Allowing calculated values to be overwritten, but then not recalculated

Hi,
I'm a bit new to HFM and rules, so I'm looking for some advice on how best to set up HFM to meet one of our business requirements.
We have a need to show a certain part of our P&L for December as Opening WIP numbers for the following year. What I am thinking of doing currently is creating a new scenario called Opening WIP and using a rule to set the values of this new scenario to be calculated from the December P&L. However, different parts of our business may want to adjust these numbers, so I would need to provide a web form through which they can overwrite the numbers derived from the prior year. However, I am concerned that because a calculate rule will exist, when consolidations are run the manually adjusted numbers will simply be replaced by calcualted numbers.
Can anyone shed some light on what the best practice approach to this might be?

Hi,
You can use one custom dimension as an audit dimension. To be specific, the members of this dimension will be the different sources of the data like general ledger, manual input, other adjustment. So you will be able to copy the data to one specific member and then ask your users to make adjustments in other members.

Can anyone provide a practical example of when Etherchannel would be configured but then NOT trunked...

I am in the process of educating a client of mine about all aspects of switching.
I was teaching them about Etherchannel the other day, when I realized that I did not know for sure whether or not one could create an Etherchannel and then not trunk it.
Based on some examples I have seen, I am still led to believe it is possible.
I am just trying to think of a practical example of configuring such... The only thing that comes to my mind is if you are NIC teaming a server's two NIC's then we may want to Etherchannel but not trunk?...

How do I allow an alarm to be set based on a comparison but then NOT aloow the alarm to clear until a button is pressed?

I have a program that compares DAQ values to a threshold value. If the value surpasses the threshold, an led blinks. The problem is, if the value then goes back below threshold the blinking will stop, as a result of the comparison being False. What I want is to allow the alarm to begin the blinking but not allow it to stop until I press another button, essentially clearing the alarms. I am just flabbergasted at how to accomplish this. Any ideas?

Attached is an example of what I described.
If you turn the dial past 5 the LED will turn ON.
If you turn the dial down (even to 0) the LED will remain ON until you reset the alarm (RESET button).
If you press RESET while the alarm is active, it will only turn OFF the LED when the value is below 5.
You can stop the vi by pressing STOP.

E3000 - WoL - Works Once, But Then Not Again

Greetings,
I am using WoL for one of the PC's connected to a E3000 on my home network. I can successfully power on the PC from S3 (standby) or S5 (power off) state one or more times, but after a certain amount of time the E3000 fails to send packets to the destination PC and it fails to wake.
Logging indicates packets are being received by the router. They just stop being forwarded to the destination after a certain period of time. I haven't measured this time exactly.
Research indicates that the router might be removing the destination PC's IP from it's ARP table, which in turn makes the PC unreachable until it is manually powered on and off again (S5) or put into standby (S3).
It works reliably and consistently, then stops within a few hours. The issue is not related to power management on the NIC. As I said, packets on the WAN are received successfully from the outside. Packets on the LAN are also received, but not forwarded for wake.
I am using various utilities to wake. All work well.

Does anyone have ideas what can be done to make waking the PC consistent? The only other thing I haven't tried is manually inputting the static IP on the NIC... the same IP that is reserved for it's MAC address set up on the E3000.

For Wake on LAN to work on a computer, it must have the following:
•   A wired connection to an active computer network
•   Motherboard
•   Network adapter and adapter driver that supports the standard Magic Packet format
• Computer basic input/output system (BIOS) configured for WoL
•   An operating system that supports WoL
•   All routers between the remote location and computer required to WoL must allow IP directed broadcasts and support IPv4

Why does Leopard awaken but then not go back to sleep?

I can understand that there is some process that wakes my Mac up in the middle of the night; Software Update, for instance. But what I do not understand is that if the preferences are set to put the Mac to sleep after a period of activity, and I can observe that the Mac stays asleep for at least that long when I manually put it to sleep, why doesn't it just go back to sleep by itself?

