Allow stacks in collections

I have my collection organized by collections, not by folders. However, Lightroom2 only allows me to use the wonderful stack functionality in the folders, not inside of collections. This for all intents and purposes that the stacks function, which should be great, is of no help to me.

>Why?
If I have multiple similar images I stack them. The image that I do, or intend to do, a lot of work on goes on top.
Sometimes, it happens that the image I originally thought was the best of the bunch turns out not to be once I start working on it in earnest. Sometimes, a slightly different view of the subject is needed than the one I originally picked.
I want to keep all of the similars together so I can easily get to an alternate when I need it, but I sure don't need to view all of them individually when I'm in a collection, I just need them handy. Fully implemented Stacks are the perfect answer to this.
Now let me ask you, why not?
My alternative is to have to figure out which folder the similars are in, leave the collection, go to that folder which may contain thousands of images, and navigate my way to the one I want. Then I need to drag it back to the collection.
Now that just doesn't make sense.
On the other hand, if there are some other users who like it the way it is as much as I disklike it, why not handle it with a preference and let us both work the way we like to work?

  • Stacks in collections

    Am I missing something here?
    I have stacks set with groups of images, when those stacks are referenced in a collection the stacks are open and can not be closed? These images reside with in the same folder and are already stacked. I can see the possible reason to not allow stacks of images in collections that span multiple folders, but why are my current stacks not allowed to exist in collections?
    Make sense?

    Stacks presently work only in folders.

  • Stacking versus Collections for grouping images to be batch processed

    My typical shoot is studio portraiture, with shifting backgrounds, poses and lighting setups. I can usually batch about 25 images in a single chunk before something changes to require a new retouching approach.
    If I want to group like raw images needing similar retouching with Lightroom, should I use Stacking or Collections?
    I've read the full manual, and it's not clear to me which is the better approach. Stacking is called the approach for this in the manual, but it involves the step of unstacking or stacking. Collections seems just as appropriate.
    Appreciate any insight on which of these 2 most people use to group like images, as well as any other info on where people use stacking or collections.
    I'm Windows XP.
    Thanks
    Paul

    Each to there own.
    I see stacking as a set of images that have a distinct similarity, for example a model shoot of similar poses, what ever. the idea is to stack on top the most favorite/desired and stack under the less favs that u want to have access to at a later time, or just cant part ways with.
    I see collections as a vertual way of re-catorgorizing a set of images.
    In your case, another way might be to assign a specific keyword relevant to the light scene or touch up required, on import.
    Or use the star ratings, personal choice to a point.

    I'm a little confused as to how to write to the machine and how to retrieve data from the machine. I'm unsure of requested byte size and string to write specifically. This machine also has 4 probes, so it can record 4 temperatures simultaneously. How can I reflect this in the waveform chart?

    There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple; and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.
    You could find a driver for this instrument at http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/default.htm . If it's not listed there, it leaves you with one of a couple options. First, I would like you to submit a request for this driver at: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/instrumentdriverrequest/

  • Stacking yet again............

    There have been other topics about stacking, and it seems pretty universal that the functionality of stacking is severely compromised in V2 (maybe fixed in 2.1?) by not being able to stack across directories (raw files in one tree, derivatives in another), and in collections... Hopefully, if this isn't fixed in 2.1, it'll be fixed VERY SOON......
    BUT, my question this time is about stacks being visible between LR and Bridge. Typically, I stack images that were either bracketed or shot for a panorama. If I stack a set of images in Bridge it doesn't appear that the stack is available in LR. synchronizing or updating thumbnails doesn't appear to get the stack information. Likewise, if I stack a set in LR, the stack doesn't appear to be available in Bridge even with an explicit "save metadata".....
    What do I need to do to have my stacks be visible/available between these applications?

