Happy New Year, ~keylala~.
You can take care of the clutter by putting your playlists into folders - iTunes File menu > New Folder option.
But if you do want to delete them have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.

  • Show in which playlist tracks are

I have a request for a functionality in Itunes.
In the main directory of the ipod, you can see a lot of information like artist, title, album etc. but not in which playlist a song is. And that is something I really would like to see. I now have some music on my ipod that is not in a playlist anymore (the playlist got deleted somehow, the music remains on the ipod). Now i want to put this music back in the playlist, but I don´t know which music is already in a playlist and which is not. Just another option besides the name, artict, album, genre, time, options would be great to fix this for me.
Is there someone who knows if this is already possible? and how i can do this?

Well your talkin about to different things, ipod and itunes.
If the ipod is set to "Auto Update" then you use the feature in iTunes to do it like described above.
If the ipod is on "Manual update" then you highlight the ipod and then do it in itunes.
It would be hard to add a feature where it listed every single playlist a song was in, it would make the list WAY too long if you had the song in alot of playlist. They do offer smart playlist where you set rules a song must match to be on it.
All you have to do is look at the playlist in question and see if the song is missing or not

  • Playlist again... but differ

I've seen alot of playlist posts about playlists in the Creative MediaSource, but I have yet to see one pertaining to the mp3 player. So here it mine.
I've been looking around in my documentation for my MuVo TX FM (GB) and of course listening to music on it. My one complaint... we'll, I don't know if you can call it that... is that all the songs are preorganized on the mp3 player by artist. Is it possible to insert a playlist file into a folder that contains all the songs, and then the mp3 player will play those songs back in the order defined in the playlist?
I apologize if this has been asked and/or answered before, but in 5 min of looking, I didn't find anything pertaining to this.
    -cowofdoom

so... If I put numbers in front of each song I wanted in playlist, that would order them? Seems to complicated, but ok.
I'm thinking someone needs to make it so you can make a playlist in the MediaSource and then transport it to the mp3 player... update maybe? I believe iRi'ver's little ones allow something like that....

  • Itunes exclamations moved mp3 files to new hard drive

    hi
i recently bought a new computer (quad) and the new hardive is big enough to put all my mp3s onto one hardrive. so i put all 80gigs worth into one folder called "mp3s" and then i have sub folders to categorize them as latin etc...obviously itunes will display ! on every song now that they arent in their original location...so i went to advanced tab and made the "mp3s" folder the default music folder and assumed itunes would be smart enough to reestablish links to every song in my playlists...but no!!!...i tried one posts suggestions which worked the best (creating xml file etc)..but most all of the songs in my playlists still didnt show up...and every song in playlist is located in the "mp3s" folder so i assume it couldnt handle 80gigs worth of songs?
my complaint with itunes is i use to use some mp3 player on OS 9 that was smart enough to reestablish links to multiple playlists by simply selecting one song in the playlist and selecting the new location of the file, then it would automatically see any other mp3 contained in any subfolders and reestablish links to it....simple...why cant itunes on OS X do this.
    any help appreciated
    thanks

after reading many posts on apple, talking to apple tech support and googling nothing solved my problem completely...however i figured out a way to get it to work for me
    MY SCENARIO:
before i had two different drives with 20gigs of mp3s on each drive and itunes on another drive...my files are organized by genre not artist so having itunes oraganize my mp3s is a no go and i have alot of playlists that i spent alot of time organizing so i didnt want to loose them.....when i got my G5 i finally had enough room to put all mp3s in one MP3 folder and thats what i wanted to do.
    STEPS I TOOK:
    1. I exported every playlist in the itunes on my old computer by going to file/export song list. then saved as .xml file. heres a link to apples directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93763
    2. I trashed all itunes prefs in user/home/library/preferences and all files in the user/home/music/itunes folder on my new computer...then i opened itunes and it goes thru standard steps and opens to an empty library.
    3. I copied all my mp3s to my new computer and placed them into one folder called MP3's ( you can copy or move to any drive(s) or folder (s)you want)
    4. then i went to itunes/file/add to library and selected the MP3s folder and itunes added every mp3 to the itunes library. (if you have mp3s on multiple drives simply continue to select the folders containing the mp3s and add them to the library)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301509
    5. import the .xml song lists in step 1...as it imports some will import instantly, others you might see a progress bar as it searches...if some mp3 files in the playlist are missing it wont display them in the playlist.
    6. all mp3s should now be in the library and all playlists connected to the songs no more exclamation points.
    3. also afterwards or even in step 4 go to the advanced tab in the preferences and select the folder you want itunes to point to if you put all mp3s in one folder on one drive...make sure the "keep itunes folder organized" and "copy files to itunes music folder" are unchecked.
    FINAL THOUGHTS
eventhough this wasnt that tough, this process could be made simplier by apple making itunes smart enough to locate broken linked files. i forget the name of an mp3 player i used on OS 9 but if i decided to move my mp3s to any other folder or hardrive, and reopen the mp3 app, it would show the files couldnt be found in the playlist, then when i clicked on one missing song the app was smart enough to scan that folder for any other mp3s in the apps playlists and automaticallly reconnect to them.

