Alphabetize TOC in RoboHelp 8

Hello,
In RoboHelp X5, when you auto-create a TOC, the books and pages are displayed in alphabetical order by default. Does anyone know how to alphabetize the TOC in RoboHelp 8? I have a fairly large TOC and I'd like it to be alphabetized each time I auto-create it before a publish. Is this possible?
Thanks!

Solved with some assistance from Adobe.
The icon that shows AZ is not an AZ - ZA toggle. Its two states are Sort by Name (A-Z only) and Custom Sort.
Auto-create TOC is always based on the Custom Sort order.
So if you want an A-Z toc, you need to custom sort the folders into that order. If you do that, then toggling the icon will have no effect as your custom sort will be alphabetical and, obviously, the sort by name is alphabetical.
Obvious? No. I have suggested the bubble text is clearer and that the icon should change according to the state. Please submit a feature request yourself as the more people who report a bug or request a feature, the more likely it is to be actioned. Please follow this link.

  • Alphabetize TOC in Robo 9

    Hi there
I just download a try Robo 9 to see if my problem with alphabetize TOC was "Fix" in Robo 9.
When i use the drag and drop from Project manager to TOC Pods - My TOC is in the file order and not in alphabetic. what am i missing
I had a idea that you could create TOC alpabetize but what am i missing ?
My project is a R5 convertet to 8 and then 9.
    hope the forum can help.
    /T

    Hi Peter
Sorry, I dit't try to continue the old thread but – noting happened..
I think that you are right about problem...
I have an old Robohelp 5 project with 30.000 files in, and when i open it in RobbHelp 8 it looks fine. When i look at the TOC - If i look fine. Then i have to chance a lot of titles and create / Update TOC  then it is not in alphabetic order. I have read you ( very good web site ) and got the feeling that this was a problem with RoboHelp 8. I tried  to chance the order in the Project Management to alphabetic. It do not make a change... to alphabetic order even if the Project Manager is correct.
I have look at the "MyProject.hhc" and can se the order different in Robohelp5 and RoboHelp 8 files. It look like RoboHelp is doing it different than RoboHelp 8
By the way I export to webhelp.
My TOC are build with one topfolder – Software, then a subfolder with – InDesign, – Illustartor, –Photoshop. In the – InDesign supfolder i have files about text, font, pictures etc..
So if i have to move the all the file in Project Manager, i have to chance file at the last level. The pictures file is before the font files.
I would like to create a TOC in alphabetic order even if my project files have a different order or to update my TOC with out rewriting a new TOC.
So what do i do wrong - how do i solve this problem or is it my who got it wrong ?
I have wonder if was easer to chance the  "MyProject.hhc" in a text editor and if is possible ?
    best regards

  • Conditional build tags for TOC in Robohelp X5

HI, Can we apply conditional build tags for TOC in robohelp
X5. I know this feature exists in robohelp X6 and x7. But as i am
working on x5, i want to know whether we can apply conditional
build tags for TOC. if yes, whats the process?

    Hello again Abraham
Okay, so you have a book named Privileges. It is linked to a
topic named the same, right? And inside this book is a book named
Billing. I'm guessing your TOC structure would look like this:
    * Privileges
    **** Billing
    ******** Topic one
    ******** Topic two
You seem confused that the Privileges book doesn't disappear
when you exclude the Privileges topic. If that were to happen,
would you also want the Billing book and all topics inside to
disappear? Because if the Privileges book were to be removed,
anything and everything inside the book would also be removed.
Indeed to remove a book you need to coax all topics linked
inside (or inside sub books) to disappear too.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is there a limit for external links in TOC using RoboHelp 9.2?

    Hi,
This is my first time posting to the Adobe forums. Here is my problem.
I have been maintaining help projects using RoboHelp 9.2 for quite some time now to generate WebHelp. I now have four large projects that are linked through a URL in each project's TOC.  Example: I have projects A B C D. In A's TOC, I include a link to B C D default topics. In B's TOC, I include a link to A C D default topics. And so on ... The fourth project (D) is new.
The problem I've encountered is with the image appearing in the TOC next to the external link entry for project D in the generated WebHelp.  The image showing up for project D is different from the other two, even though the properties for that page are exactly the same as the other two.  This happens in all three remaining projects (A B C). Even when I change the image (from the image index), the same image (i.e. the standard image for a topic page) appears regardless.
What should appear in all cases is image 13.gif.
(I'll have to figure out later why 19.gif is selected in the properties dialog, whereas 13.gif is actually showing up in WebHelp. Doh.)
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    denise

