Alps touchpad as PS/2 Generic mouse

Hello. I have ALPS touchpad on my Acer Aspire 1551. It works, but in basic mode: two buttons, touch tap as click and double click. Scrolling and multitouch is not working.
Problem is on the kernel level, because it recognizes my touchpad as simple PS/2 Generic Mouse:
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input1
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event1
B: PROP=0
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
B: REL=3
There are no entries about alps in dmesg, about mouse:
[kukman@archbook ~]$ dmesg | grep -i mouse
[ 0.629021] mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
[ 6.721323] input: PS/2 Generic Mouse as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input1
X server config is insignificant, because X can't see my touchpad, X see it as simple mouse. I've read many bugreports, many topics but nothing. I've sent own bugreports into launchpad on Ubuntu, into kernel bugzilla.
Say me, if you need some another information about my hardware. Thanks.

Still no vertical scrolling though. Now to see if some tweaking will get it to work
Same here! When disabling the PS/2 Mouse pointer, the touchpad stops working completely. It seems like the touchpad is still not properly detected but the driver is loaded anyways. Tried multiple variants of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf with no success. In fact when I define an "InputDevice" instead of an "InputClass", the driver isn't loaded anymore.
Gotta keep on waiting and hoping, I guess.

  • Alps Touchpad detected as PS2 Generic mouse on Dell Inspiron N5110 15R

I Started this thread 2 months ago , at first I was asking for a solution and I didn't get one , So I repeated that thread on different distros forums but I get the same results because of a simple fact that there is no one have solution !! , So I realized that the best way to solve this problem is to gather our forces here so we can create a solution
The Bug :  xinput-list shows PS/2  Generic mouse instead of  Alps touchpad  so multi-touch gestures is not possible ( Probably an unknown alps protocol )
The Effected Laptops : Dell Inspiron N5110 ,  Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875  , ......... (You name it)
Update 1- installing kernel 3.5.2 from test repos didn't solve the problem
Update 2- installing  psmouse-elantech from AUR (as wiki says )  didn't solve the problem it only made xinput-list identifies it as ps/2 elantech mouse
Update 3- installing psmouse-alps from AUR don't have any impact
Update 4- installing extra/xf86-input-evdev and extra/xf86-input-synaptics  don't have any impact
Update 5- Here are bug reports links :
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/606238
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/977063
    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45201
Update 6- I contacted Dell ,They says it's Alps responsibility and i contacted alps , They says it's Dell responsibility  ( I hate those shitty formal replies )
Update 7- After Some Google-ing  I found that a developer managed to brake the unknown alps protocol on dell latitude E6230 which is very similar to our alps protocol , so If any developer owns n5110 please take a look at this  http://markmail.org/message/r62dimyqb6f … te:results  you might find a clue or a trace to brake that protocol
In the end please keep this thread alive as possible with every new finding , Suggestion ,workaround , possible solution until we solve this F***N bug

  • Can't enable Tap-To-Click with ALPS touchpad

Hello, I installed Archlinux on my vaio and I am trying to get the ALPS touchpad to work.
I've tried the xorg.conf solution but tap-to-click doesn't work. So I tried using the HAL policy. This almost works, but I have to open gsynaptics tool and enable Tapping. I changed the values of MaxTapMove, MaxTapTime, even deleted them, nothing! The strangest thing is that tapping works at gdm, but it doesn't work after I login. I removed the input device from xorg.conf, nothing changes. If any log is needed please tell me.

Sorry, everything is solved! I haven't enabled tapping from gnome-mouse-properties... My bad..!

  • Alps Touchpad driver not working while PS/2 Compatible driver works on touchpad - Win 8.1

I am using HP PAVILION 14-N201T X Laptop ( 4th Gen Intel Core i5 4200U- 4GB RAM- 1T B HDD- 14 Inches- Win8. 1- 2GB Graph). Suddenly, yesterday, when I restarted my laptop, Alps Touchpad stopped functioning. I have tried different methods, including downloading Windows 8.1 updates (which include Alps Touchpad driver upgrade), downloading Alps touchpad driver from HP Support website. However, Alps touchpad is not functioning. If it helps, I may mention that Alps touchpad is shown plugged into PS/2 mouse port. After I uninstall Alps touchpad driver, the laptop starts using PS/2 Compatible Mouse for the touchpad which is also shown plugged into PS/2 mouse port. However, with this driver, while the touchpad can move the cursor anywhere and the tapping works (for the left-click equivalent), the right-click button on touch-pad is not working and the I cannot hold and scroll the scroll-bar in the right of any window with the help of touchpad. A touchpad click in the blank area of scroll bar moves only a very little distance. However, all this appears to show that touchpad hardware may be alright, there is some problem with Alps touchpad driver. I have also started using a USB mouse with the laptop, but that is inconvenient. I purchased this laptop about a year back. What can I do to resolve this problem?

