ALsa + Soundblaster Live 5.1 + 5.1 Sound

HI there!
I finally bought a 5.1 Surround System today, but I have a major problem. Only the Subwoofer, Fron-Left- and Front-Right-Speakers are working, no Sound from Center, Surround-Left- and Surround-Right-Speakers
Here is my modules.conf, Alsa-Page says it should work:
# module : ALSA
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 snd_cards_limit=1
options snd-emu10k1 snd_index=0 snd_id="EMU10K1" snd_extout=0x1f0f
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd-pcm-oss snd_dsp_map=0 snd_adsp_map=3
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
And now my .asounrc
pcm.emu10k1 {
type hw
card 0
ctl.emu10k1 {
type hw
card 0
I tried so much already and nothing works
I played around with alsamixer and I finally got the Center-Speaker to work, but it just works instead of the Front-Left-Speaker. It really sucks.
Maybe you can help me, it would be nice.

i had some same issues , but i have soundblaster live 24-bit , but disabling the onboard bios didnt do anything for me , so i had to look for some ways to figure out how to fix this , * love thy google.com/linux *
bash# speaker-test -c6 -t2 ( this is to test your surround speakers , providing your using ca0106 driver such as myself )
if you only get a few channels you could also make your ~/.asoundrc file with some goodies in it  ill post a few examples i have found
pcm.ca0106 {
type hw
card 0
ctl.ca0106 {
type hw
card 0
ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 0

    slave {
        pcm "hw:0"
        period_time 0
        period_size 1024
        buffer_size 4096
        rate 44100
ctl.dout {
type hw
card 0
pcm.duplicate {
type plug
slave.pcm "surround51"
slave.channels 6
route_policy duplicate
pcm.dmixs51 {
  type dmix
  ipc_key 1024
  slave {
    pcm "hw:0,1"
    rate 48000
    channels 6
    period_time 0
    period_size 1024

pcm.!default {
  type plug
  slave.pcm "dmixs51"
pcm.duplicate {
  type plug
  slave.pcm "dmixs51"
  slave.channels 6
  route_policy duplicate
Now dont forget to run alsaconf before you do this and make sure you have 5.1 surround speakers for this as well
any other questions about the soundblaster live 24-bit , contact me and ill try to help if i can , ( i have been reading about this for days  )

  • Soundblaster Live! 24-bit No Sound Prob

    I installed this sound card on my windows xp sp2 comp and it worked fine, I went to install the same soundblaster li've! 24-bit card on my windows 2000 sp4 comp and installation went fine. My problem is I get no sound what so ever on my windows 2000 comp and my windows xp comp did, I tried plugging in different speakers, headphones, and any other audio devices I could find that I know worked(tested on numerous things besides my windows 2000 comp) and nothing works. Driver version is 5.2..34, which came directly off the CD from the retail box that I purchase. I could not find any new drivers for this sound card off Creative's website, so I figure there wasn't any new releases. My sound panel has all my volume controls at 00%, the Creative Surround Mixer has all my volume controls set at 00%, and I know for a fact I have everything plugged in correct(Audio output device plugged into green, mic plugged into blue, nothing in orange or black). Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.
    EDIT: System specs are;
    AMD Athlon XP 2200+, 768mb RAM, Radeon 9600xt, FIC motherboard.

    Seventhwind,
    Did you check Speaker Settings application and ensure that the Digital Output Only option has not been enabled.
    Also disable any onboard audio from the BIOS if any.

  • SoundBlaster Live! 24 and Vista - Deteriorating Sound Qual

    I've recently upgraded to Vista Business, and my system informs me that except for the drivers for an ancient scanner all is working properly.
    When playing music (using a Creative SB Li've 24bit card with the most recent driver installed), all starts off well (in fact playback is better than under XP Pro) but the sound quality starts to deteriorate badly, especially when I open a browser. Quite often the browser itself seems to freeze.
    I have 3Gb RAM, with a 3.60Ghz P4 processor.
    Task Manager tells me that often I am running at 00% of CPU capacity, though the problem seems to occur at lower usage too.
    I've checked everything I know to check but just can't seem to get to the root of the problem. Can anyone suggest anything I should be looking at?

