Almost all the songs have exclaimation points, and some won't sync

Almost of the songs in my iTunes library have exclaimation points next to them and I can't listen to them. Then, I added new songs to my library and sync-ed my iPod, but the library has 327 songs, and my iPod only has 290. Can anybody help?

The exclamation point means that itunes has lost track of your music files.
Did you try moving or deleting some files from your computer?
check the my music/itunes folder and see if the music files are there.
If so, you can open itunes and click on file>add folder to library
navigate to your itunes music folder, select it and click ok
This will re-associate your music files back to the the itunes database.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

go to the itunes store. select more in the bottom right select purchased. then press the cloud icon to DL striaght to the phone. Id use wifi. you can also DL into computer then synv over to phone.

I recently had to get a new windows computer, old one crashed. My tech guy got all my itunes library over to the new one, and all my songs are there. However, some won't play and ask me for the password for the apple id they were purchased under. 2 of these ids are obsolete and I have no access to those accts. The songs all played on my old computer without prompting me for a password.
Any ideas how I can get around this hassle and get them all to play? We're talking about 800 songs that are being obstinate. The new computer is authorized under my "new" Apple id, which I have used for years.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

I had some time finally figuring why I could buy and download from the Itunes store, but could not load it on my IPOD. What finally worked was plugging my IPOD in to the computer, as I would when "syncing", and, after loading, it would show my device in the side bar. You have to go to VIEW in the top Tool Bar and click on SHOW SIDE BAR in the drop down menu. "SUMMARY' tab, on top, is what I clicked on to show an option of restoring my IPOD to the factory defaults. It erases everything on the IPOD, but gives an option of AUTOFILL afterwards, which it does from the computer. This is one solution of many you could try. Good luck.

My desktop PC recently crashed and I'm trying to recapture all of my iTunes library playlist and songs. I was able to successfully capture the library, however when I tried to play a song, all have the exclamation mark "!" on them and ask that I locate the song. I successfully located some, but there has to be an automatic way to do this, rather than finding each one. I have thousands of songs located in multiple folders of my exteernal hard drive and need a way to find all songs automatically. Can someone help? Thanks!

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

If you are able to redownload music in your region, delete the song from your library and redownload it thorugh iTunes in the Cloud.

Hello, I too had this same problem. I was very lazy about going through EACH song trying to select & fish for it in a folder (I have a lot of folders total of 1,979 songs). I called Apple & they told me to go to my iTunes go to FILE scroll down then ADD FOLDER.. Since everything was just out of place & didn't know where to even begin I basically deleted ALL songs from my LIBRARY & then added each folder. It literally took me less than 20 minutes. Dont worry if you have your songs labeled a certain way (Artist, name of song, genre in iTunes) everything will go back to normal. Hope this helps as it helped me! I put it aside for 2-3 years! First, in you reply (and i've read this elsewhere), you imply that i need to check a box that says "manually manage music." OK, great, but where do i find such box? Is that on the iphone or in itunes? Also, i am afraid of losing what i already do have on my phone. I have about 150 songs, some of which were purchesed thru itunes, but most of which i "dropped and dragged" from my older computer with the older version of itunes. When i go to itunes with my iphone plugged in, all of the boxes are grayed out, except one at the top that says "Sync Music". When i check this box, i get an error warning that says "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? Music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones synced to [name of my iPhone] from other iTunes libraries will be removed and items will be synced from this iTunes library."
So, i have over 3000+ songs in my itunes library on my computer... obviously that isn't going to fit on my phone. So then, what is going to happen? I'll lose everything that is already on my phone PLUS it will NOT be able to sync?
Is now the time to buy a Zune?!? For the company that is supposedly "user friendly", Apple has really managed to screw this one up.

Today as i selected an album to listen to on my Iphone 5, all the song in that album and other albums by the same artist skipped quickly across the screen and deleted everything by that artist.

The exact same thing happened again when i selected another artist to listen to. This hasn't happened before, and i'm now concerned to listen to music in my Iphone incase it deletes my music again.

I've tried to ad the songs like i did before on my pc, dragging them over to my playlist or library. Since I live in Norway, I have some difficulties with transferring to english, so it be some bad spelling.
On the music that I can't get to my itunes, is a "mp3 - lyd" which in norwegian is a the same standard mp3 format. All of the files is in this format, even those that I'm able to transfer to itunes. Which is an album by an single artist.
I know that itunes does not support all formats, which is why I always make sure that all of my music has the same format.
So I will try to explain once more. Earlier today, I downloaded some new music, both albums and singles. And it's the singles I have difficulties to transfer to itunes. Neither dragging them nor by clicking "import/add" songs to library works. What happens when I try to do this, is that I get that circle thingy,(the circle who comes when the computer is working), and when it disappers, nothing happens and no files(of the singles) is transfered. And I'm going crazy, because I thought that I could do this without help, and noe I'm sitting here like a questionmark, and don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Recently I upgraded my I Phone to 5.0.1 and when I tried to play my music all the songs were greyed out and not active. I tried to sync with my Itunes and it was not successfull. I went to the genius bar and all the geniuses could do was blame my PC.
