Allow a simple obdc connection without Reader Extensions

I have this requirement, and so it seems to others on the LS forums.
I have no server and need to distribute information to Adobe Reader users of a form. The information benefits from some manipulation (sorting), and may be updated frequently. One easy way to maintain the data is using XL. When the data needs to be sent to the user community its simple to attach it to an email.
My form, created with LS uses this variable information as a 'database' to populate default values into the form, think names, addresses, and phones. The Reader user doesn't update the database, though they could by using XL.
Today I can't tie the form to the XL data easily. While I appreciate the security issues I'd request some completely 'local' solution to an LS data connection, one that could run on a single PC.

Thanks for a quick response.
In Acrobat *8 or 9 Professional you can enable a form to be activated with the save feature.
How do you do this.  When I saved the form without distributing it, and opened the form up in Acrobat Reader, the header said specifically that the data could not be saved in the form.  And when I went to save it, I got the message in a popup that said "Data in this form will not be saved. Reader can only save a blank copy of this form."  Then a second message (with a light bulb) said:  "Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records."
So, if in fact I can have the form (without "distributing" it) so that the user can save the form with the data, how do I do that?  Are there commands I use, options?  Please let me know.  I will be eternally grateful.
Also, if you edit form fields, you may remove the submit button.
The edit form fields does not offer any access to the submit button.
Best,
Barbara

  • How to allow attachments on forms saved with Reader Extensions?

I have a Livecycle developed form that includes action builder buttons to attach other documents.  When I re-save the form with 'Reader Extensions', the attach buttons no longer work.  Is there a way to allow this functionality?  How?
    Thanks.

Of course. This facility is only available with Reader extension server.  You need to apply reader Extension permissions for the form and specifically , you need to add Embedded File Attachments reader extension.

  • No way attaching files to a form without Reader Extension Server?

    Dear all,
do I understand this right? There is no way to create a form to which attachments can be added using Acrobat Reader unless the form has been reader extended to do so with Reader Extension Server?
If there are any possibilities I would be very thankful for any hint.
Thanks for checking this thread and any answers

Yes you got it right. There are no exceptions or workarounds for this.

  • Flashing "Allow or Deny Incoming Connections" even though it is allowed

I have chronic problems with getting the message "Do you want to allow or deny incoming connections" even though the application is allowed in the Security Preference Pane (Pain?). I had Apple investigating this and apparently they have given up. The message flashed up and quickly disappears. I have to wait for it to reappear and quickly click on it. It happens every time I use an Adobe application (CS4) but happens with other applications also.
This has occurred in this Mac since I have owned it over a year.
I have gotten so I want to wreck this and go back to reliable 10.4.
I have tried trashing the prefs for this control panel over and over again with no solution.
How can I give up and just allow all applications to allow all incoming connections. I would rather work this way, but with the Firewall up, then turn the Firewall off.
I am about ready to give up on the Mac and I have been a faithful user since 1998.

OK, I entered "Flashing Allow or Deny Incoming Connections" without the quotes into Google. I got 156,000 results. The first six were about the Mac about this problem. Several are from this discussion group.
By the time I get to the bottom of the first page, the discussion is about Adobe Flash and has nothing to do with this problem of the warning flashing onto the screen and then disappearing.
By the time I get to page 3, it is all about how to setup the Firewall.
This does not help me, or the others that are suffering from this amazingly annoying issue. I just cannot tell how widespread it is.
Lets just post it on the Apple Bug list and see if we can get their attention.

