Alt-arrow key to copy in CS2?

It's been a while since I've been able to use Illustrator, and now I have gone from Illustrator 10 to CS2.  One feature I used to use all the time was to make copies of paths or objects by clicking alt and an arrow key at the same time.
From what I'm finding in online searching, that *should* work in CS2, but for some reason it's not.
I'm trying to alt-arrow on a grid, snapping to grid and right now I'm just working with a very basic straight line.
I've tried turning off snap to grid, tried adjusting the size of the default keyboard "nudge" increment, checked the keyboard, searched the keyboard shortcuts, and even tried returning the keyboard shortcuts to default.
Was this feature removed in CS2, or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks!

Agrred, that's not a feasible alternative. It is strange, though. I'd definitely have a look at the keyboard shortcurt prefs and just to be on teh safe side reset them. As a workaround, have you considered creating a pattern and then using that?

  • Photoshop CC for PC - ctrl-alt-arrow key Does Nothing

    I installed Photoshop CC on a new PC, and the ctrl-alt-arrow keystroke does nothing. It used to shrink the marquee around pixels and move the selection by 1 pixel. Now it does nothing. Using shift-ctrl-alt-arrow shrinks the marquee around pixels and moves the selection by 10 pixels, which is what it's supposed to do. Any help is appreciated.

    I'm re-reading your posts, and I'm guessing you started having this problem when you installed on the new PC.
    What I'm thinking is that unchecking the hotkeys is not enough, the hotkey utility may be still be "trapping" the ctrl-alt-arrow keystroke.
    I decided to check this for myself.  First I open the task manager in Windows 7. and saw a process called "igfxHK.exe"  I ended that process and started Photoshop and then tried ctrl-alt-arrow and to my surprise, that does work.  igfxHK = Intel Graphics HotKey.
    Now the next trick is to block it from loading in the first place. I guess you could try to move or rename it. I don't want to ask you to adjust entries in the Registry yet. I have to go in a few minutes.
    From this article: Ctrl+Alt+Arrow key no longer working — Photoshop for Windows — ClearPS.com
    "The good news is that (as far as I can tell) hkcmd doesn't appear to be necessary as my graphics drivers are still functioning fine after I've removed it (I went into regedit, searched for hkcmd and deleted all entries). From searching online I see that hkcmd is known to conflict with other apps, so it seems that it's likely the cause rather than PhotoShop. Why PhotoShop and hkcmd suddenly started to cause conflicts after months of proper functioning, I don't know."   hkcmd is like igfxHK.

  • Up and Down Arrow Keys Not Functioning in CS2 for Windows

    A little over 6 months ago I purchased Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Windows XP and installed it on my work PC and my home PC. Everything works fine and dandy on my work PC, however when I try to do some editting on my home PC there are some quirks that I can't figure out. The main thing is that my Up/Down Arrow Keys do absolutely nothing. Whether I am trying to edit text and scroll through my fonts or if I'm trying to nudge a part of a picture, the Arrow keys do nothing.
    Does anybody have any suggestions for me?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    >but that's beside the point.
    it's not. what you describe is typical behavior of a high quality cracked version that's been floating around. a great copy with shrink wrap, nice manuals, etc. but you've been burned. usually the discs are stamped "made in singapore".
    try to get your money back.

  • Arrow keys not working on CS2 64 bit system

    Recently purchased a new computer with 64 bit system 4meg ram. I installed CS2 and everything seems to be working except the arrow keys and the control +/- features. Arrow keys are working in other programs like word and publisher. Any suggerstions?

    I had the same issue on one machine but not another, so I compared the Photoshop install directories and found that (among other things) Tw10122.dat was different between the two. My only guess is that the version we have is localized to a different country, and this is causing the issue. Perhaps a common pirated version is also localized to a different country and that's why this issue is common among pirated versions, even though ours are not pirated.
    ...Or maybe they are and we just don't know it! Either way, replacing this file with my other version fixed it for me and maybe it will for you, too. Here's what to do:
    Close Photoshop (if opened)
    Navigate to your Photoshop install directory. This is c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\ by default on x64 systems or c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\ on x32.
    Find Tw10122.dat and rename it to  Tw10122.dat.bak.
    Download my attached  Tw10122.dat to your install directory.
    Launch Photoshop and test it.
    If the issue persists, or anything else seems wrong with Photoshop, restore your old  Tw10122.dat by deleting mine and renaming  Tw10122.dat.bak to its original filename. Please let us all know if this works for you.

