Alright so this is a bit of burning speed genius
My theory on one issue with iTunes 7 is that the Max Burning option has a bug; now you can view this genius in action and with enough bragging sack the 10pts for it: o h h e ll too much greed in the world as it is.
But seriously if you want to avoid problems with burning lower the speed to 24x or less (assuming your having problems and I'd like to hear it from people who don't [you could remind that poster here that your supposed to post reward starfish])

If you can't force the unit to reset (by holding down the menu and play buttons for a while on 3G iPods), then it's just busted. Take it back or replace it.
However, you might want to toggle the lock switch a few times. I've had mine stop responding to button presses before and that always cured it up.
As for making it work again, you'll have to run a Restore on it using the iPod Software Updater. No other choice.

How to copy and paste the graphics from illustrator to MS word. What I tried is exporting in png with highest resolution and then inserting in to word. This loses a bit of resolution in comparison to direct copy and paste as EMF. But if I do a copy and paste, and then take a print of the document, all the graphs and text is printed upside down, flipped back.

Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk. internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848. But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.

I keep trying to burn a CD-R in Iphoto, and every time iPhoto stops burning halfway through and i get this error message, "Attemp to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." I am using memorex CD-R's and have tried with 4 times with different CD's. Is this a software or hardware problem? Any info would be awesome
Export the photos to a desktop folder, right click on the folder and burn to disk - see if that is any different

For the first time since upgrading to 10.3.9 I'm trying to burn a data disc from iTunes to backup some files. It fails every time and ruins the blank CD. This is getting expensive!
The CDs are Phillips CD-R 52x. (Yes, I've used blanks from this very box before the 10.3.9 upgrade and it never failed before.) iTunes was set to 24x burn then changed to "maximum possible" for the burn speed.
Most times it looks like it's burning the playlist but around the 5th file it spits it out and gives the error "itunes can't burn this cd because the burn speed is too fast for your cd burner or media". Sometims it just locks up itunes with "checking media" and I have to force quit iTunes. Then the disc is ruined. It won't even show up in Finder.
Ugh. Anyone know how to fix this?

My mac keeps saying medium-write error, and it's become out of hand. I've done all the suggested things to prevent it, by buying apple CDs, minimizing the burn speed, and restarting my computer... I need to burn CDs for my job, and I am a firm apple supporter... This is just out of control it took me 90 mins to finally burn a CD, because I had to go through 10 other CDs... HELP.
I doubt they're any better than anything else.

I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?

This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none. -

How do you choose the best burn speed in Disk Burner?
I am using OS 10.1.5 and I found the Disk Burner settings in the "Disk Copy" Utility. I clicked on the preferences (of the "Disk Copy" Utility) and then set the burn speed to "maximum possible". When I burned the DVD however it gave me an error. And so I thought maybe I would choose a slower speed. However I do not know what speed it was actually using when I had selected "maximum possible".
Is there a way, when you select "maximum possible", that you can identify exactly what speed Disk Burner is using?
So I am going to guess that the maximum speed for my burner is 4x (due to the fact that it takes about 30 minutes to burn a 4 GIG DVD)
So then I chose 2 x to see if that would work.
2 x also caused the same error (error code - 7932)
Maybe I will try 1x next.
I have the feeling the error may not have been because of the speed at all and may be because of the size of the DVD I am trying to write. I have had success writing DVDs that are under 4.1 GIGs. Anything larger than 4.1 generates that error. If this is so, it is most likely because I was forced to make my startup partition for OSX 7.99 GIGS. Thats a little small for burning DVDs but I didn't have much choice because of this limit on beige G3 models and OSX.
Well back to my original question:
Is there a way, when you select "maximum possible", that you can identify exactly what speed Disk Burner is using?
ThanksNot sure if it is different in your version of OS X, but in 10.3, you can go to Applications -> Utilities then run the Terminal application. At the prompt type in drutil info and hit return. This should give you all the info on your optical drive including who is the manufacturer and model number. With those two last bits of info, you can simply do an internet search and find info on your drive including maximum burn speed.
As to in your system, the maximum burn speed will be whatever is ranked lower, the drive speed or the media (blank speed). So if your drive is 8x and your media is rated 4x, then theoretical max speed is four times. Of course it could end up even lower if, for example, your drive does not understand the speed rating on the media you bought, it which case it would likely then default to 1x speed.
I think if you pull up, again speaking in terms of Panther here, the activity console one of the logs will tell you what speed was used. I am not at home right now, so I can not actually dig through my computer to tell you exactly where to look.

Everytime I try to burn an Audio CD in iTunes it will always burn at the fastest speed possible. Even if I set the burn speed to 1x. Does anybody have a solution to this problem. I've already tried deleting the preferences file.

Burn speed - revisited - Macworld
Back from Macworld, talking to the Disc Maker guy about burn speed. Here is what I do.
1. Build project
2. Burn using Toast as slow as you can, DVD1x - don't use computer during burn.
3. Take master to our DiscMaker 4 burner. Copy to drive, Set burn speed as slow as I can, 1x
4. Burn blank media
He said it is not necessary to burn the copies at 1x. Good to burn the master slowly but set the burn speed on the DiscMaker at the speed of the blank media (presently Taiyo Yuden 8x)
Experts, what do you think?On the video yearbook issue it may be worthwhile to have it replicated (not duplicated). Usually 1,000 is a minimum for most places else you get whacked with mastering charges. BUT seeing it is a yearbook it would seem to be better to pay a bit more - the students will buy them.
(FWIW I have not priced short runs like that recently, but I am not talking about $10 a unit including mastering. In fact you may want to do a run of 1,000 just due to pricing and you should be able to get it printed packaged and delivered for a price where students can buy 1 and get 1 half price for grandpaarents or something. Not sure if it is a profit center for you (are you part of the school?) But you can sell them for a price where people will not even blink. And alot less than what I paid for any of my print yearbooks Of course knowing this made me get real angry when I saw the junk that was foisted on my niece as a DVD Yearbook for some ungodly price if like $35 -:(
