Allowing Users only SINGLE POINT of Access?

Hi everyone,
We recently purchased the Mac Mini and this is our first time utilizing and managing FTP/serverside commands and settings.
My question my be relatively elementary for the more expereienced but:
Is it possible to restrict users so that they may only log into the Server/FTP and access the files/data from a single touch point?
If so how do you do achieve this function/restriction?
Potential scenario would be allowing a user account to access the server from only one computer at once, not use the same login to access from multiple computers simultaneously.
We are currently running OS X Maveric 10.9.3
Thank you in advanced for any tips and guidance.

Hi Santy,
Yes, I have gone through the link you have shared.
Also, I read the content from the Release Notes of Version 11.1.2.0 and it says like below.
"Essbase now supports active-passive failover without Oracle Clusterware. You can use EPM System Configurator to configure Essbase in an active-passive failover configuration with write-back capability. For more information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide and the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System High Availability Guide."
My queries with regards to the above content is:
1) Is Essbase Version 11.1.2.0 Supports only Active-Passive Failover in UNIX Environment? Won't it supports Active-Active Failover?
2) Is this approach (Active-Passive) is suitable in my case as the cubes in my project are being used for  Reporting Purpose only? Data Write back is not required but Active-Passive has this feature. I think, we can control the data write back by using Filters though this fail-over approach enables data write-back.
3) We have EAL & DSS implemented in the current project. These are used to refresh/create the Essbase Database from the HFM Repository. Does the Fail-over supports in this case?
4) I tried to access the installation and configuration Guide of Version 11.1.2.0 but seems this has been removed from the document repository. Do you suggest any other link to download this document?
It will be much helpful if you could clarify them, please.
Thanks
UB.

  • Single points of failure?

So, we are looking into the xServe RAID, and I'd like some insight into making things as bulletproof as possible.
Right now we plan to have:
a load balancer and a failover load balancer (running on cheap BSD hardware, since hardware load balancers are so damned expensive) feeding into
two application servers, which communicate with
one back-end server, which serves as both a database server and an NFS server for the app servers
And the volumes that will be NFS-mounted would be on our xServe RAID, which would be connected directly to the back-end server.
The networking hardware would all be failover through multiple switches and cards and so forth.
The idea here is to avoid as many single points of failure as possible. Unfortunately at the moment we don't have a DBA who is fluent in clustering, so we can't yet get rid of the back-end server as a single point of failure. (Which is also why I'm mounting the RAID on it and sharing via NFS... if the database goes down, it won't matter that the file service is down too.) However, in the current setup, there's one other failure point: the RAID controllers on the xServe RAID.
Performance is less important to us on this than reliability is. We can't afford two RAID units at the moment, but we can afford one full of 500 gig drives, and we really only need about 4 TB of storage right now, so I was thinking of setting up drive 0 on controller 0 and drive 0 on controller 1 as a software RAID mirror, and the same with drive 1, etc. As far as I understand it, this eliminates the RAID controllers as a single point of failure, and as far as I know they are at least supposedly the only single point of failure in the xServe RAID system. (I could also do RAID 10 that way, but due to the way we store files, that wouldn't buy us anything except added complexity.)
And later on, down the road, when we have someone good enough to figure out how to cluster the database, if I understand correctly, we can spend the money get a fibre switch or hub or whatever they call it and mount the RAID on the two (application server) systems that actually use it, thus cutting out the middle man NFS service. (I am under the impression that this sort of volume-sharing is possible via FC... is that correct?)
Comments? Suggestions? Corrections to my misapprehentions?

Really? Assuming you're using fourteen 500GB drives this will give you seven volumes mounted on the server, each a 500GB mirror split on the two controllers. That's fine from a redundancy standpoint, but it ***** from the standpoint of managing seven direct mountpoints on the server, as well as seven NFS shares, and 14 NFS mount points on the clients. Not to mention file allocations between the volumes, etc.
If your application is such that it's easy to dictate which volume any particular file should be on and you don't mind managing all those volumes, go ahead, otherwise consider creating two RAID 5 volumes, one on each controller, using RAID 1 to mirror them on the back-end server and exporting a single NFS share to the clients/front-end servers.
Quite simple, actually. But admittedly, two RAID 5s RAID-1-ed together would be much more efficient, space-wise.

Yes, although you'll need another intermediate server as the metadata controller to arbitrate connections from the two machines. It becomes an expensive option, but your performance will increase, as will the ease with which you can expand your storage network (adding more storage as well as more front-end clients).
But then that means that the metadata controller is a single point of failure...?