    Sadly no real progress.
    I simply pulled the Soundblaster Live 24 out of the computer and am using the onboard sound instead which at least for me Arch recognized just fine.
    I haven't been able to get any suggestions for why the Soundblaster was not working, but I am going to try another sound card a friend lent me and see what happens.

  • 5.1 sound problems (ALSA+SB Live digital out)

    I'm trying to get 5.1 audio in an old machine, using xfce desktop (no much graphical tools included) and a SoundBlaster Live soundcard
    So far, digital spdif output is working, but the problem is that only front speakers work, not rear nor center/lfe
    in fact sometimes front left does not work :?
    I'm testing it with
    speaker-test -c 6 -D surround51 -twav
    I think alsamixer controls are ok
    Any idea?

    I thnk tomorrow I'm testing with a similar soundcard (same model) to see if the soundcard itself is not working properly

  • SoundBlaster Live! vs Onboard Sound

    #Hey guys, I just have a simple question to ask you as I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to sound cards. I have an onboard soundcard thats on my ASUS A8N CM VSM that uses SoundMax drivers, simple stuff. I also have a SoundBlaster Li've! from an old computer. Just wondering, is the SB Li've a better card? Would it be beneficial for me to install it's?
    Thanks

    'Re: SoundBlaster Li've! vs Onboard Sound-Well, technically, yes, even such an oldie will be better than that built-in sound that you have. But in fact, the difference is not that huge. When listening to loud?music?you'll hardly notice the difference between, say, 80 and 90 db noise that these cards provide. I?compared my old SB Li've! (SB000) with such an embedded codec and I only noticed some timbral differences: in my case the built-in codec didn't produce as rich bass and clear treble as the Li've!
    Plus, the Li've! card supports EAX in games. Plus, with Li've! you can play MIDI with Soundfonts (SF2), although today it's not an often used feature.
    The only problem with Li've! is drivers. If you?use Vista or Windows7, then there is no official driver. You only can use alternati've drivers like Vista Support Pack by Daniel_K or the one from KXProject (better). But if you have more than 2 gigs of memory installed or an x64 OS, then both drivers will be half-working (there will be a problem with MIDI playback).
    So it's up to you. My advice is to use Li've! with KX-driver.

  • Soundblaster live gameport not working on k7n2 delta-L

    i have a k7n2 delta-L motherboard and i installed a soundblaster live sound card and can not get the game port to work at all. first i thought it was a bad card so i installed a different card and the same thing so ithen thought it was the game controller and tried a different one and it didnt work either . and yes i disabled the on board sound in the bios before installing the card. i have it in ide slot #3. seems to be the best to go with .i am running win 98 se. and all my drivers are up to date. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

    fourhooffarms,
    In the BIOS Disable the onboard Realtek Sound and then put the Live! in PCI Slot 3 or 4, then set the IRQ of that Slot to IRQ5.
    Also list all your IRQs and every Device on each IRQ.
    Take Care,
    Richard
    P.S. Do list the specs on your Power Supply too.