Ah, this is the first mention you have made of an Adobe product. Now,
LiveCycle Designer does not open in a browser, so I assume you are
    doing one of these
    * Opening Acrobat in a browser
    * Opening Adobe Reader in a browser
    * Opening a preview in Designer
    * Something else?
If you can describe in detail what you are doing with Adobe products
it may help to focus. HOWEVER, you have added to message topics which
seem to have NOTHING to do with your question. Does your question
connect to "Reader Extensions ES in Command Prompt" in some way that
isn't clear? If not, please post ONE new message with a suitable title
in the specific forum for the Adobe product involved. Thanks and good

  • Error connecting to WS with Adobe Reader with Reader Extension server

    Hi all!
I'm using a form designed with Designer with Reader Extension. This form
connects to a ws in order
With Acrobat and the Acrobat Reader under 7.0.5 it's all OK, but another
user with Acrobat or Adobe Reader 7.0.8 received an error message when
trying to connect to the WS.
The error says that there was a problem reading the file and specified the

I remember that for some reasons, after 7.0.5 you've to certified the
document, but I can't certify a PDF form created with Designer :(
    Anyone can help?

  • Firewall in set access mode let "allow incoming connections" without me

I have set up my firewall to allow incoming connections for a file sharing client under "Set Access for specific services and applications", and I noticed that Skype, iChatagent, and Safari all included themselves to be set under allow as well a week later. I did not enter this in manually. How did this occur?

I am quite befuddled by the 10.5 firewall. Maybe I'm thinking too much, but I've read all the documents I could get a hold of, and I still find it confusing and often conflicting in the specifics.
For starters, there is the cryptic remark of ""Mac OS X normally determines which programs are allowed incoming connections. Select this option if you want to allow or block incoming connections for specific program." Presumedly the "option" it is referring to is the "Set access for specific services..." option, which implies that the "normally determines" circumstance refers to the first two options. But, "Allow all incoming connections" supposedly allows everything, and "Allow only essential services" supposedly blocks everything (except for two or three things). Where in either of these cases would OS X be "determining" anything, and if it does, what criteria is it using?
The next thing I don't understand: when the option is set to "Set access for specific services", which applications does OS X explicitly ask permissions for? It seems that it since the firewall is only blocking incoming connections, it should only ask for applications that look like they want to accept incoming connections (i.e., server applications). But for me, it asks for permission for applications like Cyberduck (ftp app), and Microsoft Word 2004. In addition, the poster above mentioned Safari made it onto the list. To me, neither Cyberduck nor Safari should matter, since they are both purely client applications that only receive incoming data when it is requested by them, no? And what business does Word have in wanting to accept incoming connections? (maybe this is a question for Microsoft, not Apple).
Well, I have a list of other questions about half a page long, but if anyone can help with those two, it would be a big help.

    Hello,
When I try to send file from Reader as email it is attached without .pdf extension.
What could be a cause of this problem?
    TIA.

Hello I got more info about this strange scenario. This happens when our user want to send a pdf file embedded on www page. Web application uses this control to display pdf files: Winnovative PDF Viewer Controls for ASP.NET and Windows Forms
It is strange that when I try on my computer I will get file name with pdf extension, but people in different location get it without .pdf extension. I have no idea what happened, and now I am not sure if it is problem with Reader.

  • Time capsule won`t allow multiple devices to connect to the internet

I`ve got a 2TB time capsule that worked fine.
I moved to this condo where the is already a wired internet service available to each apartment. The access is made through a login and password whenever You open you browser, if connected directly on the WAN cable. No multiple logs are allowed.
When I used my Time Capsule to create a wi-fi network and serve as a router I could access the internet on my MacBook over the wi-fi just created. No problem at all. But whenever I try to log other devices (iphone, apple tv) it asks for my ap login and password, and of course it states that there`s already an active connection to that user and won`t grant me access.
I`ve then borrowed a tp-lynk router from a friend of mine, created a wi-fi network (without the time capsule on it), it asked for the log in and all but then everything worked fine and I could use all my devices through this network.
Back to the time capsule, I`ve tried different settings. First one was bridge mode, but it didn`t work. Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.
    Also I`ve tried this solution https://www.autoitconsulting.com/site/networking/configuring-an-airport-extreme- for-nat-only-mode/
    but it would`t work either.
My guess is that somehow Time Capsule is attributing different IP addresses to each device that enters the Wi-Fi network, and that`s the reason I can`t access the net, since the service provider won`t allow more than one connection. On the other hand TP-Lynk was able to connect to the internet service through one IP address and then connect to other devices.
Any idea on how to solve this issue?

Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.
If you got the TC working and had double NAT .. sorry but the TP-Link is exactly the same.. you cannot distribute a single IP without double NAT.. the TC tells you it is a problem.. the TP-Link doesn't.. otherwise there is no difference.
But it is important the double NAT is setup right.. ie you must use different ranges.. please tell us the IP you get from a directly connected computer..
If it is 10.x.x.x then you should move the TC to 192.168. rather than default IP of 10.0.1.1 .. the TP-Link already will use 192.168.x.x. which might also explain why it works better.

  • How to use single ant build to package with and without native extensions

    Hi,
I am using iOS native extensions for Adobe air. For this I am listing the extensionid in the application descriptor file. Since the package with native extensions are meant to run only on device, I want my build script to work without native extensions too to be able to run on simulator. Is this manadatory that I need two separate application descriptors/basically two build scripts to compile and package them? Please suggest and let me know if more explanation is needed.
    Thanks,
    Swathi.

why are you wanting to use single frames?
They allow having the initial frame address stay in the
    address bar, and not
show the linked page's address. The problems they cause
    usually override any
    value.
Or- if we aren't using the same words the same way, please
    give an example
site of what you want to do.

  • Allow a simple form with "data" to be saved by the user.

Back in version -x, it used to be so simple.  You created a form that could be read in a web browser.  Users could could fill out the form and save the form to their computers with their data.  Since that first version that allowed that, Acrobat has not progressed in logical fashion.  In a later version, you couldn't save the data.  Then in another version, you could again save the data.  Now you have some nice interactive features. I appreciate the new developments and see where they could be a godsend.  However, the simple thing that I used to be able to do in version -x, and the thing I most want to do,  I can no longer do and it is frustrating.
Here's the situation:  we have an announcement on the web for Vacation Bible School.  We want to have a pdf with a form that people can fill out online and save to their disk (as their copy of the registration form) and then print out one copy of the form so that they can send it along with their check for the registration fee.  Why should that be so difficult?
If it weren't for the fact that people have to send in checks, one of the fancy new options would work.  But it is not applicable in this situation.
    Here are my current options:
I can "distribute" an emailable form (which I don't want to do) and then explain to the user that they should not hit the "submit" button but save the file to their disk.  (First rule of public relations - Don't confuse the public!)  It works in the last version of REader 8+ and in Reader 9.
I can save the form without distributing it. But the user can't save it with the data!
Please, PLEASE, PLEASE.  Allow a simple form with "data" to be saved by the user.
    Peace and blessings

  • Extending a document in Adobe Acrobat if you have purchased and own LiveCycle Reader Extensions

I work for an organization that has purchased adobe livcycle designer suite which includes Livecycle reader extensions. However we do not really have a need (besides perhaps per the EULA), nor the technical support to extend reader documents using the server based LiveCycle Reader extensions. We will definitly be collecting info from over 500 receipients so per the adobe acrobat license agreement:
16.8.3 For any unique Extended Document, Customer may only (a) Deploy that Extended Document to an unlimited number of recipients, but Customer shall not extract data from more than five hundred (500) instances of such Extended Document (or any hardcopy representation of that Extended Document) that contains data from a recipient; or (b) Deploy an Extended Document to no more than five hundred (500) recipients without limits on the number of times Customer may extract data from a recipient from that Extended Document. Obtaining additional licenses to use Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, or Adobe Acrobat Suite shall not increase
the foregoing limits (that is, the foregoing limits are the aggregate total limits regardless of how many additional licenses to use Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, or Adobe Acrobat Suite the Customer may have obtained). For the avoidance of doubt, if Customer purchases another Adobe product or service that allows Customer to send a greater number of PDF files or forms (e.g. Adobe FormsCentral or Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions), then the terms of that Adobe product or service shall supersede the terms of this Section 16.8.3
Given the very last sentence, it sounds me like since my organization has provided me with a copy of LiveCycle Reader extensions I can extend the adobe document using adobe acrobat if I wish, and still be within the terms of the EULA, is this the correct interpretation? I would prefer not to actually use the LiveCycle reader extensions as once again we do not have the technical support, nor the need for this server based solutions.

