Alphabetic listing of email recipients in Mail

I have created several mail groups in my Address Book, and my preference in Address Book is to show them listed alphabetically by last name. That works just fine.
When I use these mail groups in Mail, the list of recipients is no longer alphabetic. The names appear to be listed randomly. They are not in alphabetic order by last name, by first name, or by email address. For many of the emails I need to send, it is important that the recipients be listed alphabetically by last name.
Is there a way to preserve the alphabetic ordering that I see in Address Book when I use that mail group in Mail?
Thanks for any help or guidance!

Unfortunately what you're asking is not currently possible. There is no way to define the order by which addresses are listed in Mail, regardless of how they are arranged in Address Book. Apple is aware of this issue and this ability has been suggested for a future release already.

  • How can I send emails to a list of email addresses using mail merge  feature in Microsoft Word for Mac? It would work with the power pc but not with macbook Air

I want to send an email and personalize it to several contacts. I could always do it with my old Power PC using Microsoft Office Word for Mac but cannot access my emailoption when I use the Macbook Air. Anyone have a solution??

No way for us to know for sure (without similar product/issues) but the
HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that
already had been known to be working under OS X as of that date in a
prior OS X (such as 10.8.5, 10.7.5, 10.6.8, etc) with earlier product support.

PS: edit to add... there was a Gutenprint driver reference for T65 Printer here:

Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x

  • Want To Delete Incorrect Email Address In Mail.

I typed an incorrect email address in a new email.
I immediately corrected it, but every time I start typing the address, the incorrect one as well as the correct one appears.
I would like to delete the wrong one as I am worried that on some future occasion I might accidentally choose it.
Can it be deleted? (Note - it is NOT in my Address Book).
    Ian.

Check the list of Previous Recipients in Mail.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients.
A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address.
You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.

  • How do I edit the drop down lists of past email recipients?

This is annoying, i get a list of past email recipients but cannot edit the list.  Seems like there must be a way to do so.  any ideas?  thanks.

If these are suggested email addresses that are coming up .... When the contact list pops up in the mail app - tap on the blue arrow (if there is a blue arrow next to the email address) next to the name of the email address and another window will open. At the bottom of that window tap Remove From Recents.
The email addresses that do not have the blue arrow are in your contacts list and you would need to delete those addresses in the contacts app if you want to remove them.

At present there is no preference option available to move the preview

    Best.

  • I need to email more recipients than Mail will allow

I am trying to send newsletters to large numbers of recipients, but Mail won't let me go over a certain number. This is obviously for good reason, but if spammers can do it, there must be a way for me to do it. Do I need 3rd party software?
    Thanks!
    PS I'm not spamming, honest!

You may have already explored this, but have you thought of a bulk mailing application?
I briefly looked at one called MaxBulk Mailer (http://www.maxprog.com/MaxBulk.html) when exploring the possibility of sending out regular newsletters. It seemed OK on the face of it with some facaility to deal with dead addresses etc plus the handy ability to send HTML rich emails.
Alternatively you could try an online system such as http://www.sign-up.to/ or http://www.constantcontact.com/index.jsp they have their pros and cons but there should be one that suits.

  • Somehow a new contact became associated with my email.  Now all my email has her name on it. This happens only on my iMac, not on my other Apple devices.  I have removed my email from her contact card and deleted her from previous recipients on Mail.

Check the settings in the Accounts for Mail.
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Click on your email Account in the left column > What appears under Full Name in the right column?
If that is the incorrect name you're describing change it to your correct name.

Close the mail app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
then do a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

Right click on the email  in the left hand pane.  Select Mark as Unread to return it to an unread state.  Click Delete to move it to the trash or file it in a folder if you have any configured.  You may need to click the show button on the upper left hand side of the window to see your folders.  The + sign at the bottom of that pane allows you to add a new folder.

    Problem with Thunderbird email:

Are you using either cc or bcc? Is googlemail involved? Some email providers suppress cc's and bcc's to oneself since you will have a copy in your Sent folder.

Which is the command to use to list all email aliases/groups and members on the mail server.Email aliases/groups can exist in text files in the configuration directory of Messaging Server or be defined in the LDAP Directory Server. You can use the "commadmin group search" command to list the ldap groups (if you have Delegated Administration installed/configured), otherwise you can use a directory ldapsearch to find the groups.

Of course they're in my Sent folder.  Then why can't Apple Mail find them?

  • How to stop Mail from selecting addresses from the list of Previous Recipients?

How to stop Mail from selecting addresses from the list of Previous Recipients?

    This is a related question.
I deleted ALL my previous recipients and when I create a new e-mail it STILL is getting addresses that I don't want - they pop up and I don't know how to stop this!
I switched from one ISP to another - I deleted the old e-mail account in MAIL - I DID use the same name on the account - is that why it keeps bringing up the old address?
    ARGH!

  • Has anyone got a script to read a list of email addresses from a Mail message and put them into a group in Contacts?

Has anyone got a script to read a list of email addresses from a Mail message header and put them into a group in Contacts?

Now Tony, I know you can't hear my tone on a forum post but I was not complaining, simply stating facts . This change brought several people in my office to a grinding halt in a long established workflow that is really rather simple (and I thought was already assumed from the original post above ):
    1) Select a set of records in FileMaker Pro 12 and export only their e-mail addresses as a CSV file.
    2) Open that CSV file in Excel.
    3) Copy the column of e-mail address.
    4) paste into the appropriate recipient field in Mail.
    5) Send
If I were to complain it would be about Apple's typically opaque approach to updates. There is no granular explanation of why changes were made or even "what" changes were made.
Complaining is futile since Apple is Apple and is unlikely to change, but sometimes it is cathartic to "shout into the void" .
I had thought about doing something with a formula in Excel and your suggestion was simple and helpful. Again, however, it is only a workaround for a long established helpful behavior that Apple has inexplicably broken/removed in Mavericks Mail.
I, and the other posters here, would love to have the capability back rather than have to add previously unneeded steps to our workflows.
Ultimately we may add scripting steps to the FileMaker side to export the address lists with commas inserted already if Apple ends up having permanently removed this feature.

  • Emails from another list are automatically deferred from Mailing list

I have several mailing lists setup on on a server. Most emails go through the listhost without any problems. Posts should be configured to automatically go through for all posters.
Some of these mailing lists are part of other mailing lists. If one sends an email to a mailing list, of which the server's mailing list is a member, the email will be deferred. The reason cited for deferring the email is "message has implicit destination." I have tried adding the original posters to automatically post all messages from this poster but that does not fix the problem.
I would prefer not to have any delays or waits for approval of such messages. How does one change this setting?
    Thanks!

Also select refersh on other parameter selection in the parameter.
