Alphabetic Listing of Songs

How do I list the songs in iTunes in the normal alphabetical listing?
As they are lsited now, included in the list of all song names starting with "A" would be song names like "The Apple" or "The Archies".
How would I change the listing to have "The Apple" and "The Archies" under song names starting with "T"?

This sorting issue was the source of much frustration for myself for a long time as I wanted the albums on my iPod to show up in the order that they were released, not alphabeticaly. (yeah I'm anal!)Easy enough task in iTunes, but difficult on your iPod.The way I did it was to go into the sort menu of the first song of an album and under 'album name' insert the year of release BEFORE the title. eg, 1983 Texas Flood. (And here is where it relates to you,) The next step is to select the entire album, right click, and instead of selecting 'get info', click on 'apply sort field'. Another drop box appears, you then click on whichever is appropriate, in my case, 'same album'. The same technique can be used to sort artists. In this example, under 'sort artist name',I entered 'Vaughn Stevie Ray', he is now listed under V instead of S. You can do all the sort changes you like for an album in one hit and when you click on 'apply sort field', select the option 'all matching fields'. You can sort the artist name on all of the albums by one artist in one hit using this method, just be sure to only choose the 'same artist' option when doing it or you'll stuff up album titles as well. Also be aware that when applying sort fields to multple tracks, that the track at the top of the list is dominate and all those below will be made to match it. If you sort the artist by their surname and it begins with a letter that is closer to Z than their first name is, eg: Ben Harper, the first track you change will drop below the rest (if your library is set to display albums by artist)because it is now by Harper Ben, not Ben Harper. To combat this you will need to go to the column heading where it says 'album by artist' and click on it. This should reverse the order and put the newly altered track back at the top where you need it.(Hint It helps to isolate artists or albums you are sorting by locating them via the search menu in the top right hand corner of your library before you start, so you don't have your entire library jumping all over the place at once.) Good luck, hours of 'fun',I can assure you.

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • I'd like a complete alphabetical list of albums in my library.

any simple way to do this? i'm transferring my cds to itunes ( a lot). it would be nice to be able to find and album on a master printed alphabetized list for easy reference. eventually id like an alphabetized song list too.

    Hi,
In case you plan to move to Leopard one day, there is a great sofware called "Delicious Library" that you can download from delicious-monster.com, which does exactelly what you want and more.
It automatically indexes your Itunes Library, show everything on shelves with artworks or as an alphabetic list.
It does a lot more, as it includes a bar-code scanning utility that works with any webcam and find online the name, cover page, characteristics and user's comments from Amazon. It can index everything you want : CD, DVD, Books..
Unfortunatelly it does not run with Tiger...

  • My 5s doesnt have the alphabetical order in "songs" tab in music

I am using the 5s on ios 7.0.2 but however I dont have the alphabetical listing that "slider" thingy on my songs tab in music? Its an original stock software.
Does anyone have this same issue? It should be there isnt it?

Mine is there. Perhaps a reset would bring yours up: hold down home + sleep/wake buttons together until you see the apple, then let go.

  • Artists' name appears twice on alphabetical list?

Hello I recently ran into a problem with the music app on my phone. I was syncing some songs from iTunes to my phone until I realized one of the artist's name that was already on my phone started appearing twice on the artist alphabetical list. The artist's name starts with the letter 'L' and it shows up on the right spot on the list, but there's also a duplicate on the bottom of the "W" section. Clearly it shouldn't be there since the name starts with an 'L'. I tried deleting the duplicate but when I do, the right one disappears as well. Please help me. I don't know what to do! My iOS and iTunes are updated and there hasn't been this kind of problem before. It's really bothering me. I'm sorry if you don't understand what I'm trying to say. I wish I can show you with pictures but I'm not sure how to upload pictures to here...

When you say you "installed" Find My iPhone, are you referring to the app of the same name or do you mean you turned on the Find My iPhone service (Settings>icloud)?  If the former, then that doesn't turn on the service and you won't be able to track it.
iPad name appears twice?  Did you by any chance perform a restore of an iPad backup to a new iPhone, thereby naming the iphone the same as the iPad?

  • Alphabetical sorting of songs

    Hi everybody,
I have a "nice to have" questions, might have been discussed already - appologies if this has been the case.
1.) How can I ensure that my iPod lists the songs within the playlists alphabetically ?
2.) When selecting a an artist and choose all albums, how can I ensure here as well that those are shown alphabetically ?
    Appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Chris

Regarding the playlists, just click on the NAME column within each playlist to sort the list by name. Make sure the shuffle icon is not selected before you do this. Your playlists will be in Track Name order now. (You must do this for EACH playlist)
I believe when choosing an individual artist, then choosing all albums by that artist, the tracks will be sorted by album name then track number per album, so the ALBUMS will be played in alphabetical order, but the songs will play in the track order of each album. There is no way to chage this, as far as I know.
There may be a workaround for this by removing all the track numbers from all of your files. However, this will mess up your album order if you ever wish to listen to individual albums.
To each his own, I know, but hearing all songs in alphabetical order drives me insane.