    Hi Everyone,
    Bear in mind that, as with any project of this nature, the LR designers (who are indeed photographers) are not the programers. My involvement with another Adobe project let me view the frustration first hand as the people defining the project on this side of the planet would be told that it couldn't be done by the team on the other side of the planet.
    So in the spirit of the season, please remember that those LR designers are probably feeling the same frustration that you do and on top of that they are receiving the blame for that which they cannot control by people on the forum - and they do read what's posted on the forum. Also I see in the news that Adobe announced that 600 people were being laid off due to the current economic crisis so it can't be much fun around there at the moment.
    If you really want a feature the most productive thing you can do to get it added is to ask for it but include a justification for it just as if you were presenting it to the programmers (who are not photographers). It is the ammunition that internal marketing uses to get the code writers to change something.
    One last point to consider. Some requested feature (like allowing Stacks across folders) may seem trivial but it may involve something much more complex in its execution. When I was writing books for Corel, a common occurrence was to have a request for a simple change but it would be close enough to launch that it would not be added out of the very real fear that it would break something else in the very large complex application. So, some of the features we want many very well be on the must list for LR3.

  • How to perform Data Collection on single SFC with QTY = 1 with material lot size 1?

    Dear experts,
    We are working with SFC qty>1 on a relaxed routing. At a given operation we want to collect the data on single quantity; i.e. SFC qty on that operation, where the collection will happen, will be 1.The corresponding material lot size is for ex 10. The operator must be able to collect data on SFC with qty=1 multiple times until the quantities will be consumed. He must be also able to collect other values on the remaining quantities on the same operation with the same DC group or other DC groups. How many times the data must be collected is dependent on the shop order build quantity. The data may be collected several time but not more than the build qty. In other words some specific data will be collected on a qty of a product while others will be collected against remaining quantity. The data collection must be also done in a serialized manner.
    Here's what we have set up so far:
    1) 3 DC groups, each DC group has 3 data fields.
    2) Each data field has the following restrictions:  Required Data Entries = 0 and Optional Data Entries = 1
    3) All DC groups are attached on the same combination of operation\material\routing
    4) we are using relaxed routing
    Process description:
    The operator must be able to collect any data field on single product. For that he will enter the operation where the data collect are attached, he will enter the SFC with qty=1 then he will run the data collection after selecting the appropriate DC Group and entering the needed information. The operator will complete the SFC with qty=1.
    The operator will pick the next product, select the same SFC and enter qty 1 and collect other value against this product.
    Problem is:
    Once the first collection is done on a given SFC with entered qty=1, the system is not allowing the operator to do further collects on the same SFC with qty=1 or any other quantity. He cannot select any DC group from the DC group list. We tried also with the table selection menu on the DC Group list but nothing can be selected.
    So we tried to play around with the DC group definitions as follows:
    A) we set Required Data Entries = 0 and Optional Data Entries = 10. Still the operator was not able to select any DC group after collecting data the first time. We tried to reopen the pod and list again. But we get the same blocking behavior.
    B) we set Required Data Entries = 10 and Optional Data Entries = 1. The operator was able to select the DC group after collecting data the first time. BUT operator must enter the data fields 10 times on one SFC quantity, which is not what we want. Besides again he cannot collect other information on remaining quantities on the same operation.
    C) There's an option to serialize the SFC before reaching the operation where the collection is happening, then merging ofter complete. Automation is needed here; hence customization. We are highly avoiding customization now, since we expect the data collect to work well on single quantities even when the main SFC has qty>1
    Questions:
    1) Are we missing any kind of further configuration\setup?
    2) Or the current system design does not allow collecting data on single quantities of an SFC which main quantity is greater than 1?
    3) Looking at this link Approaches to Collection of Data - SAP Manufacturing Execution (SAP ME) - SAP Library, there's nothing mentioned about same SFC number with multiple quantities!!!
    We are using SAP ME 15.0.3.0.
    Thanks in advance for your help

    to collect data for the same SFC multiple times, your system rule "Allow Multiple Data Collection" needs to be set to true for the site.

