Alphanumeric LIFE STORIES BLOG titles given to correctly titled pages.

The point of this post is to tell what I think I figured out about why some pages in a blog have names which are alphanumeric even though on the face of it, there is no reason for it.
I just finished setting up MassReplaceIt to edit out my 19 pages of .js files. (I added songs to those pages.)
While entering the files to be edited in MRI, I noticed yet again that FOUR of the 19 files have an alphanumeric name, not the "real" name that I gave them. There is nothing in the titles of those four pages (in my LIFE STORIES BLOG) to trigger an alphanumeric name. Other pages in my LIFE STORIES BLOG are just fine with regular names.
Therefore, I am suspecting that a BLOG page that has a song added to it will get an alphanumeric name, period, no questions asked.
If anyone has personal experience to the contrary, please let me know.
The iWeb blogs have got to be the most problematic of all its aspects. For the second time, I went in to edit out a Life Story blog entry, and later on I noticed that one blog entry was out of order and became the most recent/newest entry rather than the much much earlier entry that it started out as.
So I would recommend that if you ever go to edit a blog entry, check the date and time because it did change and you do have to change it back. And if I am wrong, again, please do let me know so I can adjust my thinking.

Lorna,
For what it's worth, I noticed that every entry in
your blog has the long, random name. Here are the
names of the ones on your blog summary page...

OMIGOD, James, you're right! I got the wrong impression because I was probably looking at the wrong place, comparing the long alphanumerics with "normals"...........
My blog is the same way. It is my impression that
this is the way blog URLs are meant to be. This is
different from other non-blog pages, though. Prior
to iWeb 1.1, even non-blog pages would often get this
randomly generated URL anytime punctuation was used
or any other non-alphanumeric character was included
in the page name. iWeb 1.1 supposedly fixed this
behavior. But blog titles still keep the long
non-sensical URL.
.......... Lorna says ................................................
And James, the odd thing is that the name of my second site is 4th Down, with an ARABIC NUMERAL....... and it comes out just fine in the files -- no alphanumeric name!
But all in all, Lorna, there is NOTHING wrong with
these URLs. They are perfectly legal in terms of
URL-ease. And I am sure there is some meaning to
them in the eyes of iWeb or other computers. With
that many numbers and letters, the chance of
misaddressing a page from a computer's standpoint is
very small.
.......... Lorna says ................................................
There has been a practical difference in having those file names go alphanumeric, though, and that is when I had to (before MassReplaceIt) search through my files and find the exact correct one. It is easier to find the .js file named Baker Company than HO3j11RRMM9990337, especially when it is near a file named HO3j11RRMN9990337 or any variant more or less easily spotted by the casual eyeball. Just having to find the first 5 or the last 5 alphanumerics is already more work than just looking for Baker Company. But it is good news to know that it is a perfectly legal name and not one which I will fear will get me into trouble someday.

  • Blue ball next to black triangle to the left of my  Life Stories Blog. 8-(

    Should I be concerned?
    In iWeb, there is a blue ball/circle to the left of the inverted black triangle that is next to my Life Stories Blog in my main site. There is no such blue ball/circle next to the 4th Down Blog in my 4th Down site.
    This blue ball/circle is recent. I just now opened my iWeb program and there it is. A new addition, a surprise.
    What's up with that blue ball/circle?
    If it is a message, then what is it messaging me to do?

    Edit:
    I just remembered that I also have a RED dot on my iWeb icon in my Dock. I remembered that the red dot means that there is a Comment in one of the blog entries, so I did go there hours ago and read it (for the Rodney Clown Doll), but then subsequent to my reading the comment, the red dot on my iWeb icon in my Dock did NOT disappear.
    I had other things to do so I quit iWeb. Now I am back and notice that in addition to that blue ball/circle, the red dot is still there and has not disappeared. Shouldn't the red dot go away after the comment has been read or at least after the program has been quitted?
    And since both the red dot and the blue ball are connected to the Life Stories Blog, I think that something might be wrong with that blog.

    Lorna,
    Yeah I think something is wrong w/ the blog. I say
    this because I posted that comment to the clown (I
    don't like clowns they are spooky) and it didn't
    take
    the whole comment. Not much longer but it had
    something funny in it about Monk.
    jabberwock
    If I highlight your comment and paste it somewhere
    else, it shows up in full:
    Now I don't mean to scare you....but you are a
    clown and clowns are very very scary. Monk has it all
    over you. Please stop scaring all the girls away.
    Your friend,
    Harley Quinn
    I think the problem with Lorna's blog entry (just
    that particular one) is that she has
    manipulated/moved the entry area and the photo area
    around and the entry area is much narrower than it is
    supposed to be.
    I left a comment. It is supposed to say:
    Testing to see if this comment will be shown in full
    from left to right because Lorna has made this space
    skinny...
    But it doesn't all show.
    Jabberwock and Allyson -- thank you very much for finding this problem! Now I know not to manipulate that space too much. Sooooooo..... the space is too skinny. And I would like to make it wider so your comment shows, but am scared to, because sometimes when I have gone and moved things around, the DATE changed on me. I will go to see your comment now. Knowing me, I will fiddle with the skinny issue.
    BTW: I agree that clowns are scary. Probably a lot of people feel this way, too. Think of recent villains.. many have been clowns. The clown in "It" was horrific for me.

