Alltel to Verizon and the Connect bundle? What are my phone options on this?

Hey guys! I've been reading around and I've found similar answers to my problem, but not the exact issue. Like most of you, I still have the Alltel contract(and it's staying that way) and it has a Connect plan for $19.99 on my line only. I'm wanting to upgrade to a new phone, but I'm not sure which Verizon phone will work with my plan. I'm not going to let them force me to upgrade, or I'm going straight to At&t down the road.
Now, the upgrade option on the site lists alot of phones that are compatible with my current plan, but the team members in the stores say I am required to upgrade to a Verizon contract, which is $30 more(again, I will not do this, nor will I tolerate corporate theft). Somehow I don't think this is true and the talking suits are just doing their usual slave routine for commission(instead of getting a real job).
That's something else I won't tolerate! =)
What phones have you guys been able to activate on the $19.99 Alltel Connect plan? I currently have a Samsung Intensity. It's just a basic qwerty pad phone.

The Connect bundle plans will not work on Smartphone devices. Some feature phones may work with your existing plan. To view our feature phones, please visit the link below:

To upgrade to a new device online, please follow the steps below:
Sign-in to My Verizon.
Locate the I Want To... section.
In the DEVICE column, click Upgrade Device.
Select the line you wish to upgrade. 
Click Continue.
Optional:  Filter the devices by Category, Brand/OS, Style, Color, Features, and/or Price.
Use the drop down menu to Sort By Featured, Rating, Price, etc.
Use the Pricing For drop down menu to select Month to Month or contract length.
Click Add to Cart.
Note:  If a Buy One Get One or similar promotion applies to the device selected, a pop-up window will display after the first device is added to the cart, asking what other line(s) the customer would like to upgrade.  Then the process continues as below for each of the lines to be upgraded.
Click Continue to Select Features.
Select the desired features.
Click Select Features and Services.
Check Continue to Select Accessories.
Click the hyperlink for the desired accessory.
Click Add to Cart.
Click Continue to Checkout.
The Review Your Changes screen displays.
Click Submit Changes.
The Shopping Cart screen displays.
Click Continue to Checkout.
Enter billing and shipping information.
Click Continue.
Enter payment information.
Click Continue.
The Review Your Order screen displays.
Click Submit Order.
The Order Confirmation screen displays.