  • Xperf doesn't show stacks on Windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi,
    Here is what I do:
    xperf -on BASE+PROFILE -StackWalk PROFILE
    Perform the actions.
    xperf -stop -d
    _NT_SYMBOL_PATH=SRV*C:\Development\Symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    When I open the resultant ETL file in XperfView, the stack column shows all "?!?", which supposedly means the stacks are collected in the trace, but somehow XperfView cannot decode them.
    Is this because Xperf is no longer supported in Windows 8.1?

  • Transfer assets collectively to new class and create new assets like ABUMN

    We need to change the account determination for a few Asset Classes that already have assets with postings.  As a result we must create new asset classes and assign a new account determination.
    Is there a program that would allow transfer assets collectively to a new asset class and create new assets automatically similar to ABUMN?  T-code ABUMN allows you to transfer multiple assets but you must create the new assets first.  ABUMN will transfer and create new asset but only does one asset at a time.
    There are hundreds of assets with postings to be transferred from the old asset classes to the corresponding new asset classes.
    Appreciate whatever input you can provide.

  • Problem with Stacked area chart

    Hi all,
    I'm working on delivery data according to month having input(combo) as the year. I'm trying to display the data in percentages in Stacked area chart having series as ontime delivery, 1 week late, 2 weeks late,........5 weeks late and category labels as months. The problem is when I take the Preview of data I get to see the data for ontime, 1 week , 2 week as it should be but when I hover the mouse over the 2 weeks data area  mouse over values shows 5 weeks data(0 %) where as in reality the colored area belongs to 2 weeks data. I tried to delete 5 weeks series data and now it shows as 4 weeks data.
    What could be the problem ?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the answer regarding dates. I'm still awaiting an answer on the following part of my question:
    "My problem is that I am trying to configure a stacked area chart to show various related financial figures over the period of a year or more. My problem with a regular stacked area chart is that because of the large number of data points (daily) the X axis becomes far too chaotic with the large number of labels. The obvious option seems to be to use the "Show time scale" option in axis settings, however when you chose this option the "Date axis area" chart type is automatically chosen and this chart type doesn't seem to allow stacking. Can anybody help?"
    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How do I add or delete photos from a SMART collection?

    In LR3 I recently created a Smart Collection from color flagged photos. Now I want to add a few, and delete a few. How?? The obvious method are not allowed with SMART Collections..... Thanks for any input -

    Hi,
    If you select ALL images that are in your Smart Selection that you wish to keep in a collection, then create a new 'Non-Smart' Collection, all the selected photographs are automatically added to your new Collection (well, they are in LR 3.3RC on Windows 7). You can then delete the 'Smart' collection, and add / delete photos to your new collection as you wish.

  • Displaying multiple max occurrences in a collection.

    Hello, I've written a program that asks the user to input numbers. Once 0 is entered, input ends. The values are then stored in a map, along with their occurrences. I need it to display the value that has the max occurrence only, which I have achieved. Problem is, I also need it to display mutliple values if their occurrence(max) is the same. Any thoughts?
    import java.util.*;
    public class NumberOccurrence {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            LinkedList<Integer> valueList = new LinkedList<Integer>();
            int input = 1;

