Almost everything just disappeared in iMovie

I was working on a new iMovie project and a whole bunch of events, projects, and a sizable portion of my library has completely disappeared. Where the heck did everything go? I didn't move any of it to the trash. I just used Time Machine to restore an old library and everything was there. So at this point, no harm no foul. I am a little perplexed that the newest library with the missing films is twice the size, according to the finder, as the "original" library which has 3-4 times the films and clips and such, but I have no idea what this means.
I did recently update to iMovie 10.0.7 and also just update Yosemite to switch to Photos (Though I still occasionally open iPhoto because I can't find things in Photos yet, was that wrong?)
Any help?

And I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 in case that matters. I guess I need to update my preferences.

Clipping mask making everything just disappear

I am trying to make a gear have that nice mettalic shine using the clipping mask, but everytime I make the command the whole thing just dissapears. I am using the pen tool to make 4 triangles with different shades of grey. I then group the triangles, put a radial blur on them and place them under the gear that I created. I select them all and do the clipping mask command, but instead of it being a gear with that radial shine, the whole thing disappears except for the outline of the triangle. HELP!!! I'M STUCK AND I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING (except the right thing)!!!

Usually when everything dispaears then what you intended to use for a clipping mask, is not what happened. Your top most object in the selection is used for the clipping mask.
I fill my clipping mask with a dummy color, to confirm I have my layering correct, the color goes away after the mask command. You can also clean up your document by putting only what you wnat to mask, along with the clipping mask on a new layer, then hit the round button after the layer name to select all in the layer, and mask.

Files. settings, and almost everything has disappeared

I had my had drive replaced about 2 months ago. Everything seems to have been working fine until now. A few days ago I quit firefox because it froze. When I re-opened firefox, all of my settings were gone, bookmarked websites etc. as if I had just installed it new. Then I later noticed, when I tried signing into ichat, the same thing had occurred. It was as if I had just installed the program starting from new.
This morning I noticed certain system preference setting like my hot corners, had gone away. I decided to restart the macbook. After the restart, Desktop settings and files on desktop were gone. Then I went to my music folder, all 2000 songs I have were gone. Everything saved on my hard drive is gone, except for 1 file that was created 2 nights ago, and few settings / programs.
Anyone know what's going on?

Your user folder has been renamed. It's still there. Search this forum and you'll see how to address the problem.

It appears to be fixed, he had multiple versions of iTunes installed (since he put his iTunes in a different folder) the iTunes icon launched the old iTunes, even though the new was installed. it's working now.

Audio disappears in iMovie '11 --why oh why?

working on a movie for days and days.
movie is about 20 minutes long.
it's got a lot of transitions & slow motion speeds.
i waste a great deal of time with the audio.
on most of the clips, i use the audio from within the clip.
i additionally add some audio that was detached from the source/Events footage.
i added a voiceover and suddenly all the audio disappeared.
it still shows up visibly in the Project. -- the purple bars beneath the clips, and the show audio within the clips themselves. i can see the peaks and valleys.
i can see that it's there in the little audio monitor that's visible on the screen below the Project editing. when i play back the Project, it shows green/yellow/red bars as the audio "plays" somewhere inside iMovie's little world. but it won't let me hear that audio.
the sound is still *there* somewhere.
i've tried exporting / Sharing in Quicktime, media browser, and to iDVD, but the sound doesn't show up. all the tracks are soundless.
i have, of course, looked at the audio edit inspector on a sampling of the clips, and nothing is wrong in there. the volume is up to an appropriate level, ducking isn't clicked, etc.
i'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, a desktop iMac Intel duo, and the like.
due to my new experiences with a zillion *other* buggy behaviors in iMovie in the last few weeks, i have already: trashed the preferences, reinstalled iMovie, manually moved my project files out of the "iMovie Projects" folder and i only drag one back in when i am actively working on it (so iMovie doesn't try to have all the movies in memory at once... yes, this is a real thing! look it up. i couldn't believe it.), run disk first aid, backed everything up, exported using every possible setting i can find and basically executed every maneuver you can find on Apple Support and about 5 other websites. i have probably tried everything except flinging the entire thing out the window, which is on my list.
any help would be appreciated.

i think it is just a bug, like so many other behaviors in this application. (someone in another thread suggested they just left this iMovie version to be horrible, didn't bother addressing any of our concerns even when discussed here, because they want us all to buy FinalCut!) i think i had to start over. :-(

I have been using Firefox for almost a year now,and had upgraded to Version 7 recently.
My problem started with the downloads.
1) When a download is to be commenced,a box appears with two options,namely "SAVE" and "CANCEL".
Even when I click on "SAVE",the the box shows it as 'cancelled'.When I right click on the box,another dialogue box appears with a number of choices ,the top one reads 'RETRY'.
When I click this option the download starts and it is shown in the chosen location until 99% is completed,bu the moment the download is complete,the item i.e. the downloaded item just disappears from the chosen location and is not traceable thereafter.This has happened to me repeatedly over the past week or so and I am so disgusted that I have been compelled to uninstall Firefox,and have started using Chrome.

Understood. However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question. It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point. The point is that it's not secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode. It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office). Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
(1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
(2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
(3) Off.

