Alsa startup messages

Every alsa daemon startup I get following messages:
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:989: warning: name mismatch (3D Control - Center/Mic Select) for control #28
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:991: warning: index mismatch (0/0) for control #28
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:993: failed to obtain info for control #28 (Operation not permitted)
what does this mean?
I have 2 soundcards:
0 [nForce2 ]: NFORCE - NVidia nForce2
NVidia nForce2 with ALC655 at irq 18
1 [YMF740C ]: YMF740C - Yamaha DS-1L (YMF740C)
Yamaha DS-1L (YMF740C) at 0xec000000, irq 20
Sound state saves/restores with random success.
Thanks in advance!

I use both.
First I've used explicit load method throught MODULES.
Then I've deleted it. Soundcards' numbers exchanged and these messages appeared.

  • Startup message: lexsleeper.app - please help!

    Hi all
I am getting irritating startup messages that look like this:
“/Library/StartupItems/LexSleeperX.app” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings"
I have read around a little and have found that its because of my lexmark printer, which I have since uninstalled to try again later
I also gather that all i need to do to get rid of this is to go into the folder 'startup items' and get rid of the offending file, but i cant find the startupitems folder anywhere. Spotlight doesnt help, logging in as the root user doesnt help, viewing hidden files and folders (using a program called houdini) doesnt help.
Any suggestions? I have a new macbook and am running osx version 10.6.4
    Thanks!

Try searching with Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Spotlight does not search system folders by default.

  • What does these startup messages mean?

Hi, well today when starting up my box I noticed these two startup messages:
    :: Initiate Random Seed
    :: Removing LeftOver files
What does these mean? And what program/service runs it? (And what 'left over files' is it removing?) I think I never see them before. Is these message appears because I just install sudo?
Also when shutting down there is also a message concerning a Random Seed. (Saving Random Seed).  What is it doing?

Well...  if your head over to your /etc/rc.sysinit, you'll see exactly what it does.  If I remember correctly, saving random seed is just saving your startup time because it is random, and removing leftover files is clearing out the /tmp/ directory.

  • WebLogic Server Startup Messages

I was wondering if there was a way to filter out the server startup messages from the server logs. I am using log4j and have set all the severity levels for the logs to "WARNING" but these settings seem to be loaded after the server starts so I see a handful of "INFO" and "NOTICE" messages in the logs whenever the server is restarted. The log in question is the AdminServer.log if that is pertinent.

  • Startup message Error

On startup I get this message
    "/Library/Startup/Icon
has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings"
I click on OK to get rid of message
When I migrated to Snow Leopard I thought it might be solved but no. I have now migrated to Mavericks and guess what ..... so has the message.
Yet the folder in Library/Startup is empty?
    Frank

Yet the folder in Library/Startup is empty?
I assume you really mean "StartupItems" was empty not Startup
    I looked at my /Library/StartupItems:
There are a number of items, but no "Icon"
All of those present in my system can be related to software I've installed.
Perhaps somehow you have some piece of software that has been partially removed?
I not sure how you determined that the StartupItems folder was empty, but try from Terminal the following command just for sanity check:
    ls -al /Library/StartupItems/
    And post the output.

  • Weird startup message...what does it mean?

I get this message at startup:
    Insecure Startup Item Disabled
"/Library/Startupitems/LoginServer" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
What does it mean and how do I get rid of it?

Select the text between the quotes in your message above. From the menu bar, select Safari > Services > Files and Folders > Show Info. Click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the Info window and authenticate. If necessary, change the permissions of the item to:
    system        Read & Write
    wheel (group) Read only
    everyone      Read only
From the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items." Close the Info window.

    Ananda,
If you're starting the server from the command line, this is normal behavior. All these messages will output to the console and logs. If you start this from the GUI interface, the output will go to the logs.

  • How do you avoid startup messages?

Hi, I've currently had to change the RAM on my Elitebook and it's popping up the screen during startup saying it's incompatible and that i'm to press enter if I want to continue. I know the problem is due to a different voltage but for now this has to function as it is at least for now. How do I get my laptop to stop prompting me with that screen every time I restart it? It's not because I'm too impatient to press [Enter] but simply cos I have to use it at work and I really need to avoid them asking a bunch of questions why that screen is showing up etc. Can you help please???

Let's get this figured out! When you say forwarding are you just trying to forward the same context to another contact? Or are you trying to have all of your text forward to another device? Have you ever been able to forward text messages? Is this only when you try to forward media of also regular text messages? Please provide additional detail so we can resolve this issue.

  • Where are the startup messages logged? [solved]

Where is the startup output logged? I catch a glimpse of a red [FAIL] but it dumps to the login screen too quick and everything is cleared before I can read the error.

They aren't logged anywhere. though to read the message, you can try either of these options.

  • Normal Startup Messages (System.log; Intel Verbose Mode)?

