Alot Of Room Needed?

hey everyone,
i have a macpro with 3, 750 gig hard-drives in it.
one is my mac hd 750gig
the other is my media hd 750gig
and the third is my time machine 750gig
i have more then 750 gig on the two drives that i need to back up
can i use two hard-drives to backup to?
or how do i back up such a large amount of stuff... its prolly close to 1 tb

You can use a 1 tb or larger drive to back-up the two that total 750 gb, but it probably won't work for long, as you'll have very little space for subsequent incremental backups.
The general rule of thumb is, your TM volume should be 2 - 3 times as large as what it's backing-up. This varies greatly, of course, depending on how you use your Mac. If you frequently add or change lots of big files, even 3 times may not allow for a few weeks of backups. But if you're a light user, 2 times or even less might do.
You can only back-up to a single volume; but that volume can be a "concatenated RAID set" of 2 or more drives (also called a JBOD, Just a Bunch Of Disks). See the Help for Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) for +Concatenated Raid.+
Another solution might be to use a disk 2 - 3 times the size of the data on your internal disk for TM, and back the media drive up separately, either to DVDs or to another external drive via a different application, such as CarbonCopyCloner. If the data on the media drive doesn't change much, this might be better.

  • Syncing iPhone and Mac and the room needed on iPhone

    Evening Forum
is it me or when syncing my iPhone do i notice that the room needed to swap stuff over is used in a strange way?
for example [and its not exact i know so go with my sizes here], my 32GB iphone has say 30GB left after apps and other things, if i transfer 20GB of music and associated stuff, i have 10GB left. If now i sync a few weeks later with another 28GB of music, as my mac would tell me, despite my thinking that the iphone would know that off coems 20Gb and on goes 28GB, it cant handle that. its seems to need a certain amount of space actually on the i[hone outside of the music being taken off and the music being put on, to actually do the swap.
anyone else found this? whats the exact reason for it? whats it doing?
even if some of those tracks being swappped were the same, thus the tracks not needed to be taken off, surely the iphone should know this. It takes long enough to think about it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Macs use a different version than a iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, so you have to buy this app in the Mac App Store. After installing it, you can sync them if the app has got a sync service or iCloud compatibility. Note that the app for Macs should have iCloud support too

  • Recording in a small room need help

    Hi Everyone.
I am new to the art of audio but have worked with video for a few years.
I recently filmed an interview. It was in a small room and the Audio has a touch of echo on it. Basically it just sounds like it was recorded in a small room which it was.
Having said that. If for future reference. If I'm in a situation like that again. In a small room and a bit of an echo what can I do to dampen that?
Also. Are there any effects or any filters that Soundtrack can put on this audio to help it sound better?
Thanks to all in advance. Any help is appreciated. I know there is not substitute for good original audio- just wondering what my options are.
    -Fraky

    hey there Fraky,
    try this cheap audio trick--
take 2-3 boom stands & a couple of moving blankets, set the stands as "T" w/ height set above speakers' head & drape blankets over them, depending on your location in room you can set them in a "V" or splayed "U" in front of or behind mic head or interviewee. you can "dress" them w/ a neutral color fabric... beige, light blue, light grey, or white to bounce light if needed.
    good luck.

  • Room needed for v3.0?

i have the original 8GB iPhone...i have 245MBs available...currently i am running 2.1 and decided to wait until v3.0 to update my phone.
when v3.0 is available, does anyone know if i have enough room or will i need to make some adjustments?

Most of the other for the difference is not for the firmware and included software. The firmware and included software doesn't take up anywhere near almost 2GB.
The bulk of the difference is how hard and flash drive manufacturers advertise storage capacity, which is industry wide. Drive manufacturers advertise the decimal equivalent which is not the actual in regards to binary storage, which is less.
Check your computer's hard drive capacity vs the advertised capacity for the drive when you purchased the computer. You will find it to be less than the advertised capacity. This is industry wide across all platforms.

I'm running airport express on my stereo in my bedroom. it needs to always be "on" so i don't have to get out of bed to select which audio output is active. is this possible? please help.

Is this message box indicating the Airport Express is re-connecting to your internet service and if so, is this Airport Express connected to a DSL internet service that uses the PPPoE protocol to connect? If so, run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click on the Configure button, click on the Internet tab, and check the box to "always stay connected". Update settings to the Airport Express.

