Alt + Delete doesn't work in playlists?

With the 10.1.1 update, alt + delete doesn't seem to work in playlists anymore. How do I delete songs completely from my computer from within a playlist?

finx518, The way to do that is the Consolidate command. Look in the Help for more detail, but basically it goes through your library, and for any file that is not already in your designated iTunes Media folder, it puts a copy into that folder.
As a result, iTunes ends up with all the files in one place. When Consolidate is done, and you have verified that everything is OK, you can delete the song files that are outside that folder.

You need to be on the home screen. Then hold the alt key and press L G L G.
Deleting the logs probably won't do anything to "speed up" your device.

Alt Key Doesn't Work With Tools

Suddenly the Alt key doesn't work with Clone and other Tools. When it's pressed, it shows a double arrow (black/white)cursor and a selection is not defined.

Some programs and utilities takes control of the Alt key when installed.
GuruNet (Atomica) and FlySwat are two of these applications. Uninstall them and re-claim the Alt-key, and all should be fine.
...but these programs are not on my PC. Plus, the Alt key works fine in other programs. I'm using CS.
I'm desperate to fix this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In 18+ years of computer use I never had this problem (I've had lots of dirty keyboards, but never this problem). Must have been a big crumb. The only mystery though is why the key worked ok in another program. Anyway, a thousand thanks.

I have been talking to Apple support about this very problem. So far they have asked me to disable both Firewall and Anti Virus software (Windows Firewall and ESAT NOD32 anti virus) - this didn't work. Rebuild my library - this didn't work. Un-install all Apple applications and re-install - this didn't work. I have created a second user account on my PC and from that account (both accounts set as Administrator) I can activate Genius. This suggests to me that the problem is possibly linked to my original User Account, which is the one I always use. I am waiting for the next update from Apple and will post an update if/when the problem is resolved.
What I also notice is about 2 seconds in to Step 2 of the Genius activation, the progress diagonal lines bar stops, and then starts again. As soon as I see this short freeze I know that the activation will fail.

DELETE doesn't work

I'm writing an application that uses dBase III tables, because I have to use data stored with applications that produced this kind of files. I can use JdbcOdbcDriver and it works. I can perform the basic SQL instructions SELECT, INSERT and UPDATE. But DELETE doesn't work. When a DELETE operation is performed, the rows I tried to delete remain in the table, although the stmt.executeUpdate() method returns the actual number of rows fulfilling the WHERE condition.
I remember that in dBase III files, deleting rows is performed in two steps: first, rows are marked for deletion, and afterwards, a "pack" operation must be performed in order to remove the rows from the file. Does anybody know if this has any relation with my problem? Anybody can give me a hint?

I have not used dBase III files in a long time and have never used them with JDBC.
When you delete a row - the row is marked for deletion. An internal delete flag is set, in the record deleted. There is a command "SET DELETED ON", if it is set, as far as dBase is concerned the record is deleted even though the record still exists in the database. If the command "SET DELETED OFF" is used the deleted records can be seen and recovered at any point until a pack is done. If I remember correctly
you can test if a record has the delete flag on with the function "DELETED()", if true the record is is marked for deletion.
Normally you have "SET DELETED ON" and do everything as you would with any other database.
The pack function only needs to be run when it becomes necesary to recover the space the deleted records are taking up. This is nornally done only when the number of deleted records becomes significant. Also it can only be performed with exclusive use of the file. Normally the pack is done on weekends or in the middle of the night.
If all else is working in your application, suspect the records are being marked as deleted but you have not SET DELETED ON and you are still seeing the records. Note it is possible to see the flag at the start of the record.

