Allocation of available memory

How can I find which apps/documents/photos are utilizing my available memory?
iPad3 with iOS7.1

Out of curiosity, why do you want to know? Are you experiencing some problem?
In answer to your question, there is no facility (that I am aware of) to display current memory usage.

  • Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues

    Hi all
I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
    The error messages are :
"Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.
    Cheers
    Neil Hughes

Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.

  • Sap server uses PF usage and not taking up the available memory

    good day basis experts,
I have 16BG of total physical memory on my server. I set parameter phys_memsize to 8192 to allot the rest for my database. but it seems the server eats up PF usage instead. It eats up upto 18.3 BG and I still have 11GB available memory. I wanted my server to consume the available memory instead of PF usage. How can I do that? Should I increase phys_memsize parameter?
I know I should try this for me to know the ans but the issue is on our PRD so i cant just do resets.
    Thank you for your help

    Hi,
but it seems the server eats up PF usage instead. It eats up upto 18.3 BG and I still have 11GB available memory.
That's the way the SAP memory management system is designed. This behaviour is perfectly normal.
At start up a lot of shared memory is allocated directly in the PF.
By the way, in my opinion you have allocated too much memory for the DB and not enough for SAP.
On a 16Gb server, I usually allocate 4 GB for the database (PHYS_MEMSIZE = 11 GB) at the beginning. Then I tune the system depending from its use and load.

    Olivier

  • My iPad is double downloading iTunes TV series shows and when I delete, the extra show does not delete from the available memory.  I have lost almost 30GB of my 64 to this phantom shows.

I am losing available memory on my iPad (64 GB 3rd gen) and it appears to lose memory because some TV shows that I have downloaded from iTunes are appearing twice in my downloads.  Both download, but when Only appear as 1 show on my "videos".  After viewing the show, I delete, but the duplicate show appears to be still there somewhere (not visible anywhere) taking up the same amount of memory that showed before downloading.  It reduces my available memory to download other shows.  The general settings do not show any of these phantom shows taking any memory, but the total available is much, much less than what is showing for all usage such as music, videos, photos, apps, etc
Is it possible to delete a show from the download portion of iTunes if you have already seen a show and do not want to waste time or memory downloading again?  The only way that I know is to let it download completely and the delete from "Videos".

John0618. Did you ever get a response or solution to problem?  I have the same problem (starting about three months ago).

  • I regularly have 15 MB of Available Memory - Should I upgrade or is there an issue I should solve first? EtreCheck report pasted below

    Hello,
My MacBook is running super slow. I downloaded Memory Clean from the App Store and I regularly have 15MB or free memory available.
In Activity Monitor I usually see the following:
    ~800 MB kernel_task
    ~500 MB softwareupdated
    ~500 MB Image Capture Extension
    In Console, I see mdworker.bundle errors attributed to UID's: 501, 503, 1422
My current UID from what I can tell is 502. Other UID's left over from various upgrades are 89, 99, 235.
Lastly, Drive Genius is giving me a Drive Integrity Warning. But I can't create a bootable clone.
I have no idea if the above problems are related. I'd like to think I just run a lot of stuff that eats my memory and upgrading the RAM would be the easy path. What say you all?

  • Issue with turning on project 2010 / 2013 - "There is not enough memory to complete the operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again."

I get the following error after the installation and configuration window of MS Project: "There is not enough memory to complete the operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again."
It happens both with MS Project 2010 and 2013 on a Windows 7 desktop.
I tried installing / uninstalling Office 2010, MS Project, tried installing 32 and then 64 bit versions, clean up, disk error checker, startup changes (msconfig), anti virus, running as Windows 7 and then Windows XP compatible mode.
Nothing helps. I see this issue reported as early as 2007 version of MS projects on Microsoft forums, but I do not see any solution anywhere. Any suggestions on how to fix the issue without having to reformat hard drive? Every other application, including
all other Office programs work seamlessly.
I also tried Microsoft support, after an hour and a half of basically doing what I did before, I was told I have to pay 99$ for "premium" support, so someone can look at this bug.
I have 16 Gb RAM and more than 200Gb or hard drive free, so actual memory is not the problem.

This issue was originally reported with MS Project 2007 and keeps popping up since.
A quick Google search provides more than 200K pages of results of this issue:
    https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=There+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+To+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren't+using%2C+and+then+try+again.
    And 193K results on Bing:
    http://www.bing.com/search?q=There+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+To+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren%27t+using%2C+and+then+try+again.&go=Submit&qs=n&form=QBLH&pq=there+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+to+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren%27t+using%2C+and+then+try+again.&sc=0-0&sp=-1&sk=&cvid=4cb023c1fbd94ec2bba9821b095f21f2
Computer was defragged already. I run more tests, and specifically when MS Projects tries to run, it tries to take all memory, more than 300Gb, on the computer. (DropBox was running at the same time, and warned that there were no space. As soon as MS Project
stopped attempting to configure itself, everything came back to normal and the available space became available again.)
Looking through older forum posts, looks like this application tries to take "unlimited" amount of memory. Some registry fixes are mentioned potentially, but I was not able to apply them.
Since everything else works, this is a MS Project bug reported by multiple users on various versions of Windows, including Vista and 7, so please provide a fix and not 'not a know bug' lie. All the premium support will say, is to format the hard drive, unless
they have a patch or a registry edit solution. If the latter is true, since the issue exists for multiple years, it should have been already been provided to users.
Also, I am not running a SQL server, or any server, this is an installation on a local machine.

  • Will Installing more RAM improve performance, IF laptop has "available memory" not being used?