  • Not alot of room for my dates

    Hello,
    I have a contract I have converted over from Microsoft Word that has several sentences such as;
This agreement made the______day of____________________, _______.
The first blank needing the choice range of 1st-31st, the second January-December, the third 2012-2014
My issue is the text is 12 point Calibri and when viewing the doc at 100% a drop down list does not work because the "drop down arrow" covers my text and does not allow the user to see what they are picking.  If I use a list box, I cannot get rid of the blue boxes behind the text and this does not look professional when printed.  I tried widening the spaces but when printed it looks silly and out of place.
Can anyone offer any alternatives? I was thinking of a pop up calendar that when picked will auto populate the 3 fields or some sort of pop up menu for each field.
    Thanks, any help is appreciated.

There's no date picker available for acroforms that will work like that, but you can use pop up menus. For example: https://acrobat.com/#d=s-nzfjYqBkwfpw2TOk2lcw
It uses buttons, but you could use text fields instead. Looks at the Mouse Up JavaScript to see how it works. See also: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.161.html

  • Running out of HD room, need a little advice...

    Hi everyone.
My 100 gig internal drive is just about full so I'm in the process of getting a pocket 120 gig fw drive and I want to backup, erase and reinstall my apps and docs on the internal (do a little house cleaning) and have everything running nice and fresh.
Can anyone offer any advice, tips, tricks or third part apps that make this task easier (if any)? My local Mac dealer said basically, all I need to do is to take my Home folder and copy it to the external drive, then wipe my hd clean, reload my apps and move that home folder back over? Is this correct? Will everything be there (mail, bookmarks etc)?? I'm curious because according to the info, there is 33 gigs of stuff in that home folder and apparently only 13 gigs of apps (which only adds up to 46 gigs, so where's the remaining 47 gigs?).
One last question, I've just received my Universal FC Studio discs and I know it's HUGE if I install all the loops provided, can the loops for Live Type and Soundtrack Pro be installed on the pocket fw drive where I can access them only when I need to?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would NOT recommend you do that. Whether everything you need is in your Home folder, will depend entirely on how you have your work organized.
I recommend backing up EVERYTHING, the whole disk. Otherwise, sure as heck, you'll look for something, and it won't be there.

  • Is it possible to restrict Content Administrator from a room?

I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around this one so please bare with me.
The client wants the following situation:
    - they want a collaboration room that is restricted to 4 individuals in the company
    - this room needs to be secure so that only those 4 individuals can access the content in the room, these are end users
    - the Portal admin person will setup the room initially and then should no longer be able to access the room or content
I can't think of any way to do this.  I've thought that maybe we could create a custom Content Admin role that has all access except to the room folder but this doesn't seem to be possible.  From my testing it looks like you can see all the documents in the room from Content Admin -> KM Content if you have the Content Admin role (or a copied version of it).
Currently the portal team has Super Admin in production.  We'd obviously like to keep that access because maintenance and support becomes difficult without it.  The client would allow for special Super Admin access for temporary periods but it seems that we'd have to create a scaled down admin role that we would have all the time and then when we needed further access we'd need to get special approval to get the Super Admin role for a temporary period.
So, is there any way that we can revoke all access to a room and it's content except for the specific users assigned to that room?  Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help,

    Hello,
I'll explain what I am trying to achieve.
I've written phone book application. Each person has his/her personal card with his/her picture. In order to display the picture I need it to available in http. I've created an HTTP Alias (Like can be done on IIS). What I do is simply conctenate the HTTP alias the unique id number of each person which is also his picture's file name. The workers have an option to show or hide their pictures if they want to. The problem is that once creating an HTTP alias (or virtual directory on an IIS) this url becmes available to every person inside the LAN and the whole pivacy cocept is lost. If I could reveal this alias only to users who are entering the portal I could have control over the displying of the pictures but like this everyone can see every picture if he wants to. I beleive I can change the method of the picture retreival so it will take it from the file and not from http, but this methos is much more faster and simple.

  • Exchange 2010 Room Calendar Permissions are too permissive when Default is set to None.