  • MSI K9N DIAMOND CA0106 chipset AUDIGY or SOUNDBLASTER LIVE 24

    I have 2 PC's one with an MSI K8N SLI PLATINUM mobo with onboard SOUNDBLASTER 24bit li've (CA006)
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=69&maincat_no=&cat 2_no=&cat3_no=
    This system has run fine for over 2-/2 years now with no troubles it was connected to my PIONEER VSX 86 via SPDIF/toslink? and has excellent sound and performed all that I wanted including DTS DVD's and all my music video clips, DIVX movies etc etc
    The trouble is, I have just setup my new system
    MSI K9N DIAMOND also with the onboard Creative sound (CA006) and comes supplied with the Creative Audigy disc
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=028&maincat_no=&ca t2_no=7
    When I try to install the drivers/setup disc it tells me that there is no Audigy onboard/installed? I have managed to install the drivers/disc from the previous soundblaster li've 24bit, It does work with the Audigy goldmine demo and has all channels of sound as it should but in the Surround mixer speaker settings it will only sound out 2 speakers even when it shows all 5. as it is currently configured
    I have tried to download many other drivers with no luck
    My main concern is the creative programs from my old system are not what I want, I paid for an AUDIGY setup not LIVE
    Is it possible to get the AUDIGY onboard running as it should (showing AUDIGY in hardware manager, not LIVE 24bit)
    I would like to be able to run the newer software from the AUDIGY disc but it is not compatible when the LIVE drivers are installed
    I have had one set of drivers display AUDIGY in the hardware manager but when I tried to use the speaker settings etc it fails and says soundcard not found even though it clearly shows AUDIGY drivers are installed
    I have been very happy with the creative sound so far on my first MSI system but I'm not very impressed with this setup and I'm still not sure who's fault it is MSI or CREATIVE?
    Can someone give me some details as to what is going on here, I would like to know if it is also possible to use some kind of new software/programs for the soundblaster LIVE that has maybe more settings/functions or just a later better style as I may have to use the same on my new system
    The menu's etc in my new manual (K9N DIAMOND) look almost identical to those included with the K8N SLI, The disc included with the K9N DIAMOND has an AUDIGY quick start program/demo which gives you a preview/guide on how to use the supposed AUDIGY which has all new menu's, layout and features which im unable to use?
    As mentioned I have used the soundblaster 24bit LIVE for well over 2 years now connected to my PIONEER VSX86 via a digital cable so all the previous settings etc have been compared and doublechecked but im unable to find answers, If I am unable to find help or any way to install the AUDIGY as im meant to have I may resort to fitting another soundcard and I may got to another brand unfortunately
    Any help appreciated

    If I am right the onboard Audigy on the MSI K9N Diamond utilizes the CA006 chip instead of the EMU0k2, therefore it is not a real/genuine Audigy soundcard. In fact it's the same as your former soundblaster li've 24bit which also utilizes the same CA006 chipset. That's why you can use the driver from the SB li've 24bit for your new "Audigy" onboard sound. Also there are other soundcards that are not genuine Audigy soundcards: Audigy Se, Audigy LS and, yes, also the X-fi Xtreme Audio, all utilizing the same chip, CA006. Creative Labs use some marketing techniques, add some different (newer) software/apps for the soundcard and give the soundcard (with the same chipset) a different name. In my opinion, if you for example buy a X-fi Xtreme Audio you in fact for the most part paid for the included newer softwares (which for example add "X-fi features like Crystalizer etc.).
    If you really want a better soundcard, maybe go for the X-fi XtremeMusic or XtremeGamer which utilizes the genuine EMU20K chip (with hardware acceleration). The soundquality is significantly higher than the soundcards with the CA006 chip.
    As for the drivers for the soundcard:
    Official Creative Labs driver for Sound Blaster? Audigy? Value/SE/LS, or Sound Blaster Li've!? 24-bit audio devices
    Good luck!

  • Problem with DTT3500 soundset and onboard Soundblaster live! 24-bit

    Hi,
    I have bought a new PC with an MSI k8n sli platinum MB. this mainboard has a built in soundblaster live!24-bit chip onboard. it works great on headphones and normal 2 set speakers (analog connection).
    however, when I try to set them up at the DTT3500 speaker set, trouble begins.
    before continuing, just want to say First that my older PC is standing next to it, with a Soundblaster live! 5.1. If I connect with this PC to my speaker set, via the digital uitput, everythin works great. (5.1 surround).
    In the DTT3500 manual, when Digital DIN is blinking, it says it isn't recieving any signal, or not the right one (like AC-3). (I know this when on my old PC when I switch to headphones, the digital din is then blinking, which is normal as I disabled Digital output in Windows)
    now my questions:
    Is this digital port is ac-3 signal or somthing else on the Soundblaster live! 24-bit?
    Do I need to use another type of cable, like SPDIF Din Cable? (I now have a minijack to Din cable)
    I tried with optical, it works, but only with 2 speakers (left and right / digital output is on). is this normal? If i look at the manual, it's typical used for gameconsoles with stereo left and right. I guess this is so with the DDT3500 decoder...?
    if I try Digital Din on the Decoder, it doesn't work. the Decoder Led keeps blinking. Yet in Windows, digital output is on and 5.1 speakers is selected.
    In short, exact the same setup on the Decoder and PC as my older PC.
    My guess is the the soundblaster live! 24-bit is an enhanced version of the soundblaster live! 5.1? Am I wrong, I don't know....
    I do know that the reviews said you could use the digital port (orange one)
    here is a picture:
    http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/reviewimage.php?id=05boardnf4sli00microstak8nslipt0104&file=panel.jpg
    and here more info on it: http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/review.php?id=05boardnf4sli00microstak8nslipt0204
    I would apreciate any help, as i'm really stuck at the moment.