  • List of songs

All of a sudden, all my song lists have become alphabetical, instead of being in the order they were imported from the CD in. This seems to have happened since the latest update. I do not want them alphabetical, but in the CD order. The suggestions I've found in topics haven't helped my SPECIFIC question... most of the searches I've tried turn up nothing. How can I fix this??

Thank you Katrina!! It did not TOTALLY return to as it was before, but close enough for me! I think that's wierd!! My ENTIRE library alphabetized itself by song name. Before, the first group of songs was by ABBA, now it's different, but MUCH closer to as before. I noticed the problem because I added a new CD to my library about a week ago, and yesterday I put it on my shuffle... the songs were out of CD order, and it was ANNOYING!!! Cripes, I wish when iTunes was sending out an update, they'd fix these issues!! I ALSO wish there was a way to get these issues to APPLE, but they seem to want to be out of it, and to let users help each other, for which I'm very grateful! Ms. Nelly

Wondering if you haven't been bitten by the new "feature" of iOS 5, as was my son. turingtest2 explained it very well in reply to my own query about "missing" songs in playlists.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • I keep track of family totals for fundraising at a school, I want a family name and totals for each fundraiser and then at the end of the year I would like an alphabetized list.  Can I do this in numbers?

in numbers, how would I make a line for each family (100+)  a column for each fundraiser. and at mid year, and year end be able to print an alphabetical listing?
example:     entertainment books          Chip Shoppe       Yankee Candle
    Smith          $350                                   $245                    $100
Total at the end of the line, but I could live without.  I am just trying to lose the paperwork, and have it in the ipad for when parents approach me at meetings.
    Help!

    HI m,
Using Numbers '09 (the Mac version), I'd use a table with one header row and two header columns.
    Family     Total     Ent.Books     Chip S.     Y. Candle
    Smith, J      $695        350            245             100
    Jones, T      $765        250            445               70
An ascending sort on column A will put the families in alphabetical order (and carry the rest of the row along with them).
The formula =SUM(2) in B2, and filled down from there, keeps the total for each family right beside the family name.
You could add a Footer row at the bottom to keep totals for each column. Formula for column B: =SUM(B)
I would leave the currency signs ($) off the amounts—they just clutter up the table.
This assumes that the features listed are all supported on Numbers for iOS, the version running on your iPad.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • How can I list the songs in an album in iTunes without having to do it one by one? Some albums are not numbered.

How can I list the songs in an album in iTunes without having to do it one by one? Some albums are not numbered or they show 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1.

Poor metadata needs to be corrected if the album is to display properly in iTunes. iTunes sees an "album" as any collection of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist isn't set). Each track of the album should have distinct Track V of W and Disc X of Y vaules. W,X,Y are optional, but X may be needed for multi disc albums.
See Gropuing tracks into albums for details.

  • How would I export a list of songs on an iPod to a text file?

I found one of my old iPod shuffles that's synced to an old PC that is long gone... I'm looking for a way to export what's currently on the iPod Shuffle as a text file or something so I can remember that "phase" in my life in the form of a playlist. I used to be able to do this in iTunes 10, but not quite sure how in 11+. Does anyone know how to do this?

If you are able to connect the shuffle to iTunes and show its list of songs, it may be best to take a screen shot of iTunes window at max size.  Scroll the list and take additional screen shots as needed.
NOTE:  There is a command in the menu bar to
File -> Library -> Export Playlist...
Give this command with the shuffle's Music list selected in the sidebar.  However, this command is meant to create a text file that is later imported into iTunes, so it is not formatted to be nicely readable to human eyes.
iTunes 11.x may hide the sidebar (along left side of window).  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  To show the list of songs on the shuffle...
    • If the shuffle is 3rd or 4th gen, find the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle).  Click on Music there.
    • If the shuffle is 1st or 2nd gen, the shuffle itself is one playlist.  Select it in the sidebar, under DEVICES, so that its Settings screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, where is says "Settings," click on On This iPod (to the right).
You can actually off-load the song files from the shuffle.  You cannot use iTunes to do this (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store), but there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on the computer's drive, I suggest you create a new playlist in iTunes, and name it appropriately (like "Old iPod Songs").  Show the song files in an Windows Explorer window, and drag them to that playlist in the iTunes window.  iTunes will add the songs to the (general) iTunes library, but that playlist will only show the songs that were on the shuffle.  And you can actually play the songs for a shot of "nostalgia" (not just look at their names).

  • HT1923 I have just updated itunes and now I can't print the playlist when I burn a list to cd. How do  make a cd case cover or list of songs?

I just recently updated itunes and now I can't print the playlist or print a cd case cover. I want to at least print a list of songs to go in the cd case. How do I do that?

beggsc54,  There were some printing bugs in iTunes 11.0 which reportedly have been fixed in 11.0.1.  If you haven't upgraded yet, install the latest iTunes and try again.
