Almost all songs are still on iPhone though iTunes match is active

Hello Togehther,
since some months I have iTunes Match active, and in principle it works fine. But I'm wondering, why it works as it does, at least for me:
on my iPad the entire music library was replaced with iTunes Match active (I think, this is, how it is supposed to work)
on my iPhone though, almost all titles are still sitting in the memory of the phone (12.4GB), and only few are just in the cloud. Even more strange: all titles are shown twice, once the "physical" one on the iPhone, and next to it again with the cloud symbol.
Any explanation for this strange behavior?
Thanks for your help.
Gerhard

I agree iTunes is counterintuitive and confusing.  Poorly designed - it seems to be getting less user-friendly with each iteration.  It feels more like a Windows program each time there is a significant new version.
With respect to this particular problem, I had (or thought I had) the same issue. I wanted to put songs on the iPhone but couldn't, even after turning off iTunes match on the computer.  For me, the problem turned out to be that iTunes match was off in iTunes on the computer, but was still switched on on my iPhone.  On the iPhone, I went to Settings>iTunes and App Store>iTunes Match and switched it off.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thrid-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - The try syncing. If you synced last time with this computer you should not a have a problem.

I have an iphone 4s ios 7.0.2. Before updating to the latest ios i had songs in my iphone. after updating also it was there, but when i wanted to put more songs through itunes in my iphone , i synced with itunes first with my iphone. Then i pressed sync all songs and then itunes said that all songs had been synced. But in my iphone it showed me that there is no songs at all and i have to download it from itunes store. The songs which i had also went from my iphone. I dont know what happened. I updated my itunes to the latest one 11.1.1. But still no change . Can anyone tell me what is the problem. What to do?

    Hello babichanjacob
Change how it syncs by enabling Manually manage music and videos, then you can drag and drop the music that you want on your iPhone. Revert it back to test to see if that resolves the issue.

  • My harddrive crashed but the Geek Squad said they saved my music.  All 1581 songs are still listed in my iTunes, but can

Geek Squad saved my music, but now when i try listening to a playlist, 19 out of 23 songs cannot be found.  the message states the song couldn't be used because the original file could not be found.  I;m then asked if i want to locate it.  WHen I choose Yes, it just takes me back to my iTunes.
Any ideas?  I don't want to lose all of my music.
    Thanks!

Depending on how the Geek Squad recovered your data the files may not be quite where iTunes expects to find them. The usual reason for missing files is that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.
When you get things fixed make a backup.

  • Not all songs are getting synced into my iPhone

Why is this? I have no clue. Only ~200 of my ~500 songs are getting uploaded.
Also, what's the best way to store songs in my computer, such that it will not get duplicated on my iTunes and/or iPhone?
Currently, I store the song as "Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven" on my computer.

Are you manually managing music and videos, or syncing?
If syncing, do you have all songs and playlists or selected playlists selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
Under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences, do you have Sync only checked songs and videos selected?
If so, are all songs selected or checked in your iTunes music library?
Also, what's the best way to store songs in my computer, such that it will not get duplicated on my iTunes and/or iPhone?
When importing songs from another source besides the iTunes Store or when imported from a music CD, there is an iTunes option to copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library, which is available at iTunes preferences under the Advanced tab below General.

  • I update my IPhone4 to IOS6 from IOS4.3.3. My all songs are missing in the Iphone4. How to get those songs into my Iphone from ITunes. Even after sync also not coming to IPhone.

The iphone is not  storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone.
The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Deleted playlists from my iphone 6, but songs are still there and are on my pc.  Where are my playlists?

After adding itunes match, some of my playlists are disappearing from my iphone 6.  The songs are still in the phone, and the playlist is still on my PC.  Why are they being deleted?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • In I06, I have no way of knowing which songs are on my iphone 4s vs being stored in the cloud. There used to be a small cloud next to songs that were not downloaded. This was important to make sure I had the music I wanted when in an airplane.

In the new i06 that I just loaded into my 4s, I have no way of knowing which songs are on my iphone vs stored in the cloud. There used to be a small cloud next to songs that were not on the phone. This is an important piece of information if you are a frequent traveller, as most of the flights I am on don't have onboard wifi, so it becomes a crap shoot as to what I will have available to listen to.
Is there a way I can view what songs are actually stored locally?

Go to Settings > Music and set "show all music" to OFF.

  • I need help - songs are still on the ipod but dont show up

my itunes crashed the other day and suddenly all the files on my ipod were gone. now when i connect it, itunes doesnt recognize it anymore, but i can see from the space left info in the finder that the songs are still on there. using ipod viewer, it even loads the songs to a certain point. unfortunately, a message comes up about an error reading the ipod. now my question is, is there any way or program to extract all those files from my ipod or do i really need to restore it?

yes i did. that was actually what i did when i had my ipod connected to the computer and itunes froze which lead to all my stuff getting deleted. so NEVER do this while your ipod is connected to your computer. thanks for your reply.

  • All songs are playing fast

I just upload all my library in my ipod and when I want to play, all songs are just skipped (played but very fast). I cannot hear anything as IPod will just jump to the next song imediately.
How can I solve this matter ?
    Thanks
    Gregoire

Well at the moment I don't have definitive answer for you, (maybe someone else has) but I've noticed that some of my AAC files are at 130kbps, which tells us that iTunes and the iPod can handle that bit rate.
If you have access to the original source of the music (I.E. the CD) then I would suggest re-importing it into iTunes at a different bit rate. On the other hand, if you have downloaded an MP3 (legally, of course) from a musician's web site, there's probably not much that you can do about it.
Basically though, it sounds (from your clip that I listened to) that the file is corrupt or simply incompatible with an iPod.

  • HT1725 I have a song that didnt completly download, but when I check for available downloads it says all songs are downloaded but they are not. What should I do

I have a song that didnt completly download, but when I checked for available downloads it says all songs are downloaded. When I close Itunes and reopen it still dosent complete the download what should I do

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library (if it's still in there then iTunes won't let you re-download it) and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • Why can't i add playlists to my iPhone from my mac while they are connected? I keep getting the following message "some items (meaning all of them) were not transferred because iTunes match is enabled." This is incredibly frustrating.

I keep getting the following message "some items (meaning all of them) were not transferred because iTunes match is enabled." when I try to drag and drop a playlist, song, or album to my iPhone. This was NEVER a problem before iTunes match or the last iOS update. So what is the deal? Why can't i just add music to my phone from the mac? There is space on the phone. The only way I have found to get the music i want to the phone is to have it download from the phone. This is not something i want to have to do: go through and manually add every album and recreate a playlist on the phone when its there on the mac. And, even more irritating, since the new update, when the phone is plugged into the mac i can't actually view from the mac what music is on the phone. This is incredibly frustrating and any help would be much appreciated in managing my music libraries for each device.

    Hi,
You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.
