ALT + Click on Adjustment Layer Icon isn't working

Hi,
it drives me crazy, i'd like to ALT + click on the Adjustment Layer down in the Layers panel to open the dialog window when creating a new adjustment layer. But it's not working. Sometimes the adjustment layer options just flushes for a very short period of time but most time nothing happens.
Any idea if something is wrong with my keyboard shortcuts?
thanks in advanced
Alex

I have come across this on two different machines so far both running CC 2014.
The only way I have found to make it work is to ALT right-click, which works every time for me.
Annoying isn't it.

  • BUG- Alt clicking adjustment layer icons Not giving the opportunity to name the layer in CS6 Beta?

    Using Windows 7 Ult, 64-bit:
I notice when I alt-click an adjustment layer icon, the layer automatically drops in with a default name--rather than giving me an opportunity to type a name for the A/L via the "new layer" dialog box.  For example, in CS5, when you alt-click on the hue/saturation ajustment layer icon, you are given a dialog box in which you can name the layer, select clipping mask, blend mode, color select, etc--then the layer populates in the composition. In CS6 beta, when I hold the "alt" key and click the adjustment layer icon for hue/sat, I'm not getting the new layer dialog box at all.  Is this a bug or a modifier key change in CS6?

It should still work from the layers panel. You have to hold the alt key before going to the adjustments menu at the bottom of the layers panel.
It doesn't seem to work from the adjustments panel unless you use the flyout menu and then you don't have to add the alt key to get the dialog.

  • Photoshop CS5 Adjustment Layer Icons

In PS CS5, the adjust-layer icons are generic and non-descriptive in the layer panel. Is this a bug?
    Thanks

I have had this problem also in Photoshop CS3 on a mac, but only on some documents, and the generic icon saves with those files. Going back and applying the icon size fix cures the problem on those selected older files. But why was the "small" layer icon size used on those to begin with?
    Thanks,

  • Layers Panel, Adjustment Layer Icon for Curves not working

Why in the layers panel, does the new adjustment layer icon for CURVES initiate the LEVELS dialog?  This seems to be a bug.

THanks for the prompt reply.  Your suggestion to "reset workspaces" worked.
    FYI, I'm working with Photoshop CS6 (v13.0.1 64-bit) on Windows 7.  The
problem happened with various documents, including yes an RGB/8 bit
example.  I feel stupid for not trying simple fixes, but I just upgraded to
CS6 and have experienced a couple of other issues (why did I need to
install ACR8.5 in order for RAW files from Canon 5D MarkIII to be
recognized when CS6 shipped with ACR7.1, for example?) so I had lost faith
and patience.   But all is well again and I have regained my composure.

  • ALT clicking in adjustment layers

In CS5 alt clicking in an adjustment layer (eg curves) permitted naming the layer and making a clipping path This does not happen in CS6.How do you do that in CS6?
Please send response to [email protected]

Double-click a layer's name to make it editable.
When you say "clipping path" you could literally mean Clipping Path as found in the dropdown menu of Paths panel. However, I suspect you mean Clipping Mask when a layer is clipped to the layer below. If so, press Alt as you move the mouse pointer between two layers so a little box and downward arrow appears then click to make the clip.

  • Can't click drop-down lists in curves adjustment layer

Odd behavior in released x64 version of CS6 for Windows: on my laptop (ASUS G73S with 1.5 gb nVidia GeForce video), when I crop an image, the drop-down menus in a curves adjustment layer become unclickable. But I can still access the RGB channels using the Alt + 3, 4 and 5 shortcuts. This behavior doesn't occur on my workstation, and if I don't crop the image, the drop-down menus work fine. I have the crop tool set to delete pixels. Also, if I apply curves directly (not with an adjustment layer), the dialog box works OK. And the other adjustment layers seem to be working, too. It's only the curves layer that's doing this.
Any ideas what this could be? I'm wondering if I should report it as a bug.

I've noticed that a few times on windows 8 32 bit, photoshop cs6 32 bit with 4gb of ram, a nVidia 8400 gs graphics card and open gl seems to work fine.
I guess that's probably some kind of glitch.
One way to get back the dropdown is to click on the Curves Display Options in the flyout menu and then just click OK in the dialog.
Added: It doesn't seem to happen if the crop tool is set to Classic Mode.

  • CS4 Adjustment Layer Panel - Where Is OK Icon

    1. Clicked on Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves (or, in the alternative, the Crate New Fill Or Adjustment Layer icon at bottom of Layers panel, then selected Curves (it need not have been Curves - any adjustment poses the same issue).
    2. Did my adjustment.
    3. Photoshop CS4 for Dummies, p. 363 says, "In the adjustment's dialog box, make any edits and then click OK."
    4. The book, "Using Adobe Photoshop CS4" by Adobe, also refers to the "OK."
I have examined my computer display for 40 minutes and cannot find an "OK" icon/button. Can you help me locate it? I'm aware I don't have to find it as I can just go on with my work, since the layer has been created and I know how to close the Adjustments panel, but I want to find the darn OK icon/button.
Note: I'm also aware of how to open the Window > Adjustments panel.
    Thanks.

  • Alt + Create new Fill or Adjustment Layer CC2014

Alt + Create new Fill or Adjustment Layer Photoshop CC2014 not working
In Photoshop CS6 I can click on the Alt key and select Create new Fill or Adjustment Layer to create a new adjustment layer with options, but when I try the same in Photoshop CC2014 clicking the Alt doesn't work that way, is there something that I'm doing wrong or maybe there's another shortcut key that I'm unaware of. Is there another way to do the same thing as CS6

It also work in Photoshop CC like in CS6 but not in CC 2014 it seem to be a bug.