            while (input != 0) {
                System.out.println("Enter a value. If the value 0 is " +
                        "entered, input ends.");
                input = Keyboard.nextInt();
                valueList.add(input);
            ListIterator<Integer> listIterator = valueList.listIterator();
            while (listIterator.hasNext()) {
                     int key = listIterator.next();
                    if (map.get(key) == null) {
                        map.put(key, 1);
                    else {
                        int value = map.get(key).intValue();
                        value++;
                        map.put(key, value);
            ArrayList<sortedOccurrence> list = new ArrayList<sortedOccurrence>();
            Set<Map.Entry<Integer, Integer>> entrySet = map.entrySet();
            for (Map.Entry<Integer, Integer> entry: entrySet) {
                list.add(new sortedOccurrence(entry.getKey(), entry.getValue()));
            Collections.sort(list, Collections.reverseOrder());
            System.out.println(Collections.max(list));
    class sortedOccurrence implements Comparable<sortedOccurrence> {
        private int number;
        private int count;
        public sortedOccurrence(int number, int count) {
            this.number = number;
            this.count = count;
        public int compareTo(sortedOccurrence o) {
            return count-o.count;
        public String toString() {
            return "The number is " + number + " \t" + "The count is " + count;
    }If I were to input 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 0, the display would look like this:
    "The number is 4      The count is 2"
    What I need it to do is display multiple values that have the same (max) occurrence. Output should look like this:
    "The number is 4 The count is 2
    The number is 5 The count is 2"
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Stop all that sorting, you don't need it.
    Also, this is pointless:
            Collections.sort(list, Collections.reverseOrder());
            System.out.println(Collections.max(list));Collections.max doesn't need the input to be sorted.
    Also you're probably not even allowed to use Collections.max in a homework assignment. And it wouldn't work for this assignment anyway.
    This is so simple I'm just going to give it to you: Keep two integer variables, one for the maximum value and one for the count. Assuming the input integers will all be >= 0, init the max value to -1 and the count to zero.
    Loop through the list. When you find a number bigger than the max value, set the max value to that number and reset the count to one. When you find a number equal to the max value, increment the count. When you're done, confirm that the max value isn't still -1, and output the max value and the count accordingly.

  • How to map a collection of object in TopLink?

    For (simple) example, I've a XSD that defines:
    <xsd:complexType name="AttachmentType">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="docID" nillable="false" type="xsd:string"/>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:complexType name="MyDocType">
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="attachment" nillable="true" minOccurs="0"
    maxOccurs="unbounded" type="tns:AttachmentType"/>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    This XSD is referenced by a WSDL. Using JDeveloper to generate a Java Web Service using the WSDL and will get the following classes:
    public class AttachmentType implements java.io.Serializable
    protected java.lang.String docID;
    public AttachmentType() {    }
    public java.lang.String getDocID() {        return docID;    }
    public void setDocID(java.lang.String docID) {        this.docID = docID;    }
    public class MyDocType implements java.io.Serializable
    protected AttachmentType[] attachment;
    public MyDocType () {    }
    public AttachmentType[] getAttachment() {        return attachment;    }
    public void setAttachment(AttachmentType[] attachment)
    this.attachment = attachment;
    Now I want to generate a XML document from MyDocType. I use TopLink (JAXB) to do the mapping. However, how to map the 'attachment' of type AttachmentType[]? TopLink seems only allowing List/Set/Collection container options.
    Anyone can help?
    Note: I have to use the classes generated from WSDL.
    Thanks!!