Help! Room Calendar permissions are too permissive when Default is set to None.
We are a brand new Exchange 2010 shop, and have setup several conference rooms.  Many of them are restricted to specific groups to book via In-Policy Requests using Resource Booking Attendant.  The Room Calendar permissions for most
rooms shows only two options for the Default access: None and Full Details.  Default is set to None, yet if someone opens the room calendar in Outlook (& they are not part of the In-Policy restrictions) they are able to see the full meeting details
(even open the meeting for full details).  How is this possible when by default they should not have any access as it is set to None?  Some rooms would not be a problem for clients to see the details, but some rooms like Executive rooms need to be
locked down so that others cannot see the room details - None.
I also found this, although it did not make a difference.  If I create an Outlook profile for the room and login as the room calendar in Outlook, go to File, Options, Calendar, Resource Scheduling, Set Permissions I get different default options:
None, "Free/Busy time", "Free/Busy time, subject, location" and Full Details.  Why do I have more options in this view rather than the Room Calendar Permissions?  I looked at two rooms and both Default options were set to "Free/Busy
time", so I changed these settings to None.  Still the clients can view the full room calendar details.  What are we missing to get the room calendar locked down so it is not displaying details to everyone?

Only the default groups and Exchange Admins have Full Access to these items, so that is not the issue.
-MailboxFolderPermission 1RP07AWest:\Calendar cmdlet and it shows the same access I see when I open the calendar in Outlook and view the Permissions as shown below - Default is set to None.
As I stated in my last reply the only thing that finally forced it to be blocked is changing the Resource Scheduling permissions under Options > Calendar for that room mailbox.  If I have to do that for each room calendar, it's going to
take considerable time to change each one.  Is there a cmdlet to allow me to access and change that setting as well?

  • Breakout Room Audio Using Integrated Telephony Adapter PGI/

    Hello -
Hopefully this hasn't been covered - I didn't find anything in my search.
Using Adobe Connect 8, I am operating with the PGI integrated telephony adapter (not universal voice).  This allows me to have learners join through VOIP or by having the meeting call their phone and keeping them 'integrated'.
All had been working well until I started doing breakout rooms.  From my research, when I put people into breakout rooms they are supposed to join PGI supported mini audio conferences.  Unfortunately that is not happening, and I am getting the prompt below. I started fiddling around in the compliance settings etc. but was not able to get it working.  Basically when I put learners into a breakout room they get kicked out of the audio conference with the only option being to join by phone.  Then when I bring them back into the main room they have to rejoin the audio conference.  Quite the clunky process with large numbers of virtual learners - anybody have any experience with this that can comment?  I thank you in advance.

    I found this thread:
    http://www.connectusers.com/forums/cucbb/viewtopic.php?id=4863
With this post at the end (below) - can anybody confirm this?  To have individual breakout room audio functioning you must be all voip or all telephone?
To use the broadcast audio (from voip to teleconference audio) feature in a main room requires that Universal Voice is activated for the integrated audio adapter (PGI, Intercall and Meeting1).
When you have both VOIP and teleconference users in a main room in this above manner, you cannot then use breakouts with VOIP.... breakout rooms need to be all telephone or all voip.

  • Room Delegate issues in Exchange 2007 standard

I have created 3 rooms in Exchange. There is a delegate that is scheduling in the rooms on a regular basis.
Issue #1: She receives the request but when she accepts it the object shows up on her calendar instead of the associated room.
Issue #2: The room calendar does not show free/busy to all users needing to use this room.
Issue #3: These rooms need to be available 24/7 but they all seem to have their own times.
I have given her full access and checked on the shell to assure that everything is enabled and it looks to be correct. All users can see the rooms but they look to be available when things are already scheduled in them.
    Can someone assist?

If Comcast specifies a specific port, that's probably for sending mail to their server, and then they send it on the recipient servers. It looks like that port lets you connect to smtp.comcast.net, which would be entered in Exchange as the Smart Host Server
    for outgoing mail.
For incoming mail there are services that will collect your mail and forward it to you on non-standard ports. All of the mail hygiene companies work that way for example. Most of them will also support your outgoing mail so you can avoid Comcast completely.

  • Meetin room "locks" down

Our problem is randomly "locked" meeting rooms. Once this
happens you can not connect to meeting room and connect says the
meeting room needs to be re-launched. How do I do this?
Problem is very annoying if you have prepared a meeting room
and exit the room and all sudden this happens. So far the only
solution I have found for this is to reboot the server. Not very
practical way especially if there are simultaneous meetings going
    on...
Is this a bug or what has happened? Should we always "end
meeting" instead of "exit meeting" as a host?

