Allowing popup exception for local javascript files ("file://")

I use Firefox to write local applications on my laptop. When doing so the URL always begins with file:///. When a local document is opened the output of document.domain is "domain." If I disable popup blocker my local html based application creates a new browser window and then two additional windows are opened in new tabs. This is what I want but I do not want to disable popup blocker, I want to add an exception. If popup blocker is enabled then only the new browser window is displayed.

AFAIK then you can't make an exception for links opened via the file:// protocol <br />
You need to open such links via http://localhost

  • Why does firefox keep allowing popup windows for Local Yellowbook Pages by Yellowbook even tho I have popups disabled on my computer?

    this pop up comes up any old time, not when i'm clicking another link or anything - i can just be reading a page, or be on facebook, anything, and it comes up and suggests something out of the blue, like "search for your local state college doctors on yellowbook". (example: here is a URL it just brought up in a popup while i was just reading facebook: http://ypeek.yellowbook.com/yellow-pages/?what=doctors&where=state+college%2C+pa)
    I definitely did NOT download anything from Yellowbook and in fact NEVER use it, so that makes this very strange. Also, my brother-in-law (a computer programmer) ran software checks on my computer and cleaned everything up, and there were no viruses, etc. but this still happens.
    can you help or advise? thank you!

  • NAS / Cloud solution that allows offline support for most commonly used files.

    Hi All,
    I bought a Macbook Air because I love to travel light.  Sadly because of the lack of disk space I struggle to store everything. I live by the 80/20 rule and recognise that I use 20% of the files 80% of the time.
    I would like to store all my files (music, photos, etc.) in the cloud or on NAS. I would then like Air to automatically store a subset of files stored locally based on  limits I set (favourites, certain photos albums, playlists, and most commonly used files) aka the 20% of files I use 80% of the time.  I would then like it so that if I was connected to the internet, I could access any file (without having to use some alternative application / website to access them).
    Does anyone know of a way to do this?

  • How can I allow popups only for specific sites in Safari 7.1?

    I have popups blocked by default, but need to allow them for specific sites at work.  How can I do this without allowing them for all sites?

    It's all or nothing with Block pop-up windows selected in Safari > Preferences > Security.

  • Creating IPv6 firewall exceptions for several machines

    Hi,
    I've just set up my Airport Extreme (802.11n) with my new IPv6 tunnel (SixXS). I have a /48 prefix, all my home computers are individually pingable, all have forward and reverse DNS, my name appears on WHOIS for both the domain and IP address range.
    I'm very happy. My 20 years of masquerading are over!
    Now, when configuring the IPv6 firewall on the AE, I'd like to setup an exception, say SSH, for all machines on my network.
    When I enter an exception such as this (anonymized, RFC 3849):
    IPv6 address: 2001:db8:1234:0:260d:cd3f:fc81:2a0f
    TCP port(s): 22
    UDP port(s):
    This works fine. But, it would be logical that the following would also work:
    IPv6 address: 2001:db8:1234::/64
    TCP port(s): 22
    UDP port(s):
    Meaning that connections to TCP port 22 would be allowed to any address in that subnet. However, it doesn't.
    Now, is this a feature which is not present in the current firmware of the AE?
    Or am I doing it the wrong way?
    Really, I hope it's the second alternative. Or else, I will have to add an exception to every single host. Now, it's not that I have a lot of machines. There are six nodes on my network. FreeBSD, Linux and a couple of macs.
    But if you multiply that by the number of services that each machine will support, say 3-6, you get 18 to 36 exceptions on the firewall.
    Now, it's doable, of course. I can enter say 24 individual exceptions.
    However, a list of 24 is a lot harder to manage and to look at in the small box of the airport utility's interface, than a list of 6 exceptions would be.
    I would feel safer maintaining a small list.
    The AE allows an exception for ALL ports of a single machine. And that would be an option I would rather not use.
    Anyone?

    This appears to have been fixed in firmware 7.4

    I loaded Mac OS X v10.7 Lion yesterday. Everything’s running fine, except for a simple problem. Any time I want to copy a file, JPEG, etc., I am prompted “Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this.” I don’t want this!! Is there a way to unlock “Finder” or rid this process?

    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
    That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Popup window for downloading a file

    Hi,
    my dear users want me to do the impossible possible. My code generates an XML file which in time I displayed it in an Iframe in the application. When the standard popup window shows up, they can either Open, Save or Cancel it. This was allright.
    Now they want the file in a new window displayed (when they press Open), because opening the file in the same window means they leave the application and after reading the file, they have to start the application again. I do it like this:
    The code works perfect only with the Alert instructions. Once I delete it, the window is opened and inmediately closed. The popup window for the file does not show up.
    Thanks for your ideas.

