"Allow Insecure Authentication" checkbox vanished from SMTP preferences

Good morning,
The "Allow Insecure Authentication" checkbox is not available on SMTP preferences on my sister's MacBook Pro running the latest version of Yosemite. I've found similar problem on a couple of Mac minis I have at the office. However, my MacBook Pro and my wife's MacBook Air both have the option available.
All of the aforementioned Macs are running the latest version of Yosemite.
Any ideas on how to enable this?
Thanks a lot for any help.
Cheers,
JP

I found a workaround on this thread Mail SMTP (outgoing) does not work after Yosemite upgrade, but still can't find a way to display the checkbox option on SMTP settings.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
JP

  • Loaded Yosemite onto mid 2011 MacBook Air. IMAP account goes offline - message - Mail cannot send your password securely to the server.  Allow insecure authentication doesn't work. Repeated reloads. No joy. Help!

Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.

    I have the same problem.
    Late 2012 imac 27", intel i7 core
When I upgraded to Yosemite, suddenly my email account (netvigator POP) gives an error:
Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.
I have shut down & restarted mail, but no success. If I select Allow insecure authentication, it works, but that's not a long term fix.
I also have a hotmail POP account enabled, and that is working fine.
    What's happening Apple??

  • Yosemite Mail - Allow Insecure Authentication

First issue I thought was resolved in OS X Yosemite, that was after my first boot when loading Mail, my IMAP mailboxes showed an 'error' exclamation mark. After some brief searching, I found that allowing insecure authentication (Under Mail Preferences) resolved it.
However the setting is NOT retained upon a relaunch of Mail. Whilst the app is running the settings are retained, but as soon as you quit and reload you have to set it again.
    Tedious.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • 'Allow insecure authentication' selection not saving in mac mail

I have just installed OS X Yosemite
Several of my IMAP email accounts in mail would not connect unless I select 'allow insecure authentication'.
Having made the selection, and saved, the setting reverts to unchecked.
How can I ensure that the selection remains saved?

I also have unsecure IMAP accounts (I have four email addresses) and when I upgraded I saw the Allow insecure authentication so checked it and then found it reverted so I checked it again and also unchecked the 'Automatically detect and maintain account settings'.
I then had a problem where the SMTP server keep dropping its connection and the only way to get it back was to delete the SMTP definition and recreate it.
After spending several hours trying to get it working and talking to the email hosting support (FASTHOSTS in the UK) I gave up and restored to Maverick.
Anybody out there using Fasthosts, multiple email accounts and has this working? Or even not using FASTHOSTS and has this working.
Anybody upgraded with multiple email addresses (same domain) and using SSL got this working?
Not sure if I should talk to Apple support but that costs £35 and I needed to move on so restore was faster.
thanks in advance for any help out there

Today my system seems to have forgotten that it has bluetooth hardware.  The OS doesn't see it.  In fact, the bluetooth panel has vanished from system preferences.
    So far I've...
    reset the PRAM
    reset the SMC
tried to delete com.apple.bluetooth.??? (but it wasn't there)
    deleted com.apple.preferencepane.cache
No luck - stil no BT.
    What should I try next?

  • "Allow insecure authentication" not working on mac mail after upgrade to Yosimite

I recently upgraded to the new Yosemite OS.  Since then, I have not been able to access my ISP's IMAP server. After spending time troubleshooting with the service provider, it seems that the "allow insecure authentication" feature is not working.  The password appears to be sent as a series of "*" which the server can not recognize and I fail the login. It is of note that I am still able to access this email account through my iPhone 4S with all the same settings and had no issues before the Yosimite upgrade. Is there anyway around this issue?

I had the same problem. Rebooting the computer fixed the issue for me.

  • Allow Insecure Authentication for SMTP will not stay selected

We have email at a service that requires this setting to be selected, but it constantly gets deselected and will not stick. OS X 10.10.2.

  • 2-Sided Printing Vanished from 2605dn Preferences Under Windows 7

Have been happily using LaserJet 2605dn with PCL6 driver directly from HP for years under 32-bit Windows XP SP3.  Set up different printing shortcuts and default for single-sided, double-sided, color, gray-scale, paper type, etc.  All worked fine.
Now migrated to 64-bit Windows 7 SP1, and Windows could only find a PS driver for this old printer. Although I can still define "Print Task Quick Sets," I don't see a way to select one as default, and most importantly, I can no longer find any setting on the Printing Preferences pages for one-sided vs two-sided printing.
Although I can make single/double-sided choices directly in Office 2013 and Acrobat 11 applications, I cannot find any way to print two sided from Firefox because of this.  Did I get the wrong printer driver, or is there another  solution to this problem? -- jclarkw

    Hi,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.
Now Automatic Duplexing should become available.

  • Mac Mail is continuously adjusting the "allow insecure authorization" option on it's own

I've already lost 3 clients due to a lack of timely email response, and I had no idea why Mac Mail was having issues connecting to my email server. I've spoken at length with my web hosting support, and it turns out the options in Mac Mail for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" and "Allow insecure authentication" are new with Yosemite, in both the incoming and outgoing settings (see below).
Well it turns out the only way for me to be able to even use Mac Mail and have it connect to my email server, I have to have "Automatically..." unchecked, and "Allow insecure..." checked in each and every one of the accounts. I completely hate the idea of having to have anything "insecure" associated with my email, but it's the ONLY way I can get it to function properly, and I don't have the time to integrate everything to another email program at the moment. Not only is this a huge security risk in general, but the program will continuously uncheck the "Allow insecure authentication" option entirely ON IT'S OWN about every 20-30 minutes or so, completely jam up all communication I'm working on, require me to go back through and repeat the same tedious process for each and every one of the accounts, and then ALSO have to totally shut the program down and reopen it for the settings to take effect. In fact, the second of the two images seen above JUST unchecked the "Allow insecure authentication" box between the time it took me to start this post and take the screen shot!!
Something HAS TO BE FIXED with this or it could be a huge issue in a lot of ways. I'm planning on dropping the whole program altogether just as soon as I have the time to properly migrate all of my email setup to another program (which I'm looking forward to less than I would a root canal), but for now I'm just hoping and praying I make it that far without either a major security breach or losing any more clientele. As is, I've lost three clients in just the last week from not being able to correspond on tight deadlines.
Downgrade, in all meanings of the term...

Since you are doing a workaround, try deselecting use SSL.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Cannot open anything from system preferences

I'm getting the "Systems Preferences quit unexpectedly" message and now will not allow me to open anything from systems preferences. I;m getting the same problem with my emial app

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

You can change the settings in Security & Privacy to "Anywhere"...
That should work... as to whether the printer driver will work, that's another question.