Rest service DELETE doesn't work with OSB

I am using OSB 11g, I am using OSB proxy to monitor external rest services call. I've created a business service that point to the external rest service and I created a proxy that is routed to my business service. I modified the flow by adding a piplinepairNode -->requestPipline-->stage -->created two assign and created two variable one for the id and another one for the productID. Then I modified the business service flow as follow:
created two insert, one to define the method, which is DELETE and another one to set the relative-URI to the productID variable and I set the response to replace the . in the body with $body, following this post: http://blogs.oracle.com/jeffdavies/entry/restful_services_with_oracle_s_1
When I test it using osb console Execute, I can see my productID variable is set to $inbound and it is passed all the way to the business service, where it should call the external rest service with the relative-URI, which is set to my productID. it doesn't work, I get 404 error, which is undefined, I believe the reason is because business service is trying to call the external rest service with
http://localhost:{port}/deleteProduct and the rest service expect this URL
http://localhost:{port}/deleteProduct/2 or {productID}
can you please help and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Sometimes arch freezes and even CTRL+ALT+F* doesn't work!

Hi there!
I'm giving archlinux a try for about one month now.
In this time I had several system "freezes", where I had to power off the computer, because CTRL+ALT+F* (for switching to console) or CTRL+ALT+DEL (for reboot) didn't work.
E.g. yesterday I got a freeze, while playing around with virtualbox, when I changed an usb device setting. Or a week ago I had a system freeze, when I changed OSS to ALSA in audacious while playing a mp3..
It is ok for me when a program crashes BUT what I expect from linux is that it doesn't freeze just because of some crashed program?
I am shure this isnt normal right?
Somehow I miss a "real emergency" shortcut which always responds and e.g. kills X or every 100% CPU process..
Is there something like this?
My system is arch_64, ATI fglrx, no WM (just compiz)

Count me 3, I've been having these freezes for quite some time now. I use only openbox so I don't think it's WM/DE specifc. I think the problem lies to the combination of kernel .34, xorg 1.8 and catalyst. Oh and reisub doesn't work either and yes I have enabled. It's very frustrating...
Edit: Seems it's kernel specific. I downgraded to .33 and so far no freeze. Give it a try.

Damaged Aperture Library - ALT CMD doesn't work, because update is starting

I have a Aperture Library with apr. 30'000 Pictures. I used this library the last time before switching to a new macbook pro and before aperture update(s). If I start aperture and select this library by choosing "other library", the update library screen opens, but the scan after that doesn't do anything. I found some discussions, they say "starting with ALT CMD". But this doesn't work because everytime the update screen is showing up and so, I can't fix the damaged library.
If I used this library as startup library, I got the message, damaged library (in german defekt) and aperture closes.

It worked the half way.
So far, so good.
I can rebuild the database and see all the Projects and Folders with their numbers of pictures, but there are no pictures.
If you see the number of pictures but no thumbnails in the film strip when in Split View, you probably have a filter set. Make sure that all search fields in the Browser and the Library panel are cleared and set to "All items". If that does not help, post back.
I save my photos not inside the Aperture Database. I have the pictures as jpg and cr2 files on my external Airport disk. Maybe, that's why it didn't work?
So your Aperture Library is a referenced library and not a managed one? If you see broken arrows on the thumbnails of your images once you reveal them again by clearing the filters, you have to to tell Aperture the location of your master files and reattach the masters. Select the images in a project, and from the Aperture main menu select "File" -> "Locate Referenced Files"

IPhoto running really slow - alt cmd doesn't work, restart neither, library has about 2000 photos

I already tried all options when starting iphoto with alt and cmd pressed - doesn't work
I restarted my mac - doesn't work
I clicked "repair" and "verify" disk in "disk utilities" - doesn't work
My iphoto library has about 2000 pictures, I have a macbook air 11' and the latest version of iphoto. The problem first came up when i imported pictures directly to iphoto from my digicam - iphoto kept on shutting down unexpectedly. Alt+cmd worked then, I rebuilt the library. Since then iphoto is running slow. I cannot even scroll down or up without waiting and getting a beachball.
Please help me - I have no idea what to do!

