    I dunno what is this fuckin shared memoryThis fuckin shared memory is how oracle does interprocess communication. When you connect to Oracle, you have to connect to this area. If you tell it the wrong area, it won't find it. You can see the areas with the ipcs command on the server. Since you can connect locally, but can't connect remotely, there is something wrong with how you told Oracle to connect remotely. Remotely can be on the same host if you have an @ in the connect string.

    ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/

    Well I dunno what to do I didn't think getting a simple login locally over tcp/ip would be so difficult, I am afraid of what will happen after this will work :) As it should be one of the easiest things on oracle what about the hardest :)Well, first try removing the trailing slash from ORACLE_HOME everywhere, including if you have it in the listener.ora. Then compare the tnsnames.ora ORACLE_HOME with your environment ORACLE_HOME. In fact, if you have a listener.ora, try renaming it to something else and restarting the listener.
    That error is normally due to a bad ORACLE_HOME or ORACLE_SID. Since your tnsping works, that indicates the ORACLE_HOME is good. But all that tells you is that the listener responds. Other causes may be inadequate processes in init.ora or case issues with the sid, or just generally not following the installation instructions. But are there installation instructions for debian?
    With multiple databases on one host, some kernel parameters may need to be increased.

  • Question on use of shared memory objects during CIF executions

    We have a CIF that runs in background via program RIMODACT that is invoked from our external job scheduler.  (The schedulere kicks off a job - call it CIFJOB - and the first step of this job executes RIMODACT.)
    During the execution of RIMODACT, we call a BAdI (an implementation of SMOD_APOCF005.)
    In the method of this BAdI, we load some data into a shared memory object each time the BAdI is called. (We create this shared memory object the first time the BAdI is called.)
    After program RIMODACT finishes, the second step of CIFJOB calls a wrapper program that calls two APO BAPI's.
    Will the shared memory object be available to these BAPIs?
    Reason I'm asking is that the BAPIs execute on the APO app server, but the shared memory object was created in a CIF exit called from a program executing on the ECC server (RIMODACT).
    Edited by: David Halitsky on Feb 20, 2008 3:56 PM

    I know what you're saying, but it doesn't apply in this case (I think.)
    The critical point is that we can tie the batch job to one ECC app server.  In the first step of this job (the one that executes RIMODACT to do the CIF), we build the itab as an attribute of the "root" shared memory object class.
    In the second step of the batch job, we attach to the root class we built in the first step, extract some data from it, and pass these data to a BAPI that we call on the APO server.  (This is what I meant by a "true" RFC - the APO BAPI on the APO server is being called from a program on the ECC server.)
    So the APO BAPI never needs access to the ECC shared memory object - it gets its data passed in from a program on the ECC server that does have access to the shared memory object.
    Restated this way, is the solution correct ???

  • Satellite Pro L850 - i5 3210M shared memory allocation

    Hi,
    I'm a proud new owner of this excellent laptop and I've added extra RAM to take it to 8GB.
    All the spec sheets on retailer websites state that the gpu can be assigned up to 1.7GB of shared memory.
    Previous experience of other computers is that this memory amount is altered in the BIOS settings but I do not see any option in latest BIOS 1.60.
    Obviously theres' plenty of RAM to give to the GPU but I can't see how to assign it. Do the i5 chips allocate dynamically once Windows is running or is the BIOS missing this setting?
    Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi
    The shared memory is controlled by graphic card driver and this cannot be controlled manually if an running applications needs some shared memory, the driver would assign this value automatically.

  • Disp+work stop because of shared memory?

    Hello Gurus, I have an SAP server that will not start. It was running previously, but after a parameter update and an instance restart, I cannot get the dispatcher running.
    System is Windows 2012 Server, MSSQL 2008 R2, 16 Core 132 GB RAM.
    I believe it is related to shared memory overlapping somehow, but  I am not sure how to resolve or investigate. I have had issues previously with memory overlap halting SAP servers with Diagnostics Agents, but this server is not currently running any DAA. It is running SAPRouter and some SAP Web Dispatcher instances.
    I will include my trace files below:

    Hi Alwina, here is the DEV_ICM trace:
    From this trace, it appears that it is listening to 65000?
    Netstat shows that the system is listening to 127.0.0.1:65000 .
    Other SAP ports show listening on 0:0:0:0:xxxx , is ICM listening on 127 a problem?