Over this past weekend, I wanted to test the backup I had for my 24" iMac. I had always used Apple's Backup program that comes with .Mac when I had my PowerBook, and never tested it. This was bad, because it didn't work when I actually needed it.
I also suspected there might be something slightly wrong with my iMac, so equipped with about 4 hours and my install DVDs i went to work.
The only thing I've done so far is get all the Apple updates and setup my iChat account. I changed to boot in verbose mode, and found that the eery messages that scared me prior to doing my reinstallation of OS X (I zeroed the drive, then did a full install) were still there.
    Here is my entire System.log:

The lines that concern me are the ones bolded at the top of System.log
The other thing that is a bit unnerving to me is that when I have it set to boot in verbose mode, and then restart the computer, I get a screen that looks out of place. It is a box with a dark background in the center of the screen with text in there, and then it quickly switches to full screen verbose mode. The first line of full screen verbose mode (which is what I'm used to since I always used verbose mode on my PowerBook) is this one:
Jan 30 09:23:08 localhost kernel[0]: hi mem tramps at 0xffe00000
In the centered text, it mentions something about "loading drivers" followed by many lines of periods. It is only up for about 5 seconds, and then switches to full screen verbose mode. Is that centered window for verbose mode new to intel Macs? I never recall seeing it on my PowerBook.
When i googled around for the "hi mem tramps" message, i found it might be linked to bad ram. I used memtest and did 3 passes to check the ram, and it found no errors.
Are these messages in System.log normal?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Mike.
First, please don't use the "scatter gun" or "post everywhere" approach. I see you've also post the same question here. I appreciate your urgent desire for help, but it would be very annoying to anyone answering questions here to spend time researching your question in one post, only to find it already answered in another place where it was also posted. The "scatter gun" approach is a good way to get all your future posts ignored.
According to what I read in the second post of this topic on another forum, I suspect you may have a Startup Item that's causing the highlighted messages to be written to system.log. Perhaps some PowerPC code you may have migrated over to your Intel-based Mac if you used the Setup / Migration Assistant to move to the new Mac from a pervious Mac.
There have been numerous posts about the tfp: failed on 0 message, which can be seen in this search of the Discussions. However, I suspect the explanation I've cited above fits your situation.
If an errant Startup Item is the cause, my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
As to hi mem tramps…, that may be normal. If you read this item and click on the link for dmesg you'll see a typical output someone else posted as, I suspect, an example of "normal."
    Good luck!

  • Startup message

I keep getting a message about freeing up space on my startup disc. It asks me to delete items from it or connect to an external drive.
I am also unable to install any updates.
I have no real idea what this is about. Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix it?
    Many thanks - hopefully.

Oh and I forgot... you could also download Santa Software's MainMenu to clean out caches in case some caches aren't emptied periodically.
Look at this screengrab right here:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
It shows you where to select the cleaning tasks and, for the system, select deep clean. You will need to restart after the cleaning of caches.

  • 9600/350 Startup Message/"Shut Down Improperly..."

    Hi all,
I have this really great PowerMac 9600 with OS 7.6.1 installed and some modest updates. Recently when I shut down and startup I get the message: "This computer may not have been shut down properly the last time it was used. To turn off this computer, always choose Shut Down from...". Well, I know that and I'm careful about it.
It restarts fine and everything else seems good.
I get the same message with only Mac OS 7.6.1 base extensions on too.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Carl

When the OS starts up, it marks the directory on the Hard Drive as "checked out" (like checking out a book at the library). Some updates may be held in RAM memory until Shutdown. At proper shutdown, it writes all the buffered directory information back to the Hard Drive and marks the directory "Up to date".
When you start up the computer, if the directory status is not "Up to date", there may be discrepancies between the actual blocks in use and the entries in the directory, which could lead to loss of data, cross-linked files, or other problems.
To check for and repair such potential problems, you should run Disk First Aid.
It is possible that a program or extension crashing at shutdown could keep the Shutdown from completing properly.

  • How do I set the bootup/startup message in Mac OS X (Tiger)?

Thanks to other users I know I can set the login message via:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText 'your banner text here'
But I would like to set the bootup message that appears before getting to the login window. How is that done?

Right click on the hard drive and select Get Info. (Or select the drive and type command + i).
    1. In the pane that comes up, click on the padlock and authenticate with your password.
    2. Click on your name (in the lower part of the pane) and in Privilege, select Read and Write.
    3. Click on the gear wheel (bottom of the pane) and select Apply to enclosed items.

  • Looking for workaround to iPhoto startup message current screen resol...

    Hi,
I just picked up a Mac Mini to use in my Living Room with Front Row. When I first launched iPhoto to get my library set up, I got a message saying "The current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto". I clicked OK and was able to do everything I needed to however when I started Front Row, I was unable to view Photos if iPhoto wasn't running until I cleared this message.
My screen resolution is set to 800X600 and I can't increase it because if my TV so I'm looking for a way to override this message automatically.
I have a second Mac Mini on order for my basement and I'm going to have the same issue there. I was unable to find anything on the discussion board aside from a tech bulleting saying the display resolution needs to be 800*600 or greater.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
