ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE sbt

what are the scenarios that we have to use the below statement.
RMAN> ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE sbt;

first you have to understand why we allocate channel for rman..it crates a session to target database,To manually allocate a channel, which is a connection between RMAN and a database instance. Each connection initiates an Oracle server session on the target or auxiliary instance: this server session performs the work of backing up, restoring, or recovering backup sets and copies.
Restrictions and Usage of this command
Execute this command only at the RMAN prompt. This command cannot be used within a RUN block.
The target instance must be started.
Do not specify a channel ID.
You cannot allocate a maintenance channel to a shared session.
You cannot prefix ORA_ to a channel name. RMAN reserves channel names beginning with the ORA_ prefix for its own use.
Manually allocated channels (maintenance or normal channels) and automatic channels based on configured settings are never mixed. To perform maintenance on both disk and SBT simultaneously using manually allocated maintenance channels, you must allocate both SBT and DISK channels explicitly.
If you use ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE, then RMAN uses the following convention for channel naming: ORA_MAINT_devicetype_n, where devicetype refers to DISK or sbt and n refers to the channel number. For example, RMAN uses these names for two manually allocated disk channels:
ORA_MAINT_DISK_1
ORA_MAINT_DISK_2
You can allocate multiple maintenance channels for a single job, but you should only use this feature in these situations:
o
To allow crosschecking or deletion of all backup pieces or proxy copies, both on disk and tape, with a single command
o
To make crosschecking and deleting work correctly in an Oracle Real Application Clusters configuration in which each backup piece or proxy copy exists only on one node
here is some example of this command you should check this..
Deleting a Backup Set: Example This example deletes backup sets from tape created more than a week ago:
ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE sbt;
DELETE NOPROMPT BACKUP OF DATABASE COMPLETED BEFORE 'SYSDATE-7';
Crosschecking Archived Logs: Example This example crosschecks all archived logs on disk and tape. For disk, the preconfigured disk channel is used; for tape, an SBT channel is allocated manually. If the logs are not found, then RMAN marks them as EXPIRED in the repository:
ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE sbt;
CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
Crosschecking on Multiple Nodes of an Oracle Real Application Clusters Configuration: Example In this example, you perform a crosscheck of backups on two nodes of an Oracle Real Application Clusters configuration, where each node has access to a subset of backups. It is assumed here that all backups are accessible by at least one of the two nodes used in the crosscheck. Any backups not accessible from at least one of the nodes are marked EXPIRED after the crosscheck.
ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE DISK CONNECT 'SYS/change_on_install@inst1';
ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE DISK CONNECT 'SYS/change_on_install@inst2';
CROSSCHECK BACKUP;

  • Unable to allocate channel device type sbt

    Hi,
    This is my first post on this forum so please advice me if I do something stupid.
    This oracle instance is version: 11.2.0.1

    So, my problem is that I can't allocate sbt channel/device to crosscheck archivelogs.
    We are using Symantec's Backup Exec to manage your backups, and by looking it's log's (attached below) this should work. What I'am missing?

    P.S. Moved from General questions to RMAN

    im not familiar with Symantec's Backup Exec, but i think you are missing the SEND part in your manual allocation (which is present in the backup log)
    You can specify media management parameters in RMAN backup and restore jobs by the following means:
        Environment variables, which are specified with the ENV parameter of the PARMS option on the CONFIGURE or ALLOCATE CHANNEL commands
        The RMAN SEND command

  • Textbook download error message: "Document is not licensed for this device type"

    Hi everyone,
    I bought a textbook that came with a free digital edition. I downloaded it, then tried to load it into Digital Editions (which I registered to my account). The texbook almost finished importing, then at the very end gave me an error message that said "[The name of the book]: Document is not licensed for this device type." The textbook is published by Aspen Law. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.1 (Lion). Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a resolution?
    I've looked at other forum posts, and my situation seems remarkable like this one:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3098928#3098928
    I called the publishing company and tried to explain this to them, but they just said it was a problem with Adobe and Mac.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    OK - here's the issue.
    When I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions I authorized my computer with my Adobe Account - apparently I wasn't supposed to do that.  McGraw-Hill said that their file would ONLY work if the computer was not authorized with an Adobe Account (they should have said so after the order).
    So after de-authorizing the account (ctrl+shift+d) I tried to open up the .acsm file again and I got a new error: e_lic_already_fulfilled_by_another_user.  I'm afraid that the license was used up by Adobe Account, never mind that it actually never downloaded.
    I guess the next step is to try and get another license issued?

  • No liscense for the device type?

