Allow File Sharing Only

We have a VPN Concentrator 3005. How do we restrict access on the VPN Concentrator that would only allow file sharing on a particular server? I want the Remote users to be able to access file sharing only and nothing else. The server is running Windows 2003 server.
Thanks.
Diane

Hi,
I haven't use VPN Concentrator. I use ASA/PIX for both S2S and Remote VPN.
Open port 135 to 139 (both TCP and UDP) and port 445 (both TCP and UDP).
These ports are considered dangerous ports. Make sure that when you are opening these ports for user access, it doesn't spill to internet (plain unauthenticated/unencrypted) and should be opened only to few trusted users.

  • File sharing only works for users with Admin rights

    Hi.
I am trying to set up file sharing in Lion Server but am having problems getting all my users access to shared folders. So far, only users that are "allowed to administer this server" are seeing shared files, even though they seem to have "read/write" permissions.
Can anybody tell me what I might be missing?
Is being allowed to "administer" the server different than truly being an Admin?
I want to allow users to read and write files, but not change any server settings.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

What permissions are you setting on the share?  My guess is you are only using user, group, and other (POSIX).  You need to add an ACL to the list and then set read/write or full control.

  • File Sharing Only One-Way Now Since Soft Crash

    Greetings!
Several months ago my 1.25 10.4.11 eMac suffered not a physical hard drive crash but some kind of software crash that scrambled directories. Disk Warrior made the system functional again, save an occasional prefs or cookie glitch caused by a .plist file or cookie file's permissions having been re-set by the crash as "no access" or "no read-write" or even no admin or system or user name access at all (such that Safari wouldn't take new cookies since the crash date) which I fix by re-setting read-write to my user name access and admin as secondary access.
I mention this because since the crash it seems that File Sharing on my eMac side is corrupted. I use ethernet to link my eMac with my 900mHz 10.4.11 iBook and prior the crash I could open each other's HD icon on another's desktop without a problem, but now I can only access my iBook's HD icon on my eMac but not the other way around. Actually my eMac's HD icon does appear on my iBook's desktop before the connection's broken after a few seconds, and my eMac's Sharing panel suddenly "ghosts" the Personal File Sharing listing and states "Personal File Sharing Is Turning On" when it's actually broken off.
I've done the works from changing locations to wearing Onyx and Dusk Utility out trying to remedy this but no go. I highly suspect that some critical file sharing files in my eMac may've had their permissions turned off like other .plist files were, but if so, I don't know which files are File Sharing related to check this out if indeed they're responsible. If anyone can point these out for me it might be half the battle won.
    Any assistance would be welcome!

I hesitate to jump in because I am running OS 10.5.6, rather than 10.4.x ... but the a guy over in the Leopard discussions simply advised me to search the archives for a solution to my problem and the search led me here.
Sharing seems to be broken on my Mac. The finder disappears whenever I try to set 'sharing' for a folder.
The problem that James had with his machine seemed similar and I was prepared to delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist, as suggested by BDAqua. But I DON'T HAVE such a file !! Hmmmmm.
    There is one more thing that might be pertinent. I repaired permissions with DISK UTILITY a couple of times after each time Finder disappears and always receive the same ominous message that the following SUID files had been modified and will not be repaired;
    - System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad
    - usr/bin/setregion
    - System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner
    - System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIOMHelper
I have no idea what that is all about.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

  • SMB File Sharing only works for Admin Accounts???

I'm using a mac mini as a small file server. It will share files to WindowsPCs using SMB but there is a problem.
On the Option dialog where you select accounts to share files and folders using SMB only Admin accounts show up. This is far from ideal as I'd prefer to using Sharing Only or Standard accounts.
Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

What permissions are you setting on the share?  My guess is you are only using user, group, and other (POSIX).  You need to add an ACL to the list and then set read/write or full control.