    Dear Customer,
Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
--- HP Hotkey Support for Windows 8.1 ---
    1. Install MS Framework 3.5 SP1 (control panel/programs/add windows features)
    2. Get the Hotkey Support driver in version 4.5.9.1 for Windows 7 from HP driver site for EliteBook 8460p (it is sp56876)
    3. Unzip the package
    4. Go to C:\swsetup\sp56876 and open properties and go to the tab "compatibility" and chose from the compatibility mode list "Windows 7"
    5. Check "run as admin"
    6. Install

  • Cannot get ALPS touchpad on Dell Precision M4400 to work reliably.

My Dell Precision M4400 (running Arch x86-64) has an ALPS touchpad which Xfce claims is a "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad" and a pointer stick claimed to be a "DualPoint Stick" I have the synaptic touchpad drivers installed and xorg input hotplugging on, and it works 95% of the time reliably. However, rarely, a mouse button will either act wedged down or will not respond untill I hammer the other mouse buttons for a second or so. As well, no matter what I try, I cannot get the side of the mousepad to act as a scroll wheel.
The following is the contents of my HAL configuration for the mousepad at /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi . I got it online from a wiki posting it ( http://www.linlap.com/wiki/dell+precision+m4400 ), and it fixed an earlier problems with the mousepad settings resetting on resume from suspend-to-RAM (as it fell back to PS/2 mouse emulation, I think).

  • Disable alps touchpad in G550 laptop ?

I have a lenovo G550 series laptop. Is there any ways I can disable the ALPS touchpad when I plug in usb mouse.
In my older HP laptop, I could disable it after installing microsoft mouse drivers. But, this option does not come up even after installing the drivers for mouse.

    hey ana,
this is awesome. Did not notice/realized this fn+f8 combination. I can live with that now.
The best option is in HP laptops where they provide a switch to on of off the touch pad.
Though my HP also uses alps touchpad like this one, it provides the option to disable touchpad
while lenovo does not. I thought it must have something to do with the softwares for the alps
but still could not find the solution.

  • Satellite U400-150 (PSU45E) - ALPS touchpad issue

    Hello,
I am trying to solve some issues regarding touchpad. My Toshiba U400-150 PSU45E has been equiped in ALPS touchpad (instead od synaptics, which is much better by the way).
Previously I worked on another manufactures laptop with Synaptics and the software for it had advanced options, better than ALPS.
    1. When I use ALPS driver the movement of coursor seems to be little "jumpy", any movement regulations don't help. So I uninstalled ALPS driver, installed Synaptisc and the movement was fluent. However the software for Synaptics did not include all the advanced options (such as touch areas, scrolling, etc). Therefore I restored the driver for ALPS again, and the 'jumpy' movement returned. I assume that the driver is not as good as synaptics.
    2. I need actually emulation for middle button. In synaptisc there was such option in "touch areas". I was using top right corner for emulation of middle mouse button. I was searching for such option in ALPS driver but there is no any .
I woud be gratefull for any sollutions, suggestions regarding issue 1 and 2. Is there any possibility to emulate middle mouse button in ALPS?
    TIA.

Vista, however I am pretty sure that the "jumpy" movement depends on the driver, when I use any Linux (liveCD), the movement is smooth.
I have already updated the driver, didn't help.
The most annoying problem is that I can not emulate the middle mouse button in ALPS driver.
Is there any third party software that could do that?