How much free space do you have on your boot drive?
Give this a go:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Sampling colors with brush tool by holding down ALT key doesn't work

I'm trying to sample a color with the brush tool on an empty layer while painting by holding ALT key on my mac but it doesn't work for me on Photoshop CC. Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Select the Eyedropper Tool, check on the options. Is "All Layers" selected?

Ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't work anymore after system update

After a recent system update (xorg got updated among other packages), ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't restart gdm anymore.
Before you say it, I have the following in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

ALT+TAB doesn't work properly in Windows 8.1

Holding ALT+TAB will activate the flip 2D to switch from a window to another. The problem is that this function remains active for a very short time and I'm not able to select the window I want in the foreground. I also noticed that
when I put the cursor on an icon on the taskbar, the live preview thumbnail disappears quickly.
With a safe mode restart the problem is no longer there, all is fine! With a clean install of Windows 8.1(no driver and applications installed) the problem is here again; obviously disappears with a safe mode restart also in this situation. What's the problem?

UPDATE: I tried(casually) to deactivate the charging of the battery from the manufacturer software and all works fine! When I active the charging the problem returns. Any suggestions? I can't remove manually the battery from the laptop bacause

Being disabled I use sticky keys and since Firefox 28 (even after Reset) the Alt key doesn't work as a sticky key and Ctrl fires twice eg. Ctrl-v copies twice.

This still happens after upgrading to FF 29.
I have a 64bit Windows 7 system.
Initially, it seemed to be OK but after only a few minutes it was back to this behaviour.
Other symptoms:
1. When I also have Accessibility Mouse Keys enabled, while typing it automatically switches the default click button to the Right button
2. Ctrl-t inserts 2 tab pages and Ctrl-w closes two!
3. everything works fine if used as normal ie. hold the Ctrl or Alt down while pressing the action letter..

From your System Details, it looks like user.js is currently active in Firefox. The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:

or

Entity beans - cascade delete doesn't work

Could anyone show me a working example where cascade delete implemented with EJB3 entity beans?
If the database not created with cascade delete I can't do it..
I use JDeveloper 10.1.3.0 and it's embedded OC4J and Oracle 8i database.
My session bean doesn't catch any exception during remove an entity that has child entity. The exception will be thrown only at the end of the transaction, when the container calls the concrete SQL. And my client receives SQL exception: child record found.
Why can I define: cascade={CascadeType.REMOVE} if the container doesn't check it and doesn't throw exception when I want to delete an entity that has childs?

Kati,
The EJB3 support in 10.13.0 JDeveloper is a preview implementation released prior to the completion of the EJB3 specification. I do not believe the cascade functionality was complete for that preview. I would recommend either switching to the 10.1.3.1 preview or downloading and using TopLink Essentials, which is the compliant implementation of EJB3 Java Persistence API (JPA).

Alt-tab doesn't work properly

Alt-tab is supposed to display the icons for the applications that are running. If I keep the alt key depressed, the icons are supposed to stay visible. But on my system, they are only visible for a couple of seconds, and then the window for the icon I
have highlighted opens. How do I ensure that the icons stay visible when the alt key is held down?

When I use Alt/Tab (press alt/tab and release tab but hold alt) I get different results at different times. For example, this morning I used Alt/Tab and it displayed the list of thumbnails on top of their respective windows. That worked fine several times.
But a few minuets later it changed and displays the list of thumbnails behind the windows (i.e., you can't see the list).
I know this can be turned off by disabling Aero Peek but that will disable other useful features too. I am using Windows 7 on a DELL E6440 but this problem exists on all computers I have ever used, including Levento.
Win/Pause just brings up Control Panel/System. Win-F11 does nothing (in Firefox).
Note that I did not load or run any programs between the time it was working and the time it quit working. I was only switching between applications.
This is clearly a Windows 7 bug. I don't see the problem on Windows 8 (but I don't use that much).