  • File sharing only works in one direction

I have a 2011 iMac and a 2012 rMBP. File sharing is turned on on both machines, but when I try to connect to the MBP from the iMac, it refuses the connection. I've noticed that it works if I check that box for my account for Windows file sharing (the one that stores your password using a weaker hash I think) on the MBP, but I shouldn't need to do that, hence why I'm here.
It of course works absolutely fine going from MBP to iMac.
Anybody experience something similar, or have any suggestions short of reinstalling the OS?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • SMB file-sharing only works if Firewall is Disabled

On my Mac, I've turned on File Sharing, enabled SMB sharing, and set the firewall to "selected services and applications" (SMB is listed as a service in the firewall application list). I cannot connect to the Mac from a Windows XP machine.
If I turn the firewall off, however, I can create a connection and transfer files from the PC client side. In addition, once I have established a connection I can then re-enable the firewall and continue transferring files.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Jeff

file sharing seems to be working... you will probably have to authenticate prior to beginning the file transfer though, so that is likely what is failing in the first instance.

  • Does CC support folder sharing or file sharing only?

Our team has always orgainized our files within folders named by job number and name and we share them through a server that we can all access. Is there a way to enable access to the entire team within the Cloud or do we need to enable public access to files one at a time?

You can create folders within folders. Just use the Create Folder menu item off the blue Actions button.

  • Problems with IPhone 5 and File Sharing with ITunes

I am using an app that let's you create ringtones. Once created you are supposed to be able to see the songs in the file sharing part of the apps tab on IPhone device on ITunes. However, I can't scroll down to see my files. I can see the part that says apps that allow file sharing, but if I click and arrow down it only moves on the left part of the screen and changes the device to Genesis. I recently purchased a Mac, and this is the first time I am using ITunes with Mac and have this problem.

  • Question on File Sharing Settings For Windows 7

Should be a simple question.  Am just switching over from Windows 2000, SQL 2000, IIS 6, and CF7 TO:  Win 7 SP1 64-bit, SQL 2008, CF 9 and IIS 7.
Just installed IIS 7.5 on the new Win 7 machine (my development PC for creating/testing CF pages), and included the IIS 6 compatibility components.  However, web pages are not being displayed.
Question:  With Windows 7, do you have to remove the checkmark in Folder Options for "USE SHARING WIZARD", as you had to do with Windows XP's "SIMPLE FILE SHARING"?
In WinXP, by removing SIMPLE FILE SHARING, it brought up the WEB SHARING tab when you right-clicked a folder, allowing you to run your local web pages.  Is this how it should be with Windows 7, in order to get my "localhost" web pages to dispay?
Lastly, if I do need to make this change, will it have any impact on File Sharing settings I've already made with my router, to allow FILE SHARING between laptop and desktop, via the router?
    Thanks much for the advice.
    Gary

    Some extra info:
The difference between edited files from a mac and from a windows machine is that files from a mac have "everyone read only" and from a windows machine have "everyone no access" (besides the normal spotlight, users, etc. Those are the same).
So it seems that there's a difference in permissions based on mac/windows, even with the same user?

  • File sharing between Macbook and iPhone 5s? AirDrop or bluetooth

Just purchased my first Macbook ever! I'm catching on quickly however I've run into a snag with file sharing between my other Apple devices.
How can I pair and send files between my MBA and iPhone 5s?
I've made the change in system preferences to allow file sharing, yet still pops up on my iPhone that my MBA doesn't support this.
Also I've enabled Airdrop on both devices yet I can't seem to get that to work as well. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I would love to be able to easily send pictures or documents from my MBA to my iPhone 5s via Airdrop and vice versa.
    Thanks in advance

Regarding AirDrop, note the quotation below from: iOS: Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content
You can't use AirDrop on iOS to share with OS X users, and OS X users can't use AirDrop to share with iOS devices.
The iPhone has limited bluetooth profiles and the only supportde connection between an iPhone and a computer is for tethering (sharing the iPhones cellular data connection). iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles

  • No file sharing after system update

Yesterday, I performed a System Update. Since then, my Z61t has not allowed file sharing on my network. Prior to and after the update, I have made no configuration changes to my file sharing settings. I have checked the settings, and they are proper. I have tried unsuccessfully to stop and restart sharing. The Z61t and its shared drives and folders can be seen from other network computers in their respective My Network Places, but when trying to connect to any shared drive or folder of my Z61t, I receive an error message. The error message states that the drive is "not accessible." It also states, "You may not have permission to use this network resource," and "Not enough server storage is available to process this command." Not even the Shared Documents folder is available on the network. This is not a firewall issue, because I have tried unsuccessfully to connect with the firewall turned off.
Will some kind soul please help me determine what the problem is and how to fix it?