My laptop has 2x 1GB of RAM.
Right now, and usually, The Physical Memory shown in Task Manager, shows that there is "available memory" (currently it's 500megs worth). (And "system cache" says 300megs.)
There is also, right now, 2.5GB of page filing being used.
If I were to replace the 2GB of RAM with 4GB (of the same Mhz), would there be a noticable increase in performance?
    (windows XP 32bit OS)

A matched set of DDR2 ram will perform a lot faster one memory not matched. Its required for the double data rate to work. Hence 2+2 is the max you'd need/want in a 32bit machine. Windows 7 was built for large memory footprints. XP was built to run just barely in 64MB but really needed a min of 128MB to support a network connection and printing. It was never enable to truely go a whole lot further than a few machines built capable of 1GB. There was even a bug which was patch causing problems if a !GB or more was available. Just because it can see it does not mean it actually uses it !! The kernal by default is swapped in/out of ram even in larger memory systems. Why, it was is not aware of the extra memory and does not change its behavour from a 512MB machine.
As for the 1333Mhz ram the timing may be faster than the other memory used. Hence it flow the data faster on the bus. Fewer delays in various cycles including the RAS/CAS etc but thats all under the hood so to speak.

  • Query is allocating too large memory

I’m building an Analysis in OBIEE against an ASO cube and am seeing the following error:
Query is allocating too large memory ( > 4GB) and cannot be executed. Query allocation exceeds allocation limits
The report we’re trying to build is intended to show information from eight dimensions. However, when I try to add just a few of the dimensions we get the “Query is allocating too large memory” error. Even if I filter down the information so that I only have 1 or 2 rows in the Analysis I get the error. It seems like there is something wrong that is causing our queries to become so bloated. We're using OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0.
    Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like a known Bug 13331507 : RFA - DEBUGGING 'QUERY IS ALLOCATING TOO LARGE MEMORY ( > 4GB)' FROM ESSBASE.
    Cause:
A filter has been added in several lines in the 'Data Filters' Tab of the 'Users Permissions' Screen in the Administration Tool (click on Manage and then Identity menu items). This caused the MDX Filter statement to be added several times to the MDX issues to the underlying Database, which in turn caused too much memory to be used in processing the request.

  • Query is allocating too large memory Error ( 4GB) in Essbase 11.1.2

    Hi All,
Currently we are preparing dashboards in OBIEE from the Hyperion Essbase ASO (11.1.2) Cubes. When are trying to retrieve data with more attributes we are facing the below error
"Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Error Details
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 96002] Essbase Error: Internal error: Query is allocating too large memory ( > 4GB) and cannot be executed. Query allocation exceeds allocation limits. (HY000)"
Currently we have data file size less than 2GB so we are using "Pending Cache Size=64MB".
Please let me know which memory I have to increase to resolve this issue
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Do you have any dynamic hierarchies? What is the size of the data set?

  • Excite 10 dribbling Away Available Memory

I have an Excite 10  16gb Tablet.  It loses available memory with every use, even if wifi & bluetooth were Off.  Several hundred megabytes become unusable with each use, even when NO apps are added, data in form of pictures, videos or documents are created or stored.  The sum total of the files and apps using "Storage" in Settings is about 2.7 gb.  It says Total space is 12.56gb.  but says only .93 gb is Available  EVEN THOUGH the bar graph shows about 3/4's of the space is available.(This shows about 9 gb free, but the tab data below says .93 gb or 930 mb)  and tabulated numbers for the external  SD card all agree. I've watched this available memory steadily decrease especially once it went below 7.0 gb.   It's the internal memory (SD Card) that's screwed up.  I've gone through this cycle once already.  It eventually will go down to only a 100 or so mb available and basically stop working.  I factory reset.  Reloaded apps and transfered Some data back on to the device and carefully tracked my internal storage with both the Andorid Settings and "File Expert HD"--a 3rd party file manager. For every app installed, and every picture taken or stored, every document created, etc.    It's like the device uses memory for temp storage/stystem uses but never releases it when it's finished.
ICS 4.0.3  (as received from factory)  AT300 (from Settings/About Tablet Model Number  BUT BOX  Tag says AT305,  Box and internal serial numbers agree)
Kernal and Build number available if needed fromSettings/Device/About Tablet
I understand Apps store Data and have caches.  Using Settings/Apps and adding the data for EVERY APP I am still WAY UNDEr 3 gb  of Apps, App Data AND CACHES, and user Data (files, pictures, videos, music, yada yada)

  • ILife & iWork '08 Install caused dramatic loss of available memory...

I just installed both iLife & iWork '08 on my MacBook Pro laptop. It had approx. 24GB of available memory. After the installation I now have 2.51 GB of memory. I'm also now seeing "Your startup disk is full" error messages. What gives?

    Hi Don Wise;
You have overfilled your disk. With the free disk space as low as you now have you are leaving yourself open to poor performance and file corruption. I would start looking at moving files off of the disk to free up space.
You can download WhatSize to help you find out where the disk space is being used.
When you get some more free disk space you should boot from the install media and repair your disk. If you don't do that you will be leaving yourself open to strange problems in the future due to file corruption.

  • Smart paging Question , What happen if i don't enable smart paging and available Memory is about 1GB and the VM need 3GB for Booting ?

    Hi ,
I configure a dynamic memory With 512 MB for a VM , and available memory 1GB
what happen when I boot the VM , While it actually need 3GB for booting - Note I don't configure Smart Paging ?
    Thanks.

You won't be able to boot at all.
pagefile and dynamic memory only comes into play when you don't have enough memory on the host, to support the 'startup RAM' on the VM, and when the VM does a
