, you can redownload apps
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store

When you post in the Apple Discussion forums, you really need to post a summary of your issue in the Subject field. It is best if the Subject is very detailed with model & problem description. Otherwise most people will just ignore it. I certainly won't read posts that have subjects like "problem with iOS 4".

  • [Linker Error] Unresolved external 'niScope_init' referenced from C:\ALUNOS\ALLAN\EVA\BUILDER2.0B\UNIT1.OBJ

    Hi,
First of all I'm sorry about my English. I'm developing a software on Builder C++ by Borland and we bought an NI DAQ 5112 PCI. I'd like to know if is possible to use the high-level functions from niScope (such as niScope_init, _AutoSetup, _close...) on this plataform. I'm asking it 'cause I could run every "example program" on it whithout any problem. But when I try to use it on my own project the message below is shown: unresolved external "niScope_init" referenced from "path_of_my_project".
    thanks,
    Allan

Make sure you're linking to the niScope inport library.  I'm attaching the Borland import library from NI-SCOPE 2.9.1.
(These forums won't let me attach a .lib.  So download this file, and rename it "niScope.lib")

I purchased Telegraph for iPad but I do not have the app showing in my purchased folder. Can anyone tell me how to retrieve it. Thanks. Allan

What purchased folder are you talking about? You mean Newsstand? Did you read this and does it support Newsstand?
If a subscription app or publication does not appear in Newsstand, verify that the app supports the Newsstand feature.

  • Question for Mr. Allan Sampson

I view you as an Apple God. lol So hear I go...
The other day I performed a full restore on itunes. So while the restore was being done, I figured I'd go on a taco bell run instead of waiting for the phone to be done. To my suprise, when I got home, my brother told me he clicked restore "by accident". I'm sure it was "by accident". The phone was restored twice b/c this idiot messes around too much.
So my question is - can two restores within a 10 min (approx) time frame do any damage to the phone? Like putting too much stress on the hardware/software? Does the battery get hot (or warm for that matter) during a restore? And if there is heat, can that "wear" damage the battery?
    Help please.

    Found this on the net:
    Memory wear
Another limitation is that flash memory has a finite number of erase-write cycles. Most commercially available flash products are guaranteed to withstand around 100 000 write-erase-cycles (see citations under Endurance, below). The guaranteed cycle count may apply only to block zero (as is the case with TSOP NAND parts), or to all blocks (as in NOR). This effect is partially offset in some chip firmware or file system drivers by counting the writes and dynamically remapping blocks in order to spread write operations between sectors; this technique is called wear levelling. Another approach is to perform write verification and remapping to spare sectors in case of write failure, a technique called bad block management (BBM). For portable consumer devices, these wearout management techniques typically extend the life of the flash memory beyond the life of the device itself, and some data loss may be acceptable in these applications. For high reliability data storage, however, it is not advisable to use flash memory that has been through a large number of programming cycles. This limitation does not apply to 'read-only' applications such as thin clients and routers, which are only programmed once or at most a few times during their lifetime.