  • Some of my songs suddenly need to be located

    Hello
Ive been using my iTunes for a few months now without a single problem. Two days ago I opened iTunes and suddenly some of my songs could not longer be located. A dialog box opened asking me if I would like to locate them myself, and I had no trouble finding them (in my shared folder). But, its a very long process finding each individual song. Is there another way for this problem to be solved? Why did this happen?
Also, for reference, I do not recall making any changes to my iMac or iTunes that would cause this to happen.
Thank you so much for your help and dedication to helping the uninformed people out there like myself. Its greatly appreciated

    Hi Jason,
I was wondering if your answer for Sarah applied to my situation ?
I save my iTunes music on an external drive in folders labeled Backup Disc 1, 2... up to 24. each folder I allow to get to 4.2 GB than start a new save location in iTunes (for DVD back up purposes).
I have alot of playlists sorted etc.
I need to move my music folders to another external drive.
Would the same apply but I'd have to do it for each folder ? (loading itunes & holdin down ALT 24 times).
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    J

  • Is it safe to download Limewire on my Macbook ?

is it safe to download limewire on my macbook, because I am in a heavy recession and I can't afford to buy all my music? please help me..
    also
i have an old itouch with alot of playlist and song which i would like to import on this computer but i can't. I can't drag and drop or anything?

No, it's not safe. Limewire is a major distribution method for malware, and though there's not a lot thus far for Macs, there are a few rather destructive trojan horse programs.
I can't afford to buy all my music?
Then live without it or restrict yourself to tracks that have been released into the public domain or otherwise legally made available for free, as with the weekly free tracks on the iTunes Store. Stealing music tracks because you can't afford to buy them is no more justifiable than would be stealing a car because you can't afford to buy one.

  • Combining double / 2-disc sets into one complete album .

Just wondering if iTunes had some simple way of doing it for me , automatically . I know how to do it the long , time consuming way in the root folders , but it takes forever . I've got alot of these 2 disc , double-live , & box-sets that I would love to condense into one album , saving the need for alot of playlist creations . Anyone found a way to do it ?

  • Can'y play songs!?!?!?!!

    Hi,
Ive had itunes songs and playlists etc saved on an external hard drive. I restored my laptop to factory settings, installed latest itunes blah blah blah...
All loaded normally, as I've done a few times now (grrr) and got double all my songs, found a topic to fix that, huraaagh!!! But now I cant play any of my songs, instead get a message saying "the song "xxxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
I've searched and so far found no topic similar to this. And all suggestions to a solution either don't work or don't apply to my situation.
I can locate the the song and it does work there after. But I have over 5000 songs! This all happened months ago, I just didn't sync my ipod. but now my ipod has died (another grrrrrr) and need a new one but have no way of getting all my songs on there... I cannot start from scratch as I've got alot of playlist to keep.
    Someone please help me!!!!

    Hi Katrina S.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately my problem isn't solved by the link you've kindly added. I've done several searches, had email support with apple, and phoned the help line. So far with no positive result. I will try explain my problem in more detail as best I can, I'm not the best at this so please bear with me..
I saved all of my songs on an external hard drive (copied the itunes folder) Reset my laptop, installed latest itunes and copied the contents from my external hard drive to my new itunes folder. I've checked and confirmed this is the correct folder under "edit/preferences/advanced" tabs.
All of my songs and all of my playlists show up correctly on itunes, exactly as they had done on previous occasions. But all songs now have an exclamation mark to the left of the songs name and when I select a song I would like to hear it won't play and I get a message saying:
"The song "xxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
If I click "Locate" (the only other option being "Cancel") I can find the song with ease, as it's in a sub folder (usually named the same as the artist) within my itunes folder, which is the itunes location folder. After I do this the problem no longer exists for that particular song and I can play it anytime I like.
I have aprox 5500 songs and you can easily see how this isn't a practical solution. Starting from scratch would be very upsetting considering the time it took to go through all my songs and make playlists etc.
If there has been a thread about this very problem and I have missed it's location please do send me it. But I really couldn't find a thing on it???????