  • Allowing user to access only documents created by him.

Hi!, is there a way to allow users to read only the documents created by them?, so when they click on the browse data buttons on top they navigate through the documents created only by the specific user?

  • Allow user to access /edit/delete/add specific items in list

    Hi
    I have one custom list.
every month department head is creating some activity because of which some items are getting added in that list pragmatically.
    like-
    departmentID item1
    item2
    DEPT001 item001
    item002
    DEPT001 item003
    item001
    DEPT002 item004
    item001
After that User want to edit or delete or add new entries only related to their department only.
How can allow user to edit/delete or add entries (full control) only related to his department in the same list?
How can I assign users for this?
Should I create another list having department id and user mapping?
    please suggest any soln.

    The flow is like,
User(Dept head/department user)will select department from drop down and clik on button to add some entries against the department.
once the entries done he just click on save button.
after some time if department head/department user want to add/edit/delete some entries against his department then he should able to view only his deapartment entries.
Also the email is generated to his manager.
So my question is how should I allow user to view his own entires only which should be available for him to add/edit/delete.?
If I create one list of department  and on adding the entries against each department I will add departmentID for every entry so that I can filter them by department.
but how to allow users for those entries? If I added user for each entry and if any department user changed then I have to change his name from all entries for that department. If the entries are more than 50 or 100 then it will be very difficuelt to handle.
Also for multiple users for single department this is very difficuelt to provide access.
is there any alternate solution for it?

  • File server 2008 R2 Multiple share folder , single user show only single folder , not show any other folder

I've installed windows 2008 standard r2 server. 2. Configured a domain. 3. Joined 10 clients to the server. 4. Created shared folders on the sever restricting to users. (ex.USERNAME:system01 can access a shared folder:system01 only) 5. I need to give the
below permissions only. Please let me know the permission combination. Read / write / modify - allow access Delete / cut and copy from server - deny access Basically elaborating  the current scenario. 1.Server has multiple shared folders where the users
are asked to put in their data
host name :system01 user logging in:system01 shared folder for the user in server:system01 so is for others also. 2.Example ,system01,system02,system03. Only user 'system01'
will be able to access 'system01' shared folder so is others too. System01 show only single share folder at system 3.Basically to avoid all kind of confusion I have named host name of systems also the same way.

    Hi,
When you grant users "read" permission, then copying is possible and if you grant users "modify" permissions, they can also have "cut" permissions.
The 'system01' share folder is created by user 'system01'? If so, you could grant "creator owner" permissions to configure users only can access their own folder.
    Best Regards,
    Mandy

  • How can I allow users to access SQLPLUS?

    Hi everyone,
I have been charged with the task of creating an Oracle server on a CentOS VM. Installation and configuration is complete and SQL is working fine for the database admin user "oracle." I copied the environment variables to the .bashrc file for "oracle" and SQLPLUS starts without a hitch.
Here is where I need a little guidance...
I need to create basic Linux user accounts that will have access to the database, so they can then in turn log into their SQLPLUS accounts. The problem is, all of the database files and software are in located in the user "oracle's" directory. This means that no one but "oracle" and root have access to these files because they are the only ones with proper permissions.
Before I put a ton of time into this, I thought I would pose these questions to the Oracle Linux community:
    1) Could I enable a specific Linux group (ex. "Oracle Users") to have access to the main database folder or possibly all folders along the path? I am hoping this would allow any users I put in the group access to the folders, and essentially the SQLPLUS application. (here is ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1)
    2) If that is not an option, will I need to make a completely new database and locate it in a location that all users can access?
I understand that my first idea may not be the SAFEST method, but this is only for a small class of students learning how to use SQL and writing queries. There will be no sensitive information at risk. This would be a quick fix until I learned more about Oracle and how to use it.
    Thank you everyone.

It certainly is rather a question for the General Database forum, though I doubt you will get a lot of happy replies for such a basic question.
You can use / as sysdba OS authentication through SSH or using the server console, provided the user's account belongs to the "dba" user group. For remote connection through sqlnet you need create a $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw$SID password file.
If you would like to know more about this:
Connecting / as sysdba is used for OS authentication. It ignores password credentials stored in the database and allows any user belonging to the OSDBA system group to connect to the database. Connections as sysdba will always connect to the SYS schema of the database, regardless of any username or password specified. Using OS authentication relies on the BEQ protocol, which connects to the database directly, without using the Oracle Listener process.
The "oinstall" group will give access to the database software repository. There could be different oracle home installations, each with a different oracle user/owner like "oracle_prod1" and "oracle_prod2", but both users must be able to read/write the shared oraInventory, in which case both users must have read and write access to the oraInventory directory, hence the oinstall group.