    Is this your system ABAP+JAVA?
    As i'm too getting this problem in AS Java, R3trans -d does fail with RC-12.
    But all other my applications are running fine, So need to know the exact reason for same, so any help in this will be appreciated.

  • Solaris 10 shared memory config/ora 11g

    The ora 11 install guide for spark solaris 10 is very confusing wrt shared memory and my system does not seem to using memory correctly, lots of swapping on an 8GB real memory system.
    The doc says to set /etc/system to:
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmax project.max-shm-memory 4294967296
    but infers that this is not used.
    Then, the doc states to set a project shared mem value of 2GB:
    # projmod -sK "project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,2G,deny)" group.dba
    Why is this number different?
    By setting to to 2G as documented oracle did not work at all and so I found Note:429191.1
    on the solaris 10 memory which hints that these numbers should be big:
    % prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -r -v 24GB -i project oracle_dss
    % prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle_dss
    project: 101: oracle_dss
    NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 24.0GB - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny
    Is there some logic in how to get solaris 10/ora 11 to hold hands. The install doc does not seem to contain it.

    system does not seem to using memory correctly, lots of swapping on an 8GB real memory system.We could start (for example) with this question - How big is your SGA or how much of 8GB RAM takes your SGA?
    The doc says to set /etc/system to:
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmax project.max-shm-memory 4294967296
    but infers that this is not used.From documentation:
    In Solaris 10, you are not required to make changes to the /etc/system file to implement the System V IPC. Solaris 10 uses the resource control facility for its implementation. However, Oracle recommends that you set both resource control and /etc/system/ parameters. Operating system parameters not replaced by resource controls continue to affect performance and security on Solaris 10 systems.
    Then, the doc states to set a project shared mem value of 2GB:
    # projmod -sK "project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,2G,deny)" group.dba
    Why is this number different?It's an example how "To set the maximum shared memory size to 2 GB"
    By setting to to 2G as documented oracle did not work at all Docs says:
    On Solaris 10, verify that the kernel parameters shown in the following table are set to values greater than or equal to the recommended value shown.
    If your SGA was greater than 2G I'm nor wondering why "oracle did not work at all".
    So for 4GB SGA (for example) you need allow allocation of 4G of shared memory.
    Note: shmsys:shminfo_shmmax != project.max-shm-memory. "project.max-shm-memory" is replacement of "shmsys:shminfo_shmmax" but function of these parameters differs.
    "project.max-shm-memory resource control limits the total amount of shared memory of one project, whereas previously, the shmsys:shminfo_shmmax parameter limited the size of a single shared memory segment."

  • Shared memory in solaris 10 with oracle

    Hi, I am a newbie to solaris and i have some questions on shared memory, Oracle in Solaris
    My Questions might seem different, however please do read and try to answer. Thanks in advance.
    1) if a solaris server has say 40gb of Ram, what would be the maximum size of a shared memory segment in this machine?
    I know that if the server has 40GB. then max shared memory size is 10GB i.e. one fourth of ram, however not sure
    2) What is the maximum size of a shared memory segment in solaris that a root user can define.
    + i know that its some where near 14 GB not very sure +
    3) Assume i have created a user X and i allocated say 10GB limit for this user for shared memory.
    I login to solaris using X and now, can i increase the size of the shared memory that this user can use?
    I have a situation, where the root user, created a user named DBA and the root user allocated some 15gb for this DBA user as the max SHM limit.
    Now the DBA user has set the max limit for shared memory as 1TB, which is causing hell of problems in the system.
    * I am Not very sure on the concept. I am new to this product and facing this problem. please advice.*
    + Thanks +
    Krishnakanth (Simply KK)

    Not sure why your "oracle" user (owner who will be creating the instance) has been assigned the project user.root. I would say create a seperate project may be "dba" and give access to this project to the owner of the user who will be creating the oracle instance.
    and then try to issue the command:
    prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 8gb -r -i project dba
    and check to see if you are still facing a problem?

  • SAP installtion stopped - error cant create shared memory

    Dear All,
    Greetings!
    We are trying to install SAP ECC 6.0 IDES system on Windows 2003 x64 Server and DB2 9.1, during the process of installation - in the step of Start Instance. The sapinst Gives Up! the process since the enqueue server is found in stopped state when the instance tries to start up.
    I found the below given error message from the Developer Trace files of the enqueue server.