    Thanks. I'm using TopLink Workbench for the mapping
    and have no idea on how to specify the XML
    transformation mapping for array attribute. Can you
    tell me more?I was putting together an example of the transformation mapping but came up with a better way. It turns out that a transformation mapping isn't ideal because you have to take over some of the responsibility for converting XML to objects. A better solution is to intercept the calls to the getter and setter for the AttachmentType[] and convert between an Array and List. Just map the Array as a composite collection in the workbench and customize the attachment attribute mapping in code.
    Each mapping in TopLink has Accessor object responsible for getting and setting values in objects. If you choose method or direct access the mapping will have a different Accessor class. So the solution is to use an Accessor that converts the List TopLink builds into an Array of the correct type on set. On get, the Accessor creates a List from the Array.
    You can introduce a custom Accessor using an After Load method. I've put a complete example up on my googlepages account[1]. The key code is listed below. Note that this code assumes you're using direct instance variable access. Also, this code works with TopLink 10.1.3.2 and the TopLink 11 preview. It won't work with previous versions.
    The After Load class that changes the mapping accessor:
    public class MyDocCustomizer {
         public static void customize(ClassDescriptor descriptor) {
              XMLCompositeCollectionMapping mapping = (XMLCompositeCollectionMapping)
                   descriptor.getMappingForAttributeName("attachment");
              InstanceVariableAttributeAccessor existingAccessor =
                   (InstanceVariableAttributeAccessor) mapping.getAttributeAccessor();
              ListArrayTransformationAccessor transformationAccessor =
                   new ListArrayTransformationAccessor(AttachmentType.class, "attachment");
              transformationAccessor.initializeAttributes(descriptor.getJavaClass());
              mapping.setAttributeAccessor(transformationAccessor);
    }The custom InstanceVariableAccessor subclass:
    public class ListArrayTransformationAccessor extends
              InstanceVariableAttributeAccessor {
         private Class arrayClass;
         public ListArrayTransformationAccessor(Class arrayClass, String attributeName) {
              super();
              this.arrayClass = arrayClass;
              this.setAttributeName(attributeName);
         public Object getAttributeValueFromObject(Object anObject)
                   throws DescriptorException {
              Object[] attributeValueFromObject =
                   (Object[]) super.getAttributeValueFromObject(anObject);
              return Arrays.asList(attributeValueFromObject);
         public void setAttributeValueInObject(Object anObject, Object value)
                   throws DescriptorException {
              List collection = (List)value;
              Object[] array = (Object[]) Array.newInstance(arrayClass, collection.size());
              for (int i = 0; i < collection.size(); i++) {
                   Object element = collection.get(i);
                   Array.set(array, i, element);
              super.setAttributeValueInObject(anObject, array);

  • Difference for method stack size in release and debug builds

    Hi,

  • Create Collection in specific folder

    I have a software deployment runbook that creates a collection if needed. The Create Collection activity seems to only allow for creating collections in the root folder. I have tried adding the folder path before the collection with name like AAA:\<object
    type>\folder\sub-folder\subfolder but Orchestrator seems to add extra slashes like AAA:\\<object type>\\folder\\sub-folder\\subfolder
    which breaks it.
    I am also playing with just running a Move-CMObject script after the Create Collection. But since you cannot have the SCCM console and PowerShell module on a server running the IP...thats just a huge pain in the butt.
    Can anyone offer advice on creating collections in a specific folder?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Based on my research, it seems that create collection and move it to specified folder is the only solution.
    Is remoting an option for you? You can remote to SCCM server, and import PowerShell module. So you can run PowerShell to create collection and move the specified folder.

  • Suggestions to improve Bridge CS4 Collections feature

    The new "Collections" feature in Bridge CS4 is Great! It's pretty close to what I've been missing in CS3. In working with the new feature I've discovered several areas where it could be made even more useful.
    1. It appears folders get added to Smart Collections but cannot be dragged to regular Collections. I'd like to be able to drag a folder from the Content or Folders panes into a Collection. When I try, I see a "can not do this" icon symbol.
    2. I'd like to be able to drag Stacks into Collections. As it is now, I can expand the stack and drag the individual photos into a Collection. But then I have to re-stack the images in the Collection. Since the photos were already stacked in their original (real) folder, this seems redundant.
    3. I'd like to be able to create Collections of Collections. Since it seems the Collections pane can only contain a single level of entries, I envision this pane becoming unwieldy over time.
    4. When working with Collections, and viewing the contents of a specific collection, the Folders pane "resets" to the top level. So I then need to re-navigate to where I was working in the filesystem to add items to Collections. While I understand the rationale for this, it's a hassle. It'd be nice to be able to maintain my position in the Folders view, grab some files, view the contents of a Collection, and be able to flip back to the Folders pane to continue exploring the filesystem where I left off, without having to remember where I was and re-navigate to that location.
    Thanks for reading :)

    I second your #3.
    I use non-smart Collections as a way to organise customer initial enquiries and subsequent choice of image to take from the selection I offer. In this respect, CS4 is a real imprvement over CS3. But keeping lots of current collections for many customers in a flat file system isn't a viable long-term solution.
    Folders within Collections would therefore be a real boon for me, too.
    The 4th top row icon from the left generates a drop-down list of recent folders. Could this be an answer to your #4?