  • How do I allow users to create folders in a shared folder where we all then have read/write access to those new folders?

I have three users who need to access a particular folder on one of our other Macs. The folder resides on the desktop of that particular Mac and it is set as "shared" with all of our accounts set to access the folder. When a user creates a new subfolder in that shared folder, the permissions are instantly set to allow the creator read/write access but the other users are only allowed read-only access. Is there a way to set the permissions so that any new folder created in that shared folder automatically gives read/write access to all accounts who are authorized access to that shared folder?

You should be able to take the permissions you have set and "apply to enclosed items." I am trying to attach a picture of what this looks like so my apologies if it does not work.
Highlight your folder you want and go to File>Get Info or command+I and at the bottom where it has Sharing and Permissions, click the lock button to authenticate. Click the gear and click "apply to enclosed items". See if that works.

  • How do I set all users to have complete permission access to all other users on a single Macbook?

How do I set all users to have complete permission access to all other users on a single Macbook?  When one user uploads a picture from camera, the other user is told they don't have permission to view.  Same with music.

Go to System preference> accouts>unlock>click+and add name of new user, Adrop dowm window will appear, new Account and set for Admi, fill in their name, to make things even more simple, use the same password for all,if it will allow it. Click ceate account. Click allow user to admin this computer. Then go to sys prefs, sharing and click all the things you want to let everyone use, If you use separeate paswords then each user can set their own preferences. All users can be set as as administrator, click allow access for all users. This will allow every one pretty much the same access.
OH yeah reart the computer sfter added a new user, and test the new login, if it's good coninue.

  • Restricting only single user to update a webpage at a time?

    Hi,
I have a requirement where in I need to restrict only single user at a time to access a webpage(generated by servlet).
One way I could think of is using servlet filters but I have WAS 4.0 which doesnt support it.
Is there any other way that I can implement this??

You can just use a Servlet instead of Filter.

  • Recording video/audio files using Flash Meida Server through rmtp, and allow users to access the recorded files through http.

As titled, what is the way to record video/audio files using Flash Meida Server through rmtp, and allow users to access the recorded files through http?
What I am trying to do, is to record a user's microphone's input and save it to the server. Afterwards, I would like other users to be able to access the recorded files and mainuplating the audio data, by computeSpectrum(), to do some visualization of the audio. As I know computeSpectrum() cannot work on streaming files, so I think I need to access the recorded files using http instead of rmtp. Is that true?
How can I redirect the http request to the files I was recorded into my applications/appName folder? Or I need to somehow moved the recorded files to the /webroot folder?
    Thanks!

I probably have asked a stupid question.
My recorded streams are still saved in the applications/appName/streams folder.
And I redirect the www.mydomain.com/streams to point to the applications/appName/streams folder.
And the rmtp recorded streams are abled to connect through http now.

  • OBIEE access denied for some users only

    Hi All,
we are using OBIEE 10.1.3.4 version on windows envorinment .The users can access the OBIEE reports using 'PORTALPATH' session varible in RPD.For some of the users are got "access denied" while they are accessing for thir particular dashboard.Eariler these user got access this dashboard with out any errors. We dnt changed in our system anything from last three months.
We have no idea why we are getting these error for particular users only. Its Prod issue we need to reslove these error ASAP.
we are getting these error"acess denied for user to path/shared/shared/_test/testdashboard
    Error Codes:09XNZMXB"
but last one year its working without any issues .From our side we dnt did any changes in production like RPD level,Catalog level and config file changes , we have no idea why suddenly we are getting these kind of error for some users only not for all users.
Could u please advice me how to reslove this PROD issueASAP.
    Thanks,

Well its Prod (you have a dashboard called testdashboard in Prod?) anyway - someone might have changed the presentation catalogue permissions on the dashboard. All it takes is for someone to remove 'Everyone' or change a Group permission and it could effect.
If they changed the Parent folder and cascaded the changes down this might cause this issue.
You have a folder called 'Shared' - check the groups that the people are in have 'Traverse' , 'Read' or higher. Also chek dashboard permissions themselves from Settings-Manage Interactive Dashboards - Check the Padlock icon.
Are you users getting allocated into the correct WEBGROUPS ? Is this assisngment done explicitly in the webcat or via an RPD Variable ? Have you checked NQQueryl.log to make sure any init blocks are completing successfully?
Either persmissions have changed or group memebership is not completing.
    Good luck