Try:

I CANNOT restore my iPhone, so now I'm stuck with a useless iPhone because I can't complete Restore - because Error 23 keeps coming up! Ugh...it bugs the heck out of me, that Apple assigns an error number without explaining (a) what that IS, (b) taking or redirecting to a SPECIFIC troubleshoot page for THAT error. Thx BUT =as-said, I've tried ALL the suggestions - including reading through the link you just suggested/posted (but just for good measure, i've just re-read thru it again!). I noticed from this list the first time i read thru it, that Error 23 didn't appear anywhere on this list of various (numerous!) error numbers. So/ergo, i still don't know (a) what exactly this error IS, (b) how to fix/get past/resolve it.
I don't have an Apple store anywhere near me. Even if I did, I wonder whether they would (a) be willing to (b) able to fix it @ the so-called Genius bar? Any thoughts on this? (Obviously, if there were an Apple store nearby, I'd go there & try; as-is, it would entail an extra trip & an expense costing as much as buying a new iPhone!)

Restore goes through but then not working

I have an odd problem with my ipod touch 4g.
I did a restore, then a restore from backup, it goes through after about 30 minutes, and when it restarts, the ipod has no apps and data, just the built-in apps as if the device was setup new. When I do another restore from backup, I get the same result - takes forever to finish restore, after restart the ipod is still empty. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you go to Settings>General>About does it show content on the iPod? Also, when you go to the Apps pane under Devices (your iPod) in iTunes does it show content? This fix worked for updating to iOD 4.2.1 and may work for 4.3.1. Someone else posted the same problem today also.

HT4534 my computer will allow me to call using facetime but won't accept calls

My Computer will allow me to call using facetime but will not allow the same person to call me. It says person is unavailable on their computer with nothing on mine

I have a similar issue on my Macbook Pro, running Mountain Lion. Facetime works perfectly on my iPhone 4, and also works great between my iPad 2 and my phone. The problem is when I make a call to my Macbook from my iPad, there is no "accept" button, only an "end" button, and two grayed out icons for muting and enlarging.
The only option it gives me is to end the call. There is no problem going out from my Macbook to my iPad, or to my phone, or from my phone to my Macbook. The problem only occurs when I call from my iPad to my Macbook. You may ask why I would want to do this, but I want to have a larger screen than on my phone, when I am away from my family, and would like them to call from the iPad.

Recently, Firefox updated, page opens but then nothing, it will not continue and load up

I have Firefox browser on my laptop. It upgraded recently and does not work. Page will come up but then 'not responding' and remains that way.

You can try to delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

In the past when I have updated successfully, the spinning circle would show me an indicator of time left on the update. I no longer have this Indicator. The circle just spins and times out and nothing happens. I've reset the iPad in the settings menu, reset the router, logged in and out of Apple id, powered ithe iPad off and on, and tried a couple other "fixes" that I've read online. So far no luck. How much free space do you have? If it is low, installers may not be able to run properly.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Home Sharing in iTunes. I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
4. Check your network connection
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.
In addition, verify that:
All your devices are connected to the same router, if you have multiple routers. Using multiple routers may prevent discovery between these devices.
Your devices are not using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), or that they are all on the same VPN. A VPN may isolate the device and cause connectivity disruptions.
If you have a router set up with a guest network, make sure all devices are either connected to the guest network and devices on the guest network are allowed to communicate with each other, or switch all devices to the primary network on your router.
If your computer is asleep or shutdown, or iTunes is closed, there's no access to the shared iTunes library. Wake up or start the computer and open iTunes to regain access to that library.
Your router needs to be up-to-date. If you are using an AirPort or Time Capsule, read this article to find out more about firmware updates. If you are using a router from another manufacturer, contact the manufacturer to inquire about available updates.
5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu >System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
Block all incoming connections
Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
If connectivity issues persist, quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, quit and reopen the apps on your iOS device.
7. Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the method recommended in documentation from the manufacturer. This may include disconnecting the power cord for thirty seconds or more.
Note: During this period, Internet services such as a VoIP-based phone will not work, and any additional routers may need to be reset in sequence.

When I quit itunes it restarts again with the dot under the itunes logo but the iTunes window doesn't open until I click the icon on the dock. Also in the middle of the size vale in the size column the value starts with a number then a ? then a number.
