Almost in tears-have CS5, recently upgraded to Nikon D7100, now I can't open Camera RAW

I bought CS5 in 2011 to use with my D90.  I recently upgraded the camera  Now, when I try to edit my RAW files in Camera Raw, I get a popup that my camera isn't supported and I need to download an update.
I've downloaded DNG 7.1 (I think), and the latest 8.x and neither worked.  When I go in Bridge and do the Plug in info-it's showing as running 6.
Then I tried to go through Help and Updates in Bridge to update all of them that way.  That didn't work either, it fails to download.
I'm almost in tears....I've taken pictures in raw and I can't edit any of them in raw.  I don't know what else to do and now I'm realizing, for the first time because now I need it, Adobe's Customer Service is horrible....I can't find a phone number to have someone walk me through what I'm doing wrong anywhere.  I'm frustrated, sad, aggravated and really disappointed.  This should not be that difficult.
I'm on a Windows machine.
Please, I'm begging, help me and explain this in layman's terms, because computer technology is not my forte.

This is because CS5 only supports up to ACR 6.7.1. Support for the D7100 was added in ACR 7.4. You will need to use the free Adobe DNG converter:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1
Open the folder containing your NEFs and convert to the universal DNG raw format and edit away in ACR 6.7.1...

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite and now I can't open iPhoto.  I understand that there is a new app (photos) but I can not find this app on my computer

I recently upgraded to Yosemite but I can not locate the photos app.  It is not in finder - where do I look for it?

The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.

Or you may obtain iWork '09 DVD package from Amazon online et al. Sold at very low price now. It is really worth it. Don't forget to apply the iWork 9.0.3 updater after intalling it.

  • My Bridge update 5.2.0.4 has wrecked previews for all DNG files. They appear only sideways and small and I can't open Camera Raw in Bridge. Anyone else have the same problem?

    I updated Bridge yesterday. CS6 5.2.0.4. Mac OS 10.9.5
Now all previews (DNG files) in Bridge appear sideways and only small thumbnail size.
Also Camera Raw has been disabled.
I have tried purging cache for the folders as well as purging entire cache.
I have also spent over an hour on the phone to tech support which mainly involved being switched between departments and trying to understand anyone on the phone.
    Can anyone help?

Your Performance preferences screen capture reveals you have a single hard drive with little available space to accommodate both the Photoshop scratch file and the swap files of the OS.
It's obvious that Bridge finds itself at times with insufficient space to build its cache.
However, it's unclear why that should affect only DNG files and not other type of image files.  Puzzling, unless the DNG files are the only large image files you have.
Parts of the following may illustrate what happens when the scratch file is on your boot drive:
The rule of thumb I follow to figure out scratch space says to figure on 50 to 100 times the size of your largest file ever multiplied by the number of files you have open.  I have seen the scratch file exceed 800 GB once, an admittedly rare occurrence, but it often exceeds 200 GB when stitching large panoramas and the like.
As an example—and stressing that I'm aware that others have even more scratch space than I do—I keep two dedicated, physically separate hard drives as my primary and secondary Photoshop scratch disks and a lot of GB free on my boot drive for the OS.  I also have 16 GB of RAM installed.
Additionally, if you only have a single HD, i.e. your boot drive, you'd need it to be large enough to accommodate both the swap files of the OS as well as Photoshop's scratch.

  • I subscribed to CC ( PS and LR). now i haven't used them yet as i deleted the downloads by my own stupidity. Now i can't open a raw file in camera raw using my own CS5. Also i can't find the link to download again.

Every time i look at the Adobe link in an email I'm prompted to subscribe to the CC ( but all ready do) getting confused and help PZL

    Hi Vicky,
If you have a serial number for CS5 then you can download it via this link: Download CS5 products
Also, make sure that it is uninstalled from your machine, Windows: Control panel>> Uninstall a Program
    Mac: Go>> Applications>> Utilities>> Adobe Installers>> Uninstall CS5.

  • I just upgraded to Photos and now I can't open my iPhoto Library in Photos OR iPhoto. How do I get my photos back?!?

I recently updated to the new Photos and when I went to import my library into Photos, it wouldn't let me.  Kept throwing errors.  I followed the suggested fixes using the terminal regarding permissions, but that didn't work.  I decided to just go back to using iPhoto, but when I opened that it wouldn't see my library either.  I tried copying it to an external hard drive and opening that, but it didn't work.  I can browse for it and see it on my computer but it's grayed out and I'm unable to select it.  Please help.  I'm terrified I lost all those photos.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Just upgraded to 10.8.4 and now can't open canon raw files in photoshop cs5 with camera raw plug in 6.7

i've just upgraded to os 10.8.4 and now i can't open canon raw files in photoshop cs5 with camera raw plug in 6.7 which worked perfectly prior to the upgrade....anyone else encountered this issue?

Adobe's software is a mess in terms of the fact that it's sprayed all over the place and may not survive an OS upgrade.  Try reinstalling Photoshop CS5.

  • Can't update camera raw file in photoshop cs5

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5, version 12.0.4.  I am trying to open camera raw files ending in ARW (Hasselblad Stellar Camera) and PhotoShop tells me there are no updates available.  I have downloaded the mac os file (using Yosemite, latest version) and get the message the installation was successful, however, PhotoShop still shows that the Camera Raw Version is still 6.0.0.205.  I can view the ARW files in finder, however when I try to open the file in PhotoShop CS5 I get this message:
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.

you can update ps cs5 to cr 6.7
update by downloading the files directly and then applying them:
    pre cc updates:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
i'm not sure which camera you have but the hassleblad stellar II needs cr 8.8 or better.
your options (if that's your camera) are to upgrade ps or to use the dng converter.
    DNG Converters:
    Win
    Mac

  • I recently upgraded to ML and now I find that CS5.5 programs crash unexpectedly all the time. Help

I recently upgraded to ML and now I find that CS5.5 programs crash unexpectedly all the time. Is anyone else having this issue and what's the best way to resolve this. Help.

You might check and see if there are any Console entries about what happened when you attempted to launch a CS 5.5 app.
Adobe links its apps with the particular volume on which it is running, and altho' I can't recall specifics, I know in the past I have had to reset Adobe's settings after OS upgrade. I do recall that it's a fairly easy procedure; just don't exactly recall what it is.
BTW, CS 4 runs on Mountain Lion for me.