    So, my Digital Editions refuses to let me view my ebooks or download them.  Everytime I try
    something the "Document not liscensed for this device type" message pops up.
    Anyone know what this is all about and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

    I had the same problem with my Nook, but it was because when I first installed ADE, I didn't have an Adobe user name.  It installs ADE differently when you do that.
    So I dug around on the hard drive and found Adobe stuff all over the place, including not only user areas, but the system areas also.  Deleted every reference to ADE and the Adobe stuff I knew wouldn't affect my other Adobe products and restarted, re-installed ADE and then plugged in the Nook, and THEN started ADE.  It found the Nook and it works fine now.
    I don't know if this is the fix in your case.

  • Number Range for Maintenance Order Type

    Dear All,
    Please help me in regarding for Number range  Change in Maintenance Order Type.
    I have different types of maintenance order...such as PM01,PM02, PM03, PM04, PM05, PM06, PM07, PM08.
    and i have to assign number range different for all the maintenance order type. kindly help how can i assign the same separately.
    also in case of Notification types also.
    Early response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sushant

    Greetings Sushant,
    Firstly, maintain all the Order Types you want in SPRO.
    To maintain the number ranges, you will need to go to t-code OION. Then select "Maintain Groups (F6)" and create a group with a number range for each of the Order Types that you require.  Each will be a separate interval. Then place the cursor on the unassigned Order Type and select "Assign Element Group (F7)" Repeat for each Order Type.
    Notification number ranges are maintained in t-code IW20

    RMAN Channel is a communication pipeline between a RMAN executable and a target or auxiliary database.
    To manually allocate a Maintenance channel in preparation for issuing a CHANGE, DELETE,or CROSSCHECK command. Note that if you use CONFIGURE to set up automatic channels, then RMAN can use these automatic channels for maintenance operations; you do not have to manually allocate them.

  • Difference between parallelism and allocate channel

    Whats the difference between
    Rman> run{
    allocate channel c1 device type disk;
    allocate channel c2 device type disk;
    AND
    RMAN> configure channel device type disk parallelism 2;

    Channel:
    Each channel establishes a connection from the RMAN client to a target or auxiliary database instance by starting a server session on the instance. The server session performs the backup, restore, and recovery.
    PARALLELISM:
    Configures the device types that are eligible for use in jobs that use automatic channels and sets the degree of channel parallelism. The DISK device type is the default.
    The PARALLELISM parameter specifies the number of automatic channels of the specified device type allocated for RMAN jobs. RMAN always allocates the number of channels specified by PARALLELISM, although it may actually use only a subset of these channels.
    By default, PARALLELISM = 1. Specifying CLEAR for a device type resets its settings to the default. For example, you can set PARALLELISM for disk backups to 3. If you configure automatic channels of type disk and tape, and set the default device type as disk, then RMAN allocates three disk channels when you run BACKUP DATABASE at the RMAN prompt.
    To change the parallelism for a device type to n, run a new CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE ... PARALLELISM n command. For example, you can change configure PARALLELISM to 3 for sbt and then change it to 2 as follows:
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE sbt PARALLELISM 3;
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE sbt PARALLELISM 2;

  • Difference between RMAN Allocate channel and Configure Channel

    Hello Sir,
    It is a very small problem that the more I study about RMAN I get more confused that what is the difference between Allocate Channel and Configure Channel.
    The thing I understand is that first we allocate channel and then after we configure it for uses.
    Pl. anybody make me clear if it is wrong and please tell me the right theory.
    Thanks and regards

    Hi,
    As Already Aman and Hemant K Chitale .. described the difference..
    Let me put up one thing one thing Ahead... !!
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL takes the same options used to specify one-time options with the ALLOCATE CHANNEL command. You can configure generic channel settings for a device type, that is, a template that is used for any channels created based on configured settings for that device.
    Example :-
    Note that if you use CONFIGURE CHANNEL to specify generic channel settings for a device, any previous settings are discarded, even if the settings are not in conflict. For example, after the second CONFIGURE CHANNEL command, which specifies only the FORMAT for configured disk channels, the MAXPIECESIZE for the disk channel is returned to its default value:
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 2G;
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT /tmp/%U;
    If you manually allocate a channel during a job, then RMAN disregards any configured channel settings. For example, assume that the default device type is SBT, and you execute the following command:
    RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    BACKUP TABLESPACE users;
    Ever thing is in ORACLE Documentation.. . (Pick out the things....)