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear and the setup menu says there is an error. Any idea of what is happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

The other day i deleted my email accounts off of my ipod and only reloaded a few of them. today i looked at my notes to look at a project i had typed on my notes because i didnt have paper and pen around to write it and i didnt want to froget. I reloaded the rest of my emails in hope that everything would reappear but sadly only some of them from 2010 loaded. Recently i had update some of the files and they were like they were when i first created them there were alos ones that i had deleted long ago. There are other notes i had made that were really important to me to andi wouldn't be able to remember every single one. Help Please!

Clips disappeared in iMovie - how to get them back?

I've had a number of clips just disappear from my events in iMovie 9.0.8.
In the Event Library, the thumbnail still shows, the sound plays, but there is no video.
When I click on "Reveal in Finder", the source files shows but only as very small (e.g. 150KB). The clips which still work are all in the many MBs when I do the same and reveal in finder. The source files themselves don't play video (nor do they have sound), whereas the source files for clips which are still ok in iMovie will play just fine in QuickTime. What's even more mystifying is that when I go back in Time Machine, the source files for the missing clips never show up as large or playable, even though I know for certain that these clips worked in the past. I have not recently done any software/system upgrades, moved or deleted files or done anything unusual that I can think of.
Any ideas? Has anyone seen this before?

Your original media files in the finder are obviously too small and since they are the same on Time Machine copies, they must have been like this for some time. If your earliest Time machine versions are too small I don't see any way of recovering them.
Were they from a different source or imported in a different way from the clips that still work?

Sorry, but I'm not at all tech savvy, so I might not use the right vocabulary.
The toolbar(?) where I type in the URL of a site just disappeared, so I can't get to my websites. I don't know how to get it back.

That didn't work for me. Nothing happened when I right clicked on the empty space.
What finally worked was I clicked on "view" in the very top toolbar, then clicked on "toolbars" and was able to check the box to activate the navigation toolbar from there.
It was kinda frustrating, 'cause Firefox was giving me instructions to click on the Firefox icon in the top left corner, and I don't have that. My set up doesn't look like the one pictured in the help information at all. I finally started just clicking on everything I could till I found one that worked.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Library just disappeared! SOS!!

I just opened my itunes on my computer and somehow mu current library, which I've had for many months, just disappeared and reloaded my previous library. What can I do to retrieve it? My new ipod has so much valuable music on it and I don't want to plug it into my computer and have it be replaced with the old much smaller library.

"Something" - I'm sorry but I don't know exactly what - has happened to your iTunes Library files - default location C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes - which among other things tell iTunes where the song files that make up the Library are located.
We have seen a number of posts reporting this problem lately but unfortunately no one has figured out exactly what the reason for this behavior.
First of all, the new songs that aren't displayed in iTunes are most likely still on your computer's hard drive. And even though iTunes has lost track of them, there are a few ways for reminding it that they're still around.
The best approach is to use a back-up copy of the most recent .itl file.
If you don't have a back-up copy of the same - and I know most of us don't but it is a good idea to start making one from time to time - then you might want to have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for instructions on recreating your Library.
If that doesn't do the trick, post back and there are a couple of more strategies we can make use of for getting everything back in order.

Even before installing Leopard I had problems with things freezing or crashing... but since Leopard it seems even worse. So far programmes that have crashed.... repeatedly:

What the **** am I supposed to do?
Also, I've mentioned this before, but my MacBook Pro kept completely freezing when using Photoshop CS2 in front of a client. I seriously feel as if I'm working on a PC again.

Almost everything is crashing for me too. So far since installing Leopard, it has corrupted an extensive iPhoto library (over 15k photos) and destroyed an Aperture library (over 5k photos painstakingly rated and keyworded over the last 3 months).
Fortunately I was able to get the photos back from the Originals folder, but all my edits are gone and all my metadata.
I am NOT pleased.

I haven't used many other apps since installing Leopard... I have just been trying to recover my photos and metadata and having to force restart about once every couple of hours.

which brings up another point: I have some damaged RAW files which apparently cannot be copied or opened, but they cause the entire system to hang; I was importing them into Aperture (I didn't know they were corrupt) and it crashed. ON the next restart, I was prompted that the database had become 'inconsistent' and I should rebuild it. After rebuilding, I only had 130 photos inside (instead of over 5k). It killed all my metadata and ruined the entire DB.
Aperture kept hanging while rebuilding, forcing me to force-quit once for every project (there were 64). When it started up it would rebuild one library, then hang on the second. I let it try for 8 hours the first time... it just sat there. Next start, it would show: 'rebuilding 1 of 63' and give me percentage progress, then it would freeze on '2 of 63'; next restart it would rebuild '1 of 62' fine and then hang on '2 of 62' etc...
I suspect the same thing happened to my iPhoto library. It took awhile to start it up, and then it was only showing a few photos and 4 'events' (there were over 70). As I said, I was able to recover the originals, but all the work in organizing them is dashed.
These files came straight from my camera's compact flash card. They imported fine, but somehow they seem to have gotten corrupt after installing Leopard (could be a coincidence).
Anyway, this is a mess. So far it seems that Leopard is a real lemon. I want my Tiger back.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