  • Flash and Alt+arrow key

    1. Go to Youtube
    2. Play a video
    3. Open in fullscreen with mouse
    4. Close fullscreen with mouse
    5. open again fullscreen with mouse
    6. Close fullscreen again with mouse
    7. Press alt+left to go back (nothing happens. the focus seems to stay on the fullscreen flash maybe?)
    8. Click outside of the flash and on an ampty space on the web page. Press space.
    9. Now alt+left works for some reason.
    This problem because also affects my mouse. I have configured my mouse to make a web browser, file explorer or any other application navigate back or forward when i tilt my scrolling wheel left or right. This is a very big comfort for me because I don't have to have my one hand on backspace to navigate, or move my mouse onto the back button. And since Firefox takes away this huge comfort, it is very (very very ...) annoying problem.
    There is another weird thing but it is not a big problem.
    When a text box is focused in Firefox, every time I tilt my mouse wheel to navigate back or forward, a symbol appears inside the text box, before Firefox goes back or forward.

    I am using a Logitech V450 Laser Cordless mouse.
    Software:
    Logitech Setpoint Control Center
    - control center verison 4.60.122
    - driver version 4.60.122
    Logitech support: http://www.logitech.com/support_downloads
    Still the main problem is with Alt+arrow navigation.
    Another unrelated thing that i find a little annoying about Firefox is that when I scroll left or right with my touchpad, then instead of scrolling left or right, Firefox acts like I am repeatedly pressing the left or right key. It would be nice if it would just scroll left or right.
    I still like Firefox a lot,
    Thanks!

  • Pcmanfm alt+arrow shortcuts for "back" and "cd ../" not working

    A recent update must have stopped this from working for me. In previous versions, alt+up arrow caused me to go up a directory level, and alt+left arrow caused me to go back to whatever directory I had previously been in. Now alt only causes lines to appear underneath the menu items (as to show what alt+letter combo would open the menu).
    Is this occurring on anyone else's pcmanfm?
    pcmanfm-mod-nohal has the correct alt+arrow key functionality... so not sure where the breakage is coming from.

    2ManyDogs wrote:I'm sorry no one has answered your posts, but it's probably because no one has any good ideas for you. I have pcmanfm running on two Arch machines and I don't have this problem with either one of them.
    Thanks for the suggestions. Responses below
    2ManyDogs wrote:1. Did you do anything or install anything right before this problem started (you mentioned an update -- do you remember anything particular that was updated at that time)?
    Unfortunately not. My recollection is that pcmanfm was updated, but who knows what else might have come along with it?
    2ManyDogs wrote:2. What window manager are you using? Have you tried installing a different window manager to see if the problem persists? On my machine pcmanfm works fine in spectrwm but the keyboard shortcuts do not work at all in cwm.
    I'm using Openbox. I could try another DE/WM, but would prefer not to. I may just to check.
    2ManyDogs wrote:3. Have you tried a different file manager? If you are unable to fix this problem, could you live with thunar or spacefm instead of pcmanfm?
    I really don't like spacefm's left side navigation behavior. Clicking over there just takes you to the folder, but you can't up/down arrow to navigate the tree, at least that I've figured out.
    2ManyDogs wrote:4. Have you tried removing and reinstalling pcmanfm?
    Inherently, yes, as I've tried other fm's, I've uninstalled it. I could try removing it and any configs though. On that note, I just installed pcmanfm in a virtualbox installation of Arch that I've barely touched so far on my work Windows machine. It should have minimal configs set up. I get the same behavior.
    2ManyDogs wrote:5. Are you using systemd? Did you start using systemd around the same time as the problem started?
    I'm not familiar with this. It's installed, but from my perusing of the Arch Wiki, it looks like I'd have to activate it somehow. I have not added systemd to my init line of grub or syslinux.
    2ManyDogs wrote:6. Are you using any keyboard-trapping utilities, such as xbindkeys?
    Don't think so. I don't have xbindkeys installed. I checked my rc.conf for openbox to see if I had anything. The closest was Ctrl+Alt+Up to switch to the last workspace, but commenting that out and re-loading openbox did not fix the issue.
    2ManyDogs wrote:7. You mention that the problem went away for a while -- what did you do right before it went away, and right before it came back?
    Don't recall this either. I should have taken better notes! My memory vaguely recalls something having to do with numlock, but that's not doing anything anymore.
    2ManyDogs wrote:8. You say "pcmanfm-mod-nohal has the correct alt+arrow key functionality" -- this is probably significant, but I'm not exactly sure how.
    Yup -- mod-nohal works. Thanks for reminding me of this, as I'll probably just switch to it for now. I don't know if there was a reason I didn't just stick with that. Perhaps anal retentiveness at wanting to know the source of the issue.