1-Time machine seems to be coming up often in the discussions. If my backup is on my external hard drive, why would space be taken up on my macbook hard drive?
Read the first extract for the definition of backup snapshots and how they are handled by the OS.
2-Shoud I delete older backups? If for example, all I need from Time Machine is the latest backup done today, can I get rid of the 2+ yeras of backups, or do they not take up that much space?
No.  Time Machine should be on a separate HDD and will take care of deleting backups when necessary on that drive.
3-Back to the issue, considering I don't have access to a an apple store for the next few months, what is my best plan of action?
I would consider installing a larger internal HDD.  Capacities to 1 TB are now available.
4-I am considering buying a new macbook 15inch, and get more space, however, I'm scared that the same problem will happen again. Is this common on all macs? Will using Time Machine to "Restore" my backups bring along the issues as well?
All Macs using Time Machine will experience the same conditions.  The problem is that many users do not under stand what 'Other' is and that leads to confusion.  There are many essential OS files in that category that should not be touched as well as some user files.  The issue is not to reduce 'Other' as such, but reduce the total amount of data on the HDD if space is becoming a premium.

  • HTML Sites not shown in TOC (PDF) - RoboHelp HTML (v9)

    Hello ,
i have a new question. I didn't find an answer in the www so I'm asking here again.
I have a automatically generated TOC where I see all my books(directories) and html sites which are listed in the project-manager.
If I create an WebHelp I can see the html sites in the generated TOC, but if I create an pdf (printed documentation) I only see the books in my TOC inside the pdf.
Why I don't see any html sites in the TOC like it is in the web help?
But the pdf-generating-process write automatically all my headlines(inside the html sites) in my TOC.
I imagine that the printed documentation will create his own TOC and ignore my TOC which I selected.
Can someone help me show my html sites in the TOC like the automatically creation process of WebHelp will do it?
    Thanks
    kind regards
    Denis

Just picking up on one point that may help. The very first time you use a Printed Documentation layout, the contents are taken from whichever TOC you selected. After that, any changes you make to the TOC do not reflect in the print layout. The quick way to update the print layout is to click the left facing double chevron to remove all topics, then click the right facing double chevron to take the latest version of the TOC.
See Printed Documentation on my site.
If that doesn't help, maybe some screenshots would help.

  • Script Errors in TOC from RoboHelp 9

Hello, all. I can usually find the answer to my problems by searching existing threads, but I can't seem to find a solution this time. I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 7 to 9.0.2.271. I have published WebHelp locally and then checked files in to a Team Foundation Server to be deployed to a testing environment. Locally and on the QA site, the output looks fine for me and the TOC works as expected. However, other users on Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (I have IE8) get script errors when trying to click on pages in the TOC.
I zipped my local files and dropped them on a shared drive and asked one of the users to copy them to his machine and open the start page with his browser. He still gets the script errors, whereas another user can open them locally with no problems. This makes me think the problem is not in the RoboHelp files themselves, but I am not sure.
To further complicate matters, in the staging environment, a different server from QA, the TOC and Index are empty! This is obviously a separate issue, but I am stumped. This issue occurs in IE 6, 7 and 8. It does NOT occur in IE 9 or Firefox.
    Any ideas?

This issue was fixed with a reply from another discussion:
    Re: RH8 > WebHelp > TOC won't render in IE8 via HTTPS - Fix/workaround?
If TOC/Index/Search is not working in IE7/8/9 via HTTPS, Please try the following steps
    Go to https://acrobat.com/#d=WqbdTq-2R79ToU08-zfBEw
    Download IESearchIssue.zip file. Unzip it.
It will create a folder IESearchIssue. It has two subfolders
    RH8.0.2
    RH9.0
If you are using RoboHelp 8.0.2, go to RH8.0.2 folder.
if you are using RoboHelp 9.0, go to RH9.0 folder
Go to <RoboHelp Install Folder>\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock folder and rename the file whutils.js  to whutils.js.bak
Now paste the already copied new whutils.js in same folder.
Now again generate webhelp output of the required project.
Host it to your webserver and check if it works.

  • Discrepancy between Book Content (TOC) between RoboHelp Explorer & CNT/HLP Generated

I've got an old WinHelp4 project that has been neglected for years and now we are trying to bring it current.
I've deleted the old TOC it had and created a new one with just a couple of entries to start with (just to make sure everything gets put together ok).  I've run into an odd thing.  After generating the help files, if I click on the button to "Review Primary Layout" or generate the help file and click on "View Result" I get the old version of the TOC.  That is, 10 books in the Contents Tab window.  If I double click in Windows Explorer on the actual generated .hlp file I get the correct Contents.
It appears to me that RoboHelp is "remembering" something that deleting and recreating the TOC did not reset.  I went trough all of the files that I saw for the RH project but didn't see anything that had the old book names in them.
I'm using RH for Word 10.0 on Win7 Pro (64-bit).
This is w WinHelp4 project.  The plan is to move to HTML.  But can't do it now.
Where is this information coming from?
Any and all help is appreciated.
    TIA
    Scott