    To note - we had a virus attack on the server recently and an Anti-Virus tool was used to clean the server, after that I found most of the SAP folders in Read-Only mode.
    I suspect any causes of the same for the above mentioned ACCESS_DENIED error. Currently I have allocated 28GB of swap size, but the SAP instance is not able to create a shared memory from the same I hope.

    - How will I be able to enable the swap size of the server to be used by the SAP instance?
    - Is this the effect of the anti-virus or an aspect in windows server to change the folders and files to read-only after a virus attack?
    I have tried the possibilities of adding more shared memory, removing the shared memory and restarting the OS and assigning back the same, but these dint prove useful.
    Kindly help me with your suggestions.

    Hi,
    I would suggest you to go to run > services.msc
    now try to manually stop / start the SAP<SID>_<nr> services. are you able to start it properly? If you get error here, that means SAP services not able to start as it has permission problem.
    login with <sid>adm & reregister the service by running sapstartsrv.exe in <drive>:\usr\sap\SID\sys\exe. after you give the parameters and press ok, wait for sometime for the 'success' message.
    once its done, then start sap in MMC.

    SHARED MEMORY 문제(ORA-7329, ORA-7331, ORA-7279)
    ================================================
    PURPOSE
    다음은 shared memory 문제가 발생하는 경우(ora-7329,ora-7331,
    ora-7279) 에 대해서 알아본다.
    Explanation
    1. 왜 Problem 이 생기나?
    * Oracle 은 Process와 SGA(System Global Area) 간의
    Communication를 위해 Shared Memory와 Semaphore 를 사용한다.
    Oracle Instance 가 뜰 때 SGA를 Create하기 위해 Main Memory의
    임의의 부분을 할당하는데 이 때 Shared Memory 나 Semaphore 가
    적절하지 않으면 이에 관련한 Error가 발생한다.
    2. 해결 방안
    SGA는 Shared Memory 안에 생기므로 Shared Memory 는 각 Process에게
    사용 가능해야 한다.
    Shared memory 와 Semaphore parameter 는
    - SHMMAX = 1개의 shared memory segment 의 maximum size,
    SGA 크기 이상
    - SHMMIN = 1개의 shared memory segment 의 minimum size, 1 byte
    - SHMMNI = shared memory identifier의 숫자, 100 이상
    - SHMSEG = 1개의 process에 attach되는 shared memory segment의
    maximum 갯수, 10 이상
    - SEMMNS = system의 semaphore 갯수, 200 이상
    - SEMMNI = 시스템에서 identifier를 setting하는 semaphore 수,
    70 이상
    - SEMMSL = semaphore set 당 최대 semaphore 갯수,

  • ECC slow,its urgent

    Hi all
    I have ECC 6.0 im ny landscape.I have installed develoment and quality servers on one server of hp which is having 4 gb of ram.my os is HP-UX.now i am facing performance issue,system is very slow and i feel that since both development and quality instances are on one server that is why?
    when i see in st02,there are many reds in swaps namely
    program buffer and CUA.
    the size of program buffer is 350 mb and CUA is 300 kb on both development and quality servers.Please help me as it is urgent
    Regards
    Praveen

    OK, you have 4GB of RAM
    If your DB is 500MB it will be slow but not deadly, as you are not MCOD that mean 2 x 500MB DB's.
    Equally if you set your shared mempory in each system to be say 800MB in total, you will get it a little slow but OK.
    Add 700MB for the OS and you now are using 2.5 GB
    Having 2 GW's , 2 ICM's and 2 Dispatchers as well as say 10 WP per instance will give say 1.2 GB of memory and so you are up to 3.7 GB of memory IF you have sized your systems as I suggest... this is without any extended memory and to be honest if ytou have only a few users on these well tuned systems for the memory then you will be over 4GB.
    What your problem is likely to be is that you have over allocated in the shared memory and databse areas and I would do the opposite of what everyone else is suggesting and look at dropping the DB sizes and the shared memory sizes.... to be honest though, is far easier and not that expensive to double up on RAM to 8GB and at least have a chance of running as what I have suggested fo rthe best use of 4GB is stoll going to make your system poerform fairly poorly

