"Allow Third-Party Flash Content to Store" possible as a Linux user?

Hello,
is it possible to activative the option "Allow Third-Party
Flash Content to Store" on the "Global Storage Settings" panel if
you are starting a webbrowser as a normal user under Linux? At the
moment it is only possible for me if I start my Firefox (or Opera,
Konqueror) with root priviileges. Do I have to change the rights of
a certain folder or something like that?
The reason why I ask is that I noticed that you can activate
sound in YouTube Videos only if you activate Flash Cookies.
My Flash Player version is the current one, version 9. I use
Kubuntu 7.10, if it is of any importance.
Thanks for any help

OK, I solved it. There is a hidden .macromedia folder in the
home folder, where the youtube sound settings are stored.
Everything in the macromedia folder was set as root. I simply
deleted the .macromedia folder, it was recreated with user rights
when I came back to youtube.

  • Not seeing "allow third-party Flash content to store..." in Flash 10.0.45.2

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Flash player 10.0.45.2. I would like to review and choose my privacy settings.
When I go to the Settings manager through the online interface, I do not see the "Allow thrid-party Flash content to store..." as expected and as described in
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/546/4c68e546.html
    Instead, I see
I want to set up my settings to allow to store information from the original domain, but NOT from third-party domains, how do I do this?
The first choice is in French and says :
'Allow Flash content to store information on your computer". There is no reference whatsoever to "third-party" information.
Is this normal? Is this a translation mistake? Does the first choice there apply to ALL information (so-called Flash cookies), from the originated domain AND from the third-party domains?
Second question: I can't seem to find how to see the Settings manager in English...
I am using Firefox, but I tried with Opera, and the Settings manager looked the same: no choice for "third-party" thinsg either.
My OS is Windows XP SP2 (French), but all my browsers are English, so I'd like to see the Flash settings in English, too.
Thanks for any help, I really want to block the third-party cookies, but not the others.

    Hi again,
Thanks for your time... but I'm still stuck.
    The Language problem
I CAN change the language settings for the Global site, but the Flash Player settings 'live" window is ALWAYS in French, no matter what I do and which language I choose.
    The Third-Party Settings problem:
    As you said:
    In English, the choices are:
    Never ask again
Allow third party content to store data on your computer
Store common Flash components to reduce download times
    In French, the choices are:
Ne plus demander (This is a correct translation of "Never ask again")
Autoriser le contenu Flash à enregistrer des données sur votre ordinateur : This is an INCOMPLETE OR WRONG translation, the french sentence means "Allow content to store data on your computer". There is NO MENTION of third-party here.
Stocker les composants Flash courants pour réduire la durée de téléchargement. This is a correct translation of "Store common Flash components to reduce download times.
So, am I to think that if I uncheck the second choice, I will disallow third-party stuff (as in the English sentence), or will it disallow ALL content to be stored (as in the French sentence), regardless of third-party or not?
This is very important for me, and for all the French speaking Flash player users.
I can't believe there is such a mistake in a product used as widely as the Flash player is...
The Website Storage settings are per website settings, I do not want to have to accept/deny each website individually, I want a global policy for disabling third-party cookies, exactly as the second choice in English is designed for.
Unfortunately, the French second choice (apparently) doesn't say the same, as it allows/disallows ALL contents.
Could someone from the Adobe translation team (or equivalent) help to solve this, maybe?
Regards and thanks for any help.

Found this info recently, try this:
Note for IT / Tech Support staff: If you are in a Windows domain login environment, such as a workplace network, there could be a conflict with the location of the Desktop directory. Some users have reported success by creating an empty folder named "Desktop" in their home directories (so if you already have a "Desktop" folder in your home directory, this probably will not help).
In explorer, go to your home directory location:
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\WINDOWS-USERNAME\
    Vista: C:\Users\WINDOWS-USERNAME\
Create a new folder named "Desktop" in that location. Then try enabling Flash Local Storage again, as above.

  • Will not allow 3rd party flash content

When I load a webpage that may have a flash player embedded video...I get the error message:
Please click 'Allow 3rd Party Flash Content' in the Adobe Global Storage Settings page that will load when you click OK
However, when I click OK and look at my settings, the "Allow 3rd Party Flash Content" box is already checked.  So, I'm not sure what to do to resolve this.
I am using Firefox version 3.6.15 and Windows XP.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    thanks.

Hi, I know some websites may have different requirements, but for some reason they don't seem to be recognizing your Settings. That or it is something else. I can't see why viewing a video would even require that. I've never UNchecked mine, so I don't know that for sure. Youtube videos use Flash Player thru the browser.
Can you right click on the video and see if they are using their player?
Do you have Windows Media Player Installed?
In the FF plugins is the Shockwave Flash plugin enabled? It needs to be.
Can you see the Flash Player logo animate (spin) here? What version of Flash player is displayed?  http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    Do you use any adblock?

  • Cannot check Allow Third-Party Content from Global Storage Settings panel.

I cannot check the box that says Allow   Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer in the Global Storage Settings panel. I have seen many other people with this issues but they have either been unresolved or the resolutions to the problems do not work for me.
    I am running
    Windows XP SP2 32bit
    Firefox 3.6.6 32 bit
Can somebody please help me resolve this issue?