  • PRINTER TRAY CONTROL/SELECTION WITH SAPSCRIPT USING ZTROYMIC DEVICE TYPE

    We are printing checks using SAPscript in which we specify TRY02 for the overflow/invoice detail pages of  a check and TRY03 for the check itself, this is in order to use check stock only for actual checks and plain paper for the invoice detail pages.  As indicated above the device type to which we are printing is ZTROYMIC.  The device type was downloaded from note 94233, and is printing the MICR characters successfully however there was no Control Character Sequence provided for TRY03 in SPAD print controls.  The tray selection is not working correctly, I was given the following escape sequence, escape character & l 5 H, for TRY03 by TROY but not sure how to implement this in SPAD.  Should we pose this question directly to SAP?  Is tray selection supported for this device type?  If not how can we direct pages to correct tray otherwise?
    Your help is much appreciated,
    Doug

    1) In SPAD under the device types tab, enter your device type and hit display.
    2) click on Print Controls and scroll down you will see TRY01, TRY02, TRY03 and TRYMN.
    3) click on the edit icon and change the control character sequence that was provide for you. we

  • Best Adobe Captivate Screen Size for all Devices?

    Which would you say is the best screen size to use to cater for all device types (pc, laptop, tablet, mobile, etc.)?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
    You can select any moderate screen size and publish the course and on the publish dialog box, check "Scalable HTML content" (only in case of .swf, HTML5 and PDF).
    If you are not sure about which screen size to choose and you are creating a course for large audience for devices and systems of different resolution, then  800 X 600 is recommended.
    But now, with scalable HTML content checked, your course window will fit to the screen size of the device, and there will not be any scroll bar.
    Thanks.

  • Wrong Device Type Selected

    This is a partial fix when a wrong device type is selected in the network map, either by you or Network Magic. The first step here was NOT done by me, but by "mbroadfo". He did an excellent job on figuring this out. There is a quicker and easier way however, once you do mbroadfo's work. This was his post under "Network Map Issuses Solved!:
    09-22-201010:02 AM
    I have been trying to figure out how to resolve a couple of issue with the Network Map in Cisco Network Magic (I have version 5.5.9195.0). The problem is that the device names and types I established initially don't get updated correctly in the map when my DHCP server assigns a new IP address. Network Magic does not seem to recognize the device by the MAC address and seems to put too much stock in the IP address (which is strange as DHCP is prevalent on most networks).
    In order to re-initialize the network map, perform the following steps on ALL PC's running Network Magic:
    1) Do not de-install Network Magic (it's not necessary unless you want more work)
    2) Run: serveme.exe from "C:\Program Files\Pure Networks\Network Magic\Support\" (or wherever you installed Cisco Magic) - I created a shortcut so I can do this in the future without hunting around
    3) Find the System Tray icon for serveme (it's a green dot surrounded by a white box)
    4) Right click on the serveme icon and select:
    - Stop NmService (the first item)
    - Delete NetworkLib.xml
    5) Repeat on ALL PC's running Network Magic
    Once you have finished on ALL PC's, perform the following on each PC with Network Magic installed:
    1) Right click on the serveme icon in the System Tray and select:
    - Start NmService (the first item)
    - Force First Run (the eleventh item)
    - Exit ServeMe
    2) Double-Click on Network Magic icon on the System Tray
    3) Click the Link to restart the Network Magic Platform
    4) Go through the initial startup steps per the instructions in the User Guide
    5) Repeat on ALL PC's running Network Magic
    Hope this helps!
    Foot
    The one problem that I kept having, was on one laptop in particular. Once I got all other PC’s correct, this one followed in suit. (I guess I should mention briefly, there are always at a minimum, 5 laptops, 2 desktops, 2 network drives, 3 network cameras, 1 network printer and 3 game consoles listed on the network map. More if friends come over.) You can see my dilemma if one of my device types change. One step left out by mbroadfo, if you have multiple computers with Network Magic on them, only have ONE connected to the network with a complete map at a time. If anything changes to the device type, all of the computers will change their device type and you will have to start all over again.
    1. Leave all of your network devices turned on. Follow the steps above to disable Network Magic.
    2. On one computer, follow the steps above to get Network Magic running again. Once you have a full map of all of your correct devices displayed, proceed to step 3.
    3. Go to the following folder: C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform
    4. Copy this file: networklib.xml
    5. SAVE THIS FILE somewhere in a folder where you know where it is. You could rename the copy to something like network.xml.temp
    6. Go to the next computer, leaving the first PC running all the time on the network, and start Network Magic. Network Magic's network map should populate with the first PC's map. If anything changes, you can restore the xml file on the first PC. I'll explain this step later. Once the map is populated correctly, do the same thing on copying the "networklib.xml" file on the second PC, disconnect the second PC from the network or shut it down so its map cannot change. DO NOT copy the "networklib.xml" from the any PC to another thinking it is a short cut. Each "networklib.xml" file is specific to that PC. Move to the next PC and perform step 6 again until all PC's running Network Magic are done.
    7. Once all PC's are done, they can all be brought back online and life should be great.
    Now for the easier part. From this point on, if the map ever changes, simply exit Network Magic, open Task Manager and stop the nmsrvc, go to C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform and delete "networklib.xml", copy your saved version of that file back to this folder and restart Network Magic. I know that the initial setup takes a while, but it is easier in the end if anything changes. I use the map and shares to access my cameras and network drives and if one of those changes to any type of computer, you cannot change the device type back. The software needs to have the same type of selection for all device types as when the "Network Device" in the drop down's is selected. I have just spent hours trying to get all of my devices set back to normal. I hope this will help some of you from repeated frustration when something changes.