Does this also happen when the meeting owner stays in the
    meetingroom?
I think there always have to be one from the "Meeting host"
    group in the meetingroom.

  • Is there a Zen to Java programming?

As a programmer/ tech writer, Im sort of envious of luxuries available to theoretical physicists who may contemplate such mysterious and exciting things as Heiseinberg Uncertainty Principle or wave-corpuscular dualism of elementary particles. However, are physicists the only hi-tech community that is permitted to enjoy surfing the Zen paradoxes abound in the world around? Are we computer people deprived of the like delights just because computing is so deeply rooted in Aristotelian and Boolean logic? I hardly think so. Zen (one may add Tao) logic is universal, and although we so strongly tend to employ patterns of our dreary either-or thinking while programming artificial things, these things, quite interestingly, happen to be not exempt from the Chaotic Beauty of the Natural World. In a word, Complexity (can one question complexity of modern computing?) ever meets Chaos. And an encounter with Chaos, paradoxically, expands our understanding of Order; or rather force us into accepting a sort of Another Order that underlies seemingly chaotic processes we observe. Further, I argue my thesis.
Recently, Ive pondered on tricks of object-oriented programming (OOP). Much was said about more human-oriented approaches available with OOP, which allow the programmer to enjoy a higher level of abstraction in comparison with traditional procedural methods that chain the poor developer down to a controlled flow of bits deep inside the machinery. Yes, as for me, systems design and programming in C++, Smalltalk and Java delivers more sense of soaring above than it does in COBOL. In other words, programming in Java appears to be a more human way of thinking. However, what do we understand saying more human? Here we need to be slightly technical. In essence of OOP lies the concept of object, which may be understood as an entity modeling a real world situation. One may announce that a Java programmer thinks in terms of real world proceedings, delivering his or her understanding of the processes by means of the quite abstracted technical language (code). As far, it sounds quite human, and it is so. And here again we can find, not surprisingly, the deep-rooted patterns of rational either-or logic. Object is thought of as static entity, and of course it is static in a technical sense. It possesses such qualities as state and behavior, changeable only within predefined limits. Also, object may be thought of as static because it represents a fixed (constant) set of variables (attributes) and subroutines (methods). Of course, objects provide only a degree of abstraction as to what we understand as a real world situation. However, at the same time they most definitely cannot be perceived as static entities because of dynamic nature of the computing process. In essence, computing is all about data processing, or performance of logical operations on variables stored in memory (the process was mathematically modeled well before the advent of computer as the famous Church-Turing Machine). More simply, there can be nothing static in computing at all, because computation is always a process. So, musing on the nature of objects in OOD&P, we encounter a highly sophisticated logical system presenting the following set of choices: (1) object is either static or dynamic, (2) object is both static and dynamic, (3) object is neither static nor dynamic. As we see, the two latter options sound absolutely Zen-like while the former characterizes the good old Western Aristotelian logic. This is the point where Complexity (of computing) meets Chaos, as it is thought of by Western mind-view, i. e. absence of logical consistency and determinism. Its obvious that in OOP we cannot perceive object in other way than embracing an advanced sort of logic, so characteristic to Eastern thought. If we understand object as a real world entity, we are entitled to see it as a Zen entity either, which can be described only in the conformable logic system.
[Ive patented it as Bojenov Uncertainty Principle in OOP.  Of course, Id be curious to hear from fellow Zen programmers and find out their opinions on the matter, via e-mail preferably.]

You should spend some time around actual Physicists. You'd realize that a very small portion of Physics involves irrational, or imaginative thought. That instead a small portion of it is the imagination, and a larger portion is the execution to test the theorys produced my imagination. And this execution is MUCH less imaginative then anything. Alot of Physicists spend a great deal of their time programing at computer terminals making mathematical models of their data, most of them using far less conceptual models that are afforded to us computer programers these days.
Alot of the Physics department is bent on still using Fortran. They're having a hard time getting them to convert to using C rather then Fortran, yet alone Java or C++. And I'm certain you can agree that these languages allow alot less room for imagination then does Java. You should probably work on introducing these traits you think so highly of the Physics community as having, to the physics community. And once they've fully learned to appreciate them, then maybe you can work on expanding them to the Computer Science community as well. You should realize as well that most Physicists, are also Computer Scientists.