You have horizontal scrolling explicitly disabled in your xorg.conf - it seems.  As for "SHMConfig" I have it enabled using "on" rather than "true".  You have an ALPS touchpad - not Synaptic by the way - so instructions specific to Synaptic touchpads might not work for you.
Also - you might have to enable the option "SendCoreEvents" by adding "true".
Thanks for the suggestions, fwojciec.  Yes, I disabled horizontal scrolling long ago.  It drives me nuts.  Vertical scrolling is a-ok, though.  I set SHMConfig to "on" instead of "true", but no effect.  I also added "true" to the Option "SendCoreEvents", but no luck.  Thanks for the attempt!

  • Need Windows 8 32-bit driver for Alps touchpad on HP Pavilion dv4000 CTO Notebook PC to fix scroll.

Alps touchpad cursor works fine, just need to fix gestures and scrolling.
I know it's an older laptop which came with XP Pro, but wanted to extend the life of it and everything else works fine with fresh install of 32-bit Windows 8 Pro.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue fixing the gestures for the touchpad on your notebook. I will link a document here for you which should guide you through a couple of steps on how to change the gesture on the touchpad.
In this document you will need to follow a couple of sections. I circled the sections you need to follow here:
If this by any chance doesn't resolve your issue please let me know. Also, if you have any more questions please ask.

  • G550 Alps touchpad New driver 7.7.1602.501

    Hi All,
This topic is based on the G550 alps touchpad topic that has been discussed for some times. If you would like to know more, please check it out here, the topic created by digitaleagle.
I created this new topic for the previous thread was too long to read. In addition, it would be easier for new users to track on the progress of the new driver we have recently published on the support site.
    Alps Touchpad for Win 7 32bit - 7.7.1602.501
    Alps Touchpad Win 7 64bit - 7.107.1602.501
There are some comments from our users who have tried it out before the drivers were officially published on the web. I really appreciate that. Thus, if any of you have comments about the new driver besides the feedbacks posted in the old thread, please do share with us.
    Thank you!

Just downloaded and installed the driver and it does exactly what is needed.
I can now turn off the automatic dragging (which caused me to move so many files by accident) and adjust the tap speed etc.

  • Satellite U500 - ALPS touchpad driver for WIndows 7 64bit

I have a U500-00X012 (Australian Model) which I have updated to Windows 7 64bit. The Toshiba Australia website says to use the Vista 64bit ALPS touchpad driver. I could not get any Vista driver to work with my U500.
The correct driver is available from the Toshiba Europe website http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-20091112112139.zip
    The driver is v7.105.303.117
Hope this saves somebody the many hours I have wasted trying to get the touchpad to work.

    Hi TwoLags,
when I installed any of the three versions of 64 bit Vista drivers available on the Toshiba Australia Website, they all install fine without any errors. After rebooting the laptop Device Manager says the ALPS touchpad is installed and working correctly. The icon for the touchpad appears on the taskbar but the touchpad just does not work at all!!
The driver link that I posted installs just the same as the other drivers, but it actually works.
I have no idea why the Toshiba Australia website only links to drivers that don't work and the Toshiba Europe website links to later drivers that do work. I have asked Toshiba Australia Support this question.

  • How can I activate the back and forward gestue with an Alps Touchpad in firefox 5 an 6. In Firefox 3.6 it already runs.

    I have Windows 7 64 bit
    Firefox 6
in about config is the Gesture back and forward activated
I have an Acer Notebook with Alps Touchpad.
In Firefox 3.6 the Gesture funktion already runs

You can't run Firefox 3 versions on Windows 98.
Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last release that runs on the Windows 98 and Windows ME platform.

but xorg said that synaptics modules not found.. how come it doesnt work with synaptics drivers?

    Ok.. I did like this:
first I located the pcidata.o, it was in folder:
    /usr/lib/xorg/modules/
    then:
    cd /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/
    ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/synaptics_drv.o synaptics_drv.o
And  now it works like a charm.. I would be nice if it could be in the right folder from the beginning..
    Cheers & thanx

  • Emachines E525 - Alps Touchpad Pointer stopped working

my laptop's Alps Touchpad Pointer stopped working, but the software shows it as "working properly." Touching the pad or clicking the buttons does nothing though. Restarts and reinstalling the driver has also done nothing. Whats going on? This laptop is only 12-16 months old and the touchpad is already dead? Help please!

Sounds like you need to get it fixed, not sure how much touchpad fixing cost at best buy. But if its over 300 I would suggest looking for a better brand notebook.