  • Revolve 810 and behavior of the arrow keys with Ctrl + Alt

    The behavior the left and right arrow key, in combination with Ctrl and Alt, is to modify the screen orientation. (Which can be help because the Revolve is easily confused.) However, I want to disable this behavior because I use those key combinations for other uses.
    How can I disable this behavior?

    I understand you want to disable the rotate shortcut keys.
    It looks like it is using Intel, so I will provide the steps my Windows 7 system uses to disable these functions.  They should be similar to Windows 8 as well.
    Right-click the desktop and select screen resolution.
    Select advanced settings.
    Select Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile (wording may be different).
    Click the Graphics Properties button.
    Select Options and Support of the graphics control panel.
    Disable Hot Key functionality and click apply then ok.
    This should disable the hotkeys to rotate the screen.
    Since the Revolve 810 is using an Intel graphics card similar to mine, the steps should be the same or similar.
    Let me know what happens.

    It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
    If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

  • InputMap/ActionMap key bindings for arrow keys, alt key

    I'm having trouble defining InputMap/ActionMap key bindings for the arrow keys and the Alt key. My bound actions never run. I believe the problem is that the arrows are used in focus navigation, and the Alt key is used for opening the menu. How can I get these key bindings to work? Is there any other way that I can get events from these keys? I'd even be happy with simple AWT KeyListener events at this point. Thanks.

    I've been having this same problem. I built a demo application that demonstrates the problem. It all works fine until I add the JTree. The JTree seems to be consuming the arrow key strokes. Here is the code:
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import java.awt.event.KeyEvent;
    import javax.swing.JComponent;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.KeyStroke;
    public class ArrowKeyDemo extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
        private javax.swing.JTree tree;
        private javax.swing.JPanel panel;
        public ArrowKeyDemo() {
            initComponents();
            panel.registerKeyboardAction(this, "A",
                    KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_A, 0, false),
                    JComponent.WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW);
            panel.registerKeyboardAction(this, "left",
                    KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_LEFT, 0, false),
                    JComponent.WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW);
        private void initComponents() {
            panel = new javax.swing.JPanel();
            tree = new javax.swing.JTree();
            addWindowListener(new java.awt.event.WindowAdapter() {
                public void windowClosing(java.awt.event.WindowEvent evt) {
                    exitForm(evt);
            panel.add(tree);
            getContentPane().add(panel, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER);
            pack();
        private void exitForm(java.awt.event.WindowEvent evt) {
            System.exit(0);
        public static void main(String args[]) {
            new ArrowKeyDemo().show();
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
            System.out.println(actionEvent);
    }Having the JTree in there kills the ability to trap key strokes for any other purpose. This seems to be true of other Swing components as well. You can stop the JTree from consuming key strokes by adding the line:
    tree.setActionMap(null);
    But you will probably need to set the ActionMap to null for every Swing component that is trapping key strokes. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that includes scroll panes as well.
    I'd love to hear a more elegant solution.

  • Bridge CC crashes while using arrow keys to switch images

    Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Adobe Bridge 2014 on Mac is crashing every time I press an arrow key to move through images in bridge. I can click to manually select images with no problem, but using the up/down arrow keys to move to the next image up/down brings up the spinning beach ball and immediately locks the program up, requiring a force quit.
    Did the usual Mac permissions and fsck stuff to no avail. Ideas?
    Dan