    Still no luck.
I've copied the project files, deleted everything except the ,hpj, .doc, .cnt, and .hh files.
Renaming them (1 by 1 as there's no "save as" option) I don't see any books listed under the Contents Tab (I only see the full screen help screen that has menu options of Help Topics, Back, Print, <<, and >> and it displays the default topic (which I'm also trying figure out how to change in RoboHelp Explorer).
At this point I'm thinking (and back to using the original project files) as long as I can see the correct books under the Content Tab when I double-click on the .hlp file in Windows Explorer I should be ok.  It's a little disheartening that the RoboHelp Explorer shows something different.  I'm concerned that maybe this is a corruption issue and hope that nothing blows up in my face if I go ahead and use the output from this project.
To answer the additional questions as to what version of MS Word is being used, it's MS Word 2007 (32-bit) on Win7 Pro 64-bit.

  • How do I add vertical space between items in a WebHelp TOC in RoboHelp 10?

I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 8 to RoboHelp 10. When generating my WebHelp output in RoboHelp 8, I added space between the items in the table of contents by editing the following line in the whthost.js file.
    var gsMargin="6pt";
After upgrading, I edited the same line in the whthost.js file for RoboHelp 10. Unfortunately when I generate my WebHelp output in RoboHelp 10, no space is added between the items in the table of contents.
Does anyone have any idea why editing this setting in the whthost.js file no longer produces the desired results? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    George

One way is to do something like this:
    1) create your styles like this:
    span {
        font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;
        letter-spacing: 3px;
    2) create your HTML like this:
    <p> <span>Xc = 10^6/2* pi *50 * C Xc = 10^4/pi C </span></p>
Now is this what you are looking for?  If not please post back so that something else can be suggested like Math HTML such as this one:
    <MATH>&int;_a_^b^{f(x)<over>1+x} dx</MATH>
FF and latest IE9/10 supports MAtH HTML as far as I know.
This is the picture of display in IE10:
    Good luck.

  • Unable to manually add topics to TOC in RoboHelp 11 when working with RoboSource Control 3.1

    Hello,
I am working on RoboHelp11 and using RoboSource Control 3.1.  I am facing an issue while making an attempt to manually add new topics to the TOC (drag and drop), the error alert ' 'xxxxxx.hhc cannot be multiply Checked out' and further the alert 'The files in the list below could not be checked out from Version Control. Exclusive access to these files is required to execute the selected action.' appears.  Note that the said project file is checked out only by me and no else in the team has checked it out from source control..
Can someone provide guidance on how to resolve this issue.

I am having this same problem.
Updated itunes to 7.0 on my pC
    Updated 30GB Video ipod's firmware...
Cound no longer manually sync files to ipod...
    Files start uploading..
Then 1/2 way through the procedure, itunes says something Like "Updating ipod please wait"
and a few seconds later just stops with the upload.
I cant find the uploaded files on the ipod.
I tried updating itunes to 7.01 - no luck
I tried restoring my ipod - no luck

  • How can I edit an RH9 .hhc file (XML format) to include a portion of a RH8 TOC (HTML format)?

I blend output from a third-part application (Sandcastle) into an existing RH8 project.  I do this by decompiling and importing the HTML, then editing the RH8 .hhc file to include the .hhc information from Sandcastle.
This worked fine until RH9 (and now RH10), where the format of the .hhc changed to XML.  Can someone tell me how to approach this now?  Currently, I worked around this by creating a RH8 project with the imported HTML/hhc from Sandcastle, then upgraded that project to RH9.

I decompile the CHM file produced by Sandcastle because Sandcastle output does not provide an index file (.hhc) that I can use to edit the main TOC in my RoboHelp project.
The Sandcastle HTML output files that I import into Robohelp have very intricate nesting and hyperlinking, so autogenerating a TOC in RoboHelp does not produce the desired results. Decompiling is the only way I see to obtain an index file that Robohelp will recognize and add/edit to the existing TOC.
This may be ignorance on my part, but I can't look at an HTML-based .hhc (RH8) and know how to edit it to be XML-based (RH9).
    See below for examples.