    Hi Ben,
Thank you for providing the detailed description of the problem.
The contents of the password-protected PDF document are encrypted (so that nobody can read the contents until the correct password is entered).
Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) have the known limitation where changes cannot be saved to encrypted PDF documents.  Therefore, users are not able to make any changes (e.g. adding comments/annotations or filling out forms) to encrypted PDF documents.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • What matter with a pdf  with Reader Extensions when it's open with Acrobat profesional?

    Hi all
I'm trying to learn about the functionality of LC using Tour de LiveCycle. It is an exceptional documentation!
I'm taked the 2 examples about reader extensions functionnality:
    PurchaseOrderExtended.pdf and PurchaseOrder.pdf
I've open PurchaseOrder.pdf with acrobat profesional and...I could insert comments, save as, signed the pdf...
Opening it with  Acrobat Reader this is not possible
    Then
If the company decide to produce a PDF with the "1, 2, 3" funcionalities of reader extensions but not enabling the "4 and 5" funcionalities.....
Someone that opens this PDF with acrobat profesional has the "1,2,3,4 and 5" functionalities available
    Then
The  functionality strategy of the company based on the pdf it's not operative!
    Where is the mistake?
    TIA

There are two possible philosophies for Reader Extensions:
    1) That it is a scheme to limit the the actions that one can take on a PDF; think of this as a sort of a security profile operation
    2) To provide PDF-based access to capabilities on the PDF without having to buy the full Acrobat Standard/Pro.
Reader Extensions is much more model 2 than model 1.  The goal is to allow people to save filled-in forms, sign pdf or comment on the pdf without having to have the full Acrobat std/pro licensed for their desktop.  So two other things derive from this:
    a) That people who have the full Acrobat version should be able to do anything to the file that they desire
    b) But also that they should be aware of actions that they might take on the PDF that would change the file so substantially that it would lose its rights and the ability of downstream Reader users to act on the file.
This (2, and then a and b) is the basic philosophy of Reader Extensions and Acrobat.

  • Trying to understand this whole Reader Extension product

    Hello,
I'm trying to get a handle on how this whole extensions thing works. We're using LifeCycle Designer 7 to generate forms (both and xdp and pdf). We want our users to be able to access data from ODBC connections and potentially from WSDLs. Our clients (right now) only use the free Reader 7.0.x.
It's my understanding that the pdf in this case needs to be 'extended' in this case. So say we purchase an Extension for this form for $x. Is this a valid scenario.
Pdf/xdp is generated. The pdf is 'sent' to an Extension server for some sort of encryption that the free Reader understands and thus enables the data access capabilities. Then the user is free to use this form and it's data access capabilities in perpetuity. Basically it's a one time fee for that one form.
    If this is true, then...
Where is this Extension Server that encypts the form?
Does the free Reader have to validate against that or any other server to enable the data access capability?
What happens if the form is changed?
This might be it for now.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Generally the license is based on the number of users. I have about 550 users in my organization (DON in New Orleans), and I paid a fee based on that number. Theoretically the "unlocked" forms are to only be used by the licensed users. That is a bit difficult to do.
I will unlock a Navy form for my users, but its hard to prevent them from getting passed around to users outside my sphere of influence.
I usually put in some read-only statement that makes it difficult for others to use it. That is mostly for my own self-protection.
Actualy even after a form is unlocked, minor adjustments can be made to the form without it needing to be passed thru the reader extensions product. I've changed field attributes and even added and taken out fields with the form extension still intact.