  • How to edit podcast title page?

    I'm not seeing how to edit the title line on the podcast page here
    www.jimsavage.net
    it's acting like a hyperlink that's set to white text (so you cant see it, yellow scrollover.
    Also is there supposed to be a "read more" option at end of text on this page like on the blog title page?
    Thanks

    Just make the changes in the feed an reupload it. It will normally take 1-2 days - sometimes longer - for new episodes and other information changes to appear.
    If you want to change the picture you should give the new picture a new filename and change the feed accordingly: iTunes caches the image and if you change the picture without changing the filename it's unlikely iTunes will realise it's changed. If you're using an online service to make your podcast, as seems to be the case, you may not be able to change the filename so all you can do it wait and hope the change is picked up eventually.

  • How to change the color of blog titles on blog archive page?

    So while I'm waiting for apple to fix iweb's publishing problem, I might as well do a revamp of my site in the meantime.
    One thing I've been itching to change, but can't is the color of the blog titles on the main blog archive page? They show up in red, even when I change the color on the actually blog entry page to blue. Can anyone please help?

    All of this style information is contained in the .css files that iWeb publishes. Here is a very informative introduction to editing these files...

  • How to change blog title color with modern template?

    hello everyone,
    I want to change the blog title color from the default red to another color but can't find a setting to let me do so. Can anyone help me out and let me know how I can change this? Here is a link to my site to show you what I'm talking about...
    http://web.mac.com/stephenjames716/iWeb/home/blog/blog.html
    thanks,
    Steve

    Hey Stephen...
    For the main blog index page, you can edit the CSS the same way you have done in the past...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1596652#1596652
    You can also edit the template XML directly, but I'll leave that to Suzanne or someone more experienced to explain.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3139039&#3139039
    If you are referring to the blog entry titles and don't care that the main blog index titles will remain red, you can always change the color of the title text in your blog entry. Then when you want to start a new entry, just duplicate the last entry and all the settings will remain the same.

  • Blog titles too long for archive. How do I fix?

    My blog titles are rather long, and on the archive page the titles run through the background box, but it won't let me increase the size of the box in iWeb. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi NeedingHelp,
    I am able to connect to them at this time. It's possible that this was a temporary issue with their servers.
    Are you still having trouble accessing www.smallworlds.com? If so, is this the only website that you are encountering problems accessing?
    Please let us know if your problem is resolved, or if you have any opther questions.

  • I use iBookAuthor to make a textbook for my students; I revised it, including title page, but when I export it and upload it to my iPad, the old title page appears, even though I've deleted the older version of the text before I upload the new one.

    Last year I produced a textbook using iBookAuthor for my students. I exported it as an iBook and they uploaded it to their iPads. This year, I revised it, including revising the title page. However, when I upload the new version, the old title page is shown, not the new one. I deleted the older version of the textbook before I did this. I've been told that I can cut and paste each revised chapter into a new template and that will work; however, title page and glossary can't be cut and pasted. Any thoughts for getting the entire new version on the iPad? I'm also told that if it is uploaded to an iPad that never had a previous version of this textbook, it will upload correctly. But my iPad has had several older versions, now deleted.

    I had a similar issue when trying to create an iBook file to submit for course credit for one of the Apple Learning Essentials classes I took. I had a book I'd started previously which I updated and submitted, and then had to make some edits to for the course evaluator. I made the edits, and when I previewed the book in iBooks Author, it looked correct, but whatever I sent to him only showed some of the edits - for example a new page I created was there, but some edits I made to image captions and the title page image were not.
    What worked for me was to do a "Save as" of the actual Author file to a totally new location (I used the Desktop), and then submit that file - which seemed to work in terms of the changes sticking. I even used the same file name.
    I'm not sure if some similar action might help you (maybe change the file name slightly?) or if you've already tried something like this.
    Still doesn't change the fact that this is a pretty irritating bug.

  • Pages to ePub: TOC and Title Page

    Hello everyone... please help! I'm pulling my hair out.
    When exporting from Pages to ePub, I'm having two issues:
    1- The Title Page (which is page 1 and has been selected as the cover of the book) does not appear or appears blank. What do I have to do to make it appear?
    2- I hear in all forums the need to build a TOC in addition to the one ePub already creates and that appears on the left hand side when the file is opened using an ebook reader. Can anyone please tell me why I have to do this and most importantly HOW to do it?
    Thank you very much!!