  • Adjustment Layer - Single Icon for all.

    Hi
Recently all the icons in my adjustment layers show the same, this being the 'Add Adjustment Layer Button' . I still get the curves, photo filter etc adjustments - it is just the icon that remanins the same. Why is is doing this.
    Many thanks.

    Ah! ok.
It is normal. It was not clear from your message that you were talking about the icons in the layers panel.
The icon changes according to the shape of the document, if you have a picture with a ratio bigger than 2x3, it'll be ok.
You can change the size of the tumbnails by going to the menu of the layers panel, and selecting "Panel Options..." and the adjustment layer icon will be different.
In the future, please give the full version of your operating system and of Photoshop, CC 14.2 instead of CC, or CS6 13.1.3 instead of CS6, you can find that info in help>system info...

  • Why are my eyedropper targets changing when I select my adjustment layer?

Consider this simple document with 2 layers and an adjustment layer:
Note the eyedropper targets. They read as expected:
Now, observe what happens when I click my adjustment layer (this is a new Levels adjustment that has NOT YET BEEN TOUCHED - so there should be NO CHANGE)
It doesn't matter whether the adjustment layer or its layer mask are selected, the results are the same.
    Here are my eyedropper settings:
Proof Colors is off. I can't think of any other setting to play with.
This looks like a pretty huge bug to me, and it's not something I remember from earlier versions. Does anyone know what's going on?

Thanks for the added clarifications Noel. Can you perhaps explain to me how the behaviour of the color sampler in the info palette is actually desirable?
Let's look at my example again. When I am trying to make an adjustment and I'm looking at my color sampler targets, I _must_ have my adjustment layer selected. Target #1 is pointed over a white pixel. Regardless of which layer I have selected, that pixel is white. I can't imagine a scenario in which the readout should be anything other than 255,255,255. That's not a feature, that's a design mistake.
If I want to see, in the readout, the value of the background image's pixel, then I should hide the layer that contains that white shape. Then, that pixel is no longer white, and the color sampler readout should reflect that. Makes sense.
If you truly and honestly believe that users are interested in the color that is a result of compositing all the layers below (and including) the currently selected adjustment layer when they are plaing with the adjustment layer controls, then the UI must temporarily hide any layers above that color sampler as soon as I select the adjustment layer. This is the only correct UX design in that scenario - so that the color sampler once again reflects exactly what is "true" - namely the pixel color on the screen that it is sampling.
And if you re-read that last paragraph you will intuitively know that that would be crazy. I mean, there's no way that a user would want to have the UI hide any layers just because he's clicked on the Adjustment Layer - he probably wants to see the adjustment in the context of the entire composition. If he wanted to hide those other layers, he'd do it himself.
I urge you to reconsider this from the perspective of a real-world user and consider logging this as a bug. I just can't see any way that it isn't a mistake.

  • Adjustment layer not adjustable in CS5

Photoshop CS5/12.0.1, Mac OS 10.5.8 Mac Pro 6GB 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
I try to create an adjustment layer, on my background layer, which appears to be created, but no dialog appears to let me adjust the adjustments.  Double clicking on the adjustment layer icon does nothing, nor does selection layer->layer contents options...
The image is 8-bit RGB, which came from Lightroom 3 as a DNG.  I tried saving it as a PSD and reopening it, and I still can't change the adjustments in the adjustment layers.  Here's what the layers pallette looks like:
What stupid thing am I doing (or not doing) that's causing this?
    Thanks!

Welcome to CS5. You're looking for the adjustments panel, which allows non-modal adjustments (Window menu > Adjustments).

  • Adjustement layer on one layer

    Hi,
Automatically, Adjustment Layer applies on all layers below.
How can I apply an Adjustment Layer to only one of the layer below?
EX. from bottom to top, I have Layer #1, #2 and #3. This order is important. I created an Adjustment layer on top of all. I want it to be apply on layer #3 only. I don't want Layer #1 and #2 to be affect by Adjustment layer.
    How can I do it?
    thanks

Hold the alt key and click between the adjustment layer and the layer beneath it. You'll see the cursor change and once you click, the adjustment layer will be clipped to the layer below.
Clipping mask is the keyword. More about them here:

  • Photoshop CS6 adjustment layer interface (vs. CS3)

    Hi
In CS3, my workhorse editor until recently, when I double clicked an adjustment layer it opened up the initial settings window. There I was able to tab browse through the variables, make whatever adjustments I wanted, hit enter, and live happily ever after. I haven't been able to figure out how do do this in CS6, which has the 'properties' panel for making changes to adjustment layer settings.
The question: Can CS6 be set to behave like CS3 in this respect?

How to combine photos into a panorama

i notice the keyboard shortcuts when selecting the layer/s
by alt+clicking the eyball/layer once to show or hide the
layer/s but when i use this same method it only works if
i alt+click(hide) one layer but to revel all the layers i have to
click each individual (eyeball)/layer; not like in the tutorial
any ideas why this doesn't work for me?

Get a programmable multi-button mouse, and assign one of the buttons to the combo you want. Be sure to check to make sure the mouse you are considering allows programming key combos for all the buttons. Personally, I LOVE my Wacom Intuos tablet and mouse. The mouse has 4 buttons, plus a scroll wheel that is also a button. I have key combos assigned to all the buttons, save the left one which is "normal" click, with the middle/scroll button being Option-click. I use it all the time for precisely the purpose you mention.