Try if your network works ok.
    Start command promt in Z61t
    type ipconfig
Start command promt in your other pc
type ping "ip addred of z61t"
IF this fails your network is not ok or firewalled.
also try to disable simple file sharing from folder options.

  • Home network file sharing

    Hi,
I've recently lost the ability to view my photo's,music etc on my laptop using a freesat box and have a feeling its been missing since i changed my home hub 3 for another home hub 3 a while ago. When setting these up i seem to remember an option on the installation to allow file sharing on my home network? If this is correct how do i find out if its switched on and turn it on if not. I've been into hub manager but just find it anywhere? Thanks in advance, fish.

If w7 then go to network ans sharing and make sure sharing is enabled

  • Migration Assistant & File Sharing Help

I used Migration Assistant to move files from my old Mac to my new one, but not all files were transferred. Looks like all the apps and settings made it, but I have a bunch of desktop files, and a second hard disk in the old Mac that didn't transfer.
The two computers are connected via ethernet.
I've tried turning file sharing on at both computers, but I don'e see any "shared folders" on either machine (first time I've tried it ever - I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to see and I'm not sure I've got it set up right).
Is there a different/better way to transfer files through the network, and can you lead me through it, or can someone lead me through the file sharing process. The on-line support articles I've read so far aren't very detailed and assume some knowledge that I apparently have yet to master.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Arnie

If you have allowed file sharing in Sys Prefs/Sharing on the old Mac, and if you have chosen Bonjour computers for the Sidebar of Finder windows in the Finder's Preferences on the new Mac, then your old Mac should appear in the Sidebar under Shared. I find that this works best with two horizontal Finder windows, one above the other with both in Column View stretched out to 5 or 6 columns. Use one for browsing to locations on your new Mac and the other to browse to locations on the old Mac.
Highlight your old Mac's name in the Sidebar of one of the windows and in the 1st column you will see an icon for the Mac and under that a button that says Connect. Press the button and you are presented with a dialog box. Enter the long name for your user account on the old Mac and its password. You should be immediately connected to the old Mac and you will have full access to your user account. You can now browse to anywhere in your account and drag & drop things from one window to the same location on your new Mac in the other window. If your account on the old Mac is an admin account, you should also have full access to everything on both of the hard drives on the old Mac.
If by chance when you highlight the old Mac in the sidebar and you are already connected as Guest then the button will say Disconnect. Press it and disconnect the Guest account and then follow the steps above to connect to your user account.

  • Smb file sharing ownership and creation mask

I'm using smb for file sharing with lion. I've created a file sharing only username and password.
The file sharing works as I'd expect with one caviat, the files created are read/write permission of
the file sharing only account. In unix terms the file permissions are set to 600 not 666 or 644.
I'd like to change the file creation mask to 666 (user r/w, group r/w & world r/w) or even 644.
    my /private/var/db/samba/smb.shares file
contains these 2 lines for the [Myuser Public Folder] section:
    create mask = 644
    directory mask = 755
However it doesnt appear as if its honoring these settings.
Alternately if this cant easily be fixed, how can I get a file sharing user
account to write files to my public folder as a different system user?

I have seen many topics created on these discussions with regards to the SMB functionality failing on Time Capsules after 10 mins of operation. Restarting the Time Capsule seems to bring back the SMB functionality but again it stops after 10 mins.
I am not sure if I have a Time Capsule dual band "I" or "II", but I have the firmware 7.4.2 installed on it.
I also read elsewhere that downgrading the firmware to 7.3.2 makes the SMB sharing work again. However, on my model this is not possible since I am using the dual-band model which never had a 7.3.2 firmware version.
So anyone out there have some new tips on this?
I find it crazy that others have called Apple about this problem but Apple support did not verify it and fix it. Really? I am tempted to call myself and try it out because it clearly is problem with every single Time Capsule model!