    : Best regards,
    : Ari
    I have a setup similar to yours (384 MB instead of 512 MB),
    and I spent some time looking at the parameters.
    You CANNOT use the value for SHMMAX from the Oracle manual!
    As it says at http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/oralinux.html
    "Should you decided to change these parameters, if you set
    the SHMMAX to what Oracle says, you are telling the system
    to allow a shared memory segment to grow as large as 4 Gigs.
    Many users have reported problems setting the value this
    high."
    Sounds like you are another one of those users, eh?
    If you read on down, the guy who wrote that web page never
    used over 128 MB for SHMMAX. I'd take a strong hint from that.
    =====
    Oracle wants you to use 4GB-1 as the SHMMAX value. That
    equates to (1<<32)-1. As we shall see, that is not allowed
    without "breaking the rules" for the i386 architecture.
    If you carefully read through the header file, you will find
    out that the **actual maximum value** for SHMMAX is 256 MB.
    You can tell this two ways. Take a look at the file at:
    /usr/src/linux/include/asm/shmparam.h
    Near the top of the file is:
    /* address range for shared memory attaches if
    no address passed to shmat() */
    #define SHM_RANGE_START 0x50000000
    #define SHM_RANGE_END 0x60000000
    Note that the above is 256 MB (0x10000000), or (1<<28). This
    is one potential source of trouble. I don't know if some other
    files someplace else in the kernel specify uses for address
    ranges adjacent to the above range, which I take to be the
    "practical maximum" without redefining that range. Personally,
    I wouldn't want to mess with the above unless I **really**
    knew what I was doing (and I'll be the first to admit I don't).
    =====
    Farther down you will see some more lines (not together)
    that look like this:
    #define SHMID_BITS 7
    #define SHMIDX_BITS 15
    * SHMID_BITS + SHMIDX_BITS must be <= 24 on the i386 and
    * SHMMAX <= (PAGE_SIZE << SHMIDX_BITS).
    #define SHMMAX 0x2000000 /* max shared seg
    size (bytes) */
    Now, 7 + 15 is 22, so you could go up a couple of bits if you
    had to. To avoid making the table any larger, I would suggest:
    #define SHMIDX_BITS 17
    But, 17 turns out to produce a result larger than the "practical
    maximum" (256 MB) above. To see why takes a little more
    explaining.
    If you don't change this at all, then the maximum possible
    value for SHMMAX is 4096 [the PAGE_SIZE) << 15 [_SHM_IDX_BITS],
    or rather (1<<27).
    Now, that is exactly half of the (1<<28) "practical maximum" I
    mentioned above.
    So, if you always want the maximum amount of shared memory,
    then change the definition of SHMMAX to the following:
    #define SHMMAX (PAGE_SIZE<<_SHM_IDX_BITS) /* max shared seg
    size (bytes) */
    That gives you 128 MB in and of itself (as compared with 32 MB
    as Red Hat 5.2 is delivered).
    If you want the full 256 MB that is allowed for in the memory
    map, then you need to also change:
    #define SHMIDX_BITS 16
    The above value is **exactly** what is recommended on the web
    page you were following (above).
    If you want to keep going up, you will need to change the
    memory space allocated for shared memory as defined by
    SHM_RANGE_START and SHM_RANGE_END, something I advise against.
    =====
    Even on a machine with 512 MB of "real" memory, I find it hard
    to believe that there would be any substantial benefit to
    having a maximum shared memory space greater than 256 MB. The
    reason is that Oracle can use multiple shared memory spaces.
    It requires a minimum of ten (10), according to the installation
    manual, but the Red Hat 5.2 distribution supplies SHMMNI (128)
    of them. That will allow each Oracle process to have a total
    of up to 32 GB of shared memory (128 times 256 MB) and all it
    asks for is 40 GB (10 times 4 GB), so it has plenty, IMHO.
    =====
    Let me say a few more words about the web page you were using
    for configuration advice. That person actually **reduced** the
    amount of shared memory segments by specifying **lower values**
    for SHMMNI and SHMSEG.
    I'd **STRONGLY** recommend **NOT CHANGING** those other values!
    Its my understanding that Oracle can make up for the smaller
    maximum shared memory segment size by using more shared memory
    segments. So, if you reduce those, you are essentially shooting
    yourself in the foot by taking away what you are giving with
    increasing the maximum segment size.
    =====
    Good luck, and may this farce be with you!