    Thanks for moving my post to this correct forum. (I'm afraid I missed it when I originally posted.) A bit more information based on attempts to fix and on further attempts to use the program.
    After launching Bridge — before I select any specific image — it initially seems to work correctly. For example, I can use menu items and select and open folders. However...
    Once I drill down through folders to show raw files in the browser the problems begin. I can manually select an image by clicking on it, but the program the locks up if I do things such as attempt to navigate to another image using the up/down keyboard arrows or select anything from a menu that would perform an action on the image. (The problem happens with any image selected — not one particular image, and with images that worked fine until 48 hours ago.)
    ACR still works. I can double click an image and open the raw converter, and I can doubly click a smart object image in Photoshop do go back to the raw editor and it allows me to edit.
    I did the step of holding down command-option-shift at Bridge startup and selecting all three options to delete the cache and so forth. Still no joy.
    I did the usual Mac disk/file system repair stuff — repairing permissions and repairing disk — to no avail.
    I downloaded and reinstalled Bridge but the problem persists.
    Since I have a full backup of the drive on which Bridge is installed and since this backup drive is bootable, I double clicked the copy of Bridge on the backup drive... and it opened (slowly!) but worked correctly. (Not that this means much, but my second instance on my laptop continues to run fine.)
    I'm stuck, in a serious way, at this point. Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • In Dreamweaver CC code view, how do I reenable shift-control+arrow keys to select words?

    In previous versions of Dreamweaver (for Windows but presumably for other operating systems as well) and in pretty much any other text editor (except maybe for vi/m but including the one I'm using to write this message in now). I can select characters using shift plus the arrow keys and select words by pressing shift-control plus the arrow keys. It seems you now have to use shift-alt to select words. I don't want to have to undo about 25 years of habit just for Dreamweaver.
    Please say this is an easy setting I can uncheck somewhere! Thanks!

    That is an issue that has come up a lot lately...
    Make sure to add your voice to the others here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform and hopefully in the next release they'll put it back to normal.

  • Why can't I use the arrow keys to scroll up and down websites anymore?

    When I'm on any website and I click anywhere in the website there is a blinking bar - sorry, don't know the technical term - like you would find in any new document waiting for the next character to appear to the left of it. It's almost as if FF - not the super-team - want me to add test to any page I find but it is just a weird mistake.
    I assume it's because of this glitch (assuming) that when I go to press the up or down arrow keys it no longer cascades the screen smoothly like a parade of content; instead it just hops from top to middle to bottom and that's when it does anything. What gives?

    -> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> General section -> place Checkmark on '''Use Smooth Scrolling''' -> Remove Checkmark from '''Use AutoScrolling''' -> click OK
    Check and tell if its working.

  • Using left and right arrow keys as accesskeys

    I am trying to remediate an online course and need to apply left arrow key to next button (advance to next page) and right arrow key to back button (return to previous page). Does anyone have javascript code that would allow this?

    This is already built into major browsers.  This assumes the browser history folder contains more than one page. If the browser's history folder is empty, nothing will happen.
    For Windows users:
    Alt+Left arrow = back one page.
    Alt+Right arrow = forward one page.

    Hi,

    Remove any USB device except mouse/keyboard
    Perform a PRAM-reset (hold ALT-CMD-P-R until you've heard the starting chime 3 times)

  • Is it possible to use the keyboard arrow keys to adjust the exact position of a text box in PE11?

    Hello all,
    Could someone please give me a tip on a precise way to move a text box a pixel to the left (or right) - any direction really, using the arrow keys on the keyboard instead of the mouse.
    This may sound like a daft question but the only way I can move a text object is by using the mouse and dragging text boxes precisely in any direction is a real pain, especially if I have many of them.
    The mouse just can't be the only way.
    I wish the arrow keys could work just like in Microsoft Word. When the text box is selected and the arrow cursor is also activated, one can adjust the exact position of the text box.
    It doesn't seem to work in Pr.Elements 11 though. I tried various combinations (Alt + left/right), (Ctrl + left/right) etc. and still nothing.
    Is this possible at all?
    Thanks in advance to those that will bother to respond.
    Pavlin

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks. We do have Adobe CC and therefore I have access to PrPro but I spent some time getting to know Element's interface already and was hoping I would not have to use PrPro, which is slightly more complicated.
    It is only small to medium edit jobs that I need editing software for anyway.
    That is a shame really!
    As far as I am aware, there is a newer version (PE12) that is now availble. Does anyone know if they have improved the functionality in terms of precise title positioning in that latest version?
    Thanks.