    does anybody use the soundblaster live! 24-bit to  power a surround speaker set? or is it just impossible? (for gaming)

    However, now is where things start to get strange. In days gone by I used to have, simply, a device node /dev/dsp which was the sound device. I'm pretty sure that my card supports hardware mixing which explains why I only had a single hardware device and not heaps of software ones. But now:
    [owen@oblong ~]$ ls /dev/ | grep dsp
    [owen@oblong ~]$
    [owen@oblong ~]$ ls /dev/snd/
    seq  timer
    Where the wiki says: If you have at least the devices controlC0 and pcmC0D0p or similar, then your sound modules have been detected and loaded properly.
    And the result of some other commands:
    [owen@oblong ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa restart
    Password:
    :: Saving ALSA Levels                                                                                                                                    [BUSY] /usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1502: No soundcards found...

    Same for alsamixer:
    [owen@oblong ~]$ alsamixer
    alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
    Running alsaconf goes through all the normal steps, detects my card, sets it up etc, but when it tries to restart the alsa service (as above) the same result is had.
    Any ideas? I'm totally stumped.

  • Screeching sounds in games and other problems with Soundblaster live extern

    Okay i have the USB external Creative soundblaster li've sound card. i have had a few problems. My first problem is When im in games such as Americas Army i get random Screeches like a tin can being scraped on concrete. My 2nd problem is Talking with my mic. For others to hear me MONITORING has to be enabled, there for i hear myself out of my own speakers as well. I have done everything to try and fix this, i've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, using windows automatic drivers. Is there an option i dont see that is causing my card to not sound good? I am using a 2.0 speaker configuration, and i only play the games with headphones on.
    please help.
    thanks for your time.Message Edited by Zombeh on 0-6-2006 08:30 AM

    You waited 24 hours and gave up? So I'll offer this for anybody else who reads the thread. I have a USB external SB card, but it's in a box somewhere. But IIRC, the Volume Controls work similar to other SB cards. In Volume Controls, Playback, mute the Microphone. In Volume Controls, Recording, select Microphone. This should let you "record" without hearing it on your speakers. Now if a game sets the mixer options for itself, that complicates things. If allowed, choose game audio options similar to these Volume Controls.