    Since I wrote the previous fix, I have had some other issues which forced me to correct several times, the Network Magic map. This was for the most part, letting other people have access to change the map. I have since put passwords in place to stop that. I have come up with a shorter way to do the fix that I suggested and found a possible flaw in the previous fix. I don’t know why or where this comes from, but on all of the computers that I have, NM has two different names for the process that runs. Two computers can both be 64 bit hardware and 64 bit OS and still have different process names. The following is what I am using now and works fine for me, but from what I am seeing no matter what software package, whether game or tool, each computer is so unique, the same problem may be on computers with two completely different fixes. Anyway, the following steps are what I am using now and works great on my systems. Hope maybe these steps will work on yours:
    1.       Goto each computer and do the following steps in order. Right click on the Network Magic icon in the notification area of the task bar and exit Network Magic. Next, open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. This is where NM uses two different names that I have seen: nmsrvc.exe or nmctxth.exe . Which ever process is running, end the process. Next, click on the Services tab. Scroll down until you find nmservice. Right click on nmservice and select Stop Service. Wait to make sure the Status column changes from Running to Stopped. It may take a few moments. If it does not stop or a message appears saying that the service cannot be stopped, click on the Services button at the bottom right corner. Scroll down on the Services window until you find Pure Networks Platform Service. Right click on the this and click on Stop. Again, wait until the status column changes from Started to Stopped. I have tried to just stop the service, but all of the steps above have to be done in order for this to work. This service is what communicates between this computer on all others running NM and tells them what is in the map. Leave this window open and proceed to step 2.
    2.       Go to C:\Users\All Users\Pure Networks\Platform folder. Delete the file networklib.xml on all computers.
    3.       Once step two is done, go back to the Services window and right click on Pure Networks Platform Service and click on Start. When the Status column changes back from Stopped to Started, click on your Network Magic icon to restart the program on one computer only. Watch to map to make sure it populates correctly. If not, you can simply delete the networklib.xml file at this point without having to stop the service again. The map should start over again from scratch. (John.h2h, see at the bottom of this for a possible area to look at for your issue.) Once the map is correct, goto the next computer and do step 3 again. If the map is correct, disconnect the second computer from the network and proceed on to the next computer. If it changes, you only have two computers maps affected and it is simpler to correct at this point. Once all computers have correct maps, bring all online and all should be great.
    4.       As I stated in the previous fix, make a copy of the networklib.xml file on at least on computer and use that one as your map base. If the map should go awry, you can replace the file after all of the other computers NM services have been stopped and the networklib.xml file has been deleted.
    This looks more complicated than it is and I hope this helps.
    John.h2h, two things that you may want to look at, I use a Brother laser printer for a network printer. The port address changed for whatever reason on my system. I had to open the printer properties on each computer and change the IP address to the correct one and the printer worked fine. Another place to look, and if this is the problem, Network Magic is only following rules. Do you have any DHCP address reserved in your router. I have assigned blockes of IP’s to the different types of hardware. Example, all desktops are assigned from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.109, laptops are from 110 to 129, cameras, network drives and printer are from 130 to 145, and game consoles are from 146 to 149. I know that Netgear has the ability to set these. If you do have it reserved, either delete this in your router or change it. If you reserve the address with the IP and Mac address that you want, make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
    Good luck, denpag

  • How to find useful MIBs for Cisco Devices?

    Hi,
    I am setting up a new Monitoring System (CA Netvoyant). It has some default Cisco monitoring capabilities ( I believe these are soem standard MIBs).  I am wondering how can I add more useful Cisco MIBs for the devices I have in my network. There are thousands of MIBs and it looks like it is not easy at all to find the useful ones.
    For example the MIBs that can give you Emergency and up to warning level information, cpu, memory, interface errors, module failures (in case of Cat 6500), FWSM, BGP, VPN tunnel status notifications. Is there a list of useful MIBs for each device type, like Cat 6500, ASA5540, Cat 3750-E etc depending on IOS Image?
    Any help in setting up the SNMP monitoring system would be really helpful.
    Thanks

    If there is a MIB for it, most SNMP Capable Management servers can poll them.
    This can be such as FHRP states, Routing Peers, ASA Failover status, Seriel numbers for inventory purposes.
    The potential is almost endless, it just depends what you should monitor to ensure you are in the know when your network hiccups.