  • Style Mapping for TOC & Drop-down

I'm using RoboHelp 8 and MS Word 2007. I've modified the Style Mapping.dot Word template in the project folder (as opposed to the generic one in the RoboHelp installation folder). I've done the mapping in the Printed Document Appearance dialog box. The problem is that RoboHelp seems to totally ignore or override the styles in the template. I hope that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Let me list some of the problems:
In the table of contents, the top-level entries are numbered. Within RoboHelp, the Heading 1 entries are not numbered, and the comparable style, TOC1, in the Word Template is not numbered. Yet in the output, the entries are numbered. I don't want them numbered.
The Word output for "dropspot" text is indented by 1/2", and the output for "droptext" is indented by 1". Both are encased in <p> tags in the RoboHelp source, and the style for div.droptext in the default.css does not contain a left-margin rule. In the Word template, the mapped paragraph style for the droptext does not contain an indent. Of course the style information for dropspot on both the RoboHelp and Word sides is a character format and can't contain any left-margin/indent information. Just for grins, I tried changing the color for dropspot and droptext in the style sheet; that change was produced in the output, but nothing that I have been able to do eliminates the indentation.
The Word output for the droptext is bolded. Again, it is not bolded in the RoboHelp source, defalut.css, nor in the Word template style mapped to it.
In the case of the TOC problem, RoboHelp seems to add the numbering to the TOC1 style even though it is not in Style Mapping.dot. Fixing is fairly simple by just altering the style in the output.
In the case of the dropspot/droptext entries, the problem is monumental. RoboHelp does not appear to add the indentation information to the Word style sheet. Instead, it appears ot modify every single instance inline. Beccause the Help system in question consists of a very large volume of drop-down entries and because it must exist in both online and printed versions, it virtually requires the maintenance of two entirely separate "documents." Since the source can change frequently and substantially, that becomes extraordinarily expensive in terms of resources. We really need to be able to generate useful printed documentation from the online source. Any suggestions.

I just created a new project and set it up to map to the Style Mapping template. That is obviously a new copy taken from the installation folder.
I opened the template in Word and used the Change Style pod (CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + S). There I removed numbering from the TOC style. When I generated a document, there was no numbering.
Dropspots can be part of a paragraph so there should be no indenting. In this sentence "part of a paragraph" could be a dropspot so indenting would be a nonsense.
Using the supplied template neither were indented.
That all suggests to me that a fresh look at your in project template needs another review.

  • TOC blank in RH8

    I am using RH8.0.2.208.
I think I've seen this issue reported before, but since the search function on this forum is currently unavailable, I can't find it.
I renamed my TOC in the Project Manager.  When I open it in RH, it is blank.  When I open the .hhc file in a text editor, all of the content is there.  I tried renaming it back to the original name, but no luck.  The .xpj file seems to be pointing at the correct name.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Dave

The problem was fixed by "loading the TOC".
    To recap:
I opened the TOC in RoboHelp, and the frame was blank.  The .hhc file itself contained all of the information when viewed in a text editor.
I clicked on the "Table of Contents" virtual folder in the RH Project Manager, and a message "Loading the table of contents" was quickly displayed.  The TOC frame then displayed the information.  (I was actually clicking to see if any other options were available....for example, "import" or something along those lines, when this message was displayed.)
To double-check, I closed and reopened the project, and all is well now.
I'm not sure why this problem should have happened in the first place, but I am satisfied that it seems to be working now.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • The TOC in my generated project is not navigating to the correct subfolders

The TOC in my generated project (Multiscreen HTML5/Andriod (Desktop) layout) is not opening to the correct sub folders.
For example, when selecting a Level 1 folder (say the one highlighted in orange), it will jump to a Level 3 list of topics in a completely different level 1 structure (say the list highlighted in green)

  • How do you get TOC folders to display closed?

When I create a TOC using RoboHelp, the folders in the TOC are displayed as open or expanded by default in the Help Viewer (that is, all the topics are displayed beneath each folder). I would like my TOC folders to dislay as "closed" so the topics within the folders are not displayed beneath. Right now it looks very messy when the user invokes the Help Viewer because there are so many topics that the whole TOC cannot be viewed without scrolling. I would like it to open with all the topics hidden within the folders (folders closed) so the user sees just the folders, but I haven't found a way to do this.

This can happen if the <tocitem> elements in your toc file have the attribute expand set to true like this
    expand="true"
You can modify the toc file to replace the above with expand="false"
I don't know how to do this using robohelp as i don't use it.

  • Changing background colour of TOC

HI, just wondered if anyone knows if it is possible to change
the background colour of the TOC through RoboHELP? I can't find
anything on it in the help but thought I'd ask.
    Thanks

Hi Authorgirl. You can accomplise this by using a skin and
attaching the necessary files to the project's baggage. How to do
this is covered in Rick Stone's Tips 'n Tricks file that can be
    downloaded from
    here.
Just look in the index for skins to find the relevant topic.