    > i have surround sound only when i play *.acc files but with *.mp3 files it doesnt work
    You'll have to enable surround matrix decoding for stereo material. There are several analog encoding standards (Dolby Surround, Dolby ProLogic, Dolby ProLogic II) but Creative's driver doesn't have an official decoder for any of them Instead, they provide their home-grown decoders and call them CMSS or DTS NEO:6. I can only assume they want to dodge Dolby's license payments by not supporting familiar standards. Anyway, you will find the CMSS modes in the driver or, in case of NEO, in their mediasource player. NEO - because it's in a player and not in the driver - is out of reach for other players such as WinAmp or multimedia and TV software.
    If you plan to listen to music only, the Creative CMSS matrix decoders ("upmix") might satisfy you. If you plan to watch movies or watch TV, you will find that, with exception of DTS NEO:6, they are not good at all. A ProLogic II decoder sounds much better. If you are lucky, your player has a software ProLogic decoder. For example, WinDVD has one. Unfortunately, in that case the soundcard's high tech DSP - which you payed $$$ for - will not be used at all.
    An alternati've solution for non-gamers (for movies and music) is to install the kx driver from the kx project at http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en
    For music, this driver - strangely enough - not only sounds better than Creative's own player, it is also far more configurable. For example, if your center speaker is from a differerent brand than the main speakers, you can put an equalizer before it. Or you can redirect bass from small speakers to larger speakers and not just to the subwoofer, as is the case with Creative's drivers. The options are endless. You can even create totally different configurations for different situations (movie/music/...) and switch on the fly. Other benefits: the driver is very small and very fast, everything happens instantly. However, its user interface is weird and the project lacks documentation. You will need determination on the first day. Afterwards, you will be able to configure your music/movie system to sound far better than with Creative's driver and customize details that simply can not be customized with the official driver. And the best thing: everything will run inside the card's DSP and the computer's CPU is free to do other stuff. Btw, the link above leads you to the last official release. I have Soundblaster li've platinum 5.. I have just formatted and restored all my software.
    I can not get any sound from the inputs from the front panal of my sound card.
    I am using XP. If I uninstall the software for sound card i can then get sound through an instrument plugged into the dual line in/mic socket. But as soon as i reistall the software it goes.
    I have downloaded the patch from the site, all updates for xp service packs are installed.
    I have installed the sound card then service pack and then vice versa but still nothing.
    HELP its driving me somewhat mad.
    Andy suggestions will be greatly recieved.
    cheers

    I can appreciate sarcasm as much as the next person, but I think you should take a look at the announcement at the top of each board: "These forums are primarily intended for user interaction. Read more."
    sloman - it would be strange the driver stops working once you install the driver. Did you check the mixer (when the driver is installed)? You didn't mention which options are set there, but as long as this is all selected it should work. Do the headphones work on the dri've then? Can you record from the input on the back of the card?

  • No sound - failed diagnostics - Soundblaster Live 24

    <FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff66cc size=4>Hi - I need HELP!!
    <FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff66cc size=4>
    <FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff66cc size=4>HP Pavilion with Windows ME stopped working, so I used recovery discs to start over. Since that time, no sound has come from computer at all. Yesterday, purchased a Soundblaster Li've 24 bit sound card and installed it, and still no sound. All diagnostics tests fail, except for the first one - hardware. There are no "X's" or "!" next to Soundblaster in the device manager and it says its working fine. However, in the control panel under sounds - audio, all options are greyed out completely.

    <FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#ff66cc size=4>I spent $40 to talk to tech support at HP to try to resolve the problem. The tech had me go into F during startup into the setup, go to advanced, and change Soundblaster from "disabled" to "enabled." But whenever that is changed to enabled, computer automatically shuts off.

    Thejet7,
    It sounds like you have an onboard sound card that may still be enabled. This is usually required to be disabled in the BIOS (the setup menu that you went to by hitting F at system startup). One thing you can try to do to see if it will work would be to go to control panel/multimedia and on the Audio Tab make sure that the Sound Blaster Li've! is selected as the preferred playback device.
    I think that HP may have done the opposite of what you needed done. The onboard sound card needs to be disabled otherwise you will probably have problems like this.

  • Help - K8N Neo4 SLI - sound inputs TOO LOUD! (SoundBlaster Live!)

    I have two sources for Line In sound; XM Radio and  Leadtek TV Tuner Card.  In both cases, the sound going from the card is so loud it is distorted even at only 1% of volume on the Soublaster Mixer.  This happens whether I plug them into my Line In or Microphone inputs.
    Does anyone have any ideas how I can "Tone Down" the signal, so I can turn the sliders up to at least a few percent without it distorting?
    Thanks for looking - thanks even more if you respond.

    Hi there,
    You probably have activate some enhancements in the mixer like 'Mic Boost' or 'Digital Input' those are found in the right side of the mixer they are tick boxes.
    Untick them...
    Sorrryyyy.....the above is for the ALC 850 chip not for the Creative one....so I'm in the dark, but try to uninstall the drivers and install them again maybe it works.
    BTW keep us posted....
    Be well....