When you open Windows Explorer, type %appdata% into the address bar, and it will take you to the location.
On Windows XP this is usually C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data
From there go down to the 'Adobe' and 'Macromedia' folders and delete the 'Flash Player' folder in each.

I've seen people post about this before, but the other posts were from users with different operating systems. I'm running windows 7 with firefox 3.6.12 and adobe flash 10.1

Delete the 'Flash Player' folders at %APPDATA%\Adobe and %APPDATA%\Macromedia and try again. (Type or copy/paste these addresses into the Windows Explorer address bar.)

  • Not allowing third party cookies

I have absolutely no idea what happened, but flash player isn't allowing third party cookies on my mac. I've uninstalled re-installed and took plug-ins out of the internet plug-ins folder to see if any of them were conflicting with flash player and still no results. The worst part is that on the global settings panel inside of the adobe website it wont allow me to change any settings. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Another interesting fact is that flash works fine under other users. At this point it seems like the only solution is to transfer all my files to another account. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

    bad class file C:\java\keyword\classes\thirdPartyClass
class file contains wrong class: thirdPartyClass
please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectroy of the classpath.
While looking I have found that the classes do not contian src folders of Javadoc so I will go see if the third party can supply a Jar file or similar.
    Thanks

  • Please allow third party apps to do turn by turn GPS apps

    Hi,
I emailed the people at www.garmin.com they have a software called "Garmin Mobile XT" the only one currently allowing Dominican residents to use the GPS map at www.ola.com.do, Garmin says that the current iPhone SDK won't allow third party apps to do turn by turn apps. Please change the SDK to allow third party apps to do this or talk with the people at www.ola.com.do so that the GPS map can be included in the google map's database. Thanks.

  • Third party Flash transition effects

Can third party transition effects be used in Catalyst?

The effect code would not be accessible to Catalyst. You can use Flash Profession to animate the item with the effect you want, then import that swf into Flash Catalyst. FC does allow you to play and stop a swf.
The imported swf should be published with player 10.1 as the target.
    Hope this helps,

  • Third Party Repair vs Apple Store Visit (weird situation/question)

I have a 24" intel iMac that recently went kaput. I turned it on last night and it could no longer find any startup volume. It was as if my hard drive just vanished. I tried rebooting, I tried holding the option key and booting, I tried holding c and booting, etc. to no avail. There was just no longer a hard drive. I booted from the install cd and ran disk utility, but there was no volume to repair or reformat/reinstall on, so I finally called Apple. We went through the whole troubleshooting procedure and the rep came to the conclusion that I would have to bring my iMac to the nearest Apple Store or dealer to have the hard drive replaced...
Now, here's where my situation gets a little unique and where my actual question comes in. I live close by to an Apple Store, but I am currently receiving high-dose chemotherapy and it is HIGHLY inadvisable for me to drive, let alone expose myself to mall germs for the next few weeks. I told the Apple rep about my situation and asked about having someone come to my house to repair the computer. He obliged by hooking me up with an approved third-party dealer. They will apparently call me to set up an appointment, come to my home and replace my hard drive. Now, this is great, but I had a question about this which the Apple rep could not answer and I have yet to receive a call from the third-party repair company. My question for the rep was whether or not this third-party repair company would do anything at all to attempt to retrieve the data on the defective drive. The Apple Rep said he did not know what, if anything, they would do to help me retrieve the data currently in limbo. That pretty much stinks because all of my personal info is on there, including tax returns, e-mails, photos and music. I have some backups, but definitely not everything. This is long, sorry....wow...anyway, here is my question for this board:
Would I be better off waiting and just going through the Apple Store for this process? I have AppleCare and my PowerBook, so time is not really an issue; but would they go above and beyond in the effort to retrieve my data? I have no idea what this third party is going to do, but I'll find out eventually; however, if I'm armed with the knowledge that the Apple Store will do everything they can to get my data and this third party ends up sounding wishy washy about it (or worse - they flat out say they won't do anything beyond the repair), I'll just tell them to forget it and wait until I can travel and take my iMac into the Apple Store. This information is vital because the one thing the Apple rep made crystal clear is that there is no way I will be allowed to keep the old drive, which would allow me to attempt data retrieval at my leisure.
Also, this is an additional minor question: the Apple Rep said that the old drives are destroyed when received by Apple, but can anyone here confirm this? Is it 100% assured that these drives are not just given a cursory wipe and then refurbished (if it turns out they can be fixed that is)?
Thanks for listening and any info you can provide.

"but would they go above and beyond in the effort to retrieve my data?"
It has been my understanding from reports here by other users with the experience, that the Apple stores generally charge a fee (I think $75) for transferring hard drive data - it's not part of the service that they're performing. Don't assume that before you leave without your Mac, anyone will even inquire whether or not you still have data on a drive. There have been reports from some users who simply made the assumption that data transfer would be taken care of, only to find it all gone. As for an Apple authorized dealer, I'm not sure why the situation would be any different at all. Best to use caution.