    here is the code sample.
    1. user clicks a button in the main page , which will generate xml and show the same in a new window.
    page attributes
    display_url     TYPE     STRING
    file_mime_type     TYPE     STRING
    flights     TYPE     FLIGHTTAB     Table for SFLIGHT
    wf_xml     TYPE     XSTRING
    layout:
    <%@page language="abap" %>
    <%@extension name="htmlb" prefix="htmlb" %>
    <htmlb:content design="design2003" >
      <htmlb:page title=" " >
        <htmlb:form>
          <htmlb:textView text   = "Hello World!"
                          design = "EMPHASIZED" />
          <htmlb:button text    = "Press Me"
                        onClick = "myClickHandler" />
          <%
      IF  display_url IS NOT INITIAL.
          %>
          <script language="Javascript">
            window.open("<%= display_url%>").focus();
          </script>
          <%
      ENDIF.
          %>
        </htmlb:form>
      </htmlb:page>
    </htmlb:content>
    oninputprocessing code.
    data: cached_response type ref to if_http_response.
    data: guid type guid_32.
    CALL TRANSFORMATION (`ID`)
                SOURCE flights   = flights[]
                RESULT XML wf_xml.
    file_mime_type = 'text/xml' .
    create object cached_response type cl_http_response exporting add_c_msg = 1.
      cached_response->set_data( wf_xml ).
      cached_response->set_header_field( name  = if_http_header_fields=>content_type
                                         value = file_mime_type ).
      cached_response->set_status( code = 200 reason = 'OK' ).
      cached_response->server_cache_expire_rel( expires_rel = 180 ).
      call function 'GUID_CREATE'
        importing
          ev_guid_32 = guid.
      concatenate runtime->application_url '/' guid into display_url.
      cl_http_server=>server_cache_upload( url      = display_url
                                           response = cached_response ).
      return.
    2.user clicks a button in the main page , which will generate xml and present the user with a option to save locally or cancel. (in this case no additional browser window will be opened - only a popup and also the main page is not affected)
    layout code:
    same as option 1.
    oninputprocesing code.
    everything is same except change
    file_mime_type = 'text/xml' .
    to
    file_mime_type = 'application/oct-stream' .
    Note: wf_xml is of type xstring which holds the xml stream.

  • Firefox 4.0 support for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript

    I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and can no longer print embedded PDF documents contained in an iFrame.
    My company's web application has several pages which load PDF files from a Servlet into an iFrame. The pages in question all have "Print" buttons which when clicked executes a JavaScript function to obtain reference to the iframe containing the PDF, place it into focus() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].focus();), and invoke print() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].print();). There are no errors, or exceptions caught when the JavaScript function is invoked, but the "Print" button is no longer operational.
    Does Firefox 4.0 no longer support iFrames? The issue goes away if I revert back to ver 3.6.16

    I have same issue for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript in Firefox 5.0.
    In previous versions it was working fine. But not in Firefox 4.0/5.0.
    Is there any solution for this problem?

  • Cookie preference not remembered for local html files

    I use Firefox's very useful "ask every time" cookie screening facility and have selected "Use my choice for all cookies from this site". However, it will not remeber my preference for local files.
    The Adobe Acrobat Editor's help uses html files on my PC's local C: drive. Whenever this is launched Firefox always displays a "Confirm setting cookie" message "The site file:// wants to modify an existing cookie." 16 times before the html is fully displayed and at least once every time I select a link within the html.
    Firefox's address bar displays:
    "file:///C:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Help/en_US/Acrobat Pro/9.0/help.html"
    How can I avoid this annoying, time-consuming behaviour with local files whilst still screening cookies for internet sites?

    I've tried variations of the theme of "http://localhost/" like:
    "http://localhost/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Help/en_US/Acrobat Pro/9.0/help.html" in the Firefox address, desktop shortcuts and cookies exceptions. These all result in errors.
    What browser address should I use instead of:
    "file:///C:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Help/en_US/Acrobat Pro/9.0/help.html"?

  • Applet showDocument not working for local files!!

    Hello:
    I wrote a signed applet that is generates html files in user temp folder (for my Win 7: C:\Users\ren\AppData\Local\Temp\jTmp\ )
    The applet is supposed to display the html files in browser by using showDocument().
    I tested it on firefox 25 and IE9 enabling pop-up windows
    However, it does nothing. Not even an exception.
    The applet fails  when running from web (but works in c:\)
    For the case, it happens the same with oracle's sample: Displaying Documents in the Browser (The Java&amp;trade; Tutorials &amp;gt;                    Deployment &amp;gt; Java …
    In this applet, if you input a local file (file:///c:/ etc) , it won't open it.
    I supposed showDocument was not subject to security restrictions, but seems the new rule is:
    -applets running locally will display all pages (web/local)
    -applets running from the web will display only web pages.
    My applet used to work fine, but in some jre7 upgrade it was broken!!
    Is this a bug or a new security issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    Did you get this resolved..
    I am using Internet Explorer v. 5.2 on Mac OS X v.10.2.8. I have successfully run an applet, using jre 1.3.1 which implements the "showDocument" method and opens a new page.
    Could you post your code..

    Hello! I have one iTunes library on my iPod and one iTunes library on my computer. When I connect my iPod touch to my PC, however, I cannot find any files in my iPod except for pictures. How can I find the music files so I can add them to my iTunes?

    You can't do that.
    And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

  • I have a new hard drive as my old one crashed. Everything seemed to transfer fine except for my entire iTunes library. It shows all of my old songs, but when I click on one it states "the song could not be used as the original file could not be found

    I have a new hard drive as my old one crashed. Everything seemed to transfer fine except for my entire iTunes library. It shows all of my old songs, but when I click on one it states "the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.would you like to locate it".
    Either how do I locate it, and I've tried every trick I know, or how do I restore all of my songs from one of two sources. I have my old hard drive backedup on an external drive which should have all of my songs, and I have most of my songs on my old iPhone 3S which I'm using as a backup iPod.

    The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
    In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
    If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

  • I just installed Lion to my iMac. Every thing works like before except for iTunes. When I clicked on it, it said the iTunes file could not be found, and that there was a new version of iTunes. I said to install it, but then I get a box saying it is waitin

    I just installed Lion  and everything works fine except for iTunes. It says it cannot find my iTunes file, then asks if I want the latest version of iTunes. I clck yes, then get a box saying it is waiting for other downloads to complete. That box just sits there as I have no other downloads waiting. How do I get my music back? Actually it is all my wives', and I want to get it back for her. Any help will be appreciated.

    This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.

If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
    Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

    In addition to Mike's suggestions,  you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.