    Thank you for sharing such an informative post! I'd like to offer one small correction.
    My company publishes children's picture storybooks in print. These are edge to edge full color pages for those who may not be familiar with this format. Our early ePub's were always disappointing in that we could not duplicate the print format without showing considerable white margins on an e-reader. We have since solved that problem in order to achieve the maximum image size. There will always be some amount of white margin in ePub format, but our image output now nearly fills the screen of any e-reader.
    The 600X860 resolution is correct in order to achieve a wall to wall ePub image. The image must be created at that resolution for insertion into the document, and the page setup must also be set at the same dimension, which in inches is 8.333X11.944. You cannot, for example, use a smaller size image and drag it with constrained proportions to fill the viewport at the 600X860 resolution. The exported ePub file recognizes the portion of the image that is beyond the margins of the viewport and it will show up in an e-reader with a large white bottom margin.
    Dragging a smaller image than the 600X860 resolution to fill the viewport with unconstrained proportions will work, but of course distorts the image. So, create your images at 600X860, insert them into your doc, export to ePub and you will be happy, happy, happy!

  • Trouble with title page and buttons

    I can burn a DVD on DVD Studio Pro but am not able to create a title page or buttons. I have DVD Studio Pro version 1. What's the easies way to do this?

    Are you seriously using version 1? Wow. I do have a copy of that installed on an old machine somewhere - I'll have to go and find it to remind myself how it all worked.
    My recollection is vague, but I seem to recall that you add a menu tile and drop an image of the correct format onto the square on the left hand side to get the background image... you use the property inspector to set that menu as the first play item in the project.
    Creating buttons - can't quite remember, but I pretty sure it was/is very easy. I'll look out the old manuals when I get a chance.
    It might also be a good time for you to upgrade to a later version. I say this not because I think an upgrade is good, or that V1 was particularly bad (actually, it was spectacularly bad at times), but that there is a very, very small number of people who are able to offer support and advice about v1. It was based on a totally different code set to the current version, and there are very few similarities between that and version 4. The only thing you can say is that the DVD specification didn't change, so certain principles for using the app still apply.
    If you can find a copy, look for Martin Sitters excellent book for version 1.5 - a really useful reference. I have a copy of that somewhere too... sounds like it is time to dig it out! Check Amazon here:

  • Default title page - lost horiz. line

    I'm using Robohelp X5.0.2 to generate CHM and DOC files. All
    our printed docs use the "default title page" from RH (I know we
    could add our own, but we like the simple life.) The other half
    dozen projects I've done all have a horizontal line across the
    title page under the document title, but the line's missing from my
    latest project -- in fact we generate two DOCs from the project,
    and neither get the line, just the unadorned title.
    If I open another project and generate the DOC, the line's
    there just fine. Having one set of DOCs look different is not going
    down well.
    .... thinking ....
    Ah, just found the solution ... the default.css file had
    entries for Title and for TitlePageTitle. Deleting those got my
    beautiful line back
    Posting this anyway as a reminder.

    Hi,
    I'll try to give this to you gently, your CSS is a complete mess!
    Having gotten that off my chest, add the following to your main document and you will have introduced new problems, but at least you will have your scrollbars back again.
    .container {
        left: auto;
        position: static;
    What the above does is undo the relative position of the container.
    My advice is to get rid of ALL of your absolute and relative positioning and allow the design to follow the normal flow of the document. In your case you have got a very simple layout namely
    HTML
    BODY
    SIDEBAR
    CONTENT
    SIDEBAR
    Which will make your html markup look similar to the following
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <style>
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
    html {
        background: #3C2221;
        height: 100%
    body {
        width: 1000px;
        height: 100%
    #wrapper {
        background: url(images/header.jpg) no-repeat;
    #lsidebar {
        width: 102px;
        float: left;
        background: url(images/sideBar.jpg) no-repeat right;
        height: 725px;
    #content {
        width: 640px;
        float: left;
        background: url(images/header.jpg) no-repeat;
        height: 725px;
    #rsidebar {
        width: 258px;
        float: left;
        background: url(images/sideBar.jpg) no-repeat;
        height: 725px;
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper">
        <div id="lsidebar"></div>
      <div id="content">
      </div>
      <div id="rsidebar"></div>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    If you now place the sliding panels into the content section, making sure that there is a top margin to escape the header, all will be well.

  • How do I have the audio of a clip play underneath a black title page?

    I have a project where I am asking a couple the same question seperately. I have a black title page that writes out the interviewer's question for 2 seconds, but while the title page is displayed, I would like to hear interviewer asking the question (without seeing the footage). How do I place a black title page in front of a clip so only the audio plays while the title page is running?
    THANK YOU!

    The simplest way would be to
    0) In iMovie/Preferences make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
    1) Add your tite to the movie.
    2) Find the event clip that contains the audio and select the portion that you need. Drag it to the project and drop it on the Title. A pop-up menu should appear. Choose "Audio Only".
    There are other ways as well if this does not work for you.
