Almost 2GB of 'other' files on iPhone?

Is this normal? If not is there anyway to fix it?

My others has been up to almost 4gb.. People have said its because of a sync that was cancelled causing a corrupt database.
The way I got mine back down to under 1gb was to make sure all the apps that saved files such as pictures and videos were cleared - Supr8 had loads of videos still in the app that id already transfered to my computer!
then I synced my phone without syncing any music to it, and then resynced with the music.
others went back down to 0.87gb

Just to be clear, are you saying that your music is no longer found in iTunes? Regarding whatsapp, from what I have read in the forum, it is temporarily not available at this time.

  • What are "other files" on iphone?

    Hello
I am trying to delete the other files from my iPhone so I can download the new update, but I havent got a clue how to delete them...what are they? And how can I get rid of them?
    Thanks
    Claire

Could be favorites, history, voicemail, etc.
It is normal to have a gb or less of other.  More than this indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • My Macintosh HD is almost full of 'other' files?

    Hey.
I have a 13" Macbook Pro that has 4 GB of memory, and recently it has been notifying me that my disk space is almost full. I thought this to be rather odd, seeing as I barely save anything onto my computer except for music and any necessary files. Everything else goes onto flash drives and external memory disks. I looked at the space on my Macintosh HD drive (which was the drive that was nearing capacity) and almost the entire disk drive was full of 'other' files. I have no idea what to do, because I can't find these 'other' files and it's starting to concern me.
    Thanks.

I don't think you are correct with the drive size? My guess is the drive size is 500 GB.
If you have only 2.31 GB free on a 500 GB drive, no wonder your Mac is having troubles. You should never let the free space go below 15 % which in your case is 75 GB.
Do you have Time Machine enabled?

  • Loading powerpoint and other files onto iPhone

How do I load or transfer a powerpoint file or other files onto the iPhone? It works with iTouch.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if enabling disk mode and saving email attachments is made available at some point, there will be no charge for this.
When the App Store becomes available, Apple will not charge 3rd party developers for hosting applications provided by developers as a free download.
There will be no charge by Apple for licensing ActiveSync from Microslop for the iPhone, which will provide over the air syncing for contact information and calender events for an Exchange account, and push email access for an Exchange account.
I venture to say there are valid reasons for these current limitations and like it or not, there is usually a method behind what seems like madness to some, which eventually comes to light. I'll take Apple's continuing success with their major "flaws" every day of the week and twice on Sunday. 2nd to RIM in sales/market share for the U.S. smart phone market after only 6 months.

  • How to remove "other" files from iphone memory

Concerning how the memory is used on the Iphones under the "other" category, I have found that the biggest culprit is text messages that include photos and videos sent and received. Think about it, when you take a picture and then send it, even though you delete it from your camera roll, it is still necessary to hold in memeory as being part of the text history. It is only removed from the phone when you delete it from the text message as well. This also applies to text messages received. This is a large hidden area to most people!
    good luck.

Restore the iOS.  You may have to do this as a new phone (without using a backup).  Note that "other" contains messages and emails - if you have a lot of these, especially with photos/videos, that would account for the other usage.

  • HT1689 What is in the others file on iPhone

How do I deleat files on the others on iPhone

You can't directly. Others contains all kinds of system and corrupted data but if your Others > 1 GB then to bring it down, you have to restore as new.

  • How to delete previously deleted files off iphone PERMANENTLY from database

Someone I happen to know hacked my iPhone 4s. They took my iPhone when I left it out. They plugged it into their Macbook and used software I beleive called Wondershare Data Recovery, to raid my phone and go through confidential files I had previously deleted on my phone. They went through text messages, photos and files that were personally confidential to myself. They made it aware they did this because they personal told me they would continue "tracking" what I do on my phone because my files will be backed up onto their computer. I was also made aware that after I decided to put a password on my phone, the person told me "It doesnt matter if you put a password on the phone since my phone is now ENCRYPTED with the laptop".
My first question is how do I go about this situation. Is there a program i can use to fully erase all the "deleted" files i thought were deleted previously on my phone? Is there a data base i can PERMANENTLY delete my files from so they can never be acessed in a data base in the future?
How do I make sure i dont continue to get stalked by this "close friend" in the future?

If you have permanently deleted iPhone file thoroughly, No one can get you personal information and data from iPhone, after you sell, donate or give it away.
To permanently delete photo, video and other files on iPhone, you can use a iPhone data eraser, there are some iPhone data eraser software in the market, but few can be completely and permanently delete the data on iPhone, even if data has been cleared, some professional iPhone data recovery software can recover them later.

  • Clearing the "other" on my iPhone?

I have 6.2GB of "other" on my iPhone, and I really want to clear that up.
    Things I've tried:
        -delete texts/emails/browser history and cookies
        -manual restore/back-up
        -delete apps and redownload
None of them seemed to reduce it at all.
    Anything else I can do?
    Thanks!

You can still make a back up of it just Incase through iCloud or iTunes. DFU restore the phone and restore from backup and see is issue is still there after the restore. If not then you should be good to go. If issue is still there then you have to restore and set up as new iPhone and re download your apps and music.

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

  • Why is the Other file so large on my iPhone - nearly 5 GB.

I have a 32 GB iphone 5s. I'm running out of space.  In syncing with my computer, it shows the different file groups (audio, video, photos, etc.), and the "Other" file is nearly 5 GB.  Why is it that big, and what is it all?  Also is there a way to reduce it in size?

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
    Probably a few I've missed.
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

  • My 16GB iPhone 4S has 4.40GB of "other" file. What does this include and how do I reduce it? Kindly help me.

Text messages, MMS messages, email, music catalog, operating system settings, safari cache, siri cache, Genius data (if enabled), game center data -- esentially everything on your phone that isn't explicitely listed in the bar chart at the bottom of iTunes on your computer.
Sometimes there is also data corruption on the phone that ends up in Other. To get rid if it try restoring the phone with iTunes. If that makes no difference the corruption is in your backup; restore again as a new phone, then add content back.

  • Mac Mini, the main hard drive is almost full with a file type "other." what is it and how do i get rid of it

I have a Mac Mini 'server.' it has 2 500gb hard drvies, the main drive has 440gb of 'other' files on it. when i restart my computer it looses another gig or 2 to the 'other file.'
how do i get rid of it? it is something that appears on the iphone and ipad as well.
    any idea's
    thanks

The 'other' is unlikely to be a single file in a single folder, it could be thousands of files. You are therefore going to need to track the culprite down more.
There are utilities you can buy that will visually show you which folder is the biggest. However you can also do this in Terminal.app free of charge.
If you launch Terminal.app from the Utilities folder then do the following commands -
    sudo du -h -d1 /
This will show which folder at the top level of your boot disk is the biggest i.e. contains the culprite. You then need to
    cd bigdirectory
    and do
    sudo du -h -d1 .
(the full stop at the end is needed)
Which will do another check in the bigdirectory and let you see which sub folder or file is the culprite, you may have to repeat this a few times till you find what you are looking for.

  • When syncing iPhone 4 with new update songs turn into "other" files

    Hello,
Yesterday i upgraded the iphone software to ios7, after doing this everything was working well but when it tried to sync my music files from itunes it said it was syncing music file until the iphone had synced completely when they turned into "other" files.  I ahve tried restoring it but nothing has worked and it keeps happeneing.  Was wondering if anyone was also having this problem and could point me in the right direction.
    Thank you inadvance.

So far there is no fix, there are many threads on this topic and many people with this problem. We are all ticked off and Apple needs to fix this ASAP. They don't seem to care.