  • HT1751 My computer got fried and when I downloaded my itunes onto my new computer, the playlists I created were gone.  Any chance of getting them back.  I spent alot of time on these as you can imagine.

My computer got fried during a storm so I purchased a new PC.  When I downloaded my itunes library, none of the playlists I had created appeared.  Is there any chance on retrieving these from itunes?  I spent alot of time creating them for certain occassions.  Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Can anyone help me with a problem i am having with my music on my iPhone 4S. I have put alot of Compilation CDs in my library on iTunes. I download these tracks onto my phone, everything is ok so far. Now, this is what is niggling me and I don.t know how

Can anyone help me with a problem i am having with my music on my iPhone 4S. I have put alot of Compilation CDs in my library on iTunes. I download these tracks onto my phone, everything is ok so far. Now, this is what is niggling me and I don.t know how to resolve it. This is my problem:
Have downloaded for example: Queen – Bohemium Rhapsody from a compilation album as well as a few complete Queen Album CDs into the iTunes library and then put them into playlists,
When I go onto my phone and select Queen on the MUSIC app using Songs tab at the bottom of the screen it will display all Queen songs and their resective Alum pics, that is all those not in a complilation album, .
If I know the song title I can select the songs tab and find the song that way,
I’ve tried fiddling with the settings in the iTunes app by going to ‘get info’ tab and trying to sort the problem out that way but am not having much luck. What I want the phone to do is show, for example all Queens songs including those in compilation albums. Can this be done, would be grateful for any ideas on how it can be done, that is if ic can be done, any ideas
    Thanks for your help

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

  • How do i add a playlist from itunes to my ipod without having to sync any of my music.

i noticed that you can select certain playlists to sync with but i just want to add them and not erase my other music. itunes wont let me drag the playlist onto my ipod but thats really all i want to do. i am working with a pretty slow computer that crashes alot so having to put all my music back onto my ipod (50ish gbs) usually takes awhile with many attempts. please help! again i stress i do not ant to use the sync selected playlists feature. as for background i have the newest itunes and a 4th gen 64gb touch.

Do it by manually managing music. Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

  • How to Manage Multiple Users' Playlists

Hi - Can someone tell me the best way to manage playlists from more than one user on a single computer running Windows XP. In my case, I have four people in my house using a single computer. Each person has their own iPod and there own iTunes library. I would like to be able to download my own library plus one other person's music library (not all four) onto my iPod. I figured out a way to do this some time ago but it seemed clunky and I almost lost alot of music. Can someone explain the "right" way to do this? Thanks...

You are doing what I do at home. My music is stored on a network drive though.
This is one of the recommended methods for people to manage different iPods. The most important consideration now is whether you are using users accounts or if everyone is running as admin. Also, where the files are store matters. If you are using default location the it will be /user/My Documents/My Music/iTunes.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
As long as a user can access files in the other users' folder then all you have to do is use the add file or add folder function to add the files to your own library.

  • I opened my iTunes and most of my music was gone, it said "Previous iTunes Libraries" at the top and had playlists from a few years ago (that I've long since deleted). How can I get my old library back?

Please help!! About a week ago I opened my iTunes to find that all but 200 something of my songs were missing (I had 1,000 something the day before) and all of my current playlists were gone. They've been replaced by playlists that I had nearly four years ago and have long since deleted. It also says "Previous iTunes Libraries" at the top. I am SO frustrated because everything is gone!!!

Nevermind, once I posted this topic it gave me some helpful related topics on the side and I found my answer! Would have been nice if it could have given me those before I posted this!!! Anyway, if anyone else sees this and is having the problem, press and hold the Shift key while double clicking to open itunes on your desktop, then it will ask you to select a library and just choose the one with the most recent date!! (Use the Opt key instead of Shift for Mac users). I owe alot of thanks to the person on the board that helped me, been frustrated for DAYS!!! THANK YOU!
